Yes! I know Yo doesn't necessarily have a great track record against Holliday, but with Pujols locked in like he is, you have to take your chances. Good IBB, good result. Even if it hadn't worked out, I think it's the right call.

It's known as the "vicinity play." Umps will give shortstops and second basemen some leeway to allow them to avoid a charging baserunner. If he's WAY off the base and it's pretty obvious he didn't even put any effort into even making it look close, I've seen umps call the guy safe.Yeah, I definitely know the play. I just thought he was off enough that he definitely could have been called safe. I'm glad he wasn't though...

Complete agreement. And the first time Pujols was up he hit one near his shins anyway. Just don't bother pitching to him with bases open.

Yo looked back to form, then started pitching scared. Got to attack. Continually falling behind just leads to pain.

No meatballs to Pujols here. Just walk him down in the count. I'm OK with pitching to him with no one on, but not in this count.... Edit: Single. I guess... that works. I don't understand giving him anything to hit in that situation, but it worked out as well as a walk... I guess.

This is what I was worried about with Yo, though it doesn't help that RR put him in a bind with a terrible CF. Still, he just hasn't been very sharp against the Cards over his career. Can't seem to locate his fastball right now. Breaking pitch looks sharp, but even those have been hit, or they're not swinging at them. ...and falling behind everyone is not helping.

And this is the first time the Brewers have held Furcal hitless since he became a Cardinal (0-5). We should have saved that till Wednesday!

That they did. There's certainly been some success in St. Louis (or at least it feels that way to me...), but the playoffs are a different animal. I'm hoping they can do some damage out there.

He had Hawkins though, which I think a lot of people, including myself, were angry about. I know Saito was gone during some of that period, and obviously K-Rod wasn't there yet, but Hawkins was pitching really well and not getting a lot of opportunities in late innings.

The Greinke-Garcia one I feel best about. Wolf/Loshe certainly scares me. And so does Gallardo/Carpenter mainly due to how dominating he was against Philly, and Gallardo's struggles against the Cards. We'll see. I'm really hoping they can somehow take two, but I'm thinking one is most likely.

Yeah because putting runners on in front of Holliday and Berkman could never backfire Pitch count was 2-0 when I typed that. Holliday grounds into quite a bit of DPs. And Pujols has killed us tonight. I'm willing to take a chance on Holliday.
