  1. Thank you so much NRT. Trying to network as much as possible. Couple places I know are busy in the Madison area but they're not hiring. I was just about to look into a new Mac with all the bells and whistles...then I got laid off. There's a Techskills in Madison I'm going to call tomorrow.
  2. I am realizing after just 1 week of not working I need to keep working on my skills. Unfortunately I do not have a Mac at home. Does anyone know of places in the Madison area that have access to Macs with the Adobe Creative Suite software on them. My local library does not. Thanks for any help. Also...how do I go about getting a certain domain name for a website? I was going to create one for a resume.
  3. Sorry I forgot to mention where I was. I'm about 30 minutes east of Madison, 1 hour west of Milwaukee. I've always worked in the Madison area. Not really sure how far I'd go for work right now. Depends on how long I'm unemployed I guess.
  4. Add me to the current list of unemployed brewerfan members. Got laid off yesterday...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif If anyone has connections for digital prepress, image manipulation, graphic art production, or color correction work, let me know. Thanks.
  5. Looks like it's definitely a format issue, it needs to be NTFS for bigger file sizes. I knew this but I 'thought' it was already formatted as NTFS. It is not. I tried formatting it when I first installed but I was getting error messages. I'll try again. Also ran into some issues when I installed the USB card (computer would start loading but never totally start up). I took it back out for now. I just want to get my stuff off the main HD in case that starts to go.
  6. Got the memory and the external hard drive. Installed memory and I now have over 1.5 G of RAM. I'm flying!! (not really) I'm trying to back up my internal 80G hard drive on to the new 1TB drive. I'm just trying to copy some big video files first to make sure it's working. Some copy but on some I'm getting an error saying there's not enough space even though it's only a 5G video file going on a 1 TB drive. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a size limitation as far as copying files manually or anything? Just not sure what to do. Thanks (again...)
  7. We're going up to Minnesota for the weekend, mainly to the Mall. Original plan was to go to a game but I'm a little worried my 5 year old girl would get bored quickly. I'm assuming the Dome doesn't offer all the 'other' stuff to do for kids other than sitting in the seat. Still may try and find tickets for Sat. night somewhere at the Mall or something. We'll see.
  8. I looked around a little. Bought the USB card on Ebay. Got a Western Digital 1 TB drive (external) for 110 on Newegg and also got memory on Newegg (2 - 512mb DIMMs) for less than 60 bucks. Really put about 65 bucks into the old computer because I hope to have the external hard drive for a while. Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.
  9. I found a gig of ram on Newegg for about 60 bucks or so. As far as the computer goes, the box says Gigabyte on it but it was a bundled deal at a computer show so I'm not real sure. crucial says the motherboard is: GMate GA-8ID533 Motherboard GBT___ System Model: AWRDACPI BIOS Version: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version: 5.1.2600 Memory (RAM) Capacity: 512 MB Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz Version: x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4 Speed: 2411 MHz
  10. The little scanning program on crucial.com went off my motherboard and found some memory upgrades. 1 gig of new memory (512mb x 2) for 120 bucks. I'm going to see what the local guy can do and compare. Seems a little pricey but I could be wrong. I am definitely going to get another hard drive. I really want an external (for when I do get my laptop) but I only have 2 USB ports. I have a 4 slot USB hub but I don't think it's going to be enough to power a hard drive. I usually have to plug other 'more power hungry' items directly into a port on the CPU, they won't work through the hub. Is there a possible solution to expand USB slots that can power hard drives, etc.? Thanks for the help so far.
  11. I have an older PC (Pentium 4) that I'm trying to lengthen the life of. I would like to add ram (has 512MB right now). I'm also close to filling up the 80G hard drive. Is there a way (other than cracking it open) to see how much RAM I can add? Or what kind? What else can I do at this point? I used to do maintenance on Macs but have to admit that messing with a PC is new, although I know I can do it, just not sure what to do. Just looking for a cost effective way to help the old dog run a little faster. I realize I could get a new system pretty cheaply but would like to try this first.
  12. Sorry, didn't see that. Thanks!
  13. Anyone have opinions on where to sit at the Metrodome. Taking the family to the Saturday night game. There isn't anything left between the bases in the lower level (need 3 tickets). Heard the upper deck is pretty high.
  14. That is so cool. Congratulations. My little girl has t-ball TRYOUTS tomorrow... ...yes, I typed that correctly, t-ball TRYOUTS!
  15. I asked this last year and I'm still having problems. I can get audio to work and it's fine. But Gameday and the boxcore popup from the audio window both have jumbled type. Bad enough that's it's unreadable. Almost like I need to load a font or something. Anyone?
  16. Born in early April and definitely love the Spring. Baseball, baseball, baseball...
  17. http://career-education.m...ndle-web-development.html Could someone look at this and see if this would do me any good at all? It's so much cheaper than any tech school stuff would be. I'm not getting a whole lot of help from "Cornerstone OnDemand". And I need to take online classes. I'm not worried about credits or a degree or anything. This looks like it leads to a couple certificates. Not sure if these certificates would be worth anything in the workplace. Just so you know, I'm just looking to add things to my resume, not get a degree necessarily. I'm almost 40. Not looking to become Rodney Dangerfield in 'Back to School' or anything.
  18. I got suckered in and bought 50 bids. Which really doesn't do anything unless you get really lucky. I used bidbutler on a couple auctions to see if there were other bidbutlers and there were. I tried to out-butler them for a while and realized it was a lost cause. I then went to a couple nailbiter auctions and lost those as well. At least I got it out of my system now and I'm only out 37.50. Went to bed about 3am. One of the auctions I was in on is still going on. One of them the guy ended up paying more than what it was worth. That's why I didn't go nuts cause that would've been me. To know just how pathetic I am realize I spent my last 10 bids in a Nailbiter auction for a cordless phone system. I DON"T HAVE A LANDLINE!! I was just trying to win anything at that point...
  19. Each time you make a bid, time is added on. So there isn't really an "end" time. A Macbook auction I watched on Friday was down to seconds at 7am but went until 3pm. That's why I'm not sure how you can figure out a time to bid.
  20. There was also an 80 dollar cash auction that someone ended up paying about 120 dollars for. Whoops. I think that's the main reason you need to use Bidbutler. I could easily see myself getting way too emotionally attached. It's almost like buying a raffle ticket. Although Rydogg did some awesome (and painstaking if you went 1000 pages back) research and was able to find the raffle with the best odds. I'm seriously addicted to this site. I worship the guys who came up with it (they are making a LOT of money), and am amazed at both the people who end up with great deals and the ones who pay more than the worth of the product. I've only went as far as registering. Haven't bought bids..............yet.
  21. That is so awesome. At least now I know a real person that won. I'm looking for a Macbook. I watched an auction all day on Friday. I think it lasted about 10 hours and sold for about 50 bucks. I almost got in on it at the end but chickened out. That's been around the average ending price but was worried because one went up to over a hundred. What were you looking for as far as what day they sold on? The cheapest final price or price w/ bids? Did you split up your Bidbutler between different price gaps? You obviously don't have to tell your secrets to the world. I'm just very impressed.
  22. It's like a dance marathon it seems. Last person standing wins. It seems like you have no idea how long it could last. I've been watching one for over an hour. It got down to 3 or 4 seconds about 10 times. Then jumped up to 20 minutes a couple times.
  23. I guess I was a little harsh with the scam remark. It's definitely a genius idea on the company's part. Just hard to imagine misfiring on your mouse button and not only missing out on your product but losing a bunch of money.
  24. Anyone ever try this? It's making no sense to me but I'm looking for a good deal on a MacBook. EDIT: Looking like kind of a scam to me.
