2024 Minor League Transaction Thread
Ro Mueller replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
RHP Luis Guevara released by DSL Brewers-1 -
Transactions: RHP Logan Henderson promoted to AAA Nashville from AA Biloxi RHP Manuel Rodriguez placed on Low-A Carolina’s 7-day injured list RHP James Meeker placed on Development List by AAA Nashville RHP Nolan Blackwood released by AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 3, Indianapolis 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Capra's Blasts Lift Sounds Past Indianapolis The linked game report covers the key details extremely well, with RHP Chad Patrick (5 IP, 1 UER, 6 Ks), SS Vinny Capra (2-for-3, 2 HR, HBP, 3 RBIs) and RHP Taylor Clarke (4 IP, 0 R) doing the heavy lifting to give Nashville a 2-1 home series lead. Neither GameDay nor Indianapolis could figure out what Clarke was throwing, registering most of his pitches as changeups as he retired 12 of 13 batters (94.3mph peak velocity). Sounds’ Extras: The teams combined to produce just 9 hits, 4 walks and an HBP in the 2-hour contest in front of 5,661 fans. Sounds’ players not mentioned in the game report combined to go 0-for-18 with a walk. Tyler Black (2-for-4, double) has been alternating between third base and first base for his past 6 games, while Isaac Collins got a turn in center field. Friday’s outlook: Get excited! Rapidly-ascending 22-year old RHP Logan Henderson makes his AAA debut, undoubtedly looking to repeat the dominance of Patrick and Clarke. The fourth round draft pick in 2021 made 2 starts at High-A Wisconsin and 9 with AA Biloxi, so now readies for this next challenge. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Montgomery 10, Biloxi 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers Fall, 10-3, to Biscuits on Thursday Night Despite the first 11 Shucker hitters being retired in order, they were in the game until a blow-up 6th inning, taking a 3-1 lead in the 4th and tied 3-3 before RHP Tyler Woessner entered for that 6th frame. Woessner threw 30 pitches before exiting in connection with an ominously-written “injury delay”. Hopefully I’m blowing it out of proportion and it was just a mound discussion after 6 of 8 batters reached against him (one via strikeout wild pitch). Four days after his start was interrupted by rain after just 7 pitches, LHP Adam Seminaris had a respectable outing (62 pitches, 42 strikes), allowing a solo homer, 4 singles and no walks, while striking out 4 in 3 2/3 innings. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. (1-for-3, 2 RBIs, 17th stolen base) is in his 8th minor league season (including the Covid year), but is just over 25 years old and keeps producing at an excellent clip offensively and defensively for the organization. Shuckers’ Extras: Of course, being close on the scoreboard through 5 ½ innings doesn’t necessarily mean Biloxi was truly deserving to be in it, as they were ultimately out-hit 13-1, while drawing 3 walks vs. 14 strikeouts. Down 9-3 in the 8th inning, frustration boiled a bit as OF Lamar Sparks and hitting coach JJ Reimer were ejected after Sparks grounded out. LHP Russell Smith (2 1/3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K) handled the late innings, with 45 pitches being the second most he’s thrown in 2024. Friday’s outlook: 23-year old LHP Tate Kuehner makes his second AA start, with Biloxi needing a victory to even their road series 2-2. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Quad Cities 9, Wisconsin 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Wild Night for Wisconsin in 9-3 Loss Per the excellent game write-up, 6’7” starting LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (4 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 Ks) used timely strikeouts to work around traffic, while the Timber Rattlers’ offense woke up in the 6th inning to make a game of it at 3-2. However, 3 walks and 2 wild pitches from RHP Yerlin Rodriguez (2 IP, 3 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 3 WP, 4 Ks) to start the bottom of the 6th inning quickly restored Quad Cities’ 3-run advantage. Searching for positives in a tough week thus far, we of course have 3B Eduardo Garcia’s solo homer, along with DH Luke Adams and right fielder Jose Acosta both reaching twice (single, walk). Adams’ RBI single had cut the deficit to 3-2, while center fielder Luis Lara stole his 34th base of 2024. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Similar to the Shuckers’ game, the final score could have been even worse, as the River Bandits went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, stranding 11. Fitzpatrick threw 80 pitches, Rodriguez 48 in relief and RHP Bayden Root an additional 48, as Manager Victor Estevez is understandably attempting to save other arms for the remaining three games of the week. Friday’s outlook: Wisconsin looks to RHP Will Rudy (4.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 83 1/3 IP) to lead the comeback, with the team presently down 3 games to 0 in their series at Davenport, Iowa. Postponed: Carolina vs. Fredericksburg Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, rainout details: Mudcats and Nationals Postponed Thursday The rainout will be made up via a doubleheader on Saturday. Carolina and Fredericksburg are presently tied 1-1 in this week’s road series. Friday’s outlook: 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth (4.37 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 10.3 K/9 in 70 IP) is the scheduled starter, one day before his 19th birthday. Knoth will be looking for a solid bounce-back game after struggling last week (4 IP, 5 ER, 6 H). Final: DSL Brewers Uno 17, DSL LAD Bautista 10 Box Score and Game Log Two touchdowns in the first 4 innings gave Brewers Uno a 14-0 lead, with starting LHP Wande Torres also dominating over 2 2/3 shutout pitchers innings (0 H, 2 BB, 5 Ks). LAD Bautista battled back with a touchdown and 2-point conversion (all 8 runs earned off of RHP Carlos Canales) to make it a 14-8 game by the 6th inning, but never got much closer. The Big 3 of 2B Jesus Made (triple, double), SS Luis Pena (double, SB) and Juan Ortuno (3-run homer) combined for 7 hits and an amazing 12 RBIs, sending each of their season OPS’ into the stratosphere. Coupled with Orioles Orange’s default, the Uno Crew are just a 1/2 game out of first place with about 2 weeks to go. One minor blemish was the 2 errors committed by Pena. Final: DSL Pirates Gold 6, DSL Brewers Dos 4 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log Technically a continuation of their July 2 contest which had only covered a scoreless half-inning, Team Dos dominated in most respects (e.g. 14-6 in hits) on Thursday, but went 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14 baserunners in a tough defeat. SS Jorge Polanco reached base 5 times (triple, 2 singles, walk, HBP; .763 OPS), while 2B Roderick Flores (.801 OPS) singled 3 times to go with an RBI and stolen base. Starting RHP Josue Toledo (3 IP, 3 H, 5 BB, 3 WP, 1 K) allowed 8 of 15 batters to reach base, but only 2 scored before RHP Argenis Aparicio (4 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) dominated over 4 shutout innings. RHP Paul Hoff (2 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 3 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 3 WP, 2 Ks) unfortunately struggled. Three wild pitches and a walk to start the 10th might have been signs that he should be pulled, but instead he allowed 2 more singles before exiting with nobody out (3 runs scored). Flores and Polanco both singled with 2 outs in the 10th to bring up the potential game-winning run, but pinch hitter Eduardo Charles struck out looking to end it. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Friday, the DSL squads square off against Red Sox Blue and Red at 10:00am CST, while the four full season affiliates will be in action in the evening. The Milwaukee Brewers return home to take on the Reds at 7:10pm. Vinny Capra blasted two homers to support Chad Patrick’s excellent pitching in Nashville’s win. Biloxi and Wisconsin struggled many ways in their losses. Thurs. 8/8 - Will 8/8 be Crazy?

I’m hoping: - the Fantastic 4 (including Anderson) stay healthy - the 2 most advanced start 2025 with Carolina - at least 1 of the other 2 joins them by June - they rock the Carolina League -
Brewers (Montas) vs Braves (Morton): 8/8/24, 11:20am
Ro Mueller replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
I never expected this much offense from the team in 2024. Contreras and Adames, sure. Mitchell? Ortiz? Chourio? Never. No wonder Yelich is praying he can somehow make it back this season. -

Made, Pena and Ortuno with 10 RBIs between them in one game. 😁😁😁 I think we may need to organize a special trip to Zebulon next year. -
Nah, CF-Rod's first MLB start was leaked on June 7th and the actual start was on June 11th, with Patrick throwing in between on June 9th. I think they figured CF-Rod would benefit from MLB exposure, similar to Chourio in April/May. Some speculated that CF-Rod was thought to likely perform strongly in MLB without the constraints of the automatic-ball strike system used in AAA. Others figured CF-Rod was riding a hot streak (May Pitcher of the Month). I just figured he'd struggle (as would Patrick, probably) and it wouldn't be worth the risk of burning his first minor league option year.
-
The deluge of Minor League roster cutting continues into a 3rd week, as Major League teams strive to get their stateside MILB rosters down to the maximum 165-player cap (excluding long-term injuries): - August 5 - 37 releases - August 6 - 25 releases - August 7 - 17 releases (including 1 Brewer) - August 8 - 16 releases - August 9 - 8 releases - August 10 - 6 releases (including 1 Brewer) - August 11 - 5 releases That's now 396 players released over the past 3 weeks.
-
Statcast AAA data seems to suggest Patrick is not quite special enough (xwOBA): - CF-Rod: .274 - Keuchel: .285 - Boushley: .286 - Patrick: .292 - McKendry: .296 - Cueto: .304 - Pannone: .305 - Lauer: .314 - Alexander: .315 - Clarke: .315 - Plesac: .331 - Espino: .332 - Stallings: .336 - Ashby: .349 - Woessner: .357 - Lamet: .362 - Teheran: .374 That said, I still wish we’d given Patrick the call ahead of CF Rodriguez earlier in the year. Both are high floor, low ceiling guys. I didn’t see the point of burning CF-Rod’s first minor league option year at age 22.

2024 Non-Drafted Player Signings
Ro Mueller replied to Ro Mueller's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Most of us took note of the signing of Prince Fielder's son Jadyn Fielder, a 19-year old infielder out of TNXL Academy. In fact, BrewerFanatics' Seth Stohs wrote an article about it. As did JR Radcliffe of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. And Theo DeRosa of MLB.com. -
This thread is intended to cover the signing of non-drafted players who are now free agents. In 2023, I recall at least 6 such signings: KC Hunt, Isaiah Jackson, Blake Whiting, Bayden Root, Harrison Durow and Alejandro Rodriguez,

For the week, Biloxi (4-1) and Carolina (4-2) were series winners, while Nashville and Wisconsin both managed 3-3 draws. Transactions: RHP Bryan Rivera promoted to Low-A Carolina from ACL Brewers LHP Bryan Hudson sent on rehab assignment to AAA Nashville Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 6, Gwinnett 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Scrappy Offense Drives Sounds to Series Split With Stripers 22-year old starting RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 6 Ks) made his second start of the week and showed again why the organization thinks so highly of him, keeping the Stripers hitless through 3 innings and escaping a 2-on, nobody out jam in the 5th inning. As detailed in the game report, C Francisco Mejia (2-run homer for 2-0 lead) and RF Brewer Hicklen (2-out RBI single for a 4-2 lead in the 7th inning) were key contributors, along with 3B Patrick Dorrian (2-for-3, sac fly) and left fielder Isaac Collins (2-for-5, RBI). Hicklen started the 6th inning with a full count HBP, eventually leading to a run (after a pickle play) for a 3-2 advantage. Mejia’s throwing error allowed a run to score in the bottom of the 7th inning, but three batters later he held onto a foul tip for a key strikeout with 2-on and the game 4-3. Sounds’ Extras: Do the Milwaukee Brewers need some bullpen help? There’s this Bryan Hudson chap who looks like he may have some potential. In his first rehab inning, Hudson threw 19 pitches in the 7th inning (though only 9 for strikes): 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K. His fastball topped out at 92.1mph. Hicklen (2-for-2, 2 walks, HBP, 2 SBs; season OPS .920) reached base all 5 times and now has 35 stolen bases on the season to go with his 19 home runs. Will he have to wait until September for a call-up? Will there be room for him even then, given that Tyler Black is also looking at that extra MLB roster spot? Next week’s outlook: LHP DL Hall is scheduled for another rehab start on Tuesday, with Nashville coming home to face Pirates’ affiliate Indianapolis. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Suspended: Biloxi 0, Rocket City 0 (in top of the first inning) Box Score and Game Log The teams are to resume play in this game as part of a doubleheader at Rocket City in the first week of September. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi heads to Montgomery, Alabama to battle the Rays’ affiliate this week. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 15, South Bend 12 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Wisconsin Outslugs & Outlasts South Bend for Series Split Before we get into extra game tidbits, grab some popcorn and enjoy the detailed video highlights put together by the Timber Rattlers’ media team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g33JtvYDhUw And there’s also the 22-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast, featuring comments from Manager Estevez and homering hero C Ramon Rodriguez. From the podcast, I’m sure we’re all relieved to hear the Manager say that SS Cooper Pratt (who exited at the start of the 3rd inning) is okay and will likely be available for Tuesday’s game. Call it a precautionary exit after an HBP and fielding collision. Being down 5-1 (3rd inning) and 7-4 (6th inning) never fazed the Timber Rattlers. Utility man Jheremy Vargas started the 6th inning rally with a single, but it was center fielder Luis Lara and left fielder Felix Valerio who drew 2-out walks to set up 2B Jadher Areinamo’s full count 3-run homer for an 8-7 lead. A rare INF Eduardo Garcia walk preceded C Ramon Rodriguez’s clutch 2-run shot for a 10-8 advantage in the 7th inning, which ultimately held up thanks to five more runs coming across in the bottom of the 8th inning. Garcia also homered and had 4 RBIs, one of many offensive players to fill the stat sheet. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: The offense stepped up in support of a pitching staff which at least on paper appeared stretched. RHP Alexander Cornielle (4 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 3 BB, 1 K) was making his second start of the week, while relievers Jeferson Figueroa (2 IP, 1 R) Aaron Rund (1 2/3 IP, 3 R) and Bayden Root (single, walk, fly out to end the game) all threw both Friday and Sunday. Will some pitching reinforcements (e.g. recent draft picks) be coming by Tuesday? Areinamo’s two throwing errors were uncharacteristic for the exceptional fielder, but understandable given that it was his first field action in 10 days. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin hits the road to take on Royals’ affiliate Quad Cities this week, starting from Tuesday. Game One (Continuation) Final: Carolina 10, Charleston 5 Box Score and Game Log Game Two Final: Carolina 4, Charleston 3 (in 8 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Sweep Doubleheader, Win Series Carolina and Charleston resumed Saturday’s rain-delayed game with the Mudcats trailing 2-1 with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 4th inning. Facing a new pitcher, Juan Baez (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs) greeted him with a double, the first of 6 consecutive batters to reach base in that same 4th inning, giving Carolina a 4-2 advantage at that point. 21-year old RHP Ryan Birchard (3rd appearance for Carolina) took the mound to start the 5th inning. A walk and double didn’t hurt him in that frame, but cost him 2 runs in the next for a 4-4 ballgame. Right fielder Luis Castillo walked and SS Daniel Guilarte singled to start a 4-run bottom of the 6th inning, with center fielder Yophery Rodriguez contributing a 2-run single for an 8-4 lead which held up. After a tough extra inning loss on Friday, the Mudcats’ offense wasn’t about to allow a repeat in the night cap on Sunday. Outhitting the RiverDogs 11-3, but down 3-2 in extra innings, Reidy Mercado (walk) and Miguel Briceno (2-run single) came through to finish off the doubleheader sweep. In the that second game, Birthday Man (now 22) RHP Josh Timmerman didn’t allow a hit through 4 innings, but 2 walks, a wild pitch and a double steal had the team behind 1-0 before right-fielder Luis Castillo’s 15th homer (4th inning) and 2B Filippo Di Turi’s 2-out RBI single (5th inning). Is there an 18-year old with more confidence in his stroke than this?: Mudcats’ Extras: The late heroics in the second game were necessary after Guilarte was thrown out at home to end the 6th inning and the Mudcats stranded the bases loaded in the 7th inning. Kudos to 19-year old Rivera from Nicaragua with his full season affiliate debut, covering the 7th and 8th innings of the first game of the day: 2 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K. Birchard added an HBP and 3 wild pitches as he attempts to regain his form after an injury suffered in early April. Next week’s outlook: Carolina travels to face Nationals’ affiliate Fredericksburg. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, DSL Brewers-1 (26-14) is the only Brewers’ minor league team in action (hosting 29-13 DSL CLE Goryl) at 10:00am CST. The Milwaukee Brewers also have a day off to rest and recuperate before their series in Atlanta. We’ve got one more game tonight. AA Biloxi leads their home series against Rocket City 4 games to 1. LHP Adam Seminaris (4.10 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 48.1 IP) makes his 3rd start (18th appearance) of 2024. 3B Mike Boeve has 6 hits, 2 HRs and 6 RBIs over his last 2 games. -

After wearing down Rund and sweating it out with Root, I've got to believe this is the straw which breaks the camel's back. Wisconsin has 14 healthy pitchers, despite having a 30-man roster limit. Carolina also has just 14 healthy pitchers, despite the 30-man roster limit. Assuming they're healthy, I hope we see RHP Jason Woodward (2023 4th round pick), LHP Mason Molina (2024 7th round pick), RHP Rafael Garcia and LHP Jesus Broca assigned to full season affiliates by Tuesday. -

Might as well replace Frelick with Black and Hicklen. Black will probably hit better at the Major League level than both of them - great eye, hitting the ball a bit harder recently. Pitching will just be the usual Injured List-to-Rehab-to-MLB pipeline. We've got Hall, Bukauskas, Hudson, Paredes, Zastryzny and Megill on that path now. -
