  1. I'm really starting to lose patience with Directv. I don't know if this has anything to do with their ATTmerger or what. But on Sunday when it was snowing I lost my signal. Not unexpected but usually it's only out a few minutes. On Sunday is was out 5 hours. I called them and waited on hold for 35 minutes before finally talking to someone. He of course couldn't do anything for me so I asked to be transferred to the customer retention department or whatever it's called. The lady there was rude and said that even though my signal was "only" out five hours she'd give me one time $10 credit.....like she was doing me some kinda favor. Fast forward to Monday. It wasn't snowing and hadn't been all day. When I woke up at 4:45pm I go downstairs and my signal is gone again. It's been out ever since, so about 15 hours now. Call again they run their tests can't fix it so they have to send a tech out to come look at it. And of course he can't come til next Monday. So unless this just happens to start working again on its own I have no cable for a week and I have to call back to them how long it was out so they can credit my account. Maybe they'll do me another favor and give me an additional $3 like they did the other day. I'm gonna start my free directv now trial later today or tomorrow or look at Sling TV and if I like it I'm done with regular directv. I just can't justify them anymore.
  2. Never understood why players still do this stuff. Regardless of how you feel about weed every minor leaguer knows it's against the rules and they will be suspended if they use it. Bickford is a legitimate prospect who could make millions of dollars throughout his career. To risk that so you can smoke weed is just so stupid to me. Not as stupid as what Larry Sanders did but stupid none the less.
  3. Yeah but not all franchises in the smaller markets NEED help staying competitive. A team that has winning records year after year or makes the playoffs doesn't necessarily need help just because they are in a small market. If it team goes back to sucking then you give them their pick back. But when we say the picks are to help smaller market teams stay competitive and then hand out the picks to the teams that are already more than competitive it seems to defeat the purpose of the pick. But why not. The MLB draft is already screwed up enough as is. Why not give out extra picks just because.
  4. He's put up alright power numbers and defense but that's about it. His BA and OBP are not pretty.
  5. Haha well have they? I don't consider Shaws MLB numbers all that successful, especially compared to other third basemen.
  6. 2016 has really been his first season in which he's only been a reliever and healthy. He was throwing hard, striking out a ton of people and had a very good year all around. I don't think it's fair to call volatile because he seems to do fine when he has one defined role, which he's never had for an extended period of time before last year. Based on what? There is just this assumption that he is going to blow his elbow out again and this assumption that he's going to regress and almost nobody is actually believing he could do well again. If he were still in Milwaukee I would fully expect a sub 3.00 ERA with a high strikeout rate. Maybe that is an unrealistic expectation but considering how dominant he was last year I don't believe it is. I just don't understand this argument that we did well trading him now because it's only a matter of time before he pulls a Derrick Turnbow. While barely get on base at a .300 clip and striking out once every four at bats. We should have just kept Carter. He's the same thing but with much better power, although obviously not a third baseman. We are still in the early stages of a rebuild. Travis Shaw is not a guy you build around. He is a place filler. And we have to hope his second half last year was a fluke because his numbers were putrid.
  7. I called directv because I had a few questions about directv now. "Mike" didn't seem to have any idea what I was talking about at first. Then he said that if I had a regular directv account I could access directv now as well. Well that's certainly not true. He must have been talking about the regular directv app. It's frustrating not to be able to find a number to call to ask someone some basic questions. I'm thinking of signing up for the free trial even though I have directv and then only use the app to see how it goes.
  8. Our risk may be spread out over three players but the risk is much higher as none of them, including Shaw I'd argue, have had any real success at the major league level. I'd prefer to take the chance that Thornburg would have had another good season and tried to get a more advance starting pitching or third base prospect then, and I'll say it, settling for what we got. I think we settled. And I think this idea that Thornburg has only had one good season is a little overblown. He was awesome in 2013 when he came up. And he was off to a very good start the following year before Roenecke completely overused him and he wore down and got injured. Then after that he was still bounced around the rotation and the bullpen before he was finally given a consistent role, which he has excelled in. Injury is certainly a risk but it's risk for any pitcher. If you're trading away guys because you're afriaid they are going to get hurt then you aren't going to be hanging on to anyone very long.
  9. Assuming he has continued success. A lot of our top guys had pretty bad years last year. If Dubon doesn't have at least an above average season and Shaw plays how not people think he will play then I think this deal will look even worse to me then it does now. And if the reliever market at the deadline is a strong s it was last year.......
  10. Honestly if the biggest drawback is you need an antenna for locals then it sounds like a pretty good deal. My cable and Internet bill just seems to be getting out of control. The equipment fees are ridiculous too. I guess one final question is this. I don't currently have a smart tv. But I understand you can watch it on an Amazon Firestick and Google Chromecasr, both of which I have. Do you watch it on either and if so is the quality still alright?
  11. Are there any hidden fees? Contracts?
  12. The white sox just added two of the top three overall prospects in a matter of days. And they still have several very good trade chips. If they commit to a full scale firesale lookout for them in a few years.
  13. I wouldn't call Will Smith a long established shut down reliever but the return we got from him was pretty darn good. Also I think maybe JohnBriggs was talking about buying low on Jeffress. Certainly not Jeffress for Nelson straightup. I'd be willing to ship a few low level prospects for Jeffress if that's all it took to get him.
  14. Don't forget though he was a starter his entire minor league career. I'm sure it took time to adjust to a completely different role. And as if that wasn't bad enough it's not like he went from starter to reliever and that was that. He bounced back and forth numerous times. I also believe he was off to a really good start early on in, I want to say 2014, but was overused and broke down. I'm not saying he's a perennial all star. But I'd be more willing to guess his 2017 will be closer to his 2016 then any other years although those years weren't even that bad.
  15. I would have picked B. Thornburg was lights out most of the year. If he came even close to what he did last season the return would have been increased, particularly if the reliever trade market was similar. I realize it's a couple of big "ifs" but it's not like Thornburg had to be traded next year. If he had a down year you hang onto him and try again in 2018. I just can't help but feel as though we could have done better. And again it's not like he was a bad pitcher who just had a good year. He's been a pretty solid pitcher his entire career.
  16. "For those underwhelmed with the return, what deal can you recall where a reliever with one good season has been traded for a "quality" prospect" I think people are exaggerating a bit when they say Thornburg has only had one good year. He's been solid ever since he came up despite being bounced between the rotation and the bulllen. And I forget if it was 2014 or 2015 but he was off to a very good start before breaking down due to overuse. The fact is he's a 28 year old with three more years of control who has a career ERA under 3 with more strikeouts than innings pitched AND who excelled the moment he was moved to the closers role. Additionally, even if you want to use the one good season argument, wouldn't it then make more sense to hang onto him to see if he can put up another stellar year and increase his value even more? Unless of course you think his season was a fluke (Junior Guerra????) But there is no reason he was just going to fall off the cliff next year. Even if he wasn't as good as last year, a sub 3.00 ERA was, if not likely, at least a strong possibility. If the relief market was even close to what it was last year you could easily have gotten a top 75, if not top 50 starting pitching prospect for him. Instead they settled for a guy with limited major league success, a low level prospect who can't throw strikes, and a good but not great middle infield prospect. I'm certainly rooting for the new guys to succeed but I think we could have done better.
  17. I just can't get on board with this move. The reliever market was insane last year at the deadline. For Will Smith alone we got a top 100 starting pitcher prospect (and our #5). Not to mention what we got from Texas by throwing Jeffress in the Lucroy trade. Thornburg was probably better than both of those guys and if he put up numbers even close to last years he probably could have gotten us another very quality starting pitching prospect, which this system still desperately needs. Others said it but this is quantity over quality. We need quality.
  18. Has anyone subscribed to Directv now yet? I was thinking about it because the equipment fees on our current Directv bill really push it up. My biggest concern is live sports (is fox sports Wisconsin included?) and local channels. I know the locals don't include the Milwaukee market right now which sucks but if we get the Chicago locals I guess it's not the end of the world because we can always watch the Milwaukee locals with an antenna. If anyone has it I'd love to hear your opinion.
  19. I'm glad that there are still competitive balance picks but I think there needs to be more to it then simply the market ranking. I think success should be a factor. The bottom 5 teams record wise should get the picks after the first round and the top five after the second round. Teams who have consecutive winning seasons should be excluded from the picks until they have a year under .500 and teams who make the playoffs the previous season should be excluded. Nothing sucks more then to see teams like St Louis, Pittsburgh KC, etc get bonus picks when they are also winning and even sometimes making the playoffs.
  20. I haven't gone through the thread yet so sorry if I'm repeating old arguments. But honestly I don't understand the excitement over this signing. Thames comes across to me as a AAAA type player. Great numbers in the minors. Better numbers in Korea. But horrible numbers in close to 700 at bats in the majors. I just can't get excited over numbers from Korea, especially from someone who was a bust in the Majors 5 years ago. Plus he'll be 31 midway through next year. People tend to start their drop off around that age. I wasn't overly excited when I assumed it was a Ken year deal. But three years? This move reeks of desperation to me. Desperation to find a left handed power hitter and desperation to fill first base. I'd have much preferred they just moved either Braun or Santana to first to help alleviate the glut of outfielders we'll be dealing with in the next year or two. I don't understand the refusal to try out guys like Santana or even Coulter at first base.
  21. Is it just me or is there something tacky about people ringing those bells for the Salvation Army soliciting donations while talking on their cell phones? I get it. They are people and have lives. But if I going to drop some money in your kettle I'd prefer it if you aren't on the phone when I do so.
  22. A little variety is fine. But the key word is a little. We don't need 5 different jerseys that could be described as "regular" in addition to three or four other ones they only wear a few times. And some of them are so similar that it's pointless having separate ones. Do we really need a blue that says "Milwaukee" and a blue that says "Brewers"? This isn't college football where you have to change uniforms ever quarter to keep recruits interested in your school. Having so many different uniforms to, let's face it, make money seems so minor league-ish to me. It's like something the Admirals would do.
  23. By three do you really mean five? White with Brewers. Blue with Brewers. Blue with Milwaukee. Grey with Milwaukee. And Pinstripe. Plus what is their actual logo? Is the the M or is it the updated ball and glove? They've gone a little crazy with uniforms, probably in attempt to sell more mechanize. They need to chill out for awhile. We really don't need so many different jerseys. I have a jersey at home and I don't even know if it's outdated or not.
  24. Long overdue. Requiring some players to enter the draft and allowing others to be free agents immediately is a joke. Also ensures that the best talent is available to the worst teams, not just the teams willing to pay them the most and/or accept the penalties.
  25. Another bump in this thread. I've been part of a clan called Milw Elite Inc if anyone is looking for a solid clan. We war three times a week and are above .500 in our record. We are currently a level 4 clan but were a level 9 clan earlier. Our leader died apparently and we couldn't get the game to let him go so we started a new clan so we could control it better. It's invite only but if you request in just say GMan invited you. Hope to see some new members.
