  1. After the signing of Hart, I'd be a little more ok with trading Weeks. He's got to have some decent value. Good power numbers, good on base numbers. High strikeout rates, but people don't seem to mind that much. He'd be a good #2 hitter I think for a team that actually has a lead off hitter. Eric Farris seems to be doing well in Nashville and could be given a shot next year, maybe as a platoon player with Craig Counsell. Brett Lawrie would obviously then take over eventually. Moving Fielder for pitching is a must now, and moving Weeks for more pitching could help as well. At this point I am willing to punt on 2011 IF it's because we traded Fielder and Weeks for good pitching prospects at A+ or AA.
  2. Well I for one hope Hart goes back to first. It would be a huge improvement at first and probably a wash in right field.
  3. The signing of Corey Hart upsets me a little bit. It's not that I don't think he's a good player. But we can't keep making little tweaks to this roster and expect it to be 2008 all over again. There is no home-grown pitching available for next year. That means if there is going to be any improvement, it has to come from free agency or trades. The free agency crop is underwhelming. If they got Cliff Lee, great, but the Yankees want Lee so the Yankees will get Lee. Corey Hart, if he continues to have a solid season, would have been able to bring back at least one good pitching prospect I think. We have two prospects in Cain and Gamel that could have replaced him. I just don't understand the move. Now this means Prince Fielder has to be traded, otherwise the 2011 Brewers will be no different than the 2010 Brewers. Might as well re-sign Dave Bush while we're at it.
  4. Yeah hopefully now they take the same steps with Lawrie. Let him play first base and right field for a little while. That way you'll be able to look at Lawrie and Gamel and see which one is a better fit for each position. It's nice that they are finally somewhat acknowledging that they will need to replace Fielder soon.
  5. Haha, Melvin isn't going anywhere as long as Attanasio is our owner. He loves him. Yeah why would Melvin get fired? We had a really good first half of 2008! At this point in the off season, I'd offer Tampa a trade of Hart, Fielder, and Coffey for whoever it is is responsible for drafting all of their pitching. I'll throw in Gord Ash too.
  6. Teams know that the Brewers won't trade their young, cheap, and good bullpen arms. Sometimes experience counts almost as much as results. Hoffman has been pitching pretty well lately, and he obviously knows how to close a game. I'm actually surprised the Brewers haven't given him a chance to close a game here or there lately to raise his value a bit. But I can definitely see why another team would ask about him. The Brewers wouldn't get much, but something is better than nothing.
  7. I would not sign any big money free agents for 2011. It looks like there are a lot of good starting pitchers on the market the year after next, and if we save some money we could sign a good one to complement the young pitchers we hopefully have coming into the rotation in 2012. FA's include Buehrle, Carpenter, Wainwright, Wang, Edwin Jackson, Jeff Francis, and a few other guys that could opt out of contracts. I don't want to spend a ton just to play .500 ball next season. Hopefully the rotation is filled by trades of Fielder and Hart and those two are replaced by in house candidates like Gamel and Cain or cheaper free agents like maybe Derek Lee.
  8. Hoffman has been pitching pretty well of late, and with his salary there is no way you can offer him arby for next year. We have a closer now. I'd take anything I could get for Hoffman. I'd be willing to guess you could get a decent A ball pitcher for him.
  9. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/99503739.html Tom Hardricourt chimes in here. My favorite line....."I don't see how the Rangers could come up with the package it would take to get Fielder and also pick up the remainder of his $10.5 million salary while the team is in bankruptcy." As everyone here is listing the pitchers Texas has that we'd want, the Brewers beat writer says he can't see how the Rangers could come up with a package the Brewers would accept. Interesting.
  10. For the love of Pete please let something happen. I can't imagine we will get anyone better than Holland or Perez + in the offseason, and with Texas making a real push this year and the Brewers' willingness to pay Fielder's remaining salary for the season they could really get something good!
  11. If I deal Fielder I want all pitching in return. We have plenty of guys that can be moved to first base. Heck if he gets traded why not just move Corey Hart back there? Or Jim Edmonds could play there the rest of the year. Casey McGehee. Craig Counsell. If we are trading Fielder, we are giving up on the season anyway, so it doesn't really matter. I don't want a guy like Chris Davis back just so we have someone to put at first base. It's something that can be addressed in the offseason (Derek Lee? Gamel? McGehee? Hart?) I'd be ok with a deal to Texas if it included Perez or Holland plus two more pitchers.
  12. JB why would you put Rivas in the bullpen? I'd let him start in Nashville and depending on his rate of success, he'd be the first option for an ineffective or injured starter. It seems useless to have him pitch out of the bullpen.
  13. I wonder what Weeks' trade value is right now. Eric Farris may be a decent one year stop gap next season if Weeks gets traded. I don't want them to trade Fielder, Hart, AND Weeks though. I actually hope they resign him. If this is what he can do when he's healthy, i'll take it. I think his injuries have been overblown a bit because wrist injuries aren't really that common. He's a legitimate 25-30 home run threat, as he's shown this year. But if someone is willing to give us a young #2 ceiling pitcher for Weeks, you take that deal in a second.
  14. Does the fact that Dylan Covey's dad is asking for so much suggest that he doesn't really care if his son signs? I would think that seeing what others drafted around him got would have some sort of impact on the asking price. Also, does anyone know what kind of history there is for first round HS picks that end up going to college.....as far as how many of them actually improving their draft status? Refusing first round money to go off to college seems awfully risky if money is the main reason. I'd like to get this signing done, but Covey's dad seems to be a little unreasonable. The Brewers could always take the replacement pick in next year's draft, though those picks seem to be about signability than ability.
  15. Let's hope round two goes a little better than round one went.
  16. It's clear Melvin is trying to acquire pitching - as evidenced by him asking for Bumgarner or Sanchez from the Giants. If teams aren't going to give up good young pitching (Sanchez doesn't even fall into the young category) then there is no point in trading Hart right now. If he continues to rake the rest of the season, his trade value will be higher in the offseason. True, but if he reverts to how he played for the past year and a half they'll get absolutely nothing for him. I never meant trade him just for the sake of trading, I guess I meant more of don't hold on to him because you're asking way too much for him. I think if Melvin really believes he'll get Bumgarner for Hart he needs to wake up from his fantasy. I'd settle for a number 3 pitcher because a number 3 pitcher is still better than most of what we have.
  17. I'm going to be very upset with Melvin if Corey Hart isn't traded for pitching. There are multiple teams interested, and if he can't work something out, to me, it just continues to show how incapable he is of acquiring pitching. If any one lesson can be learned from the past two seasons, it's that all offense and no pitching is not going to make you a contender. Yes, you can't just give Corey Hart away, but his value is about as high as it's ever going to be, so he should be able to get a decent prospect or two. He also has never had the kind of pieces to trade for pitching as he does now. You need to take a chance on young pitching. Teams like Atlanta and TB have plenty to choose from, but you can't expect too much, which I have a feeling is what he is doing. This team is not going to go anywhere next season without pitching, and it's become obvious that free agency is not the way to go (for various reasons). I don't really care what he does....just do something. What we're doing now is not working.
  18. Unfortunately there's nobody to blame for this. I've never seen a storm line like this one. Just a constant line, hundreds of miles long. I heard Shorewood has already got 7 inches of rain.
  19. Nice to see Peralta get moved up. Hopefully it's followed by a move by Odorizzi from Wisconsin to BC.
  20. This next week's episode is one that I've been looking forward to for a while. Navy SEALS vs. Israeli Commandos. The weaponry is going to be amazing.
  21. I just hope Melvin doesn't blow this opportunity. This is the best chance he's had to trade for young talented pitching since he's been here. It disappoints me to see rumors about Gordon Beckham. Not that Beckham isn't a good player, but we don't need someone who can play 2nd or 3rd base. I hear Tampa is interested in Jason Werth. Maybe the Brewers could provide Tampa with a better offer than Philly can. Hart is putting up better numbers and is under control for a year longer than Werth. I'd target some of their prospects like Colome, McGee, Barnese, and Torres. Maybe Hart and a reliever for two of those players?
  22. Personally I'd rather have Bumgarner and Rivas than Dan Haren. If we traded Fielder and Hart for Bumgarner and Sanchez, this team would be much better off than they are now.
  23. The Brewers need to understand that they will never compete until they have pitching. So get yourself an ace to pitch with Gallardo, or a couple of young pitchers with high upside. They are actually fairly close (a year or two) away from finally bringing in some of their own pitchers. I think Amaury Rivas will be solid and I still have high hopes for Peralta and Scarpetta. Add in the possibilities of Rogers and Butler as well. The last thing we need to do is trade or sign an average pitcher who had a good one year run. I agree with Invader in that they shouldn't be playing to stay in contention. Either go for it all, or get pieces that can help you win in the future.
  24. 2011 should not be sacrificed in hopes that somehow this makes them better in 2014. Yeah but you can't sacrifice 2012, 2013, and 2014 hoping to have one last run in 2011 with more or less the same team that hasn't done anything without CC Sabathia. You may have the best lineup in 2011 but if you don't resign Fielder, Hart and/or Weeks, the lineup will take a huge step backwards after 2011 and you still won't have pitching.
  25. Sewage dumping is heavily over blown by the MKE media. Maybe so, but a billion gallons of raw sewage is a billion gallons. I don't know if it over blown. All they do is report how many gallons are dumped every time it rains. Now this question is a bit off topic a bit, and it may show how ignorant I am regarding the whole system. But you have the deep tunnel, which holds something like 438 million gallons. Instead of adding more storage capacity in the deep tunnel, why can't they double the treatment facilities so that they can clean it faster?
