I think its absurd, after what Sabathia did, is rated lower than Texteira. That means if the Yankees sign them both, our compensation is a 2nd round pick, for possibly the best pitcher in baseball....thats crap. Do you think we'll offer arby to Shouse? I think we should, its a win-win. If he accepts you get a pretty decent LOOGY who'll still be fairly cheap. If not you get that extra pick and still have Stetter to replace him. I think we let Gagne walk, and pick up the option on Torres, so we still walk away with 5, 7 total, extra picks before round 3, assuming we dont sign a Type A. That'll be a nice little haul.

Obviously Peavy is better than Parra. But when you lost your two best pitchers, is trading your second best remaining pitcher really the way to go? Either way, a back end of Bush, Suppan and McClung/Villanueva isnt going to cut it, it doesnt matter if you have CC AND Peavy. I think the main idea behind trading Hardy as opposed to Escobar is the money. Hardy is due for a huge raise soon. Personally if there is anyway to keep them both i'd do it, and move Hardy to 3rd. I just heard the rumor was that SD wanted a shortstop.
-
I read a rumor that Atlanta may be backing off of SD's demands. I still think the Brewers should go after him, but if the trade involves Parra then forget it. Trading Parra would just create the same hole you are filling by acquiring Peavy. I'd say a package of Jeffress, Hardy, Lucroy/Salome and a guy like Periard or Braddock. Is that enough?

When I was in high school our team played on the same field that UWM plays on. I think the biggest problem with it is location. Not that the actual location is all that terrible, but its nowhere near the campus. I'd consider the field itself to be D1 worthy, but, and i havent been there in a few years so i dont know what kind of improvements they've made, the actual stadium is a high school level stadium. There are no rest rooms or concession stand around there, and the scoreboard is way out in the outfield and its tiny. Being on the crowded east side of milwaukee there arent a whole lot of locations to build a stadium, but if anyone is from the area, I think Estabrook Park would be ideal. There is plenty of open land and they could make an actual college level stadium, if they want.

Yeah, Jack Ruby. How long was he in prison before he died?
-
To me the most interesting aspect of that is is subsequent murder of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Reuben. What ever happened to Jack Rueben? Has he ever tried to claim conspiracy?
-
Haha....i got the facts out of Uncle John's Legendary Lost Bathroon Reader. Don't worry, I'm sure they got their facts from a dependable source, they actually have a lot of very good facts and stories too, and this edition has some evidence about Marilyn Monroe and Elvis.

Making any assumptions on what an alien race would want to do with us is like guessing the correct number between 1 and 10,000. You just dont know. Anyway, I jsut want to quick go over some facts about the Jim Morrison death, not that i care at all about it, just to kind of show a perspective on a conspiracy theory. He died in 1971 while on vacation in Paris with his g/f, who found him dead in the bathtub. He was buried 2 days later in front of 5 friends. The cause of death was listed as a heart attack. Nobody but his g/f ever saw his dead body. Morrisons friends and family were never given an oppurtunity to view it. There was no police report, no autopsy, and the g/f said she didnt remember the name of the Dr. who signed the death certificate. His g/f, when filing for a death certificate at the US Embassy claimed he had no living relatives, even though he did. The death was kept secret by his friends for 6 days. The Doors road manager told the media he died of natural causes and said nothing more. At the time of his death, Morrison's life was a mess. He was in the process of appealing some charges in Miami and faced jail if the appeal failed. Over 20 paternity suits were pending against him, and he had been busted by the FBI for being drunk and disorderly on an airplane and was facing charges for that. He had been saying for years he was sick of his life as a rock star and wanted out. He claimed he wanted to start over anonymously so he could write in peace. Someone started a rumor that he had visited a Paris hangout earlier in the evening and obtained heroin, which, mixed with alcohol, is what supposedly caused the heart attack. Yet for all of the drugs he was known to ingest, none of his friends ever mentioned heroin, and Morrison was even afraid of needles. Morrison repeated talked about Paris and apparently thought that it was a place where he could be himself and not have people hound him. Finally, the lack of police report and autopsy means a doctor could very easily have been bribed to sign the death certificate. Why didnt he come out with it eventually? Maybe he didnt know whos certifcate he was signing. Weak? Maybe....again, not saying i believe it, just saying that those are the facts that I have seen that make up this theory.

CNNSI is reporting that the Braves are leading the chase right now. My question is why? I dont know anything about their system, but i have a hard time believing we cant match or exceed what they offer. Starting pitching is a blaring need, and you have a chance to get one of the best pitchers in the game for 4 years at a fairly reasonable price. It would turn your rotation from a liability to a strength, and allow your to focus your offseason on fixing the offseason and bullpen. Im willing to part with both Jeffress and Escobar to get Peavy. And we'd still have a solid core of position prospects to build around PLUS possibly 6 picks in the first 2 rounds next year.

I wrote a paper in high school linking FDR to Peal Harbor. I was in no way saying he was responsible for it, but there is a lot of compelling evidence that he knew it was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it besides moving some ships to lessen the damage. Would you mind, if you can remember, sharing some of those links? I'm curious now. As far as UFO's go....the problem with the arguments I've seen are that a) i would go as far as to say the majority of the people who report them are very credible sources, especially military pilots, cops, and a few months ago an astronaut. b) a lot of the reports, especially by the military, say these objects do things that are far, far beyond our technological capacity...things like going from basically hovering to 10,000 mph in a matter of seconds. Also too, I brought up before from the original link, why would the British military order a US pilot to shoot down their own experimental aircraft? When I hear the argument that surely someone would talk, i think of the the witness protection program where people basically disappear to eveyone. It is possible, as that program has shown, to do something and not tell why, or even acknowledge that you do it. People who do these things, if they do, for a very specific reason, and only the people who absolutely have to know are included. I would assume the people that have to know have more than enough reasons to keep their mouthes shut, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of doing what you did. Beside, let's say you come forward and say....yeah i helped coverup the JFK assassination. Is anyone really going to believe you? After Malcolm X was killed, someone from, I believe his group, claimed he was going to have a press conference showing evidence that the true killers were from Washington not from the rival group. Within a day or two the guy who said that was dead, with heart failure or something being ruled the official cause of death. Quite the coincidence.
-
There had to have been hundreds of witnesses to the plane hitting the Pentagon. I'm sure if it was a missile it would have been fairly obvious because missiles are nowhere near the size of an airplane. Beside, if you don't believe it was the airplane they said it was, how do you explain all the people who were on the plane and are now dead? The history channel had a documentary which pretty easily debunked any conspiracy theories about 9-11, but if you want to believe it, you'll believe it.
-
Thats true, but i think the accuracy goes down for events that just kinda happen and within an instant are done. People dont have time to process what happened. I dont know if the eye witness testimony was in response to my comments about UFO's but a most of the eye witness accounts state that the object was just kind of hovering, which is why the descriptions are more or less the same. Some people even have enough time to pull out some sort of camera or recording device. In most of the cases, the people were standing there, looking at it, watching it, and processing what they were seeing. Most of them dont involve a 10 mile wide ship zoom by and within 2 seconds is out of sight. Especially with these military stories. In the original link, the pilot said he actually had a lock on the object before it took off. So although eyewitness testimony is notoriously innacurate, i dont think in all of these cases that that is necessarily the case.

One other one i forgot about, its not really a conspiracy theory, but its the Bible code. I'd love to know if there's any substance to that theory. It seems to point out plenty of events that have happened, but so far apparently only predicted one, the assasination of Rabin (I have no idea how to spell his first name). I believe they predicted a war between Israel and some Muslim countries, but i believe they said that was supposed to happen in 2007. Anyway, I'm very intrigued as to whether we will ever be able to actually predict events based on that code.

If we can get Giles and Peavy for Escobar, Hart, and Jeffress, i'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm still not convinced Jeffress is going to meet his potential (think Nick Neugebauer). I don't know, maybe its just our complete lack of developing HS pitchers with bigtime fastballs (JM Gold, Neugebauer, Jones, Rogers, etc), but I'd rather take 4 years of Peavy, even at his price, then to hope Jeffress developes. The 6 more high picks again this year will go a long way in restocking our system, but even giving up Escobar and Jeffress leaves quite a few prospects (Gamel, Green, Cain, Salome, Lucroy, Gillespie, Lawrie). I'd do it in a heartbeat, and throw in a mid level prospect if necessary. Giles would be a very underated part to the deal.

Also, I'd like to think that aliens don't spend their vacation time coming to Earth. I'm hoping for a much cooler, hipper, space spot to go visit. Thats funny. Think about it though...we are at the very beginning our using our technology to explore other worlds. Just by shear size of the universe, i think its next to impossible that some form of life doesnt exist somewhere, and even if the type of "life" isnt the same as ours, exploring new lands is natural. I guess the biggest reasons i believe that aliens have come to this planet are these: Just by the volume of unexplained aircraft spotted throughout history. Witnesses have been interviewed separately and described more or less the same thing, witnesses that include military, pilots, law enforcement, astronauts, and other reputable sources. I'm sure a great many of them can be explained, but several eyewitnesses described the aircraft doing things that are far beyond our current technological capacity (that we know of at least). Also, the governments explantion the some of the events are sometimes laughable. The recent declassification of all those British documents show quite a few events that were never explained. Why would an American pilot be ordered to shoot down something over England if the English government new what it was? And if it was some sort of military aircraft from another country, how on Earth (no pun intended) could something that large get into British Airspace without them knowing? I'm not saying I believe that there was a UFO crash landing at Area 51, but i think something did happen, which is why i'd like to know. I think a close second would be they JFK assasination. The events were so messed up that you'd think that all them being random coincidences is impossible.
-
i think it would take a lot more than Hart Escobar and Jeffress to get those two.
-
Can you provide a link to that letter regarding the 3 world wars? It seems like interesting reading.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,440945,00.html There is this article saying a US pilot was ordered to shoot down a UFO the szie of an aircraft carrier in England about 50 years old, but it took off at about 10,000 mph before the pilot got a chance to shoot. Whether this is true is anyones guess, but it brought up a question i've been meaning to ask around here. There are many, many conspiracy theories about who actually killed someone, what actually happened, etc. My two questions are these. If you could know that god's honest truth about one event in history, what event would you pick? And also, are there any conspiracy theories you actually believe in? I realize this sounds dumb, but there is actually some decent evidence suggesting that Elvis wasnt the body in the casket at his supposed funeral. Theres some decent evidence that Jim Morrison didnt die when he was said to have died, and that the killing of Malcolm X wasnt exactly a random event. I'm not saying that I believe any of those, but there is evidence to support them. Other theories like the JFK assasination, Marylin Monroe, the death of Curt Cobain, even that Bush was behind 9-11 are out there. If I could know the truth about one event, I'd want to know what happened at Area 57. I think that there have been so many reports about UFO's and from so many different, reputable sources including astronauts, military and law enforcement that they cant all be wrong, can they?
-
I just dont see how you can improve the team that much by including Parra in the deal. Bush is not a #3 pitcher. He is way too inconsistent and rely on Bush, Suppan, and McClung would be a disaster. If you trade Jeffress you have no minor league depth but at least you'll have 3 quality starters for at least 3 more years, plus Suppan to hold down a spot for another 2 years. Hopefully in those 3 years some prospects develope and you can replace Peavy Gallardo and Parra if need be but no way do I include Parra or Gallardo in a deal for Peavy.
-
The more I think about it, the more i like the idea of getting Peavy. Think Hardy, Jeffress, Braddock, and Gillespie would be enough? If not Gillespie maybe Salome or Lucroy? Add that to signing Sheets to a 4 year, $60 million deal. Let Cameron walk and either sign someone cheaper like Edmonds and have him platoon with Kapler, or let Kapler platoon with Gwynn (I know not ideal but to get Sheets?) A rotation of Peavy, Gallardo, Sheets, Parra and probably Suppan, unless they can unload him (I'd pay 1/2 to 3/4 of his salary for someone to take him), in which case you have Bush. The bullpen of Torres, Stetter, Riske, Villanueva, McClung and maybe Dillard. Lineup including Fielder, Weeks, Escobar, Hall, Braun, Kapler/Gwynn/Edmonds, Hart, Kendall. Still have Lawrie, two of Lucroy/Salome/Gillespie, Cain, Gamel, Green, and Caleb Gindl for prospects, and still have few if any pitching prospects, though some good young ones in Lintz and Odorizzi. Plus you'll get 2 extra picks for Sabathia to help stock up. You'd have to spend another $10 million or so to finish up the bench and maybe add a solid bullpen arm, but i think its doable. So you add about $50 million with Sheets, Peavy, Edmonds, a bullpen arm, and two bench players, plus arby raises and subtract the $13 mil Sheets was making this year, $10 million from Gagne, $3 from Turnbow $3 from Counsell, $5 million that Cameron was making. So what, payroll goes up $14 million? Can we do it? Peavy Gallardo Sheets Parra Bush Suppan McClung Riske Villanueva Torress Stetter FA Weeks Esobar Braun Fielder Hart Edmonds Hall Kendall Branyon Gwynn Kapler FA FA Hopefully subtract Suppan and add someone else

They only problem with trading Hardy is that if Escobar isnt quite ready then we don't have anyone to replace him. Jonathon Sanchez would be a good start, but I'd like another pitching prospect in return (Madison Bumgardner?)
-
He hasnt been injured for years. He wore down last season because of the number of innings pitched, but was healthy otherwise. I dont get the idea of trading Parra because then you don't really solve your pitching problem. Peavy can win 20 games next year but if our 3-4-5 consists of Bush, Suppan, and McClung, we arent making the palyoffs. Give them Jeffress if need be, we arent developing any pitching anyway but in 3 years we'll still have Peavy, Gallardo, and Parra, and maybe we can develop someone from this past draft like Odorizzi, Lintz or Frederickson or next draft when we will also possibly have 5 or 6 high draft choices. Parra, Jeffress, Cain, and Lucroy are way too much to give up. I'm not disagreeing with your assessment that that's what'll it take, but we cant afford to do that, IMO. Not only do you we give up our current #2, we also give up the only decent pitching prospects at the upper levels. An injury to Gallardo or Peavy would absolutely decimate us. I'd give up Jeffess, Gillespie, Brewer and Zach Braddock, and I know that wouldnt be enough. Maybe Dave Bush if they want him.

Best Milwaukee Hot Spots for this Saturday Night
paul253 replied to lukevan's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Anyways, I would hit up Brady or Water. Can't go wrong with either of those. You can definately go wrong with Water St. I dont know how old you are, but Water St is full of college aged kids looking to get drunk and fight. There was also a double stabbing down there a few weeks ago, and it is damn near impossible to find a bar that isnt packed. If you like that stuff, by all means, head down there. Brady St is alright, there are also some nice bars off of North Ave (Paddys) If you're not into the bars and feel like spending a ton of money, you can do that bowling thing at Bayshore. -
He doesnt have to get any better. I'd be thrilled with the year he had this year. It would be a vast improvement over Weeks and would do a lot of good for our lineup. Just because Counsell dropped off, doesnt mean Theriot will. His numbers last year were very good all around.
