  1. This was an issue awhile ago when there was some talk about Milwaukee getting an expansion MLS team. I actually don't know if they are looking to expand anymore or there are any teams looking to move, but I was wondering what the general opinion of the people was on this topic. I for one do not like soccer. I think it's boring. If we got a team and a new, soccer only stadium to go with it I'd probably go to one game to see the stadium. But Milwaukee does seem to have a nice soccer tradition. The indoor Wave have been playing for years, and they had some minor league outdoor teams in the Rampage and Wave United awhile ago. They also have some pretty good amateur teams (The Bavarians) and Wisconsin High School Soccer produces some very good teams every year who are nationally respected. I actually wouldn't mind an MLS team in Milwaukee if they got a new, privately funded stadium in downtown Milwaukee. It would be a boon to the economy and liven up downtown a little bit. I think it would be great local businesses. I'd be a little worried about the affect it'd have on the Brewers' attendance, but the Brewers seem to have a pretty solid fan base. A new stadium though, assuming it's big enough, could possibly bring international games to Milwaukee too which would be something new and exciting. And you could hold some pretty good high school tournaments there if you could find someone to sponsor them. Anyway, I'm sorry if nobody is interested in this topic but I was bored and was just curious what people thought.
  2. If Sonny Gray fell to that point in the draft (13th) the Brewers would be insane to pass on him. The one thing I would be concerned about with Gray, and I am only getting this from the scouting report I read off of the website, is him ending up in the bullpen. If the Brewers really feel like he can stick in the rotation I'd be thrilled to get him. But I wouldn't ever want to make a first round pick, particularly one so high, on someone who is likely to be a reliever. After losing Covey last season they need to select college-pitching in this ultra-deep once-every-seven-year-type drafts. I used to think that they should draft at least one hitter, maybe even two, with their top two choices due to what I consider a real lack of top tier hitting prospects in the system once Lawrie got traded. But now I am definitely thinking they should go pitcher-pitcher with their top two picks. This draft is as deep in pitching as any draft in recent memory. If you can get a pitcher would be usually be a top 6-7 pick with the 15th pick, you have to go for it.
  3. Whatever is decided needs to be decided soon. I'm sorry but the defense at the Major League level is going to be awful. I would say Carlos Gomez is the only one you could consider to be above average. Gamel needs to be given a position and he needs to play it every day so he can improve. Melvin....decide who is going to play first base next season. Your current options are Casey McGehee and Corey Hart. I would let Corey Hart play first base because he is a big target and grew up playing first base. This means you play Mat Gamel every day in right field. But if you think McGehee will play first then keep Gamel at third and let him play that every day. How can you expect Gamel to advance defensively when he plays three different positions? He should not be viewed as a utility player but I have a feeling that is exactly how they are treating him and it is really frustrating to me.
  4. I'd rather take a shot at signing Greinke. If you are willing to give Prince 5/$100 million, that would be a very good start on Greinke. Even if we have to add a 6th year. Maybe 6 years $120 million? It's a lot of money, but you have to take risks with pitching. If you could get Greinke for 6/$120 and Marcum for 5/$55 you'd have a good 1-2 punch for years to come...something I can't even remember this team ever having. Salaries will eventually come off the books from guys like Hart and Wolf and new prospects will replace the more expensive players. The key to all of this is rebuilding the farm system so you can have cheap replacements.
  5. Just saw this but I think it's a great deal for both sides. Now go extend Marcum and Greinke and I will be a happy, happy man.
  6. I did find those scouting reports on the players and spent a good half hour reading them on numerous players. Thanks for all the hard work!
  7. I don't know much about Derek Fischer but I'd be thrilled with Daniel Norris. Colby would Jason Esposito be too much of a reach at 15? I'd love a college bat with that second pick.
  8. We would use two picks from Prince, two picks from Rickie and our own draft pick to reload our farm system. Ugh...every time I think of that I think of this: Frederickson, Lintz, Dykstra, Adams: I know Odorizzi could be included too and we could have had higher selections if the Yankees didn't use their money to screw us, but the draft is such a crap shoot it seems. I know that we are going to lose Fielder for picks but my top choices for Weeks are 1) Extension 2) trade at the deadline if we aren't in it 3) lose for picks. Quite honestly if we are not going to make the playoffs I'd rather we be 15 games out at the deadline because I think we'd do better in restocking our system by trading Fielder and Weeks than taking picks for them. Too bad this year's draft class wasn't next years because I hear this year's may be the deepest in recent memory.
  9. I still think Portland would be the best place. MLB would get an additional team to the West Coast and form a nice little rivalry with Seattle. I think if Selig wasn't so set on moving the Expos to DC, Portland would have been the next choice. They seemed to me like they really wanted the team and they don't have a lot of other professional teams to compete with. And despite being what would probably be considered a medium market, they draw very well for the Trailblazers. The Trailblazers are currently second in the entire league in attendance, ahead of the Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, and Heat. If not Portland, my next three choices would be San Antonio, Salt Lake City, and Oklahoma City. MLB is too east-coast orientated if you ask me.
  10. I would love to see Tampa Bay move to Portland Ore. It would give another team on the West Coast and I think Portland would really support the team, much more than Tampa does. A lot of realignment would be required, but I'd like to see it. I just can't get over one 4-team division and one 6-team division. I know it works for the schedule, but still.
  11. Yeah seems kind of odd they'd do the Hot Dog again. Does this mean they are going to restart the whole sausage series now? I am really surprised the didn't do Gallardo. Whats a guy gotta do to get a bobblehead?
  12. I think you have to take at least one position player, ideally a shortstop. But if the best players available are both pitchers, I have no problem taking two pitchers.
  13. Yes I think a 12-9 record, a 4.70 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, a .254 BAA, and 150 K's in 176 IP over 32 starts since Sept 1 of 09 are more than enough to be solidly entrenched as a number 5 starter. It's not that I don't think he's good enough to be a #5, but he wasn't exactly consistent last season. As of right now, there are no other real options for that spot. What happens if he struggles in spring training? At this point, unless someone like Rivas really stands out, you have to hand him the job no matter how good or bad he pitches. You mention in the past he may have had to be the #3, but in the past we've always had competition for the rotation. Luckily this year four of the five starters have very good track records and are set but I'd still like to see some competition for that last spot. Those are good enough numbers to compete for the #5, but not good enough for me to hand him the job (if it were my call). That's exactly how I am thinking.
  14. Sheets is out for at least the 2011 season and probably done for his career after his injury last year. Ah, well Narveson would probably be able to hold him off then for that #5 spot. I'd still like Millwood though.
  15. I wouldn't mind seeing Millwood or Sheets on a minor league deal just to get some competition for Narveson. No offense to Chris but has he really done enough to just be given the #5 spot before spring training?
  16. I didn't want to start a brand new thread on this, and I apologize if this has been brought up already. But I have a quick question about Call of Duty Black Ops. On the online zombie mode, what do you have to do to "beat" the first board? All I've seen is wave after wave of zombie but I don't know what you need to accomplish to beat the board. When I try to find the answer on the internet, all I can find is tips on game play. Can someone help me out?
  17. Rogers is healthy for now, but he has a lot to prove He's been healthy for two years. Obviously his innings have been limited, but I'm not as concerned about him as I used to be.
  18. I do not know what they are offering Rickie. However, we do know they are offering him $4.85MM for 2011 which is low for a player of his caliber. Yes it may be arbitration gamesmanship. But as an organization, with the arbitration number offered, the Brewers front office is telling me they believe Corey Hart is worth almost double 3yrs/$26.5MM I don't view it like that at all. The Brewers are doing exactly what they should be doing. Why overpay for him if you don't have to? I would love for him to re-sign too, but I think re-signing Greinke and Marcum is much more important. Offense can be replaced much easier than pitching. If we can keep Greinke, Marcum, and Gallardo together for 5 more years this team will be successful for 5 more years. We are going to take a hit offensively when Fielder leaves, there's no doubt. And we'd take another hit if Weeks leaves. BUT chances are better than not that the defense would improve dramatically if those two leave. Also, there's always free agency. Derek Lee will be available next offseason. I'm sure you can upgrade shortstop and center field. Gamel will fit in somewhere. SF showed that you can win with good pitching and average hitting. We may need to copy that model for awhile, but if you re-sign Marcum and Greinke and if Rogers, Rivas, Heckathorn, Peralta, and/or Scarpetta live up to their potential we could have a very good pitching staff for a number of years. No sense in budgeting yourself out of other players by paying Weeks substantially more than he is worth.
  19. Nobody is going to believe me here and I don't blame you, but this was my idea! I wrote an email to Daron Sutton and Bill Schroeder back in late 2002 or early 2003 and suggested this, and they even read my idea and my name on the air. I remember it distinctly because I was in college and my friend, who is a Cubs fan, was watching it. I heard them read the email and my name and I kind of did a double-take because I just had the game on in the background. Anyway, my friend called me and was like "Dude, they just read your email and said your name on tv!" Bill Schroeder said something to the extent of "This is a great idea. You could see Prince Fielder hitting off of Manny Parra". This was back when the Brewers had one of the top systems in baseball and guys like Fielder, Weeks, Hart, Parra, and Gallardo were still in the minors. This is a great idea, but I wish they'd make it a little cheaper. $10 I guess I can understand, but $8 to park? Seems a little high. I have to work that night so I can't go but I think it's a great idea and I hope it's not a one time thing.
  20. I'm not sure what you mean by "full size" but I have three different Brewers Pennants that are 12''x30''. One of the designs has an old logo, one has a new logo. The third is a 2008 Wild Card Pennant featuring the old logo. If you're interested, I can probably email you a picture of each one. Let me know.
  21. Can you provide a link of something similar to what you are looking for? I have some pennants but I can't imagine the ones I have would cost $30 so I am probably confusing what you want.
  22. I'd love to somehow get a reliever we can sign to a one year deal that ends up with him being a Type A free agent. And I actually wouldn't mind Podsednik on a one year deal either. Maybe he and Gomez can platoon.
  23. For the amount of money it would take to re-sign Fielder I don't even want him. I'd much rather put that money towards extending Zach Greinke or Shawn Marcum.
  24. Does Schafer project as a lead-off hitter? I'd give anything to get Weeks out of that spot.
  25. Hey sorry for the delay. Here is a list of DVDs. I'm just going to ask $3 for all of these. If anyone is interested, we can work something out with shipping costs. I don't want to sell someone one DVD for $3 and have to pay $2.50 to ship it. So the more you buy the more shipping cost I'd be willing to cover if that's how we have to do it.
