  1. Geez, if people are already willing to put him in the rotation, it might be a very long year. I'd rather see Capuano in the rotation. At least he has had some success Maybe he can be the new centerpiece in a Peavy deal.
  2. I'm sorry but I don't buy any of those. Its not that I think you are wrong, but i think if Mark and Doug use those as excuses I will throw up.1. If Mark A. is willing to wait half a season to acquire one of the best pitchers in all of baseball so that he only has to pay half his salary, he should sell the team now. 2. Your position would be much improved if you have him all year long, plus you get him for 2 more years, so its not like you are losing all your best prospects on a once in a lifetime shot like you did with Sabathia. 3. The Brewers passed 3 million last year, and are already on a record pace this season. The fans are doing their part and we shouldn't have to play wait and see with this season. To me this is no debate. If you can get him, get him and get him now. Escobar is expendable if they extend Hardy for 3-4 years. Catchers are our deepest position if you include Lawrie, so one of them is expendable. I think the only two prospects I wouldnt include our Gamel, because I think he is needed to replace Fielder, and Jeffress because he has top of the rotation potential and because it'd be nice to develope another pitcher.
  3. I havent been following this thread at all, but Bruce, the guy you are talking about is named Liam McMorrow. I think he is with the team this year but ineligible to play. I am really getting excited about the NCAA tournament, excited enough to consider taking one of my two weeks of vacation this year during the first week of the tournament. This is so much better that how college football ends. Before the bowl season, you look at teams like Oklahoma, Florida, USC, Texas, Penn St, Utah., Alabama, and say well....i can see any one of them beating any other team, but you have to settle for the BCS crap and wondering afterwords who is really best between USC, Florida, Utah, and Texas. With basketball, you have all these amazing teams.....UCONN, Louisville, Pitt, Duke, UNC, Oklahoma, Marquette, and you can see any one of those teams winning it all. But with basketball, those teams all have to beat each other, and you end up with some awesome matchups. Last years Final Four was great, and I am really excited about this years as well. Wouldn't it be awesome if somehow 4 Big East teams made the Final Four?
  4. Unless Hendry trades with the Marlins or Pirates during their cost-cutting periods, he makes horrible trades - he's got no ability to buy low-sell high when it comes to player evaluation unless a team's desparate to unload salary. Was he the one who made the deals for Aramis Ramirez and Derek Lee? Those were two of the better deals in recent years, giving up guys like Hee Sop Choi and Bobby Hill for the cornerstones of your organization. All these top prospects from the Cubs, Choi, Hill, Rich Hill, Patterson, Pie, turn into big duds, so I think anything they can get for them isnt necessarily bad.
  5. It does not mention anything about any type of source from either organization stating that the two teams have even spoken with each other regarding Peavy I never said it did, just that CNNSI mentioned it. Like I said, I don't see how money can seriously be an issue at this point. Are you telling me Attanasio cant afford to add $10-$15 million for one year ( I forget how much Peavy makes this year) to obtain one of the best pitchers in all of baseball? You can fix the payroll when Hoffman, Cameron, and Kendall come off the books next season, plus Suppan, Hall and Fielder the year after that. This whole wait and see thing is dumb because if you can get him for an entire year, you'll most likely do significantly better (think Peavy vs McClung or Suppan). The difference in wins with him vs without him could be 6-7 wins, which as last year showed you is quite a few.
  6. Cnnsi.com now has a rumor about Milwaukee and Peavy. Personally, I'm getting a little tired of hearing about it. They have the players to get Peavy, and they should do it. If he doenst want to come, he doesnt want to come, but find out. If payroll is the only issue with Mark A. against this, then I honestly will lose a lot of respect for him. Within 2 years, you'll have Suppan, Hall, Fielder, Cameron, Kendall, and Hoffman off the books. Braun is signed for a very reasonable contract for like 7 more years. Hardy and Hart will command some, but not a ton. Same with Weeks. You'll have to extend Parra and Gallardo eventually, but that'll be fine. Basically what I'm getting at is that we have plenty of payroll flexibilty and plenty of prospects to make it happen. You can start with Escobar, throw in a catcher (Salome or Lucroy) and add two younger prospects like Gindl, Brewer, Braddock, or Anundson and possibly Gywnn for PR purposes, and get it done. Then you extend Hardy and Hart, move Gamel to first base, which they should be doing anyway because he is not a third basemen and you have a better option in Taylor Green anyway. You can trade Fielder after this season to help restock the system., put Gamel at first. You have Weeks at second, Hardy at short. 3rd base you can fill in until Green or Lawrie is ready. Salome or Lucroy at catcher, and an outfield of Braun and Hart, and if Gillespie or Cain isnt ready after this season, you can find a one year replacement after Cameron leaves. A rotation with Peavy, Gallardo, and Parra for the next three years would be stellar. And if Jeffress continues to improve, he could be ready in 2 years and would be a very capable replacement for one of those three should they get hurt.
  7. A lot of it depends on when I watch them and when i make it to the mail box. I live on the westside of Milwaukee. But the thing is, this seems to be a pattern. I had it a while back and what happens is for the first 2 months or so the service is great, but then it gets progressively worse. Who knows, either way, I've had blockbuster before as well and I definitely recommend that one ahead of netflix.
  8. I dont know if anyone is still considering getting this, but I am really getting fed up with Netflix and am going to cancel right before I get billed again. They are obviously buying less copies of all the movies now, as evidenced by the fact that I had to wait over 5 weeks to get Walle, and seemingly every new release I want to see (Wanted, Max Payne, Pineapple Express, Mirrors) somehow go to "very long wait" the second it becomes available. Also, another thing I've noticed is that its taking a lot longer for them to process my movies. For instance, I put 3 movies in the mailbox on Tuesday night, meaning they should have gone out Wednesday, and here I am on Saturday still waiting for them to say the recieved them so they can send me my next few movies. The fact that is taking almost a week just to send out a movie and recieve the next one is getting really old. Finally, one thing I never understood is how I can send out 3 movies at a time, in the same mailbox, and they "recieve" 2 of them on one day and the last one two days later.
  9. Id still be open to trading Cameron for one of those guys. The only problem is who is going to replace him? Tony Gwynn is the only in house option. Or you could sign someone like Abreu and move Hart to center, but that makes the defense even worse.
  10. Im really glad to see Brad Nelson back. He provides a bit of depth in case, knock on wood, something happens to Fielder, but its also been such a long run for him it would be nice to see him in Milwaukee for a significant amount of time.
  11. Before last season I was all for CV as a starter. Then he was a starter, and he wasnt very good, so I figured keep him in the pen. Now I'm in the middle. Our starting pitching depth is just awful, with Seth McClung, who pitched most of the year out of the pen, Dave Bush, who was so bad away from home he had to be "platooned", and Chris Capuano, who missed the entire season, as half of our depth. I certainly wouldn't mind giving CV a chance again, as I dont think theres any way he can be worse than Suppan and if he is successful we have three good young arms in Gallardo, Parra, and Villanueva to build around for a few more years. If he is in the pen, i'd like to see him in a permanent 8th inning role setting up Hoffman. Hoffman will likely be gone next season and it would save a lot of money if we can fill the closer role internally. Neither Pena nor Aguiler would be ready for that. Plus, we've got a good number of arms to at least throw out in the pen, and losing CV wouldn't kill it. The one thing I dont want to see is them using him as the long relief guy....ala Elmer Dessens. Its such a waste of his talent.
  12. If you can get two good young arms (#2 or #3 ceiling) for Hart I'd do it. Abreu for a year then replaced by Gillespie or Cain. What he brings offensively would fit perfectly in Milwaukee. Our defense was awful last year and we still made the playoffs, so I don't see why all of a sudden defense would be a concern.
  13. It seems like every season they have one little side story that just gets really annoying when you wanna see the rest of it. There was Sherry Palmer in season 3. Anne Driscoll's daughter in season 4. Martha Logan last season. This season it seems to be the "first gentlemen". As bad as this sounds, I was hoping the secret service guy would have killed him.
  14. I think it would be a good move. I like Hart a lot, but replacing a right fielder is a lot easier than finding a good young starting pitcher. Within 2 years, we'll hopefully have Gillespie and Cain ready, with Gindl also on the way up. If we do that, I would give Abreu a 2 year deal, maybe in the $18-$20 million range. I know its a lot, but he's still a solid player, left handed, and good OBP. He'd be a great #3 hitter behind Hardy and ahead of Braun and Fielder. A rotation of Gallardo, Parra, Sanchez, Bush, and Suppan isnt quite as bad. Man is the Suppan deal killing us!
  15. Does anyone know if new purchases will get the opportunity to purchase extra Opening Day tickets? I just talked to a ticket rep and he said only full season ticket holders were eligible to get them, not 20 game holders.
  16. I would have rather spent one year and $1 million on Gabe Kapler, but whatever. I'm already starting to give up on this off season with Melvin's moves so far and his comments about starting pitching help likely not coming. Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan and McClung are not gonna cut it.
  17. I never got tickets through a bar before, but I imagine if the Brewers aren't selling group tickets this year that opening day is going to be awful hard to come across. I am splitting a 20 game pack with someone so thats how I got mine. I believe you can still get opening day with some 9 game packs, and for what you might end up paying for opening day you might be better off just paying a little more and getting tix to 8 more games. Opening day has been hard enough lately, but this year playing Chicago is going to make things worse.
  18. The thing that bothers me most about that list is the one pitcher on it, and BA doesn't even think he is going to be a starter. We really need some pitching to develop over the next year or two.
  19. I think I'd go for it only because we'd keep him the next year as well. We've traded too many prospects the past 2 years (Inman, Laporta, Bryson, Brantely) to continue doing so for 3 month players, and as luck would have it we haven't yet received a first round pick for a type A free agent.

  21. I was watching this show on the history channel last night about the 7 likeliest way that humanity will end, and one of them was an asteroid. They said we have ideas on how to deflect an asteroid coming right at us if we see it soon enough, but I dont know if we have the resources yet to do that. Anyway, they said that astronomers or whatever can predict the exact day the asteroid would hit, like ten or twenty years out. Hypothetically, if this were to happen tomorrow, do you think the government has the responsibility to tell us that the world is going to end on January 11, 2019 or whatever? On the one hand, how can you deny people the right to know the most important news in the history of the world that literally affects everyone on the planet? On the other hand, can you imagine the violence and complete collapse of any sort of government control should this news get out? I lean towards the not telling, at least not until a year out. I just think too many bad things like violence, rioting, collapse of financial instituitions, etc, would occur and the last 10 years would be absolute hell.
  22. They are all downtown but they are not the same place. The city cops take offenders to the city jail, and the county cops take the offenders to the county jail ,which is like a block or two away. The people at the city jail end up being taken to the county jail eventually, but not before getting booked at the city jail first. I have a lot of friends who are city cops and they say they don't take blood until the 3rd and subsequent offense or any OWI accident which causes injury. I'm sure they can, like Thom says, but i think their department policy dictates they do it that way.
  23. I am wondering what peoples takes are on the following movies. I was really pumped to see these three, but never made it to the theater. Righteous Kill Body of Lies Pride and Glory. I would have been pumped to see Saw V but Saw IV was so terrible I had no interest in paying money to see it, so I'll just wait to see it when it comes out on video. Did anyone see any of these and have an opinion either way?
  24. Milwaukee County will take blood first time if needed. A friend of mine is a prosecutor and we actually were discussing this at dinner the other night. Im sorry, I meant the city, not the county. The city does blood draws on 3rd and subsequent offenses and any owi that causes injury. Thom....thats some very good information, thanks.
  25. I thought some states automatically suspended your license if you refused all the field tests. I might be wrong on that though I know that, at least in Milwaukee, once you've been arrested you are issued 2 citations and your license is automatically suspended. If you refuse to give the breathalyzer when you're at jail, then instead of suspending your license, they revoke it. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I know getting a license back from being revoked is much harder. I think with suspension once you pay your fines its no longer suspended, but when revoked you have to wait until you're eligible to be reinstated. I also know in Milwaukee that they don't take blood until I believe the 3rd offense. I also had a friend who worked for Waukesha County and he said they took blood all the time, so i think what determines whether they take blood or breath is department policy.
