  1. In an article this morning at The Athletic they make is sound like Devin Williams was a possible trade candidate to the Royals if the Brewers had signed Chapman. Now that Chapman is a Pirate, the trade seems less likely to happen. https://theathletic.com/5227181/2024/01/25/2024-baseball-hall-of-fame-royals-trade-closer-the-windup/ (Subscription required) My thoughts: This is an interesting take. If we had been lining up a trade and signed Arolodis to be the closer as a bridge to Uribe - it would have extended our competitive window while getting more assets for Devin at the peak of his value. What assets we would want from the Royals I would question though, their system is not very good....and some of their recent young players in MLB haven't really produced. Maybe we were looking at Vinny P or Singer before we signed Rhys or something?
  2. Boras is holding up the market with the next 4 players. Snell asking for over $200m, Bellinger over $200m, Chapman over $150m, etc....no teams want to pay those prices, so Boras will sit on them until someone meets his demands. Frankly I think teams are sick of being bullied so they just aren't going to budge. Teams with assets to trade are either asking to much, or teams not willing to meet the price point - because there are still top players available that only cost $. Basically a giant staring contest to see who blinks first.
  3. To platoon with Bauers, wouldn't be that bad of an option. Can play OF in a pinch (like Bauers). But I wouldn't give up much. Freddy Zamora probably the top level of prospect I would even think about.
  4. I wouldn't mind this at all: Crawford, Rafaela, Dalbec, Mata or W.Gonzalez for Burnes. You get a MLB rotation piece with upside and control still, a top 50 prospect with elite defense and improving hit/power tools, a reclamation project to pair with Bauers at 1B to give us sort of a post-hype prospect platoon situation. A former top prospect coming off of injury but has some elite pitches that could be special or a rising pitcher with control issues.
  5. You shall have Haase for $1m and like it.
  6. It would have to be so much quantity as they don't have quality - I doubt they would drain their farm and key young players for 1 year of Burnes - but it is the Angels. I just don't think they match up well. If I squint: Burnes for Schanuel, Dana, Silseth, Rada They just have a terrible organization.
  7. The more I research Ceddanne Rafaela, the more I think he fits. Possible GG at multiple positions - hit/power tools improving, only 23. I could see him being our 2B, with Turang at SS if we trade Willy. I could also see him being included with Wikelman Gonzalez and either Houck/Whitlock/Crawford as the MLB piece. Wouldn't think you would need to pair Willy in this deal either. Solves a ton of problems, with tons of upside, and 2024 value to boot. Burnes for Rafaela, Gonzalez, Houck/Whitlock/Crawford - Maybe get them to throw in Bobby Dalbec to platoon with Bauers at 1B or something
  8. So he was just blowing smoke for click bait, lol
  9. Seems like a pricey experiment - 2 prospects, plus $2.2m. At least he has an option
  10. Had to share this. It’s too good.
  11. If they want to eat some money and take a lesser prospect like Carlos Rodriguez (OF) or Freddy Zamora - ok, I could get behind that. Otherwise hard pass - too expensive, too injured to have much value.
  12. Andrew Knizner for backup catcher Turnbull would be a good one too
  13. Maybe he can't decline an outright, but I can't see a guy like him surviving the 40 man all off-season

  15. Nice report! Visited Copperstown as a kid back in the 90's. Hope to get back some day!
  16. Yes he is still injured - on the 60 day IL
  17. Probably short-term until Donaldson is ready.

  19. He is ready, your OPS number is not correct, that is is OBP:
  20. This is the right level of prospect package I would be willing to give up for him. I think with his injury history and expensive contract, his value might be a bit surpressed, so getting anything sniffing a Top 100 list is a huge stretch. Nice review!
  21. Ouch I hope not - that is a brutal deal he signed
  22. Got to think he is coming back in August sometime. Do we think he plays a role in how we approach the deadline?
