  1. Isn’t 1 WAR worth like $6 million, which would mean that Houser and Taylor are underpaid Major Leaguers? I feel cheated.
  2. Not Gary Sanchez? But seriously, this is about what most of us probably expected: plus bat (most years), negative defense that we think we can fix. Of course, if the bat doesn’t return to 2021-22 form or we can’t improve his defense, we’ll be back in the market in March or April. I’m guessing we’ll also sign another AAA-level catcher for injury depth.
  3. On Tuesday, RHP Christian Mejias contributed to Aragua's 7-3 victory over La Guaira: 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K. Tigres de Aragua presently sits in 5th place in the 8-team league in Venezuela, 1.5 games out of a playoff spot with 7 games remaining.
  4. That seems cheap for a good bat. I guess nobody really buys that Murphy’s defense can be improved. This may mean the Giants will move on from former ranked prospect RHH Joey Bart (no options remaining). Or maybe LHH Blake Sabol (3 options) is available.
  5. CF Jackson Chourio played after all, entering in the 7th inning and singling twice (2-for-2) as part of Estrellas Occidente's 9-2 victory over Estrellas Oriente. Box score. The game featured home runs by Ildemaro Vargas and Angel Reyes, along with a triple by Ronald Acuna Jr. and a 3-for-3 game from old friend Hernan Perez. Former Brewers' minor league RHP Arnaldo Hernandez also played in relief.
  6. A slow Sunday for Brewers' players across the various Latin American Winter Leagues saw only one player in action: RHP Christian Mejias - 0.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks - in Aragua's 5-0 victory over Lara (part of a doubleheader sweep)
  7. Unless I missed someone, only C Brian Navarreto was in action on Saturday: 0-for-3, HBP; threw out only basestealer - in Carolina’s 4-3 loss to RA12
  8. Friday activity: - RHP Christian Mejias - 1 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 WP - as Aragua defeated Caracas 6-4 - C Brian Navarreto was a late substitute (0-for-1) in Carolina’s 3-2 win over Mayaguez
  9. On Friday, 1B Tayden Hall hit 3 ground balls, two of which resulted in singles: 2-for-4. Unfortunately, Brisbane fell 3-0 to Perth. Box score.
  10. With Scherzer’s back surgery, what are the latest Burnes 2024 odds?: - Rangers - 25% - Orioles - 25% - Brewers - 40% - Other - 10%
  11. Manager Nestor Corredor’s Aguilas del Zulia squad dropped their 6th game in a row (20-0 to Margarita), falling to 7th in the 8-team Venezuelan League. They have about 12 games remaining to claw back into the Top 4. - PH/1B Jesus Chirinos - 0-for-1 for Zulia - C Brian Navarreto - 0-for-3, walk, run; nobody attempted to steal against him - in Carolina’s 4-1 win over Ponce
  12. It looks like the Wilson, NC stadium project is a go, to be completed just before the 2026 season. The council approved all the resolutions, though perhaps they’ll have to issue the municipal bonds first.
  13. Yonny’s 2-for-49 Venezuelan Winter League disaster has me expecting nothing. 🤦‍♂️
  14. Clarke’s remaining option basically gives us the whole season to help him find the right mix and groove. Can’t complain. We may one day look back on INF Cam Devanney like INF Dylan Moore, though at least we’re getting a player in return this time. Good luck to Devanney and Ryan Brady. This may open the door to a spot in AAA for INF Freddy Zamora, but he may still need to earn it with a solid spring. INF Vinny Capra’s our numero uno SS in AAA, I think.
  15. Good analysis there. I think Dunn’s nearly 2 years older than any other position player (despite barely playing above AA ball), so maybe he’ll sit this one out in favor of Daniel Guilarte. We’ll see. Something tells me Tanner Shears will likely be part of this.
  16. Wednesday games: C Brian Navarreto - 2-for-4, double, 2 runs scored in Carolina's 9-0 victory over RA12 - again, nobody attempted to steal against him RHP Christian Mejias - 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K - in Aragua's 8-4 loss to Caracas. He gave up a homer to 29-year old UT Jose Rondon, who's mashing in Winter Ball (13 HRs, 1.079 OPS) Of course, Ronald Acuna Jr. (1.468 OPS), Yasiel Puig (1.344 OPS), Maikel Garcia (1.161 OPS) and Wilson Garcia (1.046 OPS) are also mashing in Venezuela.
  17. On Tuesday, C Brian Navarreto went 0-for-3 with 2 walks as Carolina defeated Santurce 5-4 in 10 innings. Nobody tried to steal on him for the second straight game.
  18. Jackson Chourio, Ronald Acuna and others in the Venezuelan League’s Home Run Derby:
  19. On Sunday, C Brian Navarreto went 0-for-3 as Carolina lost a walk-off 4-3 to Santurce.
  20. I’d think some Brewers’ fans would be interested in Max Muncy and/or Chris Taylor. How about 1B/3B Max Muncy and INF Miguel Vargas for INF Brice Turang, OF Tyrone Taylor and RHP Adrian Houser? Am I crazy?
  21. Friday games: - C Brian Navarreto - 2-for-3, 2 RBIs - in Carolina’s 9-3 win over Mayaguez (Puerto Rico) Checking in on our coaches - Victor Estevez’s Leones del Escogido (Dominican Republic) have won 7 of 10 to move to 3rd place in the 6-team league at 21-18 - Nester Corredor’s Aguilas del Zulia (Venezuela) have won 6 of 10 to move to 4th place in the 8-team league at 20-20
  22. On Thursday, C Brian Navarreto went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs as Carolina defeated Caguas 5-0.
  23. I doubt there’s much available to our liking. Probably best to re-sign Brent Diaz, Jason Lopez, Jose Sibrian and Alex Hall.
  24. And we've also selected nobody in the minor league phase:
