Filling Out the Roster

It’s 3 years 35 mill which is an absolute steal for a player of his caliber. He will cost an insane amount in trade capital -

Unless the Dodgers get Bryant or Arenado. Then that would change things -
Darren Wolfson a reporter from Minnesota said Twins and Brewers are in on Semien and a decision coming soon. I would assume the Brewers were the team asking him if he would play 3B

Burnes to White Sox rumors
baumer16 replied to IntentionalHBP's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There is a price for everyone. And when one of the few rumors we heard about the Brewers popped up about them willing to listen on SP, it’s understandable teams would call. I love Burnes, but let’s be honest he hasn’t been a model of consistency so far in his career. -

Burnes to White Sox rumors

I agree that we’re a 1B and 3B away from being really good but it’s become pretty clear that we don’t have any money. And very little prospect capital to work with. So the only options are really to buy low on a few guys and hope they turn out decent, which we did last year and it didn’t work. Or do a small rebuild and go at it next year when we have money from fans sitting in seats. It sucks but we’re a small market team and option 2 seems like the way they are thinking of going. -
I’m all for keeping Hader at this point. Teams are getting smarter and smarter and getting hauls for relievers seems like a thing of the past and definitely not something I see a smart organization like the Dodgers doing. All these deals on this post lately seem pretty underwhelming. Keeping Hader and having a dominant bullpen isn’t a bad thing. Along with a great 1-2 Starting pitcher punch. Just attempt to fix the corner positions and hope for a turn around on a whole bunch of players who played unusually bad and we’re a pretty damn good team. Watch Hader get traded today now. Lol

I don’t think the Brewers have the money to sign LaStella and Santana. I think they might could get 1 and then they will have to trade for the other spot

What is your 2020-2021 offseason plan for the Brewers?
baumer16 replied to Vollbc74's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
They were working on the contract for months. The entire world shut down including sports. And then when it returned they weren’t allowed to have fans. There was no way the Brewers could have foreseen this coming. No one did. Including 99% of all politicians. -

The Brewers are in a tough position with Hader. They’re in a budget crunch but also need help at multiple positions with little prospect capital and a win now mindset. Never say never but I just don’t see them trading him unless Brewers do a mini rebuild And as much as I love Hader you’re not getting Bohm for him. You don’t trade the 3rd pick in the draft who is already showing possible star potential for a reliever. Regardless of how good the reliever is. -
Trade with Rockies for 3B help...

I’m not sure Murphy is much of an upgrade over Gyorko at this point -
First off Trout is locked in until 38 at 35-36 million dollars a year. He's THE player but the value there is pretty well paid for in full. I mean what do you think his worth is 40 mil per, 50 mil per? You have to put his value pretty high to make him a valuable contract. Hader's underpaid and looking to a guy in years 35-38 is murky so negative value could swing back on the gains Trout makes in the present. Hader doesn't get there. Betts is also in that same territory so I don't see those as good examples. If you are asking if Trout make a bigger impact than Hader. Yes, significantly. He's the best player in baseball. (He's better than Yelich but I certainly wouldn't trade Yelich for Trout due to their contract value.) I'm saying that any player who is considered equal trade value to Hader on the field will not make the same impact as Hader. I'm saying that the SP prospect you get for Hader is going to effect the team era less than Hader and in a lower leverage position. Trade value for Hader will not match his worth or impact. If you get fair, you lose the deal. If you get a significant gain in value you'll likely still lose the deal. You need something bordering on stupid for the price to be worth considering. I believe the DS is willing to trade Hader rumors are cannon fodder. I don't think he's even considering it. I think we got a heck of a player and the media of other teams want him so they are making garbage up. Oh the Brewers are poor they can't afford his arby increasing, better be the lowly team that you are and sell him off to a real contender. That garbage. DS kicks every tire and turns over every stone. He's not dealing Hader, but he's smart enough to listen to people talk because the more they talk the more information they give up. Basically, we got the hot GF and everyone's looking. They might talk, they might try, it ain't happening. People talk, trolls troll, reporters chase and rumors about nothing pop up. He's tied to Yelich Hiura and Woodruff. "Cause everyday stars are far more valuable than a reliever who pitches one pitch 95% of the time and averages less than 1 inning every other day." Now I get it. You expect him to fail. Ok. As for Cory Seager 2 years Arby 2 and 3. Pass. I don’t expect him to fail. But with a position that is historically as volatile as RP you better damn sure believe the Brewers have thought about it. So along with that, and just the overall value of a RP is probably why Stearns has floated the idea of trading him to upgrade other positions. And it’s not just a media made up frenzy. Cause if the media really wanted to make something up to get attention they can just have Heyman tweet,”Brewers willing to trade Yelich.” And just watch the baseball media world explode on twitter and various sites. I would imagine this site would have a 6 page thread on it within an hour. And saying that no matter who you trade Hader for it won’t match Haders value is so completely ridiculous it’s not worth responding to.

Respectfully, no. Hader is as important as it gets. Whatever his trade value is approximated at, MKE would be worse off dealing him 1 for 1 for an equal trade value OF 3b SS etc. All those bats of equal trade value would have less impact than Hader. Any SP who has equal trade value to Hader pitches in lower leverage situations and would have less impact. It's a question of value and worth. His worth far exceeds his value and you only deal him if you aren't planning to win. Guys who can pull down the team ERA are insanely valuable. It's what makes Cole get 300+ mil. He covers a lot of sins and as MKE has shown 4.0 ERA guys are easy to find. Its the guys who drag that ERA down from 4 that make or break your team. As I pointed out. Hader alone dropped the pen ERA by 0.22. That's covering a lot of sins and you don't fix that with a bat because a bat can't end a game whenever an advantage is in place. "It's about improving the run differential in the aggregate among all 26 players on the roster." You will not make up that difference and impact. It's not as easy as you are making it out to be. It's much easier to manufacture above league average totals at a position than you believe. The gains you assume your gaining aren't as significant as you dream up. The loss of Hader would be dramatic. It would turn wins into loses. There's absolutely no way to manufacture that and the rules of the league made it even harder to do. If we can find a GM that values Hader to the extent that you do, we should trade him to that guy immediately. Again completely disagree. That's covering a lot of sins and you don't fix that with a bat because a bat can't end a game whenever an advantage is in place So by that logic Hader is more valuable then say Mike Trout, Mookie Betts cause he can end a game and they can't? Thats absolutely ridiculous. Let me ask you this, I would assume we both agree that Stearns is a really smart guy correct? Well why do you think he's willing to trade Hader and not say Yelich or Hiura? Why are we hearing all these rumors about Hader when if we really want to score a massive deal we would get more for either of those other two. Cause they're not available. Cause everyday stars are far more valuable than a reliever who pitches one pitch 95% of the time and averages less than 1 inning every other day. Like I said all stars are not created equal. And this one for one probably isn't happening cause from what's being said Stearns wants a haul. Unless it was for someone like Cory Seagar who I don't know how long he's under contract for but even he would make us better if we had him over Hader.

Disagree. All stars don’t carry equal weight. Hader is a RP Star. That doesn’t carry nearly the weight a star OF would. I think we can agree on that. So just saying you don’t trade stars cause you want to win, well that just depends. Lot of variables with that. Hader pitched 75 innings last year, granted they were important innings, but trading him for an 150 game young middle of the lineup hitter and a middle of the rotation starter who pitches 150-175 innings brings much more value than Hader will give you. And could even possibly open up your window even more

Not even a top 100 player? They barely got a top 100 pick and Hill's an older lottery ticket. That's likely not even equal to a top 300 player. He is 30 points of OBP shy of replacing Grandal's offense and costs 15 million less this year. Will cost about 13 and 11 less the next 2 years. I'm not sure anyone can justify that difference. 30 points of OBP and pitch framing being worth 39 million over the next 3 years? I guess I don't understand what big is because that was a huge get. Unless the bar for big has been set at Yelich, then big = nearly impossible. I'm sorry but Hader is not the trade chip. I've been around here for years and constantly people are whining about wanting elite arms and crying about never home growing anything out of the farm. Now that we have one of the most dominant arms in baseball, people are ready to sign him over because of a host of excuses. They want 30 million thrown at a starter but grumble about Hader's arby. It makes no sense. Hader is 25. His numbers have been sensational every year. His BB/9 went down. His K/9 went up. Yeah HRs went up for him, like everyone else. He's been solid as a rock yearly. The RPs who are volatile are the average ones. He's not one of those. This talk has been bonkers and I feel like I'm one of the few who remembers Hader in games that weren't the playoff loss to Washington. There's a reason why people think they can get a ton for him. It's because he's worth it and MKE won't be able to replace the massive hole that will leave in the pen. A place where this team has stolen wins for the past 2 years. You keep bringing up his offensive stats which are great I understand and then leaving out the fact that he might be the worst defensive catcher in the league. That will have an impact on our pitching. I hope the Brewers saw something that they can fix but his D is so bad that the Mariners and the rest of the league were like we don’t even care how good he is offensively he is an absolute disaster defensively so basically you can take him for almost nothing. Think about that for a minute. And I’m hoping the Brewers can fix him somehow but being that bad probably makes him a part time player. And getting a part time player isn’t a “big” move in my book. And having an elite RP like Hader is great but again Stearns probably views this as a luxury and if he could flip that for a young cost controlled middle of the order bat that will play 150 games a year along with a possible mid rotation starter who can pitch 150-175 a year that will far exceed the value of Hader.

Good lord, what is with people here. MKE doesn't need to trade Hader or Hiura to pull off a big move. Narvaez was a big move. He was had for a comp pick and Hill. Burnes Peralta Turang Lutz Ashby Feliciano Rasmussen Small Kelly Ashby surely and individually have more value than what we gave up for Narvaez. What is with the defeatist attitudes around here where posters think the Brewers have to give away their superstars to make anything big happen. You buy into the east coast everything in the Yankee's system is gold garbage or something? You are resigned to believe MKE is nothing but a feeder team for the spending giants? Brinson Diaz Harrison Yamamoto got the MVP. Brinson was concerning at that time and Diaz had fallen out of the top 100. Harrison was on a 1 year wonder. Grisham on a 1 year wonder got 2017 and 2018 top 50 Urias. You don't deal Yelich, Hiura, Woodruff or Hader. You don't and you can add something pretty significant, some might even say BIG, to this team without dealing away the biggest impact players on the MLB team. Maybe you scorched earth the farm in the process but the goal is to add too the top assets. Not trade them away. This isn't a rebuild team. I guess it depends on what your definition of big move is but I would say Narvaez was definitely not a “big” move. He’s a great offensive catcher but he is absolutely atrocious defensively. Which is why Seattle was willing to give him up for not even a top 100 prospect even though he has three more years of control. And I think in order to get a young significant impact bat a Hader trade is your best option. And I think Stearns knows that even though Hader is amazing, he’s a reliever, and they can be volatile. And if you can get a young cost controlled impact middle of the order bat for him, you take it.

Well I think I read if the Twins sign Donaldson Sano would move to 1st
-
With Stearns saying yesterday that trades would be the most likely roster upgrade I wonder if Atlanta is the one targeting Hader. And they are just waiting on the Donaldson decision. Cause if he goes to Atlanta they have a few 3b options to give up and a boat load of young pitching prospects. They line up pretty well with our needs.

What makes the Hader trade difficult is that the Brewers arent rebuilding. So getting the best possible prospects probably isn’t an option. If it were then they might as well trade Yelich as well and do a full rebuild. They need to trade him to someone who’s willing to give up a possible young mlb player that can come in and contribute right away. There aren’t a lot of teams that have that luxury. Which is why a Hader for Andujar trade always made the most sense. Or Dodgers with Lux but I highly doubt they would give him up for Hader. Also the Mets are trying to win now. They will use Smith to try and get an MLB piece to add to their roster. I’m not sure the Brewers have anything to give them, besides Hader, that doesn’t hurt our chances of contention as well. And obviously we would want a lot more for Hader which they wouldn’t be willing to give cause then it hurts their chances to compete.

You opine Hader (& Arcia) are worth more than Merrifield and Montgomery, that’s fair, but the Brewers actually save about 600K in 2020 in the deal based on arby estimates. Hader @ 4.6m, Montgomery @ 1.2m. Merrifield will make 5m and Arcia will make 2.2m. Ill admit it was late response and I actually thought montgomery played for the Royals. On the money end Merrifield has built in money triggers that will add to his expense. Or if he doesn't, you got poor results from him and the headliner on your return was junk. Montgomery after some digging, is Hader like, being a Super 2. 1/4 the cost/equal control. This is sorta like on the good results of the trade, the Brewers are paying 2players for what Hader alone would cost them. But if either of those two arent good you save money, but the team is worse overall for the same time frame as just keeping Hader. Yankees did pay more value but still underwhelming. Anyway, a blurb on Andujar via MLBTR was that the Yankees believe he'll be ready to go come Spring Training. Again he is such a risk not only on even if his 2018 performance was the real deal, but is he even going to be healthy to start the 2020 season? What GM is going to trade for him before the 2020 season? I mean maybe for Arcia at the moment because he's likely about to spend the 2020 season in the minors or waived. I think a lot of GM’s would be willing to trade for him now. He was runner up for rookie of the year and a possible star middle of the order bat controlled for 4 more years. His defense is lacking but that can be improved or he can be moved to 1b. You dont trade that for a minimal return and you definitely wouldn’t trade that straight up for Arcia

Based on what? This has been erroneously stated in this thread multiple times. There are no legitimate sources saying we are possibly looking to trade Hader. There are reputable sources saying Stearns is "willing to listen" on him, just as Stearns has been reported to be willing to listen on any single one of our players over the course of his tenure. Its his M.O. and that is a good thing. Doesn't mean we are looking to trade him, and certainly doesn't mean we are looking to trade him for Yankee spare parts like these anonymous twitter accounts would like their followers (and members of this forum) to think. What’s the difference between possibly looking to trade Hader and “willing to listen?” Also if he’s willing to listen on any player like you say how come we haven’t heard anything about teams trying to trade for Yelich? Cause that seems like someone teams would love to trade for. Point is there is a lot of smoke here in regards to Hader. Including Heyman even mentioning it. That doesn’t mean it will happen and we don’t need to believe a lot of these random Twitter people but to me it seems like something is indeed going on. We shall see
-
Hmm ... not sure where Frazier would fit given the current makeup of the team. Not sure I believe this one. That was my initial reaction too. But Stearns is an outside the box thinker. He’s the one GM where you’re never completely sure what he’s going to do until it’s all done. Would he go and flip Frazier?
