There was one play when the Pelicans stole second and nobody covered 2nd base for the Mudcats. Weston Wilson and Wendell Rijo were both 2-4. Monte Harrison was 1-3 and his triple was the only extra base hit for the Mudcats. Yamamoto (6 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K) took the loss. An error by Luis Aviles led up to the Tom home run, which created the 3 unearned runs given up by Yamamoto. Erceg hasn't been able to play in the field lately for some reason and Diaz was a late scratch, no reason. There is nobody else on the infield. Maybe they should have kept Oquendo at Carolina?

Mudcats turn triple play, but Hillcats take twin bill Harrison, Aviles and Hummel turn 9-2-6-2 triple play in game one loss By Carolina Mudcats | August 10, 2017 12:11 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/4/4/227352544/cuts/16x9_AvilesThrowing_9odg5fny_ynphn3oc.jpg Luis Aviles playing for the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats) The Mudcats dropped both halves of the double header. Triston McKenzie had given up 7 and 6 runs in his last two starts but the Mudcats couldn't do much with him today. He gave up 5 hits in 5 innings and the two following pitchers didn't give up any in the final two innings. Cody Ponce (5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) was not good at all as he limps into the final few games of the season. The 9 hits he gave up included two home runs in the 4th inning. Luke Barker finished out game one. Five different Mudcats had singles in this game but Luis Aviles was wiped out on a caught stealing after his. Carolina Game 1 Box Score Carolina Game 1 Log Lynchburg Top of the 4th Gavin Collins grounds out, catcher Cooper Hummel to first baseman Weston Wilson. Connor Marabell lines out to center fielder Corey Ray. Sicnarf Loopstok homers (15) on a fly ball to left center field. Ka'ai Tom doubles (24) on a line drive to left fielder Trent Clark. Lynchburg scored all their runs in the 4th inning. The Mudcats came back with 2 in the fifth but it was not enough. Eric Hanhold worked two scoreless innings in relief. Monte Harrison had a double and Luis Aviles and Max McDowell added singles for the only 3 hits in the nightcap for the Mudcats. Charlie Meyer back to the Helena paper roster and Max McDowell has been activated for Carolina. -
Carolina's game has been postponed. They will play a double header tomorrow starting at 5 PM ET.
-
They are currently applying diamond dust to the field in Zebulon. I suppose that means a delayed start. Not raining at least.
-
Personally, I don't think either Stokes or Clark are destined for center field. In my opinion both are light years behind both Ray and Harrison in center field. Yes they could stand out in center field and make the routine plays but you are giving up some catches that would have been made by a better centerfielder.
-
The Biloxi doubleheader has been cancelled. Presumably due to wet grounds.

Biloxi has been postponed due to rain.

Mudcats avoid shutout in 9-1 series finale loss The Astros took the series 3-1 and dropped the Mudcats to 9.5 games back of first By Carolina Mudcats | August 6, 2017 6:59 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/7/4/242293074/cuts/16x9_Harber_4t1woajm_1enb868f.jpg Carolina falls to 56-56 on the year. There are only 26 games left. Now 9 1/2 games back of the Astros. Conor Harber (5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 6 BB, 6 K) got the start and the loss. Brad Kuntz (1 2/3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 0 K) has been mostly pretty good this year but this was not a good performance. Frank Lopez mopped up. Monte Harrison was 2-3 with a double but was caught stealing once. He likes to play shallow in the outfield but has had 3 balls go over his head the last couple of games. The other two hits were singles by Weston Wilson and Jake Gatewood. Trent Clark had a nice play in the field when he grabbed a ball off the wall in left field and threw the batter out at 2nd. Trent leads the Carolina League in outfield assists this year. Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log A consolation run in the 9th: Carolina Bottom of the 9th Monte Harrison doubles (8) on a line drive to left fielder Carmen Benedetti. With Corey Ray batting, wild pitch by Sebastian Kessay, Monte Harrison to 3rd. Corey Ray strikes out swinging. Jake Gatewood grounds out, shortstop Anibal Sierra to first baseman Yordan Alvarez. Monte Harrison scores. Isan Diaz walks. Weston Wilson strikes out swinging.

Rally falls short as Mudcats lose 7-5 to visiting Astros The Mudcats nearly overcame a 7-0 deficit in Saturday's loss to Buies Creek By Carolina Mudcats | August 5, 2017 9:51 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/1/2/227352412/cuts/480x380/cut.jpg (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats) Kodi Medeiros (3 2/3 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 6 K) started and took the loss. This game ends his streak of consecutive starts with 6 or more innings. The Astros seemed to switch strategies against him the second time through the lineup to swing at any fastball early in the count. Parker Berberet (4 1/3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) pitched well in relief but did allow two inherited runs to score in the 4th which proved to be the difference in the game. Wuilder Rodriguez worked a scoreless 9th. Trent Clark went 2-5 and Jake Gatewood 2-4 at the plate. Weston Wilson knocked in two runs with a double while going 1-4. Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log The game started well for Medeiros: Buies Creek Top of the 1st Myles Straw strikes out swinging. Stephen Wrenn strikes out swinging, catcher Cooper Hummel to first baseman Weston Wilson. Yordan Alvarez strikes out swinging.

Diaz and Hummel lead the way in 9-6 victory Diaz drove in four and Hummel scored three runs in a series tying victory at Buies Creek By Carolina Mudcats | August 4, 2017 11:19 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/0/0/231381600/cuts/16x9_DiazBatting_eja2e183_juk2hnsl.jpg Jordan Yamamoto (5 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR) had a rare off day but he did manage to make it through 5 innings and thus save the bullpen a little bit and get a win. Luke Barker (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K) with a 3 inning hold and Nate Griep gets his 21st save of the year. Isan Diaz (2-3, 2B, HR, Sacrifice Fly, 4 RBI) had a much needed breakout game today which included the go ahead run on his home run. Per the game story, Cooper Hummel (1-1, HR, Sacrifice Fly, BB, HBP, 3 Runs) also had a nice game. Weston Wilson had a triple in 4 at bats and Jake Gatewood a double in 4 at bats. Mudcats walked-off 5-4 in Buies Creek Weston Wilson hit a two-run home run for the Mudcats in the loss By Carolina Mudcats | August 4, 2017 12:56 AM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/4/1/2/227352412/cuts/480x380/cut.jpg (NIKOLAUS - Carolina Mudcats) Trent Clark (2-3, 2 2B, 2 BB, SB) and Corey Ray (2-3, 2 BB, SB) each reached base four times in this game. Unfortunately, the middle of the order (Jake Gatewood, Lucas Erceg and Isan Diaz) collectively went 2-13 with no RBI's. As a result, a lot of those baserunners were stranded. Weston Wilson was 2-4 with a home run on his return to the Mudcats. More of the same from Marcos Diplan (3 2/3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 4 K) who got the start. Brad Kuntz (2 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K) had another good outing in middle relief. Eric Hanhold took the loss. Corey Ray (1-4, HR, BB) got the Mudcats off to a lead with a 3 run opposite field home run in the first inning. Monte Harrison (2-5, HR, 2B, outfield assist) added another 3 run blast in the second. Harrison homers twice in 7-6 loss to Down East Monte Harrison went 3-for-5 with two mammoth home runs on Tuesday night By Gregory Young / Carolina Mudcats | August 1, 2017 11:15 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/3/3/2/245894332/cuts/16x9_MonteHarrison_1cp4ttvp_xp36e1zh.jpg The Mudcats could not overcome the poor start by Cody Ponce (4 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2 HR). The Wood Ducks hit just about everything Ponce threw. The 3 unearned runs came after Jose Cuas dropped a throw to first. Parker Berberet worked 3 innings giving up the remaining run. Luke Barker worked two scoreless innings to close out the game. I really love the approach Monte Harrison (3-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI) is taking this year, taking the fast ball back up the middle instead of trying to always pull it. The first home run was to dead center field where the ball rarely gets out in 5 Counties Stadium. Jake Gatewood and Luis Aviles were each 2-4 in the game. Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log Monte! Carolina Bottom of the 4th Monte Harrison homers (6) on a fly ball to center field. Isan Diaz grounds out to first baseman Carlos Garay. Jose Cuas called out on strikes. Carolina Bottom of the 7th Cooper Hummel flies out to right fielder LeDarious Clark. Jose Cuas called out on strikes. Corey Ray doubles (24) on a fly ball to left fielder Josh Altmann. Monte Harrison homers (7) on a fly ball to left center field. Corey Ray scores. Isan Diaz strikes out swinging. Isan Diaz was thrown out of the game after that last K. Frustrating year for him. -

Supak and Harber combine on four hit shutout The Mudcats won their third straight with a series opening victory versus Down East By Carolina Mudcats | July 31, 2017 11:43 PM ET http://www.milb.com/assets/images/6/0/0/241434600/cuts/Nasty_Supak_Strike.MP4.00_00_03_17.Still001_my1drbip_4piix3o9.jpg Trey Supak (5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) started and came out after 5 only because the Brewers are trying to limit his innings. Conor Harber (4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K) went the rest of the way. The Mudcats' coaching staff have taken some criticism but let's give Dave Chavarria some credit for helping turn around some guys who seemed totally lost. That would include Conor Harber and Eric Hanhold especially. Also some great defensive work in this game. That outfield with Ray and Harrison can really cover some ground. Corey Ray (2-3, 2B, 2 BB) and Monte Harrison (3-5, 2B) really set the table from the one and two spots in the order in this game. The first two runs were driven in by Jose Cuas (1-4, 2B) with a ringing double to the gap in left center. Charlie Meyer (1-3) got his first hit for the Mudcats. Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log Carolina Bottom of the 2nd Trent Clark reaches on a fielding error by second baseman Arturo Lara. Harrison just made an unbelievable catch. That will make the highlight reels.
