  1. Is Canha blowing his chance to make the Opening Day roster?
  2. And here are the lineups from today’s MILB ST games. I'm looking forward to seeing some 4-squad days (expected from tomorrow), so Jadher Areinamo can be at the correct level:
  3. This was the lineup from yesterday’s Spring Breakout game:
  4. Gotta figure Elvis Peguero is back on the expected Opening Day 26-man roster:
  5. Last year, the Sounds announced their roster 1 day before their opener, while Biloxi, Wisconsin and Carolina announced 4 days before their openers. We can usually figure out position player placements to some degree by the ST lineups, but pitching is always a mystery.
  6. If there’s a thread to belabor the point, I guess this is it. My guess is the Brewers see Smith as a swingman (like Junis, whose signing we likely regret; and Bryse Wilson / Elvin Rodriguez, who are cheap and walk fewer batters), which they simply value less than starters and relievers. If Smith ends up being a star (unlikely, I admit - baseball is tough!), we could look back on this as a mis-reading of positional value in a similar manner as Paul Molitor (just a DH) and Casey Hayward (just a slot corner). With that framing, it would mean they placed Smith: - behind 3+ pitch starters like CF-Rod and Patrick (regretting having believed in Ethan Small once); - behind super-special relievers like Uribe and (expected) Yoho (regretting having protected Cam Robinson once); - behind a less walk-prone swingman like Elvin Rodriguez. My beef on this is simply that I think we were better off trading Smith like we did Justin Topa (even though his return was admittedly low) -> something in return being better than nothing.
  7. Here are the first Minor League Camp lineups of 2025, the surest sign that Baseball and Spring are nearly upon us! Jesus Made (17), Luis Pena (18), Jose Anderson (18), Josh Adamczewski (19) and Luis Corobo (17) in the same lineup! Marco Dinges behind the plate! Demetrio Nadal in the outfield?!
  8. We thank @BrewersPD for once again sharing lineups from Minor League Camp, giving us about 2 weeks worth of information to decipher - e.g. missing players (injuries?), position changes (Erceg pitching!?) and eventually likely assignment levels for some players (AAA, AA, A+, A). I'd advise that you don't read too much into indicated assignment levels for top prospects (who often feature higher in these Spring Training games), pitchers and catchers (who work wherever slots are available) or clear back-ups (daily fillers).
  9. We have our first Minor League Camp lineups, thanks to BrewersPD! We’ll create a new thread for this, but I wanted to share the first one here right away. Hooray!
  10. I assume we’ll open a new thread in this Minor League forum for minor league camp spring training lineups, similar to prior years. I’m also worried they may not post the lineups this year, as they’ve not yet posted the ACL and DSL manager and coach names, but hopefully we’re not left disappointed. Fingers crossed.
  11. I agree that we pivoted to select Thomas after misreading the market on Smith’s value and losing him. And yes, now I want Thomas to become a 15-year super swingman or lefty silencer while Smith becomes a relatively ordinary 10-year MLB reliever. I hope we don’t end up with the worst of all worlds, where Thomas costs us some wins in 2025 and ultimately gets returned, while Smith has a sterling career with several All Star appearances. We obviously wouldn’t have expected to use Smith much in MLB in 2025 (if we’d selected him), so I won’t judge his 2025 MLB season as very meaningful. It’s more about whether he has a successful multi-season MLB career.
  12. There’s also the man who put up 47 homers and 152 RBIs over the past 2 seasons: Mr. Wes Clarke. I think there’s a Canha vs. Bauers MLB roster decision, with the other player likely opting out.
  13. BrewersPD usually starts posting them from about March 14 and yes, we like to create a forum and paste them there, usually starting with a loooonngggg list of the Minor League Camp Roster. Fingers crossed.
  14. Doubled and homered today. Seems like an opt-out candidate to me, unless a key MLB position player injury pops up (heaven forbid).
  15. “I’m not angry, YOU’RE angry!” I think to myself as I look in the mirror.
  16. Thanks for this. That early season Rodriguez-Miller-Kahle AAA decision (until Quero can catch) will probably come down to whoever can best handle Yoho and Misiorowski. Pratt seems like a fast track Major Leaguer, so I struggle to think we’d send him to Appleton at 20 years, 7.5 months. And yeah, if Pratt’s in AA, we might as well get Adamczewski up to High-A if he’s ready. I guess we could make Lara initially repeat High-A and have Kay Lan Nicasia (among MILB farmhand call-ups today - first sighting since May 16, 2024 injury, I think) be an old man in Low-A, giving Restituyo, Spain, Adam Hall and Eduardo Garcia more time in the Biloxi outfield with O’Rae. Guys like Luis Pena, Jose Anderson, Wande Torres and Demetrio Nadal could stay back in Extended Spring Training and still technically skip ACL ball by getting promoted to Carolina before ACL games start on May 3rd.
  17. Germany fell 6-4 to Brazil, with our man Yannic Walther going 0-for-3 with a walk (promptly picked off). It was a rough week for the 20-year old, unfortunately. So the WBC 2026 field is now set, with Colombia, Nicaragua, Brazil and Chinese Taipei grabbing the last 4 qualifying spots. Games start on March 5, 2026.
  18. The Qualify-or-Go Home Finale between Germany and Brazil has commenced, with the Brewers’ Yannic Walther DHing and batting 6th for Germany:
  19. Germany (1-2) fell 10-0 to Colombia (3-0) in their final group match, with Yannic Walther not seeing action. Fortunately, the format now pits them in a qualify-or-go-home rematch against Brazil (2-1) on Thursday at 7pm.
  20. Oh my. Our man Yannic Walther (1-for-4) struggled in right field as Germany lost 9-7 to Brazil, going 1-for-11 with RISP and stranding 14 baserunners. They drop to a 1-1 record and play Colombia tomorrow at 7pm CST.
  21. Germany's second qualifier (against Brazil) is under way, with the Brewers' Yannic Walther batting 6th and playing right field. Unfortunately, Germany has left 5 on base through the first 2 innings:
