  1. besides, how would you like to see the yankees (or bo sox) win the world series, then draft first the next year...it would be sickening... I think its just as sickening to see them make the playoffs 9 years in a row and still get an equal shot at signing this new Japanese pitcher. Beside, if the Yankees could trade their first round pick, do you think they would ever actually keep it? I think what would be more likely would be say a prospect for a draft pick trade. For instance, we might not think Dave Krynzel is going to go anywhere within our organization, but dont want to just dump him for nothing. Florida, however, may be willing to give him a look. The way it is now, florida isnt going to give up anyone other than a low level half prospect to get him. However, if you could trade picks, maybe they'd give us a 6th rounder or something. They get someone who still has some tools, we get a relatively high draft pick to try to cut the loss.....win-win
  2. wasnt sure this was the best place for this, but i wanted to ask about the changes, or lack there of, for the amateur draft. Why did they still not allow teams to trade draft picks? And are they ever going to institute a true world wide draft? How are teams like KC or Tampa Bay ever really compete when the best Japanese, Cuban, Domincan, etc, are all free agents? Was this just a battle the owners didnt want to fight right now, or are they really not interested in these issues?
  3. The whole commercial thing in the NFL has bothered me for a while too. Also the game itself bothers me. When i see players running out of bounds instead of taking a hit and getting an extra 3 yards. Or when i see a make a tackle and do a little dance even though their team is down by 21 points.
  4. I like the idea of getting Ensberg, especiallf if koskie cant return. Hall, Fielder, and Ensberg, 3-4-5, could be solid. I think it was this thread that i posted this in, but if not, i'll say it again. I think its time we cash in some of our higher-level pitching prospects for a proven major leaguer, possibly one who is making $7-8 million . Think about it....Dillard, Hammond, Eveland, Jackson, Parrra, Gallardo, Villanueva, Inman, Rogers. Even if they all pan out, which we know they wont, unfortunately, where are we going to put them? I say trade some (preferably not Gallardo or Inman) while they still have value. As for Clark and Mench, if we can get something for either, i think we should. They are making too much money to come off the bench. Again, i wouldnt be terribly disapointed if Jenkins is an everyday player again. His season cannot possibly be as bad as it was this year. So Jenkins and Hart in right/left with Gwynn or Gross, or preferably a free agent with some speed, in center. Who knows, maybe Hall in center if Koskie is back and we get Ensberg, with Cirillo, Hardy, and Weeks in the middle infield. But we definately need an 8th ining guy. Maybe Turnbow can turn it around in Spring Training but if not, that definately a need. So this would be it..... Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Ensberg, Koskie, Cirillo, Rivera, Miller, Jenkins, Hart, Gwynn, Gross, FA outfielder, and 12 pitchers (I guess mine only has 4 or 5 new players)
  5. I am hoping we get a couple of supplamental picks for 200, something it doesnt seem we've had for quite a while.
  6. Brewerfan82 Your roster is very creative but it only contains 3 new players! I think this team needs a bit of a makeover. Jenkins, Clark, Mench, Nix need to go. I think Ohka can walk (offer him arby of course) I;d like to see Koskie back if he can, but more so off the bench with Hall and Hardy starting everyday. We need to trade for an established starter who doesnt have a history of injuries. We need to sign one good, solid, 8th inning guy to set up CoCo. We need someone other than Hall and Fielder to hit homeruns. And we need someone who can steal 30 bases.
  7. I have been all over Jenkins just as much as the next guy, but can he really be as bad as he was this year. I mean, his overall numbers wont look too bad at the end of the year, although i know we all expected more than 16 homereuns. What about moving him back to left, with Hart in right, and a platoon in center. If he has even a decent year we could probably move him at the deadline since he is in the final year of is contract and teams wont shy away from his price tag.
  8. i think relying on the same starting rotation is foolish. Sheets in beginning to be injury prone, Davis's control is MIA and who knows if it's coming back next year, and Ohka and Bush are both too inconsistent to rely heavily on. Cappy is the only one who is really reliable. I say we let Ohka go and trade for either Garcia or Buehrle or Vazquez from the White Sox. That gives us Davis at #4 and Bush at #5, with more time in AAA for Villanueva and Eveland and Jackson. If someone goes down, we have those three options, plus maybe Parra or Gallardo. I think one of the three Sox pitchers i mentioned can be had for pitching prospects like Rogers or Dillard or Hammond, plus additional prospects. I say with use our depth of pitching in the minors (Eveland, Jackson, Inman, Villanueva, Dillard, Hammond, Rogers, Gallardo, etc) to obtain a proven major league starter.
  9. Kind of going in a new direction new, I have read from numerous sources that the White Sox may look to unload two or even three of their starters if they dont make the playoffs, which it looks as though they wont. Garcia, Vazquez, and Buerhle's names were thrown out, but I am sure Garland would be available too. I think we have what it takes to get any one of them, its just a matter of would we give it up. I dont know what the Sox are looking for. What do you think it would take to get one of them?
  10. i havent contributed to the drunk thread yet so here goes....last ngiht i went out to BBC and p[;ayed 3 games of darts......today i wokr up and my elbow was killnig me....does that mean i have "dart elbow"??? getting old sucks!!!!!
  11. i didnt have time to read all of this so im not sure if this was said already. I have issues when people start using all these new slang terms around me and get mad when i have no idea what they are talking about. The other day at work someone asked me "you cakin' with that girl?" I looked at her like.....what the hell does that even mean?
  12. Im sorry if i completely missed it but where is it going to be held?
  13. ok i did...thanks
  14. I'm not sure if i am allowed to do this so if not go ahead and shut this down, but my team really needs players. My season is halfway over. We play thursday nights at Kern and Estabrook parks on the east side, 6:00 and 7:00. if anyone is interested, we have 7 more games. Send me an email here or at paul253@yahoo.com and i'll give you anymore details you need
  15. when you normaly work til 11:00 PM, getting drunk by 8:30 is really, really strange
  16. wow...never knew how random this drunk thread is....i have bronchitis...anyone know how long it takes before it naturally goes away??? im series on this... Just have sex Doesnt work.....and to think, i had all that unnecessary sex
  17. i dont think he can win rookie of the year...too much major league service
  18. wow...never knew how random this drunk thread is....i have bronchitis...anyone know how long it takes before it naturally goes away???
  19. i say maybin...i think gordon will be gone
  20. is there any chance we take Drew? without a second rounder, thats a lot of extra money to use for the first rounder, and there is no way Drew would be willing to go another year unsigned is there? i apologize if this has been brought up already, i dont follow the draft threads very much?
  21. I agree with pohlman...although its hard to argue the best player available strategy, i am a little tired of drafting high school kids and waiting 5 years to see them make the show. i'd almost rather see them take a college kid with a little less talent that might be able to start in A instead of playing rookie then high rookie then A.
  22. we may have a lack of shortstops, but it seems we have an abundance of second basemen. Weeks, obviously, plus Crabbe, Hurricane, Sollman, and Will Lewis. Maybe one or 2 of them could make the switch.
  23. I think the easiest thing to do is make it like all other sports and just forget the stupid compensation picks. I know NFL uses them a little, but they are like 5th and 6th rounders, nothing too high profile. If they did this, the Brewers 2nd pick would be about 40 spots higher (since they have no 2nd round pick). I know MLB drafting is kinda of like a best guess, but 40 additional players is a lot to choose from. Another thing that would help a ton is a minimum amount draftees can sign for, like in the NBA, but until MLB even thinks about considering doing something about their financial structure, that'll never happen. Until then, I guess, we are going to have to hope and pray our 1 pick in the top 60 is a good one
  24. its built to help them who cant afford to resign free agents....but the trade deadline more or less nullifies that. Teams like Milwaukee either lose free agents , offering them arbitration and hoping they dont accept to get a draft pick, or trade them to a team like Boston, who then uses them for 2 months, loses them, and in turn they still get all comp picks. When is the last time teams like Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, or Tampa Bay has ever gotten a compensation pick? It doesnt happen...rather teams like Boston, NY and Oakland get them all. The Yankees actually improved their draft position 12 picks by losing Lieber and gaining Pavano.
  25. Is MLB ever going to fix the current draft system??? It is absolutly absurd. According to Baseball America, the World Champion Boston Red Sox get 5 picks (3 first rounders and 2 supplamental picks) before the Brewers get their second pick. Thats ridiculous. Drafting is such a fine art and many many many first rounders go nowhere. Boston, however, and Oakland in the past, has 5 shots before round 2 even begins to get it right, while we have 1. Also, in every other sport you can trade draft picks, but not baseball. can someone explain that? I say do away with all supplamental picks. Keep the system with type a free agents where the team that loses the player get the others team first rounder, but forget the type b and c and all that. Are the defending AL central Champion Twins so hurt by the loss of Henry Blanco that the only fair thing is to give them an extra pick at the end of round 2??? give me a break.
