  2. The way I see it, the Tigers, the Dodgers and the Nationals are now the main suitors for Braun, and that's only if he passes waivers. But when he is placed on waivers, and if one of these teams claim him, I think he currently has a negative value of about $8 million or so. The extreme case would be that he has about $18 million in surplus value. In each case, the Brewers have to chip in a bit to cover the salary he is still owed if traded. Ive said before that I felt the team would have to pay about $30 million of his remaining salary to get anything worthwhile back in return. They could work it to pay his remaining 2016 salary, pay the buyout in 2021 and then just be left with $5 million per year for the rest of the contract until 2020. From the Nationals, Erick Fedde would be a nice return in addition to a throw in player. From the Dodgers I think Willie Calhoun and Trevor Oaks would be a good return. From the Tigers I would want Steven Moya and then one of either Jeff Farrell or Paul Voelker. Just all depends on how those teams value Braun and whether they would be willing to take on $15 million in salary for a few years. He will probably produce enough to make it a break even contract for the receiving team. Just hope that someone who actually wants him is the team that claims him.
  3. As someone said Ray should be in there. And am i the only one who thinks Diaz, Diplan, Peralta and Woodruff could be ahead of a few on that list Eesh didnt include recent draftees. Ray definitely slots in ahead of Clark probably but I dont imagine any other guys from this years draft land in the top 10 now. Perhaps Erceg in front of Lara.
  4. Brewers new Top 10 Prospects List: Orlando Arcia Josh Hader Lewis Brinson Phil Bickford Trent Clark Brett Phillips Luis Ortiz Gilbert Lara Jacob Nottingham Kodi Medieros Isan Diaz is pissed!
  5. Heres the problem.... Love that Brinson AND Ortiz are coming over, but since Jeffress is part of the deal it means you probably are getting Lucroy for Ortiz and pieces based on the reliever market, which is sort of underwhelming. Mendez better be one of the throw ins if you ask me.
  6. Astros gave up on him because he didnt fit their mold. Felt he was a reliever. Obviously didnt think he would last as a starter, and that is still a possibility. His motion and size scream reliever or injury to scouts. Also, he didnt fit into the mold that the Astros are pursuing now for starting pitchers, which is strike throwers. They were thrilled with Fiers when they got him because "that's the type of pitcher we like".
  7. Just insane. Completely 1990's tech stock sort of market out there for relievers right now... Giants #1, and #50 prospect in all of baseball for a LHP reliever. I would say Bickford now becomes the best pitching prospect in the system. And then to get a starting catcher who hits, plays D very well, and was last year a top 100 prospect. Very nice trade. Now dump Jeffress and Thornburg as well.
  8. After seeing what the Red Sox gave up for Fernando Abad, maybe they should just focus on moving the 3 relief pitchers.... Youll get more it seems like in return than for Lucroy. Pat Light #10 prospect who might wind up being a big league closer VERY SOON. Heck, Jeffress must be worth a ton, Thornburg too in this market.
  9. I'm really hoping the Rockies jump in here on Lucroy and just deal him in the offseason to offset prospects they might lose (in addition to Cargo) for a Lucroy trade. On Gallo and his numbers...he also has a WC+ of 142 at AAA, pretty dang impressive. I'm not a huge fan of his, but he would be the prototypical 1B big bat LH player that could be the centerpiece of a future playoff contender. He maybe never hits .300 or even .280, but .250 with 30 HR a year is nothing to look down upon.
  10. I would love to see it. Musgrove may start tonight because Fister's wife is supposed to have a baby. He's the real deal. Reed is going to be great. That would probably sting the most. But it gets the Astros Luc and not the Rangers, so I'm all over it. I wonder if the Brewers would want Castro or Gattis back as well. No one is going to get Reed, but if you are dealing with the Astros, you need to center deal on Martes, Musgrove, Paulino or Kyle Tucker, and then as your secondary pieces Derek Fisher is a necessity as is Albert Abreu (if you send an arm), and if you dont then ask for James Hoyt as part of that deal. And if this "lowering expectations" thing comes to be the thing that keeps the Brewers from dealing Lucroy, this all lies on Stearns. You have to play to the market and what it is willing to pay. Lucroy's value is only going to decrease after today. And he has zero value to the rebuiling Brewers right now if he is still on the team tomorrow. He needs to be listening to best offers, make a counter if you need to, and live with the consequences. It only gets worse in the offseason.
  11. Dodgers returns I would want: Cody Bellinger, Grant Holmes, Austin Barnes (would need to include a pitcher to get Bellinger) Jose De Leon, Holmes, Barnes or Alex Verdugo, Holmes, Barnes As for all of the talk about Lucroy being a Brewer at the end of the day not being the end of the world: No it isnt, but it lessens the return you get on him by at least one really nice prospect. Right now the Brewers can expect one big prospect and a couple of add ons, of which are very nice players down in A Ball with a ton of potential. If they wait until the offseason he still has nice value, and they can still expect at least one big player in return, but nothing extra as far as lottery picks go.
  12. Call the Rockies!!!!! I think if we are dealing with the Rangers you have to get Ortiz and Mendez back and depending on whether you are sending a reliever expect Brinson or Gallo as the main piece. With a reliever: Gallo, Ortiz, Mendez without a reliever Brinson, Ortiz, Mendez.
  13. Its called bargaining. They probably felt like he was going to be dealt during the off-season but didnt want to tell him that, and also, if you have a sure job, what is your incentive to beat out a catcher who might be better than you defensively. They have Gomes locked up for 3 more years I think. I wouldnt say this was a bad move by the Indians to "say" that, but now the Brewers have to go fishing for the next best deal. I hope Stearns is calling an old Milwaukee guy out in Colorado and offering him up for something.
  14. I knew the guy was sort of a jag before this, this turn of events confirms my belief.
  15. If Mejia keeps progressing well (not that I'm expecting him to just destroy every level of minor league ball like he's been doing), he has an excellent chance to be more valuable than either Zimmer or Frazier. You mention that they play premium OF positions, but seem to ignore the fact that Mejia plays a premium infield position. One of the things that made Lucroy so valuable was that he played catcher. Now the Brewers have a guy that could be his replacement in a few years PLUS got two other players with very nice potential. the point I am trying to make is that it sounds like they could have landed one of the OF AND Mejia. Dont get me wrong, I like Mejia, and expected him to be a part of the deal. But if had "insisted" on one of Frazier or Zimmer and "landed" on Zimmer, then you add Mejia after. And even after all of that a Zimmer/Mejia deal doesnt get the Brewers fair value in return for his worth.
  16. I am quite certain GM's don't care about Baseball America lists. Meija easily has the highest ceiling of those three. Can you explain how you see that? Because in my mind a 5 tool CF is more valuable than a 3 tool catcher who possibly has attitude problems.
  17. So here is the big problem I have now with this, and David Stearns: Im upset that, if rumors are true, that when dealing with the Indians on Jonathan Lucroy, he "insisted" on one of the three of Frazier (ranked 21st), Zimmer (ranked 27th) and Mejia (ranked 70th by Baseball America). Of course the Indians are going to "settle" on their lower ranked prospect. I undertand that he is not advanced as the other two and may have more upside, but both Zimmer and Frazier have tons of upside as well, play premium OF positions, have speed, and power potential....they are 5 tool prospects, and Mejia isnt. He should have insisted on Frazier or Zimmer and then asked for Mejia as an additional piece. And then secondly, he should have known that the Indians were looking for a relief pitcher. Given what they are going to give up for Andrew Miller, who has 2.5 years left at $9 million a year, the Brewers should have at least expected at least Sheffield for 2.5 years of Will Smith. I have a feeling that Lucroy is going to turn down the deal and ask for something crazy on the financial side that will nix the whole deal, but Stearns does not look good in this play of events in my opinion. And if this happens, then he has to go shopping for the next best deal. And if this was what the best was for Lucroy, then the "next best" is even worse, and he has to go back to them with his tail between his legs.
  18. Yeah, and still no impact arms in the system.
  19. This doesn't sound good for Stearns. Insist on Frazier /Zimmer and then pull in Mejia as the second piece He underplayed his hand if this is the case.
  20. If this is the case it's Frazier and Mejia and one of the pitchers
  21. You realized he punched a wall, right? After she dropped the suitcase on his hand? Or before? Instead of dropping the suitcase.
  22. You realized he punched a wall, right?
  23. I cant shake the Rockies thought I recently had.... Lets say they are the mystery team...They are loaded with big time pitching prospects, as well as a couple of nice offensive ones. And they offered Dahl, McMahon and Marquez. They are 4 games out of the WC and Lucroy gets them there, or they fall just a bit short. They still have a young roster, and then in the offseason ship both Lucroy and Cargo off to contenders, and get one big name back (at least) for each of them. Wouldnt make what they could give up for Lucroy look all that bad then.
  24. Do you want Frazier, Rosario, Albies or perhaps David Dahl as your centerpiece? Hows that for a "mystery team"? I'd want Frazier because I think he is the best of them and I want Mejia so I guess I'd want the Indians center piece for that reason. Unfortunately I don't think he is on the table. I feel like a non contending team(Rockies) would be really surprising...I guess you never know though. Rockies are one game under .500, have horrible catching production, Lucroy is cheap, and they can flip him in the offseason if they dont want to resign him, and can regain some of the prospects lost if they moved for him. Think about it, Rockies could make a monster offer better than even Cleveland perhaps.
