1. After sadly ending the MLB season 3 weeks earlier than planned, I guess we'll be seeing some MILB transactions to report. Here's one from last week: - LHP Kyle Lobstein of AAA Nashville Sounds elected free agency Lobstein was acquired for cash on July 13, 2021 from the Washington Nationals, who had DFA'd him. The Brewers subsequently DFA'd him as well on August 17th and he was outrighted on August 20th. He made 23 appearances for the Sounds (none for the Brewers), registering a 4.94 ERA and 1.65 WHIP with 7.6 K/9 in 23.2 innings.
2. I think Josh Hader will be dealt. After losing his most recent arbitration case, I think something serious went on behind the scenes, with the team ultimately agreeing to let him maximize saves (thereby improving his arbitration negotiating position) and everyone pretending to be happy. But I doubt this will be repeated next year. Some team should sign him to a massive, multi-year contract, then use him in a fireman role which maximizes value for the team.
3. If you told me that our 4-game pitching totals would be: - Woodruff - 103 - Burnes - 91 - Lauer - 74 - Peralta - 57 - Hader - 31… …yeah, I’d say things went haywire and we’re dead in the water. Then when you realize that none of our Big 4 + Lauer imploded, it just gets more frustrating. I wish we’d set a plan to ride our best 5 pitchers as much as humanly possible and stuck with it. Our middle relief was too much of a weakness to use against a solid Braves lineup, in my opinion. Good season, bad series. Thanks for a fun 6 months. Go Packers.
4. I’m guessing we’ll pass on Vogelbach. I mean, we passed on claiming Jesus Aguilar and his ~$2.6m-ish arbitration salary not so long ago when we had a gaping hole at first base. We’ve Rowdy and will hope Keston figures it out. I think the organization likes Luke Maile, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we non-tender him and then sign him right back to a team-friendly MILB or MLB contract.
5. So now what? Lauer and Burnes for Game 4? Woodruff and Peralta for Game 5?
6. It's great to know that Abner Uribe is healthy again, as he last pitched in a game on July 22nd. We've basically rewarded our Position Player of the First Half (Joe Gray) and Position Player of the Second Half (Joey Wiemer), then found more at-bats for Mario Feliciano. I understand that we don't want to burn out starting pitchers, so it makes sense to see Taylor Floyd and J.T. Hintzen. Justin Jarvis is an interesting final choice, going with a young guy who made 17 starts this year. Tom Haudricourt listed Jolon (Lun) Zhao as being on the taxi squad. All right, now who's going to Winter Leagues in Australia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Nicaragua...?
7. Thanks for the clarification that it’s typically higher-level guys who participate in the AFL. Well, here’s hoping Garrett Mitchell is healthy then. Maybe we’ll see guys like Lutz and Feliciano who both missed some time with injuries. Cooper Hummel posted that he’ll be playing this year:
8. Pablo Reyes' Grand Slam Leads Sounds Over Indians, 8-3 in Season Finale https://www.milb.com/nashville/news/pablo-reyes-grand-slam-leads-sounds-over-indians In a fun season finale, the Sounds led 2-0 (top of 4th inning) and 3-2 (fifth inning) before a Jamie Westbrook RBI single and Pablo Reyes grand slam blew open the game in the 7th inning. Reyes' blast was with 2 outs, after David Fry had doubled and Renato Nunez had walked. On the mound, Victor Castaneda struggled a bit (2 runs in 2.2 innings), but 6 other pitchers tossed 6.1 innings and yielded only 1 run. The AAA Nashville Sounds finish their highly successful season with a record of 70-58. Luke Maile - 2-3, 1 RBI Jamie Westbrook - 2-4, 2 RBI David Dahl - 2-5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI Pablo Reyes - 1-4, HR, 4 RBI David Fry - 1-4, 2B, walk Matt Lipka - 1-4, walk, 2 SB Jake Cousins made a rehab start: 1.0 inning, zero runs, 0 Ks Victor Castenda threw 66 pitches: 2.2 innings, 2 ER, 5 Ks Zack Brown collected the win: 1.1 innings, zero runs, 1 K Eric Yardley, Kyle Lobstein and Luke Barker were solid: 3.0 innings, zero runs, 4 Ks https://www.milb.com/gameday/sounds-vs-indians/2021/10/03/659004#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=659004

11. DSL-Brewers2 Defeats DSL-Brewers1 in Shortened Season Finale 6-4 The DSL-Brewers2 squad scored four runs before recording an out, racing to a 5-0 lead. The DSL-Brewers1 team cut the lead to 5-4 by the 4th inning, but ran out of time (or more likely ran out of decent weather). The game abruptly ended with the DSL-Brewers1 squad due to bat in the bottom of the 6th. The DSL-Brewers1 squad finished the season with a 31-28 record and the DSL-Brewers2 team ended with a 29-30 record. 18-year old Edgardo Ordonez (Venezuela) – 2-3, 2 RBI, 1 SB – the catcher led all DSL-Brewer position players with an .868 OPS in his first professional season 19-year old Jamal Zalm (Curacao) – 2-3, 2B – the 2nd baseman posted a solid .764 OPS for the year 19-year old Isaac Curbata (Venezuela) – 2-3, 1 RBI 18-year old Miguel Briceno (Venezuela) – 2-3, 2B 17-year old Ney Serrano (DR) – 1-2, HR, walk, HBP, 1 RBI, 2 SB – the shortstop boosted his season OPS to .707 18-year old Eduarh Colina (Venezuela) – 1-2, walk – the right fielder recorded a .741 OPS for the year Ferreira – 1-2, 1 SB 18-year old Diego Larez (Venezuela) – 1-2 – the corner outfielder posted a .753 season OPS A Perez – 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB 17-year old Jackson Chourio (Venezuela) – 1-4, 1 RBI – the prized center fielder finished strong with a season OPS of .833 (2nd amongst Brewer-DSL players) 19-year old Rafael Camacho (Venezuela) had a rare difficult start – 4.0 innings, 4 ER, 5 Ks, but still a great season: 2.20 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 in 45.0 innings 18-year old Henrison Mota (DR) picked up the win – 1.0 inning, zero runs, 0 Ks – a solid year: 3.20 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 12.1 K/9 in 25.1 innings 19-year old Anthony Perez (DR) took the loss – 1.0 innings, 5 ER, 3 Ks 19-year old Hamlet Vasquez (DR) and 18-year old Dencer Geraldo (DR) both threw well in relief – 4.0 innings, zero runs, 8 Ks 19-year old Stanley Encarnacion (DR) gave up a late homer – 1.0 inning, 1 ER, 0 Ks – he threw well on the season: 3.89 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 37.0 innings https://www.milb.com/gameday/dsl-brewers2-vs-dsl-brewers1/2021/10/02/660527#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=660527 Bench Notes 20-year old Rafael Martinez (Venezuela) – CF, season OPS of .774 OPS (third on DSL-Brewer squads) 19-year old Jose Gonzalez (Venezuela) – CF, season OPS of .743 17-year old Jadher Areinamo (Venezuela) – SS, season OPS of .714 19-year old Stiven Cruz (Nicaragua) – lead all DSL-Brewer pitchers with 1.37 ERA and 12.5 K/9. 12. Victor Castaneda makes his 3rd Nashville start (9.1 innings, 1 run, 12 Ks in his first 2), as the squad tries to win its 7th of 9 games:
13. Does anyone think we’ll see some of the recent draft picks who’ve yet to play?: - LHP 2nd rounder Russell Smith - RHP 4th rounder Logan Henderson - RHP 6th rounder Carlos Rodriguez Outside of them, I’m guessing we may see guys like Sal Frelick, Tyler Black, Wes Clarke (if healthy) and Jefferson Figueroa.

15. Sounds fall 7-2, Eliminated from Final Stretch Contention https://www.milb.com/nashville/news/errors-doom-sounds-in-indianapolis This one was bad all around, but hey, at least we have October MILB baseball. Out-hit 8-5 and with 4 errors (none for the Indians), Nashville could not come back from a 4-1 third inning deficit. Matt Lipka was the main bright spot, with a third inning homer and fifth inning double. 26-year old starter Alec Bettinger's relatively disappointing season ends with a 4.75 ERA in 96.2 innings. Matt Lipka - 2-4, HR, 2B, 1 RBI (though with one of the errors) Zach Green - 1-3, walk, 1 RBI Mario Feliciano - 1-3, 1 SB (though with one of the errors) David Fry - 1-4, 3B (though with one of the errors) Alec Bettinger takes the loss: 4.0 innings, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 Ks Connor Sadzeck: 1.0 inning, zero runs, 1 K https://www.milb.com/gameday/sounds-vs-indians/2021/10/01/659006#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=659006
16. The DSL-1 squad, who’ve been decent (31-27 record), were on the wrong end of a 7-inning perfect game today (a 2-0 loss). But that may be part-squad choice (sat 3 of top OPS guys) and part-luck (only K’d 5 times in 21 ABs). This is on the back of being 1-hit yesterday in a 1-0 “extra inning” 8-inning loss. The team had 2 earned baserunners in that one (double, walk) and 3 men left on base (since the free 8th inning ghost runner also didn’t score). 2 of their top OPS guys sat out that game as well. The DSL-2 squad appears to be playing a different game entirely, winning 13-3 today (7 innings) after losing 19-4 yesterday (9 innings). Big signing, 17-year old Jackson Chourio went 4-5 today with 4 RBIs, hitting his 5th homer. That rockets his season OPS to .841 after a slow start. He’s started 32 games in center field and 6 games at second base.
17. The Nashville Sounds have won 6 of their last 7 games and will try to keep it rolling. Alec Bettinger looks for a repeat of his last start (5.1 innings, 1 ER, 5 Ks in a win) and David Dahl continues to anchor the lineup (hit safely in 16 of last 18 games, with .903 OPS in the span):

19. Nashville Sounds Hire Adam English as General Manager and Chief Operating Officer https://www.milb.com/nashville/news/nashville-sounds-hire-adam-english-as-general-manager-and-chief-operating-office A native of Lexington, Ky., English joins the Sounds after serving as the Vice President and General Manager for the Gwinnett Stripers, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. English was with the Stripers since November of 2018. English was previously with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats from 2013-18. Adam was with the Single-A Lexington Legends from 2010-13 as the Director of Ticket Sales and later the Assistant General Manager. He began his professional career in sports with Ripken Baseball in 2006. I believe that he’s technically replacing Adam Nuse, who left the Sounds in March 2021 after 5 years as GM and COO to join the Tennessee Titans.
20. Nashville blasts Indianapolis 8-3, Boosting AAA Final Stretch Record to 6-1 https://www.milb.com/nashville/news/sounds-power-their-way-over-indians The Sounds built an 8-0 lead through 4 innings and coasted from there, while starting pitcher Ethan Small finished the season on decent notes on the mound and at the plate. A double, 4 singles and a walk produced 5 runs in the 3rd inning, before a Rowdy Tellez 3-run homer put the game away in the 4th inning. Rowdy Tellez - 1-3, HR, 2 walks, 3 RBI David Dahl - 2-4, 2B, walk, 1 RBI Brice Turang - 2-3, walk, 1 RBI Ethan Small (hitting) - 1-2, walk Zach Green - 1-4, 2B, walk, 2 RBIs Ethan Small (pitching) took the win - 5.0 innings, 2 ER, 4 Ks Thomas Jankins, Kyle Lobstein and Zach Brown - combined 3.0 innings, zero runs, 2 Ks The Sounds are now in a tie for 2nd place during the AAA Final Stretch, with 3 games remaining: - Durham - 7-0 - Nashville - 6-1 - Buffalo - 6-1 https://www.milb.com/gameday/sounds-vs-indians/2021/09/30/659007#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=659007
21. After a tough loss yesterday dropped the Sounds to 5-1 in the AAA Final Stretch, the team is ready to bounce back today. Ethan Small gets the call, also looking to bounce back from his last start (1.2 innings, 3 ER) to end his otherwise terrific year (1.87 ERA in 72.1 innings across 2 levels) on a high note:

23. Clippers Stun Sounds 5-4 in Extra Innings https://www.milb.com/nashville/news/sounds-blow-ninth-inning-lead-fall-in-indianapolis A veteran-laden Sounds squad (no Turang or Feliciano in the lineup) rolled along through 8 innings, leading 4-1 before giving up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th and losing on a walk-off error in the 10th. The team had scored 4 in the 4th inning on the back of 6 singles and had All-World Closer Luke Barker on the mound in the 9th when things fell apart (a single and 2 homers). Josh Lindblom had been well-positioned for the win. Dahl - 3-3, walk, 1 RBI Maile - 1-3, HBP, 1 RBI Tellez - 1-3 Lindblom - 5.0 innings, 1 ER, 8 Ks Hardy and Sobotka 3.0 innings, zero runs, 3 Ks First oddity: Sadzeck took the loss despite recording two strike outs (one reached via wild pitch) and a fielder's choice grounder to short, with no batter reaching base on a walk, hit or HBP. Second oddity: David Dahl was thrown out two times by outfielders when going for 2nd base (2nd inning tag-up, 8th inning single). https://www.milb.com/gameday/sounds-vs-indians/2021/09/29/659008#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=play-by-play,game=659008
24. The AAA Nashville Sounds, who are undefeated thus far (5-0) in the AAA Final Stretch, travel to face the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates’ affiliate) this week. The team welcomes Rowdy Tellez for a rehab start, while Josh Lindblom once again gets the first start in the series (5.0 innings, 2 ER, 6 Ks last week): 1 - Lipka - CF 2 - Tellez - 1B 3 - Westbrook - 2B 4 - Dahl - RF 5 - Fry - 3B 6 - Reyes - SS 7 - Broxton - LF 8 - Maile - C 9 - Lindblom - P
25. The Nashville Sounds have 5 remaining games this season, concluding on Sunday. The DSL squads are off today, with 3 remaining games each, concluding on Saturday.
