  1. What he signs for will be very interesting. Would expect to be underslot, which should increase the odds of more high school picks this evening.
  2. I am not so sure we don't see four college players to the Brewers tonight.
  3. Culpepper could be the pick if they are looking to go well under slot.
  4. With HS pitching and hitting considered a weakness in the 2024 draft, I wonder if the Brewers would consider doing a '2020 draft' and just simply taking their top college player on the board for all of the top draft picks.
  5. I suspect we will see a heavy dose of pitchers and outfielders this year.
  6. If you want one of the top three catchers, you probably have to give them an underslot deal at seventeen (17), as I don't know if any of them make it to 34.
  7. With just over a week to go, we are probably looking at Benge or C. Smith at a 'slot deal', hoping for King or Waldschmidt to take a (slight) underslot deal, or Cijntje or one of the college catchers on an 'underslot'. There are likely 12-13 locks to be gone by 17 and I don't see the Brewers going for the toolsy Honeycutt.
  8. A number of juco pitchers I could see the Brewers taking as early as round four. Regarding who the HS pitcher at 34 - probably whoever out of about a half dozen candidates would we willing to take the money (pure guess - Oakie from IA).
  9. It will be interesting to see the first couple of picks for the Brewers and how that financially will shape the draft. Is there a group of college hitters they like that they can get one at at least a slight discount, as I would expect that Tibbs, C. Moore, C. Smith, King, and Benge are probably all around slot. If you can't get underslot at 17, can you take a HS pitcher at 33? There are probably 6-8 high school pitchers that you might be able to get near '33 slot'.
  10. Definitely a strategy that is similar to Brewers' strategies in the past. The challenging part is giving 'slot' deals in the first 2-3 picks makes it difficult to create much savings. Hopefully the savings used last year work out better (Bitonti and Pratt) than the '14 draft of high schoolers that didn't provide much to the major league team other than a trade chip.
  11. The main reason teams go underslot on their first pick. The Brewers tend to do this other than the year that Frelick fell to them. Find someone that doesn't believe they are going to get picked until 5-10 spots after your pick and 'make a deal'. Regarding an earlier reply, I don't see a JUCO pitcher on day one for the Brewers this year.
  12. Would be a great start...would need to find savings later, as likely both of these would be 'slot value' deals.
  13. I think college bat is most likely at 17 with King, Tibbs, C. Smith, and Benge as possible 'slot deals' or Janek, C. Moore, Culpepper, Lomavita, Waldschmidt, or Cozart as possilbe 'underslot deals'. The second group would likely be in play for 'slot deals' at 34, also.
  14. Question would be would the Brewers take a college catcher at 17/34?
