  1. There are these things called scouts that go and what players play. Based on those scouting reports from all the players considered to be traded for Stearns felt like this was the best talent potential. Instead of trading for some known role player like a future 1B/3B utility man he decided to throw darts at the board. I highly doubt Stearns was surfing baseball reference and saw these guys and thought that is what he wanted. I am sure he got scouting reports and briefed on their potential.
  2. Adam Lind was never a high strikeout guy. He had one season where he struck out 140 times, but outside of that only about 100 per season. He also was never a low average guy. Outside that one season, again, he hit .250 in two years, and then well higher than that in the rest of his full seasons. They aren't comparable at all.
  3. Brett Lawrie is a solid 2 WAR player...do you know what the White Sox sent out there last year?
  4. Then I am a bit concerned with Stearns as our GM. The kid has nothing left to prove in the minors with his bat. He strikes out a bit, but not at a concerning rate. Pretty sure they wouldn't be interested in the prospects of adding Gallo if holes in a swing concerned them.
  5. Not to nit pick but I think Jimmy Nelson would be our next most valuable player, then Smith, then Davis, and lastly Jeffress/Peralta to complete the Top 5. Though Nelson is highly unlikely to go anywhere.
  6. If asked if I prefer to have 60 or 70 wins this season, I choose 60. The gains of Luc's improved bat in the lineup don't move the needle enough to matter. In fact, I'd say it negatively affects the future to win the 4-5 extra games with him in over Maldy. I think there's still something to finding players who can actually play. So far, what does Maldy provide us? It really hasn't been stable. His job should be in jeopardy this spring. I think his job is pretty safe. We have no viable guy in the minors and why go pay more more to have a different backup?
  7. Bingo. We have a winner Bingo is right. Totally agree. But to answer the topic question, I think it may be Davis. However, I think this message board may implode when Davis doesn't get traded for a top 10 or two top 100 prospects. Not saying he's horrible, but a streaky hitter with average fielding skills and a terrible arm does not equate to top prospects coming back. Khris Davis to me is worth a low Top 100 prospect straight up with nothing else in the deal most likely. He is controlled 4 years and one of those being for league minimum. That is a lot of control for 30 homerun power. I think a lot of value will depend on the market when they decide to trade him. If you find a team really motivated to find a LF, looking for power, and/or looking for someone cheap he is going to hold a lot of value. The real question is if there is a team like that out there? Does someone need what Khris Davis supplies?
  8. I wonder if they went with Neil Walker because he doesn't choke and make costly errors?
  9. We gave up nothing to get Lind and he didn't really get any better in the year we had him. I am not sure why people are so shocked we didn't get much. And to answer your question I think they are trying to put a half interesting roster. We still have Braum, Nelson, Davis, and Santana. 2017 we will have the Phillips/Arcia excitement.
  10. Only reason he shouldn't be traded is if the offers are just not that good.
  11. I would not be totally against it. His 30+ homers would probably help sell tickets and his defense would make sure his offense doesn't help win too many games. Brewers could probably make some marketing gimmick out of his beard too.
  12. Not enough. If we're wanting the #1 pick (or top 3), we've got to lose more. We're competing against the Phillies, Braves and whoever miraculously heads to suckitude this season. That wasn't a concrete number.
  13. We are going to lose 90 games. I do not car one bit how heavy our line up is with RHP. No cares given... He also will make nowhere near $10mil that is baffling. If that was the case teams would have been flocking to get him when he was a 1/$8mil option.
  14. Why the weird title? Make sense for both sides.
  15. True, however our young pitchers are and to have someone as valuable behind the plate mentoring the pitchers throughout the game is invaluable. I don't see Lucroy going anywhere this year to be honest. I would love to see him traded as his value is somewhat high right now, but the perks of having him behind the plate for one more year are too rich. Plus, he could have a monster season this year and increase his trade value even more. First off how do we even know he is a good leader? It isn't like pitchers excel under him. I just don't see that argument. Brewers can go get a veteran off the scrap heap for $3mil if they insist on giving their pitchers a young catcher Secondly two years is going to trump one year no matter what. From the "rival executives" source many around the league expect him to bounce back so I doubt his value has fallen much. Right now he is somewhat. a long term piece and next year he is just a one year rental. His value will never be higher than it is now. And to anyone worried who our next catcher will be just remember 1.5 years ago our farm system was one of the worst in baseball and now it is one of the best.
  16. Amazing thing to read given where things stood just a short year ago. Shorter than that really. And we haven't even added Lucroy's mega haul or our Top 5 pick from next June. A lot to be looking forward to.
  17. If LaRoche wasn't such a horrible fielder maybe we could work something, but I don't see a big comeback worth dealing for him. Just let Jason Rogers have fun and take it over for a year. Maybe he surprises us all.
  18. Agreed I wish we knew what was up with Zunino. How does a trade go to talking about Zunino, who has MLB experience, to three teenagers? Weird change of direction. Wonder if Stearns wanted him as just a back up or for something bigger like to take over for Lucroy if they trade him. Stearns has already added two guys for the MLB roster and is looking for a new CF so maybe it was just to be the back up and to boot Maldonado out.
  19. What on earth does this have to do with our discussion about the next person to be traded? We said nothing about who they were being traded for...just who would be traded. I'm answering the point by saying that I'd like Stearns to re-set everything and calm down on the trades and not do it at all if he's following the Lind philosophy of trades. If he did that package for Lind as a one time-thing, fine. But, if he starts doing that with real assets like Will Smith, who someone mentioned above, that would be an awful move. So, I think I am on point. I'd argue Lucroy is more valuable than Gomez and Fiers put together, or more valuable than Shelby Miller. We need a GM that goes down those paths of trades. It is do-able based on recent other trades. If Stearns is going to over-rate metrics and going to look for diamonds in the rough buried in someone's system over real projectable physical attributes and talent, then I'd rather he sit tight and not move consequence. I am not comfortable right now with the 30 year old kid holding real assets in his hand. Right this is just a discussion board. Now that the Lind trade is done we need something new to talk about. That really is all this thread is about. We are not cheering on Stearns to rush to the next trade in the next hour.
  20. The thing with Will Smith is that he has enough of a track record maybe in a year or two you could consider an extension with him assuming he is still pitching well. Good lefties in a bullpen don't grow on trees. Now I am not saying lets sign him to a big extension or to not trade him. All I am really saying is that he could easily be around the next time we compete if we want. It isn't like he is comparable to Lucroy in the fact that if we did extend him down the line we would be overpaying him for his down years. Maybe if we guarantee him some years in arbitration plus some FA years we can get a discount...maybe not I don't know. We shouldn't try to trade Will Smith just because he is starting to make money...at least not on the reason alone. Will Smith is still very cheap and young. If the right offer comes of course you would take it, but if we get some OK offer maybe you pass.
  21. What on earth does this have to do with our discussion about the next person to be traded? We said nothing about who they were being traded for...just who would be traded.
  22. Agreed a ton of kids will add a lot of velocity in the 18-22 range. Knew someone who was throwing 92 his senior year of high school and he exploded at 20 years old and got up to 98. Now while said person was also 6-7 it doesn't change the fact that players don't usually mature velocity wise until they get into their lower 20s.
  23. Here I fixed it: [sarcasm]Package around Segura for Pentecost[/sarcasm]
  24. I don't see how it doesn't make a ton of sense. It makes all the sense in the world. With how much decent relievers cost in free agency, being able to get years of cheap control on one in a trade is probably appealing to a lot of teams. I'd be shopping Smith, Knebel, Blazek and Jeffress all over, either alone or as part of a package to see what we could get. Doesn't make a ton of sense=doesn't usually happen often. Also neither is a closer which porbably doesn't help their trade value. Teams want the guys with the closer label on them. I also just don't see the motivation to move either one of them. Maybe Will Smith since he is arby eligible, but teams don't really move guys in those pre arby years unless blown away. I would love to trade them both for a big haul don't get me wrong.
  25. Besides all the obvious risks and problems with Adam Lind I am not sure I would want to offer $17mil to a guy who, in two trades, has brought back a guy in Marco Estrada who was likely to be DFAed and three prospects who can't even rank in the top 30 of one of the worst systems in baseball. For a guy who had 21 teams interested in him he doesn't seem to bring back much value. Way too risky to be offering $17mil to a guy like that. He has only made $30mil in his career I bet $17mil for a year would be really nice.
