  1. Neither team is doing a whole lot to take this game. Whoever plays slightly less horrible wins!
  2. Were the first two pitches strikes or close? I was writing a couple things up, so I wasn't exactly paying attention till the 2-0 cookie. Obviously Roenicke seemed to thinks so.
  3. If Smith continues his struggles, I would not mind giving the ball to Jeffress in the 8th. Maybe they want to give him a little more MLB experience, but I think he's ready to take that role. Smith has basically been a LOOGY after his fantastic start (not sure if the stats back that up, but it certainly seems that way.)
  4. Got a break there. I thought on the (one) replay I saw his foot was on the bag when Overbay got him on the shirt, but it was tough to see. Either way, where the heck was Smith? Edit: Oop, better replay showed he was definitely out. Nice quick challenge there. Would like more of those.
  5. I think I have to agree here. I know it's a business and he has to perform, but every time I look at him I think of what he lost. I dont agree. Has nothing to do with whether hettera should be playing more. Plus. Segura has been this bat at the plate long before that tragedy. Agreed. I'd say Segura's received ample criticism on his play, even later in the 2013 season. Obviously, that was his rookie season, so he did get a pass (as he should have) for tailing off a bit. It happens to a lot of rookies. I think this year has been different. Besides the time around the awful death of his child - where you really can't expect any human to be focused on their job - I've seen plenty of fans that are not happy with his bat. And more and more fans have been calling for Herrera to replace him, or for Segura to go down to AAA to try and figure things out. Right now he's almost always hitting weak grounders to short, and the past month or so it seems (just going by the eye test) that his D hasn't been up to snuff either. Now that he's struggling at both ends, I can't really think of any reasons for him to play over Herrera. And it's not like Herrera is a sieve on D either.
  6. I thought Jeffress took a good enough route. Overbay came in, then stopped like he was going to cover first, then came in again. I'd put it more on him, but if either of them get the ball, it's an easy out. Jeffress just has to run to the bag, and Overbay has an easy tag. But it really was one of those play's that was in "no-man's land", as you mentioned. They both arrived at the ball at exactly the wrong time.
  7. I would have been more OK with it if that leadoff hitter was a guy like Aoki - someone who's not likely to provide much power. But when you have one of your best home run threats up, I'm not a fan. Plus, Ross has a pretty good move to first.
  8. Why why why are you stealing there? And Segura was out easily as well.
  9. Hah, take that! You clearly underestimated our baserunning! Nicely played. For those of us without video, what happened? Ross threw one in the dirt, catcher blocked it pretty easily and it didn't get too far away (around home plate). Davis decided to take off for second for reasons unknown and was thrown out easily.
  10. Hah, take that! You clearly underestimated our baserunning!
  11. Oh, so this is gonna be one of those games where they're just gonna make stupid mistakes and swing at everything. They could have told me earlier.
  12. Bad AB by Braun, and even worse by Ramirez. Yeesh. Scooter picks 'em up!
  13. This! Right now, Segura is not a MLB caliber player. Melvin has 5 days to find a SS. I know there won't be much out there, but at this point, anything is better. They definitely need to throw Herrera in there. He's been solid enough after the first time he was called up. He's not a long-term option, but right now he's a better option than Segura.
  14. They are bad, but it's usually the hitting that's their downfall. They have a good pitcher on the mound today, but the Crew did get to him back in Milwaukee.
  15. I may have missed it, or forgotten - what did he say? Essentially that he didn't know what else he had to do to get meaningful innings. He referenced his ERA on jsonline. It seemed like a strange time to complain in the press. Wow. Yeah, that'll get you in the doghouse.
  16. Sounds a bit superstitious and negative ... I think this performance can give players good vibes and momentum ... let's keep bashing! I didn't get any negativity or bashing out of that whatsoever - just the hope that the offense keeps it going tomorrow.
  17. Well, I think we can call this one. Save some for tomorrow, boys. Gonna need it 'cause Tyson Ross has been great all year. Hopefully Jimmy Nelson can have a great outing. If the Brewers are able to pull it out, I think they'll sweep. Edit: The Crew did get to him in Milwaukee to the tune of nine hits and five earned runs in six innings. A repeat performance would be very nice.
  18. Nobody has an understanding of how this rule works. If they did, they wouldn't have called a runner safe at home on a force out because the catcher's foot was on, hence "blocking" home plate. They just need to get rid of this stupid rule because it's only in place because of a freak injury to one of MLB's golden boys. I honestly don't think I've seen a play that hasn't been challenged at that plate. You're right, no one has an understanding of the rule, so the managers just challenge it because they think maybe they'll pick up a gift run. Or the umps challenge it themselves because they know the manager is going to come out anyway. Hate hate hate the rule. Edit: And though the earlier play was challenged, it makes zero sense how it took that long. Zero. They didn't have to move the baserunners or anything. They just confirmed an easy call that should have only taken one replay. It couldn't get more obvious, yet the longer it took the more scared I became.
  19. And the Cardinals take the lead right on cue. A couple errors, wild pitch, and 5-2 lead with no one out in the 6th.
  20. This game turned in a hurry. Bad D, and Yo nibbling/getting behind in counts = Pirates runs.
