  1. These are two former high first round picks with power plus at positions of need (assuming Luc goes). That would be a heck of a trade for one year of a very good but not elite 1B. Ive been very underwhelmed with DS so far but this would be quite a haul. I don't know if it is a good haul...about what I would expect. Zunino and Peterson while have high ceilings, but both are very very high risk. Their floors are about as low as one can go. However I like both in the future. Peterson can be an average 1B some day and I think Zunino has a chance to be an average everyday catcher. While that is nothing ground breaking hard to argue with what we are trading to them. Lind is a rental, not free financially wise, and can't hit lefties. There is also that sliver of hope that one or both of them could end up being above average which would be amazing.
  2. So maybe Peterson, Zunino, and a lower level guy? Total high risk, high reward potential there.
  3. Good buy low candidate. He was respectable in his first go at AA, but feel off a cliff this year. Maybe something is wrong and an easy fix gets him back on track. For Lind he is a solid piece with one or two others to go with him.
  4. ALL three of those serviceable OFers COMBINED still have less HRs than Khris Davis had last year. Those 3= 20HR in 850 ABs Khris Davis= 55ish if he had 850 ABs I think we found a slight flaw. Serh Smith is the only half decent one. The other two are nothing.
  5. I think they overpaid regardless, but if he is a decent #2 it might be worth it for them. I really feel like they could have gotten Jose Fernandez or added just a little more to get him with that package though. Why not just got all out? Man if he resorts to being average what an awful trade that would be. Complete disaster...won't be able to judge this trade till he pitches and see where the D Backs go. If he pitches like a #2 and they win it all hard to be sad. clarkspencer ‏@clarkspencer 2h2 hours ago Hearing that #Marlins had deal working with D-Backs: Jose Fernandez for Corbin, Swanson and 3 others -- until Zona landed Shelby Miller. Wow I am pretty surprised they didn't make a deal work there. Corbin in it is a stinger, but Fernandez is way better than Miller...injury concerns...but still Fernandez is a legit elite pitcher.
  6. And one single season ending injury in that timeframe and you probably drop him because it isn't worth the constant circus at the MLB level. It would probably take 4 if you ask me. Maybe 50innings next year, then possibly low 100s, then 170innings, and then a full 200+. The more I think about it the less I would give up. Khris Davis for him would be a joke. Lots are pegging him as a mid rotation guy now. Why are we giving anything up for a guy who will take 4 years to hopefully become a mid rotation guy and in our dreams maybe a top of the rotation guy? With great chances of being a crippled mess and never start for half a season.

  8. Makes no sense for either side. AJ Pollock is the most underrated player in baseball. They already have a decent catcher and we don't need to be trading 2 years of Lucroy for just an extra year of control of another player.
  9. Package is crazy high, but they got a pitcher they needed for financially cheap. As long as he posts a low 3ERA it should work out fine for them. If he has a bunch of 2014 season...well ouch.
  10. No one is worth that. It gets to a point where a players value is so high no one can pay what they are worth. This is that case.
  11. Oh Dusty Baker with his...erm...thoughts: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/dusty-baker-goes-to-winter-meetings-says-incredibly-stupid-things-about-domestic-abuse/ar-AAgaUY8?li=BBnb7Kz
  12. This haul of prospects would be unheard of if they just flip Enciarte. Enciarte is worth a massive haul himself. Someone can correct me, but I can't remember a haul bigger than this.
  13. GREAT trade for the D Backs. They had to give up Enciarte, but hopefully Thomas is all they hope he is. What a turnaround for that team and a legit contender now. Think I just fainted when I heard the rest of the return...Swanson and Blair. WOW [sarcasm]Guess Swanson can come over in a Lucroy trade now.[/sarcasm]
  14. There'd be nothing to stop him from being traded before 2020. If he's performing, what's left of his controllable years would be valuable to a trading partner, just as it'd be valuable to the Brewers. It's not like they couldn't trade Phillips for a nice return either if Ozuna becomes a star you want to keep around. Stearns seems focused on acquiring talent at prime positions because the excess guys can always be used to fill holes elsewhere. Brett Phillips is left handed. For a team that lacks left handed bats so badly now and in the past I can't fathom thinking about trading him. I would probably drop kick my computer if we did that.
  15. Starlin Castro is as good as gone. Quite the deal for a 34 year old I will say though.
  16. How do you know I was even talking to you in the first place? That's right you don't and it was actually more at the person talking about deporting people over domestic violence. Which is getting pretty off topic and more political than anything. I also didn't mean to put race, only political. Not sure why I had it there, probably because these days they are always together. I tried to edit it when I originally posted it, but the internet apparently didn't agree. I also don't know what you mean by feeding my personal agenda. Unless of course that is reading baseball content on a baseball website. Trust me I couldn't care less about someones opinion on deporting people or anything related. All I am saying is that there is a forum specifically made for this on this website if people would like to vent feelings of that nature. The rest of social media is flooded with it for discussion.
  17. Most likely, just trying to rationalize clearing so many spots so early. Maybe there is no real reason than to just drop players you don't want. I just find it surprising to drop a potentially useful Strong before you really need to. What if the trades/claims/etc. don't make it to him and suddenly we have extra spots we didn't need? Sure I am probably overthinking it and Strong is nothing special, but it is a slow December day. What else does one do?
  18. What the hell else has the last half of this thread been about? How about you worry about what you have to say, rather than trying to limit content to what you approve of, and I'll worry about what I have to say? I'm sure if I fail in my effort to respect the rules of the board, the mods will let me know. I sure don't need your input. Haha I have to laugh because this is probably why they don't allow political talk Take a deep breath everything is going to be OK. How about you stick to baseball talk on a baseball forum? Seems to make sense. EDIT: And let me note I don't care about what you said. Was just trying to kindly get it back to baseball before it got out of hand.
  19. Says his Miami-area home so it is possible he lives outside city limits. It also says one bullet went in a field so that might support that claim. He also has a 10,000 square foot house so maybe another sign his house isn't in the city limits of whatever said city. EDIT: Seems as though he lives in Davies, Florida in a cramped area....so I agree, shocking he wasn't charged for that. Well it is Florida... Given the lack of physical evidence for the domestic violence, and the lack of an arrest, it will be hard for MLB to do much. Does anybody know what if anything in the CBA covers this? I'm glad the Brewers already traded K-Rod before this popped up in the news. Chapman probably won't be traded any time soon, and the return late in the off-season won't be all that good. I expect this will have blown over enough that the Reds can get something decent at the trade deadline. Yes MLB has the "Actions Detrimental to Baseball" clause where the commissioner can fine/suspend/ban as he sees fit. This is what the players in Biogenesis were labeled with. Any suspension would surely be appealed and I would assume go to the three vote system with a hearing and an independent arbitrator.
  20. I think the Brewers willingness to trade Lucroy is a lot higher than what has been thrown around. A few weeks ago Shelby Miller was going nowhere and the Braves wanted a ridiculous package...now he is probably on the move. Jose Fernandez had a 1% chance of moving and a few hours later it was at 40%. I also remember rival execs saying the Brewers might actually hold onto Gomez and the next second he was nearly a New York Met. Stearns said, "We don't need to trade Lucroy, we need more players like him." He is downplaying it a lot. Lets not beat around the bush...I know, you know, and Stearns knows Lucroy is not apart of the next competing team and needs to be traded in the next two years. Lucroy's value will never get higher and it is well known teams don't like trading for catchers at the deadline. It is either this offseason or taking likely less next offseason. The interest is massive now and the Brewers will get an incredible offer that they won't pass up. I would think a team with veteran pitchers would reap huge benefits with Lucroy. He wouldn't have to work with pitchers as much and pitch framing veterans has show to be much more successful. Lucroy could help out a veteran staff a lot.
  21. Interesting fact I saw today since we were talking about it before: You actually NEED open 40 man roster spots BEFORE the Rule 5 draft starts to draft a player. You are not allowed to draft a player and then go try to make a roster spot for him. [sarcasm]Maybe we are going to draft 5 players?[/sarcasm]
  22. Lind will be traded before the winter meetings end and I am sure we will see a lot of action on Rule 5 day. Patience my friends...remember he has a pretty good trade guy looming over him in Doug Melvin. Melvin had a lot of flaws, but he did a good job with his trades.
  23. Bold prediction Dylan Bundy never starts 15 games in a MLB season here on out. This guy can't even throw 25 innings without his arm crying for mercy.
