  1. What he signs for will be very interesting. Would expect to be underslot, which should increase the odds of more high school picks this evening.
  2. I am not so sure we don't see four college players to the Brewers tonight.
  3. Culpepper could be the pick if they are looking to go well under slot.
  4. With HS pitching and hitting considered a weakness in the 2024 draft, I wonder if the Brewers would consider doing a '2020 draft' and just simply taking their top college player on the board for all of the top draft picks.
  5. I suspect we will see a heavy dose of pitchers and outfielders this year.
  6. If you want one of the top three catchers, you probably have to give them an underslot deal at seventeen (17), as I don't know if any of them make it to 34.
  7. With just over a week to go, we are probably looking at Benge or C. Smith at a 'slot deal', hoping for King or Waldschmidt to take a (slight) underslot deal, or Cijntje or one of the college catchers on an 'underslot'. There are likely 12-13 locks to be gone by 17 and I don't see the Brewers going for the toolsy Honeycutt.
  8. A number of juco pitchers I could see the Brewers taking as early as round four. Regarding who the HS pitcher at 34 - probably whoever out of about a half dozen candidates would we willing to take the money (pure guess - Oakie from IA).
  9. Would Dickerson, at this point, even take 'slot money' at 34 or would he be more expensive than that?
  10. It will be interesting to see the first couple of picks for the Brewers and how that financially will shape the draft. Is there a group of college hitters they like that they can get one at at least a slight discount, as I would expect that Tibbs, C. Moore, C. Smith, King, and Benge are probably all around slot. If you can't get underslot at 17, can you take a HS pitcher at 33? There are probably 6-8 high school pitchers that you might be able to get near '33 slot'.
  11. Definitely a strategy that is similar to Brewers' strategies in the past. The challenging part is giving 'slot' deals in the first 2-3 picks makes it difficult to create much savings. Hopefully the savings used last year work out better (Bitonti and Pratt) than the '14 draft of high schoolers that didn't provide much to the major league team other than a trade chip.
  12. The main reason teams go underslot on their first pick. The Brewers tend to do this other than the year that Frelick fell to them. Find someone that doesn't believe they are going to get picked until 5-10 spots after your pick and 'make a deal'. Regarding an earlier reply, I don't see a JUCO pitcher on day one for the Brewers this year.
  13. Would be a great start...would need to find savings later, as likely both of these would be 'slot value' deals.
  14. I think college bat is most likely at 17 with King, Tibbs, C. Smith, and Benge as possible 'slot deals' or Janek, C. Moore, Culpepper, Lomavita, Waldschmidt, or Cozart as possilbe 'underslot deals'. The second group would likely be in play for 'slot deals' at 34, also.
  15. Question would be would the Brewers take a college catcher at 17/34?
  16. Looks like another solid group of prospects according to their rankings. Hopefully this continues to happen despite the loss of Groopman a couple of months ago.
  17. Analytics are definitely not going away in Milwaukee. The most interesting new hires to me are Koo and Salazar. Interesting promotions include Armstrong, Pelzer, Rodriguez, and R. Rosario.
  18. Will be interesting to see if they promote someone like Luis Perez from within or go outside the organization. With success is going to come departures for promotions.
  19. Wishing Dawson and Timmons nothing but the best as they try to merge old school and new school together.
  20. Similarly, there are a lot of MLB players "underpaid" during their pre-arby years.
  21. A good day for Tyrone Taylor. The team will need another outfielder (unless Garcia resigns) unless they feel comfortable with Corey Ray as the fifth outfielder.
  22. Nine less at bats in 2020 when he was having a down year and Avisail probably has the Brewers simply accept the club option, as the mutual option would not have been triggered.
  23. Since Coach Daws is now following Mike Vassallo, there is probably a good chance this is happening. Congratulations and welcome!
  24. I would think the Brewers would have agreed to the mutual option, so the question is are you willing to pay another $6.4 million to keep Avisail or get a draft pick? Probably an easy choice (yes) for a large market team, but a really tough decision for a small market club.
  25. Congratulations to Tim McIlvaine on his new position with the Angels. It will be interesting to see if the team promotes from within to fill their opening.
