  1. RHP Clayton Andrews has seen official baseball action for the first time since May 22, 2021, retiring all 3 batters he faced in a rehab appearance for ACL Brewers Gold. Welcome back, Mr. Andrews!
  2. Is this a patented Cam Robinson 6-out save in a 1-run game we're looking at here? He's on for the Shuckers in the top of the 8th inning, leading 5-4.
  3. But the veteran Jordan ultimately comes through with consecutive strikeouts (with a wild pitch sandwiched in) to strand that final runner 90 feet from home and preserve Carolina's 4th straight win in the series, 10-9. Well done young men!
  4. Carolina's starter-turned-reliever RHP Brannon Jordan hasn't struggled like this since June 28th, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits in 1 1/3 innings of work thus far. It's 10-9 Mudcats, with the potential game-tying run on 2nd base and still just one out. An infield error in the inning didn't help.
  5. Never fear! Nick Kahle singled, Yeison Coca walked and Andruw Monasterio drove them both home with a 2-out, 2-run double to left. 5-4 Shuckers going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Contreras continues. 24-year old former 4rd round pick Kahle has raised his season OPS to "don't write me off, give me more opportunities" .703.
  6. 3B Branlyn Jaraba is having his best game of the year for Carolina, smacking a 3-run shot (his first of 2022) in the 1st inning to claim a 3-2 lead, knocking in 2 more runs with a 3rd inning single to break a 4-4 deadlock and collecting his 6th RBI later on a groundout. LF Luis Castillo added his 5th homer of the year, a solo shot in the 7th inning and it's now 10-5 in the bottom of the 8th inning. Starting RHP Alexander Vallecillo struggled (5 IP, 4 ER) but RHP Fernando Olguin threw 2 scoreless innings in relief.
  7. Jeez, that 3-1 Biloxi lead evaporated in a hurry, with three consecutive Biscuits reaching base against RHP Luis Contreras, adding an additional earned run charged to Robert Gasser and two charged to Contreras. We've got work to do, down 4-3 going into the 7th inning. C Nick Kahle has a 2-run homer and SS Cam Devanney drove in a run on one of his two doubles.
  8. RHP Brady Schanuel is once again solid in a spot start, giving the Timber Rattlers 3 scoreless innings before a rain delay halts play in Cedar Rapids. The good guys lead 5-0 on 2-run homers by 1B Wes Clarke (9th of the year) and CF Joe Gray Jr. (14th of the year), plus a SS Antonio Pinero sacrifice fly. Schanuel only conceded 2 singles and a walk, while striking out 3.
  9. Nashville aims for a sweep of today's doubleheader, with RHP Dylan File (4.40 season ERA) called upon to start Game Two and INF Brice Turang now getting his first-ever minor league action at 3rd base: 1 - Sal Frelick - LF 2 - Esteury Ruiz - DH 3 - Brice Turang - 3B 4 - Jon Singleton - 1B 5 - Pablo Reyes - SS 6 - Garrett Mitchell - CF 7 - Joey Wiemer - RF 8 - Patrick Dorrian - 2B 9 - Brian Navaretto - C X - Dylan File - P
  10. Pitches per batter faced (2022): Ethan Small (MLB/AAA): 4.15 Dylan File (AAA): 4.01 Caleb Boushley (AAA): 3.99 Josh Lindblom (AAA): 3.83 Tyler Herb (AAA/AA): 3.77 Jason Alexander (MLB/AAA): 3.71
  11. That sounds like Yovani 2.0
  12. ...which is part of the point. We let him start the 5th inning anyway despite struggling and being at 75 pitches with ALL righties set to hit against him: Madrigal, Contreras, Wisdom, Suzuki, Reyes. And let him continue after giving up a leadoff single in that inning. I know my own mind-set is more of a teenage one on this, but why not change things up? Show some urgency? Creativity? It just seems lethargic to me, unfortunately. Color me frustrated.
  13. With the Brewers' malaise, I certainly don't mind the passion shown here by our Sounds. Now finish them off and destroy them in Game Two as well.
  14. You did exactly the right thing and we greatly appreciate you for it. Something was certainly up and it was hard to say exactly.
  15. Maybe he's bored. Zero pinch hits. No reliever brought in mid-inning to attempt to strand baserunner(s). No defensive replacements. Somebody needs to reach for the defibrillator for this team.
  16. AA Biloxi is down 2-1 in their road series in Montgomery, but has stud LHP Robert Gasser making his 3rd organizational start (1.00 ERA in 9 IP over 2 games). Sparkplug DH/SS Andruw Monasterio (.956 OPS in AA ball) returns after 2 days out of the lineup:
  17. Yup, 2 days without Mr. Chourio and 3 days without Mr. Quero.
  18. The Mudcats have won three games in a row at home against Fayetteville and have 20-year old RHP Alexander Vallecillo (4.60 season ERA in ACL/Low-A) making his 3rd Low-A start tonight. DH/INF Alberis Ferrer returns from a 2-week injury and RF Hendry Mendez has an 8-game on-base streak:
  19. High-A Wisconsin trails 3-0 in their series at Cedar Rapids and has RHP Brady Schanuel (3.76 season ERA) making his 2nd career start tonight. DH/SS Eduardo Garcia has a 6-game hitting streak:
  20. Game One of Nashville's doubleheader in Jacksonville is underway, with the series tied 1-1. LHP Ethan Small (3.38 season ERA in AAA) is your starter. CF Esteury Ruiz comes in with a 7-game hitting streak: 1 - Sal Frelick - DH 2 - Esteury Ruiz - CF 3 - Brice Turang - SS 4 - Jon Singleton - 1B 5 - Pablo Reyes - 2B 6 - Pedro Severino - C 7 - Joey Wiemer - RF 8 - Weston Wilson - 3B 9 - Matt Lipka - LF X - Ethan Small - P
  21. Am I wrong to wish for some boldness? Like pinch hit Brosseau for Yelich against that lefty to try to get more out of the inning? (produced an RBI groundout) Or pull Milner after 3 batters, so he doesn’t have to face a 3rd straight righty? (gave up 2-run jack) Or pinch-hit Hiura for Urias or Taylor against that 8th inning righty? (both K’d)
  22. Jeez, three losses for the DSL clubs today. That's not a good way to start the weekend!: DSL Tigers1 11, DSL Brewers2 10 - walk-off loss on a 2-run single with 2 outs in the 9th inning. This game was a continuation of the original July 7th game which the Brewers led 9-5 in the 4th inning when play was halted DSL Mets1 5, DSL Brewers1 2 - gave up the final 4 runs of the game DSL Tigers1 3, DSL Brewers2 0 - held the Tigers to 1 hit but committed 4 errors in the loss On the positive front: The statistics from Brewers-2's July 7th game will finally reflect for players like Demetrio Nadal (4-for-6, 2 RBIs) and Yeison Perez (2-for-3, 4 RBIs) 18-year old RHPs Darling Solano (4 1/3 IP, 3 R (1 ER), 1 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 2 WP, 9 Ks) and Franddy De Los Santos (1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 3 Ks) combined on Brewers-2's 1-hitter in the second game, striking out 12 in 6 innings OF Duncan Garcia (2-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) and 18-year old RHP Aneuris Rodriguez (4 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 3 H, 2 BB, 1 WP, 2 Ks) each performed well in Brewers-1's loss, while 19-year old RHP Cristofher Carrasco struck 7 batters in 2 2/3 innings despite being hit hard (4 runs on 5 hits)
  23. - LHP Clayton Andrews sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers Gold from AAA Nashville - RHP Caleb Boushley placed on AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list retroactive to August 18, 2022
  24. 10 games today, given the Nashville and DSL Brewers-2 doubleheaders! I'm happy to see that 1B/OF Yeison Perez is back in action for DSL Brewers-2 after being out for several games.
