If Hardy can hit as well as I think he can, we really won't have a single liability in the lineup, even when a lefty is being thrown at us. When was the last time we could say that? Craig Counsell is still a liability IMO
Been looking forward to today since the end of football season and it's finally here. I'm not able to be at the game, but I took the day off and have my brats ready and the fridge is full of beer. Brewers win today 6 - 3 highlighted by HRs by Jenkins and Billy Hall.
I work in a cubicle and my co-worker is constantly playing country music too loud. She'll turn it down when I ask, but I need to ask almost every day -- then when one of her favorite country songs comes on she needs to turn it up and start dancing. I guess that's when I put in my Drop Kick Murphy's in and make sure it's loud enough for her to get annoyed.
I don't buy this "rumor". Why would Colorado now turn around and trade Tavaras? Weren't they looking at CF options all offseason (including possibly dealing for B. Clark)? IMO Tavaras isn't going anywhere.
who has only had a decent ERA the past few years because STL has had the best defense in the NL Suppan was pretty good in Pitsburgh in '03 having a 3.57 ERA over 141.00 innings. I like this idea simply because we'd then ship Jenks/Mench for some bullpen help or minor leaguers which would really balance out the salary paid.
In A Perfect World, He Becomes: A No. 2 starter and occasional All-Star This is what they said about Yo. I guess IMO in a Perfect World he's a No. 1 and a regular all-star. I think he has the talent to at least be a No. 1 or at least a No. 1b type.
in my opinion cirillo>>counsell..especially now with graffy going to be around As a hitter I agree. However, Counsell gets the edge on this team as far as value due to his ability to play SS every day if needed. The Crew already has Graffy who really takes over a lot of the duties Rillo did. I'd love to see Jeff back (he's one of my favorites). However, if I were him I think I'd strongly consider Minnesota because he can DH and get more ABs.
3 of the past 5 years of ERA over 5.00, to a 4 Dude pitched 40 innings in '03 w/an ERA of 5.53. I think that's too small of a sample to really validate this "fact".
I guess I can see why some may think Marquis will still get a good contract. My thinking was that he's coming off a really poor year and really didn't have an "excuse" (injury, etc). I thought he'd be a guy looking at signing a short term deal, hopefully improve his production and cash in next year. Other points are definately valid as t his is a crazy year for Free Agency. I guess I have a hard time gauging it
There has been a lot of talk about a possible deal for Lieber. Rumors have the Crew possibly sending Tbow AND Mench to Philly for a 37 year old pitcher who's getting paid $7 mil plus. I realize Jason Marquis is coming off a terrible year (6+ ERA), but his previous years he's really been pretty good. My question is, would you rather have Marquis and not have to give up anything and hope that Maddux can bring him back to his career norm. Or, would you want Lieber for $7 mi + and have to give up Mench and Tbow? I guess I would want Marquis and I'm not sure why the Crew wouldn't explore that option first before a trade.
For those who think more salary needs to be paired for the Brewers to make a Schmidt deal a reality, it's been said already that there is room for a big name free agent You're correct; there is room for a big name free agent. However, I think most of that talk is also based on the Crew dealing Jenkins which has seemed like a forgone conclusion since the last month of the regular season. I may be wrong, but I always just assumed when they looked at the 2007 payroll that Jenkins # was not included.
The Brewers do have the resources to sign Schmidt and trade nearly equal value of Jenkins for Benson. That would indeed be a very Merry Christmas. I think any potential signing of Schmidt would be based on DM being able to free up the $7+ mil that is currently invested in Jenkins. Trading Jenks for Benson would add salary and then try to get Schmidt for at least 15 mi/yr? I don't see it happening. I would imagine if Schmitt was signed Jenkins would be dealt for someone with a much more managable salary.
? The Devil Rays for now wisely are rejecting overtures for outfielders Carl Crawford and Rocco Baldelli, who as young established players under cheap contracts are exactly the building blocks the team needs. If they can establish at least two of their next wave of youngsters -- Elijah Dukes, Delmon Young and B.J. Upton -- then they could begin to think of dealing from positional depth for pitching. sportsillustrated.cnn.com...tte/1.html I never really understood the Devil Rays desire to trade either Crawford or Baldelli, and now it looks like they're rethinking that plan.
If, however, you are looking to move Braun to a corner OF spot, you could settle your 3B position for three years by getting Beltre. I don't like Beltre. The guy had one huge year prior to getting a large check. The years prior and the years after signing the contract the guys has been average. If we were going to move Braun to OF then I'd rather have Hall back at 3rd base.
Hudson is coming off his worst season in the bigs (4.86). I would hope we could land a better player than Hudson for Hall straight up, but then to add/keep the salaries of Jenkins and Hudson would not be wise IMO. I don't see why so many people want Hall traded? Until his FA year I can't even fathom the idea of trading a young hitter like that.
Could Parra be like Carpenter and be the next big pitcher to come back from injuried plagued years??? He could, as could Mike Jones... but for every Carpenter there are 20 + Nick Neugebauers.
Was this suppose to be in blue?? I don't think so... while I don't consider Hart as a consistent HR threat (as he's only played about a half season) I do think he will become that eventually. I'd expcet Hart to be around a 30 HR guy in his prime.
Does anyone think we could really get Kim for just Brady Clark? Why not? Kim isn't very good. 5.57 era in '06 and 4.87 in '05? I don't see him having much value at all.
Besides, Rivera posted a very respectable .778 OPS playing every day the last two weeks I'm not a big fan of signing Zaun either, but Rivera's OPS over 2 weeks really shouldn't be a reason to not sign him. Way too small of a sample for me to be convinced.
Im just saying, it would be nice Ohh... my bad. In that case. It'd be nice to sign Clemens, Zito, and Schmidt and then deal Bush, Davis, and C Vil to get Manny.
But we have an amazing pitching rotation if we sign Schmidt. Did I miss something? I haven't heard one word about there even being a possibility the Crew would sign Schmidt.
look at Drew's year last year and then Jenkins year....they are not that different, at least considering that Drew's salary will be double that of the uber-maligned Jenkins. Jenkins 2005 was actually better than Drew's 2006. Makes me start to think that the Crew may be able to get more for Jenkins in a deal than expected.
If the Orioles are unable to get a bat through free agency, they could also explore one in a trade. The Mariners' Richie Sexson and the Reds' Adam Dunn are among the players who might be available at the right price. Baltimore Sun I'd love to have Richie back in Milwaukee. Any thoughts on his ability to play left (I can't imagine he'd be any worse than Dunn) and have Hall or Hart play center?
