  1. Nashville is in Memphis this week to take on the Cardinals’ affiliate. RHP Taylor Clarke is today’s starter (expect ~30 pitches with possibly LHP Nick Bennett as long-man) and RF Joey Wiemer sees his first AAA action since being optioned by the Brewers.
  2. Mudcats give up a homer and an unearned run in the top of the 1st inning. Better shape up!
  3. High-A Wisconsin welcomes Padres’ affiliate Fort Wayne this week, with 21-year old RHP Patricio Aquino (4.99 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 5.3 K/9 in 30.2 IP) toeing the rubber tonight. 2B Jadher Areinamo had 3 hits and 4 RBIs Sunday to push his hit streak to 8 games.
  4. AA Biloxi won’t get swept at home for a 2nd straight week. They host Marlins’ affiliate Pensacola this week, with LHP Nate Peterson (4.14 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 37 IP) starting tonight. DH Brock Wilken has a 7-game hitting streak.
  5. The Mudcats host Orioles’ low-A affiliate Delmarva this week, with 18-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguez (4.04 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 8.3 K/9 in 35.2 IP) making his 8th start. CF Yophery Rodriguez is in right back in the lineup after exiting Sunday’s game early.
  6. - OF Luis Lara placed on High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list on May 25 - OF Angel Pereira placed on ACL Brewers’ 7-day injured list on May 25
  7. OF Christopher Vasquez released by DSL-Brewers2 Vasquez (now 18) signed in August 2022 out of the Dominican Republic, homering in his DSL debut in June 10, 2023 and in 2 of the next 4 games he played. For the season, he produced an OPS of .859 with 5 HRs and 19 RBIs in 26 games played. However, this also came with a .203 batting average, 36 Ks in 92 PAs and no stolen bases. All 117 innings he played were in right field. We hope Christopher is healthy and this release comes in time to help him land with another club before the 2024 DSL season commences next week, if that's his objective.
  8. The teams were a combined 0-for-18 with RISP, with 21 left on base and all 7 runs scoring without the benefit of an RBI hit. This year’s ACL box scores are looking a bit more like the DSL. Eric Martinez was likely our sole healthy bench bat. I’m impressed we’ve gotten back to a record of 7-10. It looked bleaker than that. Players are stepping up.
  9. That’s a lot of output in just a few days, Jim. Thanks and great job! Hoping for better overall results this upcoming week, our last before the DSL gents start their season.
  10. Nashville gave up 3 unearned runs on 3 errors, then stranded 6 baserunners over the final 2 innings. They lose 4-3.
  11. Tough luck for Woessner then - 2 unearned runs. Black (and Hicklen had an error in right) will need to make it up offensively.
  12. Which plays should he have made?
  13. RHP Bradley Blalock (2.27 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 7.3 K/9 in 35.2 IP) makes his first appearance in 11 days, hoping to help Biloxi end their 5-game losing streak at home against Birmingham. 3B Brock Wilken has a 6-game hitting streak.
  14. Quite a choice to follow Jesus Rivero with Cristofher Carrasco in the 7th inning. The Mudcats’ entered the inning leading 5-2 and left it trailing 8-5. They ultimately lost 8-7 and split the series this week. Shoot! Luis Castillo hit 2 solo homers. We’ll await word (if any) on Yophery Rodriguez’s status, as he exited early.
  15. High-A Wisconsin looks to end a rough week in South Bend on a positive note. 22-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle has an 18-inning scoreless streak with 17 Ks. SS Jadher Areinamo has a 7-game hitting streak.
  16. 24-year old RHP Tyler Woessner has had mixed results since the promotion to AAA, but gets a chance to finish off Nashville’s 6-0 home sweep of Charlotte. Of the players with the top 100 PAs in the International League, RF Brewer Hicklen’s .989 OPS ranked 6th.
  17. Hmmm. CF Yophery Rodriguez caught a fly ball in the top of the 4th inning and he’s now replaced in the bottom half. I doubt this was planned.
  18. Good start for the Mudcats. Juan Baez smacked his first homer of the year (solo shot). Yhoswar Garcia has 3 stolen bases, a single, RBI and run scored thru 3 innings. Josh Timmerman hasn’t been that sharp, but has stranded 5 baserunners. Carolina 3, Myrtle Beach 0 in the 4th inning.
  19. A 3rd straight home win over Myrtle Beach would give Low-A Carolina a 4-2 series win. 21-year old RHP Josh Timmerman makes his 7th appearance (5th start) - 4.24 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 11.6 K/9 in 23.1 IP. Team AVG and OPS leader LF Yhoswar Garcia returns to the lineup after a day off.
  20. For what it's worth (nothing?), I'm more disappointed by Logan Henderson being charged with a loss for issuing a 2-out walk. I thought the scorekeeper had some discretion to pin that on Tyler Wehrle for letting that runner score along with giving up 4 other earned runs in 0.1 IP.
  21. With all the forum commentary on Ashby, Uribe and Roller, I thought that maybe Brewer Hicklen had had a quiet game. Nope. 2 hard hit doubles. Drew a 7-pitch walk immediately before Roller’s walk-off blast. Had an 88mph groundout. It’s time.
  22. Biloxi faces a 20-year old making his AA debut: Noah Schultz. Noah’s a 6’9” LHP who was the 26th overall draft pick in 2022, signing for $2.8 million.
  23. Nightmare game for Yujanyer Herrera (9 runs (7 earned) in 3 innings), but the man threw strikes: 40 in 58 pitches. No walks. One HBP. 8 singles. 1 double. Zero triples or homers. Hopefully he’s able to maintain confidence and come back strong next outing. No shame in what happened today. Timber Rattlers trail 13-1.
