I saw an article on CNNSI that says Atlanta still needs some help in the outfield. Hart for Jair Jurrjens (sp?)? Then you can probably keep Prince this year and take picks for him.
-
I don't know about any three. Would you trade Jeffress, Odorizzi, and Rogers? What happens in two years when Greinke walks? You'd be setting your organization back by years making a trade like that. Look at how long it took to develop three pitchers with this much talent. I just can't see trading all three. What about this trade. Jeffress, Lawrie, Parra and Cameron Garfield? There is a very high ceiling pitcher, and very high ceiling hitter, and a lower level player at a hard to find position and someone you can throw in the rotation right away. If KC would take that, I'd then go to Greinke and say "How much does it take to extend your contract by 2 years?", and whatever he says I give to him. Then I trade Prince for two hitting prospects, I re-sign Weeks, and I draft two pitchers with those top 15 picks in the 2011 draft. Highly unlikely, I know, but that's what I would love to see.

Well the only problem with that is that if you go to a lower plan you lose your rollover minutes. That is an ATT thing and that is totally dumb if you ask me. Yeah I noticed that. When I updated my plan, even though I technically kept the same plan, I lost almost 1500 rollover minutes. I had 1918 and I have to go down to the number of minutes that the plan includes i.e. 450. So to save $10 a month, I lost all those rollover minutes even though I didn't even technically change plans. Kinda sucks.

When I wanted to cancel my contract earlier this year, I was told instead of doing that I should go on a 50 minute a month plan, for 19.99, for the remaining 2 months of my contract to avoid my early termination fee. They have a 50 minute plan? The reason I switched to AT&T originally was because of their rollover minutes. I work third shift and the vast majority of my phone usuage is at night when I get like 3000 night/weekend minutes. Because of that, I have 1900 rollover minutes right now (to compare I have a 450 minute per month plan, so I could live on rollover minutes alone for probably 4 months). I occasionally ask AT&T reps on the phone whether or not they have a plan with fewer minutes and they have always said no. I'll have to look into that. Just by chance, are you in the Milwaukee area? Is it possibly a local thing that is not offered by me? Edit: I just checked out the rate plans online again and it didn't say anything about a 50 minute plan. I did see that the plan I was currently enrolled in went down by $10 a month though. I called their customer service line and they said they price didn't automatically go down, that I had to basically re-enroll in the plan to get the $10 a month off. I did that, but by doing so I am going to lose like 1500 rollover minutes at the end of the month for some reason. I also asked her if she had any plans with fewer than 450 minutes a month and she said no. Although I suppose it's probably a better deal to get 400 more minutes a month for only $10, especially when changing my plan requires me to lose most of my rollover minutes.

Once again, you continue to try to shrug off all responsibility. I'll tell you what Straw. If you can find a general consensus on the phone, or even a few examples, of this particular phone having the same problem that I had with it, then I will take all responsibility. Even if I did do research on it, I wouldn't have found something like this. An LG Vu may not be an Apple Iphone, but it should work. Plain and simple, it should work. Like I've pointed out numerous times, this isn't some minor flaw. I don't care how cheap the tv is that you buy from Best Buy, you should still be able to work the volume control and change the channel. If this phone is known to be such a piece of crap, why is AT&T selling it? But maybe Gifted is right, maybe it's just bad luck. But to constantly suggest this is my fault for not doing my research on this particular phones leads me to believe you can provide me with some reviews of it saying that the touch screen calibration will be so screwed up that it's unusable within a year. I don't care that the keyboard is a little too small. I don't care that it may be a little hard to navigate. I don't even care if it shuts off on it's own a few times. Those are the type of things you'll find when you look it up. I also don't agree with your attitude that the more money you spend on a product the fewer problems you will automatically have. Doesn't the Iphone have all sorts of problems? I paid $5500 for my car back in 2004 and I've had little to no problems with it. That goes against what you are saying. A more expensive phone is going to have more features but will not necessarily be more durable. That's what I've been trying to say.

The phone sucks yes, but that's not ATT's fault. The best comparison I can think of is something like this. I don't want to get into anything political, but last year Milwaukee County hired private security guards to secure the courthouse and replace the in-house guards. Now if you were at the courthouse and you got beat up, who would you blame? The private security guards for not doing their jobs to protect you, or the county for hiring the clowns who apparently aren't capable of doing what they were hired to do? I can see both ways. In this case, it is directly LG's fault. They made the thing and it didn't work. But AT&T sold it to me. AT&T obviously thought it was good enough for them to slap their logo on and recommend that their customers buy. I think it's just as much their fault as it is LG's because in the end they are responsible for what they sell. i wonder what might come of it if you called the phone manufacturer directly and told them about your issue Yeah I just wonder if it's worth it. The phone has been discontinued, and even if it wasn't I wouldn't want them to send me a new one because I've had two bad experiences with it. I've already paid to get a replacement, and I'm sure LG won't cover that cost. I suppose I could ask for a new phone and sell it to try to cover the loss, but again, is it worth all that effort for only $50? Who knows....maybe one day when I get bored I'll give them a call. Thanks for the advice.

I can understand being disappointed, and I can understand the frustration of not having a phone. But it seems you are eager to blame everyone else, when a great deal of the responsibility falls on your own shoulders for buying a cheap piece of equipment. I understand what you're saying Straw. I do. But the phone lasted 10 months. If it had been, say, 19 months of the 24 month contract, I'd be more willing to accept the issue. Also, it's not like it's some minor flaw that is really more of an inconvenience. It's been 10 months and the phone is shot. It's useless. I just don't see how this is entirely my fault. A phone made by a fairly major company shouldn't be this bad. For what it's worth, the phone is an LG Vu CU920. The reviews I've seen on it have been mostly good. People seem to think it's difficult to use and the touch screen keyboard is too small (which it is), but I certainly didn't find anything that suggests it only works for a few months.
-
So, really, how is it AT&T's fault that you decided to tie their service with them to a crappy phone maker? The fault lies with LG It's AT&T's fault because they obviously bought the phones from LG or made some sort of agreement with them to sell their phones. And again, I realize these things may not last an entire two year, but I expect any phone I buy to last more than 10 months. I really understand all of your points. I'm just pissed is all. Not having a phone is a HUGE inconvenience.
-
At some point that hassle has an economic value to you. Is it $50? $100? $200? $500? Figure out what that threshold is and determine if that amount really has a significant impact on your finances. Some things are worth it, some things just aren't. The thing is, if this was something minor...like other problems I've been having.....it'd be one thing. If the phone shuts off by itself sometimes...fine. If the screen is kind of messed up and I have to look at it really closely to see what screen I am on...whatever. But I can't even use this darn thing now...and it's not my fault (trust me, they looked for reasons to blame me). I think if they give you a phone that ends up being something that you can't even use, they should replace it for free. I understand what you're saying. Pay more and get a better phone. But is there really any guarantee I won't have the same problem with a more expensive phone? Like I said, I always just assumed it was more expensive because of the features, not necessarily the quality.
-
What were you expecting them to do? Void your contract for free? No....I expect that when I sign a contract that lasts for two years I am provided with a piece of equipment that lasts as long as that contract runs. I was given two brand spanking new phones and neither of them lasted even half of the length of the contract. It wasn't the cheap free phone they offer, I actually did pay for this one, though admittedly probably not more than $50 or $60. I don't think it's unreasonable to believe they should give you something that actually works for long enough to be able to use for the length of your contract. I would think you pay more for a particular phone because of all the added features, not because they are the only phones that actually work. I got a brand new phone less than 10 months ago....and as of this message, I can't read texts, I can't send texts, and I can't dial phone numbers. I also can't set the alarm clock, and if I could, I probably wouldn't be able to turn it off All I can do is answer the phone when it rings. Are you seriously suggesting that it is my fault that this happened because I didn't buy the $200+ phone? Also, this isn't one phone we're talking about. This is literally every phone (4 I believe) I've ever gotten from AT&T. Spend the $200 and get an Iphone or Blackberry I don't need, nor do I want, an Iphone or a Blackberry. Call me old fashioned, but the only things I use my phone for are actually talking on the phone, text messaging, and I use the alarm clock. I don't need internet....or tv.....or 950,000 songs....on my phone. And I am not going to spend $200 for a phone that offers all of that. 1) Continue using your current broken phone as is. I can't use the phone. Not in the least bit. All I can do is answer calls because the button to answer it is not on the touch screen. Let's hope my house doesn't start on fire huh? 2) Get a $50 replacement via your warranty. This is the option I had to go with, though it's with insurance, not warranty. The difference of course being that if I wasn't paying them more money every month I wouldn't be able to get a discounted phone at all. 3) Buy a new phone and re-up with a new two year contract. Even if I wanted to do this, I can't. That's right. My two phones didn't even last long enough to get me to the point where I can resign and get a new discounted phone. I'd still be without a phone for about a week and half if I select this option. 4) Pay the early termination fee. I think it's pathetic to admit that I actually considered this option. But I figure it make more fiscal sense to get a new one for $50 because surely this phone will last at least 4 months....right? "could care less" Haha not to sound like a jerk but I said "couldn't care less". But yes, I am sick of this cycle. You bring your phone into a store with the hopes that maybe there is some trouble shooting they can do to get it to work again and all they do is tell you that you can resign and get a buy one. And to have multiple people tell you that within 5 minutes gets me very frustrated. It makes me believe that either a) they really couldn't care less and are trying to get you to buy a new phone or re-up as a customer right away because that's how they've been trained or b) they all know their phones are such crap that this is no point in trying to fix them because it's not going to do any good. There's no other service I pay so much money for that I am so continually dissatisfied with. Absolutely. And to be fair, I have AT&T for cable too and I'm more satisfied with their customer service. I was having some issues that they couldn't resolve and the lady on the phone was actually telling me "I'd be frustrated too. If we can't fix it then we should at least give you a discount"....which they did. Eventually they got it fixed but I got $50 credits on my bill a few times.

2011 General Draft Discussion
paul253 replied to colbyjack's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I am usually not in favor of high school pitchers, but two high ceiling HS pitchers who can throw mid 90's would be nice. I know it's probably unlikely they'd take a HS pitcher with the second pick because they have to sign the player they take. I agree with Louis, an SS would be nice too. As much as I think we could use some bats in the system, I think history shows that you need pitching, pitching, and more pitching. The 2009 draft with the two Davis's and Gennett produced some nice results last year. So ideally, I'd like two high ceiling HS pitchers, but I also think BPA is always a good way to go. -
So I have ATT for phone service and I am so frigging pissed at their company. I've had them for about 5 years. But don't get me wrong, it's not because I am satisfied with their company. It's because their phones are such crap that I always end up resigning early because the phones they give me take a dump and I don't want to drop $50 to use my insurance to get a new phone. So with this latest contract I signed in February of 2009 I got a touch screen phone. Not because I wanted a touch screen but because that was the only decent phone they offered that didn't involve me paying like $200 for one. Within 10 months I had to send that phone back because it just kept shutting off on it's own. That was under warranty and they sent me a brand new version of the same phone. Well today, less than 10 months after I got a second brand new touch screen phone, this one takes a dump too. Being a touch screen phone, it makes it impossible to use when the touch screen calibration is so far off that in order to dial the number one I have to touch somewhere in the area of where the number 8 is. I tried doing the re-calibration program after I finally worked my way in there, but it kept saying "invalid", probably because it was so far off that I wasn't anywhere near the +'s that I was supposed to be touching. I can't dial numbers and I can't text. I can sometimes read texts, but it takes an effort to do that. So now I have to make a special trip to the mall to figure out what is wrong with this piece of crap. I take it there, and it's like they know that there's no point in trying to actually make it work. So what do they say? Oh guess what, you are eligible for an "upgrade". All you have to do is sign a new two year contract. I tell them in no short terms what I think of that idea. My ONLY other option....buy a new phone. It's not all bad, I do have insurance....you know that $5 a month I've been paying for 4 years. But I still need to pay $50 to get a replacement. So I tell them fine....I'm so sick of their company I'll pay the stupid copay just so I can switch companies. But of course the new one won't get shipped for 1-2 days, and won't arrive for 1-3 days after that. So I'm looking at minimum 2 days and up to 5 without phone service. I live alone so now no roommate's phone to burrow in case of an emergency or anything. So basically in the two year contract I had to sign in order to avoid paying some ridiculous price for a phone, I get not one but two phones they can't last even a year. I have to pay to get a third phone just so I can wait out the remaining four months of my contract so I can move on. And after I pay I have to go minimum two and half days without even having a phone that I can use. The sales reps couldn't care less about the issues...all they want to do is sell me a new phone. For anyone who is looking at phone companies for cell phones, I highly recommend staying away from AT&T

Team by team analysis of Fielder trade partners
paul253 replied to NYChez's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There was some talk earlier about Seattle. I would love to get Michael Pineda for Fielder. The guy dominated in AA and had very good secondary numbers is AAA with a 79/17 so/bb rate, though he gave up a lot of home runs, in 62.1 innings. I'm not sure if he'd be ready to start in Milwaukee right away, but can you imagine a Nashville rotation of Rogers, Jeffress, Pineda. and Rivas? Seattle's offense was horrible last year and Jack Z. may feel some pressure to improve it in a hurry. Fielder could obviously do that. Pitching was their strength and they could probably afford to trade away a prospect. I know they just got Smoak but Fielder would be a major improvement over anyone they trotted out last year at first base or at DH. -
Yeah i didn't read the actual article when I saw it but there was a little subtitle in the story that I saw that said "Military testing in area"....that was a statement like there was in fact military in the area, not a question.

2011 General Draft Discussion
paul253 replied to colbyjack's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I understand that. What I meant is that I hope they don't select someone at #15 who probably shouldn't go until the 40's because they think he'll be easier to sign than someone with more talent. In other words, I hope they go with best player available with both picks, not best player available who I think we can sign for what we want to sign him for. -
2011 General Draft Discussion
paul253 replied to colbyjack's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I am really excited about the draft with 2 picks in the top 15. I really, really hope the Brewers don't go cheap on the second pick for signability concerns and end up drafting a reliever or something. Spend the extra million or so and get someone with a higher upside. -

Not to keep going on this, but did the ticket actually say "jaywalking"? I bet it didn't. I'll tell you what. If you can find the actual citation, or maybe have some way of looking up the violation, give me the ordinance number or state statute that was listed on it and I'll see if I can find what that violation says. Adam...any updates?

Yeah but that was in Seattle.

Actually, IIRC, the MPD conducted a "jaywalking sting" at Marquette last semester after a student got hit by a car. Well whatever. Who called it "jaywalking"....the cops or the general public? I put my definition of jaywalking out there and I stand by the fact that simply crossing the street outside of a crosswalk is not illegal. If someone can find proof otherwise, I'll gladly admit that I was mistaken. The streets around MU are all pretty busy, especially during the day, so I imagine a lot of the people who cross anywhere other than a controlled intersection do in fact obstruct traffic when they cross, which would be illegal. I never meant to hijack this thread so I'll let it go. I just wanted to point out how irresponsible that one statement was, particularly the part about the parking tickets.
-
Diskono....from what I gather by reading your post, I get the impression that you are just fine with blindly repeating false generalizations about certain groups of people. When I correct you on those generalizations, you basically say "I don't care, I'm going to keep repeating them anyway". I'm not yelling at you or anything, but yes, I am telling you that you are wrong. When someone comes on here and says they got mugged and called the police, and you reply "don't expect them to do anything because they are too busy writing parking tickets" is insulting to the people that put their lives on the line every night to keep people like you safe. Then to come back and claim you have respect for them is an insult to the intelligence to whoever it is you are saying that to. It's not semantics....I am telling you to get your facts straight before you repeat something that is blatantly incorrect. The reason people will continue to believe it is because people like you continue to repeat it even though you admit you have no idea if it's true or not. If my customer calls and asks if something they want to do is possible, I tell them that I'll look into it and get back to them. If I can't find a solution, I need to call them and tell them that it's not doable, or else I upset (and potentially lose) customers. Similarly, a police department is a service, and the people are its customers whose problems (like a stolen ipod) they are there to solve. Even if there's no news, you need to follow up. That's just basic customer service. I'm not asking them to catch every criminal, I'm asking them to call me back and say "Sorry, we can't find the guy who took your ipod, but let us know if you find out anything new that might help." I could not disagree with you any more. In your business, you are polite and nice and make call backs and do whatever else it is you do because if the people you are dealing with aren't satisfied they will stop giving you business. You do it for your own sake. If you are not satisfied with how the police handle a case, you are still going to call them the next time you need their services. You are not a customer. You are either a victim or a complainant. And what is the point of calling you back to tell you nothing is new? If I got that call I'd be like "well then why are you calling me?" I go back to my case. The suburban department I dealt with did not call me back. So again, it's not an MPD thing, its a police thing. Some may call you back with updates, but I'd guess the majority would not, especially for something as minor as a car break in. As one of the other posters noted, there are like 36,000 property crimes a year in the city. Do you really expect the police to call back every single victim to tell them they haven't caught the guy yet? You're not being realistic. It seems like you are directing your anger at the police instead of at the person who stole your girlfriend's possessions. The complaints I'm reading here make it sound like theft reports just get filed away, never to be seen again. You know what, I'm sure a lot of them do. You need leads/evidence to proceed with an investigation. If you have none, you're stuck and there's really nothing for you to do. I ask you this, if I come out and see my car was broken into, and there were no witness and no cameras in the area, what exactly are they supposed to do? Keep in mind that fingerprints don't prove anything.
