  1. The Sounds pour it on in the top of the 5th inning, adding 3 runs on 2 doubles (Collins' second of the game, Vinny Capra's first extra-base hit of the season). It's 9-0 and RHP Blake Holub comes in for his 2nd appearance of the season.
  2. Myers' control started to escape him in that 4th inning, then he issued a walk to Ryan Vilade to open the bottom of the 5th after getting ahead with an 0-2 count. So that's all for Myers today (4 innings, 0 runs but responsible for Vilade), yielding to newcomer 29-year old RHP Nolan Blackwood, who produced a 4.75 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 6.7 K/9 for Seattle's AAA squad last year in the hitter-friendly PCL and was Mexican League bound this offseason before inking a minor league contract with the Crew in late February.
  3. After Myers works around a walk and 2 singles to put up another Zero in the 3rd inning (aided by a GIDP and another ground ball out), the Sounds post a 4-run 4th inning, chasing Mud Hens' starter Brant Hurter via 2 walks and an RBI single (Patrick Dorrian), then greeting the reliever with consecutive RBI doubles (Isaac Collins and Nick Kahle). 6-0 Sounds, still in the 4th inning.
  4. Myers worked himself out of 2-on, nobody out trouble in the 2nd inning: ground out, K on fastball up in the zone, ground out. Touched 95mph on the radar gun.
  5. Tobias Myers off to a nice 3-up, 3-down start, needing only 12 pitches in the 1st inning.
  6. Nashville grabs 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning; the first without needing a hit (2 walks, 2 groundouts), then RF Brewer Hicklen smashes a triple to center for the second run. Go Sounds!
  7. Sometimes we just want to throw a minor thought out here - imaginary trade, waiver claim, etc. Here’s one: assuming we lose C Eric Haase in the coming days and C Jeferson Quero for an extended period of time, we may wish to pick up C Ali Sanchez (now a free agent) on a minor league deal or claim switch-hitting OF/C Cooper Hummel off DFA waivers (with one option year remaining) for high minors catching depth.
  8. The manager is sitting one game, today.
  9. 25-year old RHP Tobias Myers makes his first AAA start since September 2022 after spending most of last season back in AA ball. He leads a Sounds team seeking to avoid a 3-game road sweep in Toledo. 2B Isaac Collins and C Nick Kahle make their first starts of 2024, while Tyler Black continues to mysteriously only DH.
  10. Hall was also a bit unlucky with some calls. Glad we held on for the win.
  11. Justin Wilson has made it all the way back. Congrats to him.
  12. Here are 21-year old 6'4" RHP Josh Timmerman (16th round pick in 2023) and 19-year old 6'3" LHP Bjorn Johnson (12th round pick in 2023) getting starts in Minor League Spring Training. C Ramon Rodriguez's absence signals to me that he's probably headed to Nashville as additional depth.
  13. If the MILB pitch readings are correct, McKendry struggled with his cutter (HR, 2B, several balls, no whiffs), but was otherwise effective with his fastball (3 whiffs), sweeper (4 whiffs) and a lot of changeups (9 whiffs - many by Keston). There were also some sinkers mixed in.
  14. RHP Cameron Wagoner placed on High-A Wisconsin's full-season injured list RHP Tanner Shears placed on High-A Wisconsin's full-season injured list LHP Robert Gasser placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list INF Christian Arroyo placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list
  15. 26-year old RHP Evan McKendry (4.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8.2 K/9 in 142.1 IP last season) starts Game 2 of Nashville's 3-game series in Toledo. In the field, the team sends out the same 9 position players as played most of yesterday's Opening Day loss, including LF Brewer Hicklen who reached base 3 times.
  16. Very rough way to start the MILB season: Quero and Shears both injured, potentially both of the significant variety. Praying for a full recovery for both players.
  17. I think that that would essentially require Seattle to DFA Seby Zavala, which feels like too much effort. I believe we’re more likely to pair up with a club willing and able to option a catcher - e.g. Braves’ Chadwick Tromp (assuming he’s selected today to replace injured Sean Murphy) or Marlins’ Nick Fortes, I suspect we’ll have to accept whichever middling prospect either tosses at us or we’ll lose Haase on a straight waiver claim.
  18. These lineups are giving us some very strong, interesting clues regarding likely player placement (note: this is pure speculation), e.g.: 19-year old Luis Lara and 20-year old Dylan O'Rae likely starting the season at High-A Wisconsin(!?), leap-frogging 20-year old Luis Castillo in the process? 18-year old Yophery Rodriguez opening the season at Low-A Carolina, which could be viewed as a faster timetable (from DSL signing to full season debut) than Chourio or Lara did, although Chourio was technically younger Long-time SS Eduardo Garcia moving to outfield full-time and moving up to AA Biloxi despite his .605 OPS at High-A Wisconsin last year? 2023 second round-pick INF Mike Boeve likely opening the season at the same level he concluded last year: High-A Wisconsin 19-year old SS Gregory Barrios moving up to be the principal starting shortstop at High-A Wisconsin despite a .586 OPS at Low-A Carolina last year, with fellow 20-year INF Daniel Guilarte potentially (shockingly?) opening 2024 still at Low-A Carolina
  19. The Brewers won, Sounds lost and Quero got injured, but the day is not yet finished. Here are the Minor League Spring Training lineups, with RHP Brett Wichrowski getting his first start and RHP Yujanyer Herrera's name appearing for the first time this spring.
  20. …but it’s not meant to be as Navarreto pops out to Keston Hiura at first base. Nashville loses its season opener 4-2 despite some solid bullpen work (Herget, Middendorf, Zastryzny), multi-hit games by Hicklen, Miller and Yonny-H, and Dorrian’s solo shot. Now all eyes turn to the injury status of super-prospect C Jeferson Quero.
  21. Black singles to center field and Brian Navarreto gets his shot to play hero.
  22. Nashville’s down to their final out trailing 4-2 with nobody on, but Yonny Hernandez lays down a first pitch bunt single. Tyler Black comes to the plate looking to salvage his day.
  23. Braves’ starting catcher Sean Murphy is going on the injured list, so they move into pole position to acquire Eric Haase, I think.
