  1. Is there any chance we do like the Red Sox have done with Jed Lawrie and play Escobar at 3rd and Short next year and deal with the problem later? I'm sure Escobar's offense wouldn't fit 3rd but Hardy might be able to make up for it by being an above average shortstop and Escobar's defense should be well above average wherever he plays. I would love to get rid of Weeks and keep Durham for 2nd but he can't play there everyday. Maybe we can put Escobar there every few days too. Mix in a little Branyan at 3rd with Gamel by the end of the year and this may be the cheapest option. I understand that Escobar is probably the best defensive player we have and short would be the best place to play him but he's barely a rookie he really hasn't earned the right to be given a position on the major league team when we have a pretty good player there already. If Escobar proves himself to be good enough with the bat to stick around and JJ refuses to move we trade JJ. Sure we would have lost some leverage but we didn't just waste time on Hall and Weeks.
  2. I used to like most of his columns in SI but it seems like he's become a complete idiot since going to ESPN. Does anyone remember his comentating during the homerun derby. Some of the stuff he said was borderline racist.
  3. Sorry, not close enough to Milwaukee to make it worth it.
  4. If its not too late I'd be interested.
  5. I've got an old plastic batting helmet. A real one, not a souvenoir one and want to paint it. It's a little scraped and chipped after years of being thrown around and looks more grey than black and I want to make it look like new. How do you suggest I go about doing this? I was thinking I would sand it, maybe clean with some alcohol and then paint it with Krylon. Will this do the trick?
  6. Another link from mlbtraderumors.com http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-sp.bbnotes22jul22,0,5720289.story He might be up in September I would think. I'll root for him just like I root for Juan Pierre. They both played for the Manitowoc Skunks in the Northern League when there was a team here. I met both of them and have their autographs on a ball with a bunch of guys who never amounted to anything.
  7. After seeing the game winning sac fly in the All Star game it got me thinking how would you appeal that. Normally the pitcher comes set, steps off and throws to the base. But in this situation the game is over and the pitcher won't have an opportunity to come set. Would you just throw it to the base right away? I would imagine the umpires would be on their way off the field right away so they wouldn't make a call. Does anyone remember this ever happening?
  8. I'll be getting a MacBook pretty soon and just wondering what the differences are between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. I'll be starting my career as a graphic designer pretty soon, hopefully, so I will mainly use it for Adobe programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). I know there is someone who is a graphic designer around here and maybe he can give me some input.
  9. Does anyone else remember when Fox Sports did the Saturday Game of the Week showing the history of broadcasting baseball. I believe it was the Dogers at the Cubs. Each inning they progressed through history. I thought it was pretty cool. If they stuck with the same one for the whole game though, that could be frustrating.

  11. I've been trying to come up with a way to take advantage of batting out of order for a while and I think I finally have it. Here is the situation and please tell me where I'm wrong or point out any flaws. Bottom of the 7th, Brewers are at home and up 3-1. Ben Sheets is pitching a great game, has a low pitch count and been dominating all day. He is set to lead off the inning in the 9 spot. Instead Rickie Weeks come up the bat. Weeks gets a hit. The other team notices the mistake and Weeks is called out for batting out of order. Weeks would be next up so he is up again but with one out. My theory is that since Sheets is an automatic out anyway why not take a chance that the other team doesn't notice the mistake. Also this saves a pinch hitter and the bullpen as Sheets can continue to pitch. Did I apply the rule correctly? Do you think this is worth a try some time?
  12. I completely forgot about "How The West Was Won". And I have it!
  13. I was thinking of that line from Waynes World when I typed it. I pulled that one out when I was talking to my friend about live albums and he looked at me like $$!.
  14. Maybe I don't hear about live albums now because there's nothing special about them. Like I said, each performance needs to take a life of its own and the few concerts that I've been too the only thing that seperates the album from the live performance is just that you're there witnessing the music instead of just listening to it. Some of the greatest albums ever are live albums in my opinion. Live at Leeds, Frampton Comes Alive, Band of Gypsies, and some others I'm sure. If you listen to these you notice that most of the songs are nothing like the studio versions. Heck listen to any studio song by The Who and then compare it to a live version. They won't sound anything alike. Even two live versions are completely different.
  15. Do bands do live albums anymore? I was discussing this with one of my friends a while ago. I said there was no reason for them to because any live performance nowadays is basically just a reproduction of what you would hear on an album. Not that I pay too much attention to the current popular music scene but this is my impression from what I do. I have a few live albums Isle of Wight '70, Woodstock, some Van Halen album I don't know where I got it from and each performance takes a life of its own. Maybe I'm just not that on top of things but I can't remember the last time I heard of someone doing a live album.
  16. What do people mean by calling a good game. I've pitched in high school, college and amateur ball and I've always called the pitches. The catchers puts down the signs and I shake till I get what I want. Sometimes I'll have a catcher come out and tell me "this is working, this is isn't" and I'll adjust but I've never just thrown whatever the catcher puts down.
  17. I know there was a Brewerfan.net league but I need at least one more for my league. Many more can join though. It's through Yahoo, points league and basically your basic scoring and rosters. Draft is at 9:15 tonight so hurry. League ID: 53643 Password: die
  18. I found this one http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=7060?page=5 it's more about through the mail. Anyone have info about getting them signed at the park?
  19. I don't think his injuries will make all the much of a difference if we have to trade him. The guy has talent and there is going to be some team willing to give up something useful for him. A guy that comes to mind is Kris Benson. After his first two seasons he was pretty average to above average and was nothing but injuries, but teams still wanted him. His first trade wasn't for much but his second was for John Maine. Sheets is much better than Benson and doesn't have any history of shoulder or elbow problems. I think if we have to trade him we'll get something good in return.
  20. I've been getting baseball autographs through the mail for the last year and a half or so. This summer I plan on going to a lot more Brewer games than I ever have before. What are some of your experiences with players signing at Miller Park and Brewers that sign through the mail? Like where do the players usually sign? Who's pretty good when it comes to signing? How about visiting players? I do plan to make use of autograph Fridays too, are they still doing that?
  21. I was thinking today about this. There is a good chance that if Boras is Fielder's agent when he becomes a free agent he will be out of here. What about some things that may keep him here? First off would be the team being very talented and winning. Another would be Attanasio's willingness to spend. What came to mind for me is Ryan Howard and Mark Texieria. Texieria is a free agent at the end of the year and looks like he will not be staying in Atlanta. Howard doesn't seem to be getting along with the Phillies too well and may not want to stay. Those two could be the starters for the Yankees and Red Sox by the time Fielder is a free agent. Sure they would have a spot for a DH as well, which would probably be the best for Fielder, but taking those two teams out of the equation should help a little. I suppose if Laporta is a decent player by then it may be wise to let Fielder go and move him to first. Do you thing that those two guys (Howard and Texieria) have any affect at all on what happens to Fielder? Any other "out of the box" things you can think of that will have an affect?
  22. Why should we be embarrassed? Countries like Mexico and Japan and to a lesser extent Canada and England have long traditions of pro wrestling. I think a lot has to do with Vince McMahon has made it but it's not like it's something new to the world.
  23. That's pretty good, but Mike Matheny taking a fastball in the face and walking it off is up there. Also that catcher who had his shoulder dislocated on a collision at the plate and snapped it back into place. Catchers are tough SOB's.
  24. Since this was a stimulant violation and not a performance enhancer violation, could someone please tell me what is the difference between popping a few "greenies" before a game and having a few Monster's or coffee? More importantly how can you test for that?
