  1. Wisconsin trails their series at Peoria 3-2, so needs a win behind RHP Ryan Birchard (4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 10.4 K/9 in 21.2 IP) to salvage a draw. DH Blake Burke’s 8-game hit streak has lifted his OPS to .848.
  2. The AAA Sounds need a Sunday victory for a 4-2 home series win over Norfolk. Brandon Woodruff makes his final rehab start and 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. returns to the defense after an injury absence.
  3. It’s a battle for first place in the Southern League as AA 19-13 Biloxi hosts 19-13 Pensacola. LHP Tate Kuehner (4.39 ERA, 1.46 WHIP) needs to put his walk woes behind him (22 BB / 24 Ks in 26.2 IP). 3B Brock Wilken (.904) has the 4th-highest OPS in the pitcher-friendly league (.671 average OPS).
  4. The Low-A Mudcats get us started baseball-wise on this Mother’s Day, aiming to polish off a 5-1 series win at Kannapolis. LHP Wande Torres (5.14 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 10 Ks in 14 IP) makes his 2nd start of the week. SS Luis Pena (.338 AVG, .910 OPS) has hit safely in 17 of 18 games.
  5. Thanks for this. Great cases for Coleman Crow, Tyson Hardin and Bryce Meccage as well.
  6. The Shuckers can clinch a home series victory over Pensacola behind RHP Alexander Cornielle (0.42 ERA, 26 Ks in 21.2 IP) in the second game of today’s doubleheader. Bash Brothers Brock Wilken (7 HRs) and Zavier Warren (5 HRs) are in the top 5 in the Southern League in homers.
  7. High-A Wisconsin finds themselves knotted at 2 games apiece at Peoria, with 20-year old LHP Anthony Flores (5.79 ERA, 18 Ks in 18.2 IP) starting tonight’s pivotal game. 1B Blake Burke’s hitting streak is up to 7 games.
  8. The Low-A Mudcats get a 2nd chance to clinch a road series win at Kannapolis, this time as RHP Jaron DeBerry makes his second start (2 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks in first outing). SS Jesus Made has a 22-game on-base streak.
  9. 34-year old RHP Vinny Nittoli (5.91 ERA, 17 Ks in 10.2 IP) makes a rare start for AAA Nashville, as they seek to clinch a home series victory over Norfolk. 2B Anthony Seigler has a .413 OBP and comes in with a 6-game hit streak.
  10. After sweeping a home doubleheader over Pensacola on Thursday, AA Biloxi gets a chance to do it again today. RHP Brett Wichrowski makes his 2nd start of 2025 in the opening game (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 4 BB, 4 Ks last time out). 20-year old CF Luis Lara leads the team in doubles (8), stolen bases (9) and runs (23).
  11. Rehabbing RHP Tanner Shears’ second outing for ACL Brewers went a lot better than his first a week ago: pop out and 4 Ks this time out (19 pitches, 13 strikes). ACL Brewers came back from a 4-0 first inning deficit to win 8-4 in 7 innings, propelled by 5 extra base hits, including 8-9 batters Gery Holguin and Freider Rojas combining on a cycle (4-for-6, HR, triple, double, 2 RBIs, 4 runs). Handelfry Encarnacion also contributed 2 doubles and 3 RBIs.
  12. The Angels changed pitcher and Kevin Garcia greeted the newcomer with a first pitch, 2-run single up the middle. 5-4 ACL Brewers lead.
  13. And we get a Jose Anderson RBI single and then Handelfry Encarnacion takes it to a full count and delivers an RBI double. Our resilient Zona squad trails 4-3, with 2-on, 1-out in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Kevin Garcia (1-for-8 this year) and Kevin Ereu (0-14 this season) are due up.
  14. The reverse jinx worked! On a full count, Gery Holguin homers off Gregory-Alford for our first hit and run, then C Freider Rojas follows with a full count single (his first stateside hit) and Juan Ortuno follows with a full count walk. Well done men, though we still trail 4-1 in the 3rd inning.
  15. Um, the ACL Brewers are facing a 6’5”, 19-year old, $2 million draft signee RHP Trey Gregory-Alford. He’s retired K’s 7 of 7 Brewers thus far, 5 via K, They trail 4-0 in the third inning, with 2 runs earned (1B Gery Holguin error).
  16. 19-year old RHP Griffin Tobias makes his first organizational start for ACL Brewers, after throwing just 11 pitches in his debut. And INF/OF Juan Ortuno makes his 2nd start of the year at shortstop, after making only 4 starts at the premier position in the DSL last year. 1 - Ortuno - SS 2 - Anderson - CF 3 - Encarnacion - RF 4 - K. Garcia - C 5 - Ereu - 3B 6 - Fielder - 2B 7 - Paulino - LF 8 - Holguin - 1B 9 - F. Rojas - C X - Tobias - P
  17. Yeah, 4 games in 3 days is tough. Even tougher when we’ve not replaced Timmerman or Holobetz, so the active roster is at 28. We got a bit lucky that Bryan Rivera got thru 5 innings in the first game of the day.
  18. Was this some sort of tough love development for Anfernny Reyes? Seems odd to let a guy go out there and walk 6 of 7 batters, losing the game, when you’ve got Vire, Langhorne and Bjorn relatively fresh.
  19. RHP Tyson Hardin is also a fun arm to watch (0.70 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 25.2 IP), looking to lead the High-A Timber Rattlers to a 3-1 road series advantage at Peoria. 1B Blake Burke has a 6-game hit streak and 13-game on-base streak.
  20. Now it’s time for RHP Jacob Misiorowski (1.77 ERA, 43 Ks in 35.2 IP) and AAA Nashville at home against Norfolk, aiming for a 3-1 series lead. SS Freddy Zamora’s 8-game hitting streak has average up to .304.
  21. Mudcats complete the comeback win 5-4, with Sam Garcia retiring 9 of 10 batters faced to earn the save, including the last 3 via fly out. The two teams are to square off again in 40 minutes or so.
  22. Sam Garcia’s not messing around, retiring 6 of 7 batters thus far, including 4 straight via strikeout swinging at one point. The bottom of the 9th is his to handle as well. Carolina still leading 5-4.
  23. Who needs a hit? Yannic Walther walks and comes around on a wild pitch, ground out and error in the 7th. 5-4 Mudcats. 22-year old LHP Sam Garcia (3.06 ERA, 20 Ks in 17.2 IP) gets the call for the bottom of the 7th, his first action in 8 days.
  24. Bryan Rivera had allowed a leadoff single, double and triple in other innings, but went with a leadoff HBP in the 6th. Later, a 2-out RBI single brought that runner home, so they’re tied 4-4 and headed to the 7th inning. At 81 pitches, I’m sure Rivera’s done for the evening (5 IP, 3 R, 7 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks).
  25. You’d think a leadoff triple for Kannapolis might rattle Bryan Rivera in the 5th, but he gets 2 strikeouts swinging and a ground out (and no WPs, PBs or balks) to strand that runner. He’s up to 6 Ks and 63 pitches thru 4 innings of relief. Carolina 4, Cannon Ballers 3 thus far.
