  1. It was discussed in the game thread after another day of struggling with runners in scoring position. I and others pointed out the struggles the Brewers have had over the years in getting a runner in from third with less than two outs. Here is the link to the stats page I was looking for. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2017-situational-batting.shtml 2017: 24th 2016: 28th 2015: 19th 2014: 24th This has been a problem for this team for years.
  2. There you go - thanks for the research. Turns out with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs this year we are actually...really really good. People seem to assume you should score at least 1 run 95% of the time in that situation, but the actual norm is far from that. Would be curious how that compares to the rest of MLB, but I'd figure pretty favorably. Found the stats I was looking for, last year we were 28th. This year 24th. 47% is not good. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2017-situational-batting.shtml
  3. Here's runners left in scoring position per game We have left the 10th most in scoring position. We ranked in the same spot last season https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/runners-left-in-scoring-position-per-game
  4. Any stats to support this? Always feels that way but I wonder how the numbers actually compare. From what I've read, we've been below average the last few seasons. I will look and try to find stats for this season.
  5. Other teams seem to do a better job at it than our team. This has been going on for years. It's been especially bad lately. Everything these professionals do on the field is beyond our skill level. Why have a message board if the fans can't criticize players.
  6. I'm on gamecast. Was the Mets infield actually playing back? If not, he really can't just put it in play, he has to make sure it is at minimum a fly ball to the OF, that is not as easy as trying to punch it to the 2B. Right, and lineouts aren't going to get it done either. There is luck involved. The infield was in, so a ball hit right at one of them probably doesn't get the run in either, but it's a lot easier to get a hit through with the drawn in infield. The point is there have been way too many missed opportunities lately when all we needed was a ball in play to get a run in.
  7. Working a 10 pitch at bat is not terrible. Not always going to come through in those spots. Last I checked they are major league pitchers out there too. It was terrible. Racking up a pitch count is pretty meaningless when it is a reliever. And all he needed was to put a ball in play, if there's a runner at 3rd with less than two outs and you strike out, its a terrible at bat, doesn't matter how many pitches it goes.
  8. Just some downright awful approaches with runners on base
  9. The Cards are trailing the wild card by 6 games (Colorado and Arizona). Which means if we weren't leading the central we'd be trailing the wild card by 4.5 games. That seems like the best NL division so maybe one of those two teams slips in the second half. Probably for Arizona depends on if Pollock can stay healthy which seems to be a problem for him. Only need one out of those three teams in the West to come back down to earth. The WC line right now is a lot better than what you'd normally expect. Colorado and Arizona are both due for a downswing, the numbers especially point to Colorado experiencing one. LA might be legit though.
  10. As delighted and surprised as I am that the Brewers are winning, it is even more satisfying that Genius Joe Madden's Unstoppable TheoCubs are scuffling. Can you imagine how desperate things would be in Chicago if the Indians pushed across a run in the bottom of the 9th last year? Honestly, their pitching situation doesn't look much better than ours.
  11. Magic number down to 110 with both the Brewers and Cardinals winning. 1.5 game lead on STL and 2.5 on the tanking Cubbies.
  12. And that'll knock the magic number down to 111.
  13. Did you guys know the team name is literally the Brewers? Says it right on the jersey.
  14. With another Cardinal loss today the magic number is down to 112
  15. So we're in desperate need of a lefty in the pen, we've got a guy begging to be DFA'd in Drake, why not call up Wang?
  16. Cubs Lose! It's a 1.5 game lead for your first place Milwaukee Brewers heading into Memorial Day!
  17. We have a magic number again! It is down to 113!
  18. And just like that the Cubs have been shutout twice in a row and the Brewers are back all alone in first place!
  19. Counsell just does not have the look or feel of a grumpy, tough guy, so his tirades come off as a little lacking in intimidation. Still a lot better than RRR, A LOT BETTER! I like seeing the fire though... That's the most fired up I've ever seen Counsel and it absolutely looked genuine, surprised by the original comment.
