I'm not sure why people are against a signing of Phillips if it's on a one year deal. You're giving hiura more time in the minors, which is more time in his prime in the bigs. Phillips is an obvious upgrade over any of our current 2B, and you're not risking anything in signing him. What's the downside on a one year deal?

Are you a child? Or do you have inside info? Serious question. Because if you don't have inside knowledge of what will come next then you're coming off as a petulant child. Cobb at $60 million dollars essentially would have had to been the final piece to the puzzle. It wouldn't have left much room to do anything else major. Does anyone here feel comfortable finishing off a contending team with Alex Cobb at 15 per for 4 years? The tone of your post is "they didn't do what I wanted so that's it, they're never going to do what's necessary to build a contender. I'm taking my ball and going home!" I don't know why you got upset over this post, I didn't direct it at anyone in particular. I was very pro Cobb, as I don't think this roster can compete to go far in the playoffs with this current rotation. Another reason I was pro Cobb, was because I think the reason that they aren't willing to expand their payroll much right now, since it seems they seem more concerned with resigning their current players with future arb raises. It wouldn't have been hard to add a guy like Lynn on a 1 year deal for $12 million, yet they decided against something little like that. They don't want to stretch themselves too thin on their payroll for when they need to pay guys like Shaw, Davies or Nelson. They're banking on the fact that their prospects like Burnes or Hiura are going to come up within the next 1-2 years and really perform. Management is going to have a much better up close look at that than we do sitting on the sidelines, and hopefully they're right. My point is, don't expect too many more moves within the next few years, I think this is the Brew Crew that you're going to have for the foreseeable future, except a few fillers here and there.

I'm sure there will be a few people here that are just gonna flip the switch from saying they were gonna sign Cobb to now theyre gonna trade for Archer.... Nothings going to happen, you've got what you've got. Might as well just not even go in this section anymore until next off season

Broxton getting more interest than Santana?
badger3034 replied to TURBO's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This is entirely the reason why I don't want the Brewers to trade Broxton. First off, he isn't going to get you much of anything in a trade, as a high K, low avg, low obp, quick (but dumb) base runner, average defender right handed CF. He has a lot of control, and has major league time. If you have some sort of disaster where 2/3 or 3/3 outfielders get hurt for some amount of time, you have another guy you can slot in the outfield if you option him down to the minors. I wouldn't mind if he came in and played for a few weeks if there was some sort of emergency, you have the option available to you, and it provides some minor league depth. And who knows? It's not like I hate the guy as a person, he's just a bad baseball player right now. If you held onto him, there's always the possibility that he could get better. I don't want to trade the guy for absolutely no reason, when he isn't required to be on the MLB team at all for the year, you can put him in the minors and he can sit there just fine. -
They obviously think that Cain is going to age well, otherwise they wouldn't have given him a 5 year deal. If they're not willing to talk to Lynn, who wouldn't be leaving his division, and signed a 1 year deal, they clearly think he's going to play well throughout his contract. The front office has a clear, concise plan, and I feel that is comforting. None of us know what that is, because we each all know what we want, but they know much better since they see everything first hand. Whether it's you want Santana or Broxton traded, or Cobb signed, Stearns already has his dominoes laid I feel.
-
What difference does it make? Just answer that question. This thread is 66 pages long, and everything thus far is speculation. Do I want the Brewers to sign Cobb? Yes. No one has posted anything with any continuity to it, and no one will until he signs. Everyones opinion has been said. Who cares? It's just entertainment, like I said at this point.
-
Who cares? It's entertainment at this point, everyone listened to High heat like he was the gospel, mods did nothing about it when they knew about it, and a guy gets flamed at because he shares one tweet? Seems a little hypocritical to call him out for something like that. No one knows anything until Cobb actually signs, so let the fun ensue.
-
For the last time... markets aren't set by what you have they are set by what 29 teams want/need. He's at rock bottom? ... no... becuase 1 more year of limited production with no options is worthless... thats rock bottom. He's simply not worth a lot. We got him for nothing then he had a streak. Why is he supposed to be worth something? He's worth more than he was worth when we got him and teams will give up something to fill a need. He's a 4th OF with some upside because hes a 20/20 guy. There wasn't a sell high point on broxton. He's just better than rogers. I guess my point is, why trade him at all then? He could do good, he could do bad, but you can put him in AAA, and if a couple of people get hurt, you can bring him up and he can soak up some innings. I never want the guy as an everyday outfielder, but at this point if you're trading him for nothing, don't trade him for anything at all.
-
That isn't my point here. Do I think that Santana has value and can help another team? Yes, I do. Do I think that other teams see the flaws in Santanas game and don't want to give up great value to get him right now? Yes I do. The guy is one of the worst outfielders defensively in the game, I'm not sure if you can get much worse than him. He is good offensively, which if we didn't have Braun, I wouldn't care about the fact that hes bad defensively. The reasons teams are scared of trading good value for him (not great), is because they think hes reached his ceiling. Would you want a player whose going to decline offensively over the next 3 years for a few bigger prospects/decent big league players, who is atrocious defensively? Now on top of that, do I think that Santana has reached his potential? It's possible, and I'm all for trading high. I'm not somebody whose against trading Santana, I'd love to do it because it makes our situation in the outfield much simpler. I'm just playing devils advocate, and you have to see it from the other perspective, in which other teams clearly see his flaws. You can't blame the "slow" offseason anymore, now that all of these free agents have signed. Every team that the Brewers have been linked to decided to cheap free agents as opposed to paying up in trade value for the primo younger outfielder coming off a good offensive season. All signs point to the fact that teams don't like him.
-
What? Lol, is this sarcasm? Or not, I don't know because of peoples opinions on this board
-
You don't just trade Santana because Braun can't play first base. Braunny can't play everyday more than likely, I'd suspect 120 games at minimum, 140 at maximum. If he's closer to 140, then great, but you don't just trade Santana for a bag of baseballs. He is a very good talent to have around, regardless if he gets a lot of at bats. I think a lot of teams would beg to have the kind of outfield depth we have, and Stearns understands that. He isn't going to succumb to some bogus trade that teams offer just because we have such depth. In the end, if there's a team that really wants a strong outfielder, they will come forth, but that isn't going to be early. The rumors that he's been shopped have been around since November, and I sincerely believe there's truth to that. I start to get annoyed with some people who have a total homer personality, whether its about avoiding salary, or whether your Brewers are worth so much in a trade. Keon isn't worth anything right now, he's a total non trade option, unless you want 1 or 2 lottery tickets at best.
-
Having someone mash in AAA, as opposed to batting .220 in the majors gives a larger return, especially after having some major league experience.
-
Occasionally, I will sell my Brewer tickets. I have a 20 game pack in the club section, its section 337, row 1, seats 1 and 2. I will sell the 2 tickets together for a total of $100, and I will post which games I'm selling. They are great seats, and I've been a part of having a season package across the stadium, probably my favorite. If anyone is interested, you can PM me, and I'll let you know which games I'd be interested in getting rid of. Sometimes my work can make it inconvenient for me to make it to a game, and I'll meet you at a neutral place to sell the tickets. I'm based in the Milwaukee area

Ok, its how many months into the off season? Domingo hasn't been traded, he more than likely won't be. If the Brewers had a reasonable haul for the guy, there is no doubt that he would've been traded by now. The only situation Santana is traded for anything reasonable, is if some team has a desperate need for outfielder and one of theirs goes down. The guy isn't going to be traded before the off-season is over, I think we need to get over that. If he plays well, and some team wants some offensive pop, then maybe you'll see the guy moved by the trade deadline, but other than that, temper your expectations. As for Keon, the guy sucks. Any team asking on him right now is asking to buy low. The Brewers know he had a bad season, and everyone else in baseball knows he had a bad season. If you guys (which some people overvalue him imo) think he is any good, why would you trade him now? If he has the potential to be a decent outfielder, whats the bother? If he sits in AAA, and has some good numbers, that's going to drive his value up, albeit slightly, but more than the garbage he would attract right now. I suspect no moves further made by the Brewers by the end of the offseason, which is disappointing to me. I wish they'd just sign Cobb. Lynn really didn't get a good deal at all, and I don't think Cobbs asking price would be much higher. Just give him the money
-
Guess I was confused why people would get so upset when someone questioned him. They obviously were right to do so..
-
I'd be quite content paying Lynn AAV of $13/mil for 2-3 years, maybe a 3rd year player option, based off of the twins reported offer, with a bit of incentives built in to push it to $15/mil AAV if he makes them.

Broxton getting more interest than Santana?
badger3034 replied to TURBO's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Value = Worth. Haudricourt said there was more interest in Broxton and people have been discussing his value. I don't believe anybody has said Broxton has more trade value than Santana, just more interest. There are posters who bash Villar and there are posters who believe he could bounce back just like there are posters who treat Broxton (and plenty of others) the same way. I haven't seen too many going out of there way to hate on Villar while praising or expecting great things from Broxton. I'd personally say that both of them have shown flashes but have yet to prove they can sustain it. Hence the reason you have the spectrum of opinions on both. I guess I can't really say that Broxton is going to "bounce back," if he doesn't have anything to bounce back to. He's been good for about a stretch of 2 weeks per season hes been in the big leagues, maybe referring to that? Also, value does not = worth. If I go to the grocery store and buy something on sale for 99 cents, that doesn't mean its worth another item that is $5 normally, I just happened to buy the relatable item when it was at its cheapest value. That's how I equate value to a player, just like you would buy low on a player after a bad season, and you sell high on a player when they have a good season. The Brewers are trying to sell high on Santana, and other teams are trying to buy low on Broxton, which in some peoples minds here, make them think he has good value. I just think that the teams that are offering on Broxton are attempting to buy low, which is very low, considering the season he had last year. If there was a good offer, he would've been traded already, Broxton is not in the Brewers short term, or long term plans unless Santana is traded. In that scenario, there is a small chance he could stick around for a bit, albeit on a small amount of playing time. -
Broxton getting more interest than Santana?
badger3034 replied to TURBO's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Luckily not everyone views him as lowly as you do. Yes, he has a high strikeout rate and a low OBP, but despite your opinion on his defense, most think he is a very good centerfielder and in just over a season's worth of at bats in his career, he has 29 homers and 45 stolen bases. That's a pretty rare combo these days and someone has a chance of catching Carlos Gomez: Part 2 for a couple years if they give him a chance to start full time. I actually like him quite a bit as a 4th/5th outfielder on this team (depending on what happens with the whole Santana/Braun situation), but he should be more valuable for a rebuilding team that can take a chance on him as a starter. He still doesn't hit arbitration for another two years and has five years of control left overall. There should be quite a bit of value in that and I definitely wouldn't want to just give him away, but if someone gives up something that has the potential to be valuable on the MLB team someday it should definitely be considered, in which case Phillips slides into that 4th/5th outfielder role perfectly as well. As a sidenote, I haven't seen anyone interpret the Haudricourt tweet as if Broxton is *worth* more than Santana, just that more teams are interested, in part due to the fact that he would come cheaper. People on this forum bash Villar, who has had a good season in his career, but then praise Broxton, who hasn't proven anything in his time in the bigs. I hope you temper your expectations for how much you'd get in a trade for Broxton, because if you don't, you're going to be a disappointed. If Broxton is traded, and not optioned back down, it's purely for roster space. I don't think anyone would consider him an "asset," and if you do, just expect a bad scenario for yourself Also in that post, I didn't say that Broxton is *worth* more than Santana, I just mentioned that people believe his trade value is higher, which shouldn't be true -
Broxton getting more interest than Santana?
badger3034 replied to TURBO's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
But those numbers (25-30 CFs) mean that he is a MLB starting caliber player as he can start with 5 teams. Most of the trades are for lower end players, so its not like people are treating him like an all-star. He is what he is... he has some decent qualities as a players and some deficiencies. He can fill a gap (as he did for us), but is a guy you want to replace. If you can get anything for Broxton, do it. You probably won't see that player(s) in the majors in their career, but that's okay, because you're clear of Broxton. I wouldn't dilly dally around with a trade revolving around the guy, just get what you can get. I didn't think people are treating him as an all-star, but people are over valuing Haudricourts tweet that he has more trade value than Santana I think. Broxton isn't worth much, which is why he is garnering more attention. The Brewers are valuing Santana higher than what other clubs are, which is why he isn't garnering as much attention, I think that should be pretty obvious -
Let me clarify. Yelich was "on sale" because if the Marlins weren't a joke of a baseball franchise he would have never been on the market to begin with period. end of story there. I think we paid slightly under retail for Yelich in terms of what we value... gave up a few bats that are very high risk/reward and a meh pitching prospect. None of what Stearns gave up fits his "mold" we think he is using of OBP. Cain on the other hand I agree fully, and really don't know why we did it, makes absolutely zero sense to me without a domino to fall after it. I have to believe there is still one coming here at some point before we kick off the season in the form of controllable SP (or a discount from the big 3), otherwise IMO it was just dumb. Doesn't mean I won't pull for Lo the next 5 years wholeheartedly though. To me, if you have the chance to sign a player like a Cain, you jump at it. I don't think any team in baseball is going to complain about having an excess of depth at a specific position(s). Cain is a really good player, just as the other 3 outfielders are, don't kid yourself into thinking that you'd rather have Phillips playing over any of Cain, Yelich, Braun or Santana. I love Phillips as a 4th outfielder, but it's possible he won't get that opportunity this year, and that's okay. Thus far he's having a pretty awful spring, and it may be okay to give him some more time in the minors. As far as Santana goes, I'm not gonna complain if I have that much talent in my outfield, at least offensively speaking. This will give Braun more time resting and keeping him on the field healthy more frequently. In the past, I was somewhat annoyed with how frequently Braun would have to take days off due to injury, no fault of his own obviously. Now when Braunny has to take a break, you're not sacrificing anything offensively, their Yelich/Cain/Santana/Perez will be able to handle the outfield duties pretty handily when he has to take a few days off.
-
What kind of worries me if the Brewers don't sign a SP this offseason, their plan is to sign a lot of these guys on the roster right now when they become contract eligible. That doesn't sound bad upfront, but the thing is, are most of these guys going to be worth multiple year contracts? Braun, Cain, and Yelich are, but are you going to fork out $10-15 million when Santana becomes eligible? Davies? Nelson, if he doesn't come back the same way? Thames, Aguilar when their deals are up? Shaw? Knebel? I have a feeling that the players we have now are going to still be on the team in 4 years-ish, and I guess I don't feel that bad about it. I feel like a lot of these guys are attached to Milwaukee, and when I watch them play, they put their hearts on their sleeves. You can really see their emotions come out and feel a passion for trying to win. The only problem is... I don't think this team alone can win a world series. Even if everyone of them played at their ceiling, I still think we will be below the top 3 teams in baseball. That I think is why I have a problem with them not spending their payroll now. You do have minor leaguers like Hiura or Burnes that will come up and help out a lot, and could blossom into all-stars, but it just feels like they're just going to be a revolving door where when their prospects get to their ceiling, its time for their payday, and the Brewers won't pay up. It's a scary and pessimistic thought, but that's what I've gained from Stearns dialogue

Broxton getting more interest than Santana?
badger3034 replied to TURBO's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Are we talking about the same Broxton? https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9253&position=OF You'll notice he was an excellent player in 2016, over 2 WAR in only 244 PAs. Without exaggerating he was our best overall player in 2016 from late July until the end of the season. I wonder why some seem to assume Villar will bounce back, but also assume Broxton just is who he was last year. Broxton probably isn't long for the Brewers any more simply because we're out of room for him now, but he is someone I could easily becoming a 25/25 player with a rebuilding club if he gets a full time gig in CF. If he could cut his K rate even to 30% he could be very good. I find it hard to believe that Broxton will ever cut down his K's. The guy can't hit the ball. I'm sure there have to be at least 25-30 CF's better in the majors right now than Broxton. I don't want to see the guy on our big league squad ever again honestly. I really don't think he was very good defensively, stats aside. To put in perspective, I think I'd rather see Hernan Perez as an everyday CF than Keon Broxton. -
I respect and trust what he said, and there's no reason not to believe as it made sense for the Brewers to make that offer to Walker at that time. Anyway, personally I would still make that offer of 2/$20 to Walker now, I've absolutely no confidence in Villar bouncing back to his 2016 numbers or even close to it. Pretty gross looking offer, especially for an older 2B, no thanks. Much rather spend that money on a position of more need, which would be starting pitching. If Keston is going to be our 2B in the near future, you're shortening the window we have to spend money on free agents in the future with that contract. He isn't going to push the needle to being a contender much, if at all. I think that would be the main point for me on a 2B, are they a significant upgrade to get you deep in the playoffs? Is Walker over a Villar/Sogard, or even Perez? No, probably not I think if I'd spend some money on a position player, I think I'd rather see if there are some decent back up catchers out there, because Bandy was just awful last year
-
Well, someone is gonna have to go. They bought a lottery ticket with Yo and Miley, and they aren't (?) guaranteed any money unless they're on the roster as far as I know. Those two are only here to attempt to impress and earn a roster spot, their futures aren't guaranteed. I guess I'm confused as to why so many people are attempting to pencil those guys in as part of the starting rotation, especially Miley. Guerra is going to get every chance available to him to earn his spot in the rotation, possibly permanently. The guy was originally last year an opening day starter. Just take Willy Peralta for example, the Brewers gave him every chance to redeem himself, which admittedly was kind of stupid, but they're gonna let him try and earn his way into the rotation. If the Brewers weren't to sign a pitcher like Cobb or Arrieta (I hope they do), I picture their pitching staff being something like this Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff Guerra Hader Suter, as a long relief/spot start option Albers Barnes Gallardo Jeffress Williams Knebel Now that I really look at that, I guess I don't really have a huge problem with that staff, though adding a Cobb or Arrieta would bolster that staff quite significantly
-
Shut down bullpen guys are not that rare, and not even in the realm of being close to the value of a TOR pitcher. Trading Knebel would net you basically a couple of mid level prospects. No The reason Hader is on the no trade possibility list is because he has potential to become a starter at the big league level, if his stuff transitions well, thats an entirely different story than a guy like Knebel who can go 1 inning
