  1. What's the penalty for the Stadium District defaulting on the lease?
  2. Comparing Miller Park to the dump the A's play in is like comparing a 2013 Lexus to a 1976 Ford Pinto.
  3. I don't see the need for pessimism. It's a long season and there will be stretches of poor play/results. Patience is called for.
  4. Billy Beane in full tank mode. Wherever he is, Sam Hinkie is smiling.
  5. Oh my. That is some horrid production. -34 OPS+ in 76 PA's. I wasn't watching that season since I was out of state serving in the Marines. I certainly didn't miss much in those years (99-05).
  6. Agreed. I certainly didn't expect the Brewers to contend that year. But by the end of April they were 20-8 and Wang should have been cut loose. The Brewers quickly knew they could only use him in blow outs, which basically burns a roster spot. Plus I think it was unfair to send the guy into games to get his brains bashed out since he was clearly over his head. That said, I'm sure he enjoyed the big league paycheck. (Edit - I just checked his game logs for that year. He made 14 appearances. The Brewers lost 13 of those 14 games. The one game he pitched in that the Brewers won was a 11-5 victory over the Cubs. He pitched the 8th when the Brewers were up 11-3. Did not give up any runs in his 1 inning though!)
  7. I never said he cost them a playoff spot (though he certainly did not help in any way). I said he had no business being on a roster for a team competing for the playoffs. Rule 5 players like Wang are for trash teams panning for gold. Not playoff contenders.
  8. They were in first place on August 31st. If that's not in playoff contention I don't know what is. They folded in September, but for 5 months they were mostly in 1st place.
  9. The most egregious use of a Rule 5 pick was Wang Chung by the Brewers in 2014. He was totally out of his depth given his age and lack of experience and was thrown into the bullpen of a playoff contending team. That's not how Rule 5 picks should be used. I'm still angry about that.
  10. Good for the A's. They've needed to get out of Oakland for years.
  11. Woody really has no incentive to push it to come back this season. If he comes back and gets hurt again that would be terrible for his future. If he misses the rest of the season but is healthy in 2024 it won't matter whether he missed 3 months or 5 months in 2023.
  12. If there was good news we would know it by now. Not good. This is why pitchers are playing with fire if they reject extension guarantees or avoid extension talks in hopes of hitting it big in free agency.
  13. It depends on whether you live in or out of market. Out of market fans have the option of MLB.tv, which is a great value even at full price ($150 per season to get every MLB game that is outside your home market).
  14. If your family is on a tight budget there are many ways to enjoy a Brewers game for not lot of money. There are frequent inexpensive ticket packages available and you can tailgate before the game and carry in peanuts and/or popcorn (or even Cracker Jack!) and bottles of water to consume during the game. You can even bring in sandwiches and the like if you need to eat something more substantial. I realize ballpark food is very expensive but you're not required to buy it to have a good time at the ball game.
  15. The owner of the website brought up the issue. I would say that makes it fair game to discuss.
  16. Agreed. I have no interest in walking around downtown Milwaukee. I worked down there for 9 years (which ended in 2015) and I'd be happy to never return. My preferred pre-game activity is tailgating--not window shopping or dodging gunfire. It's cheap, fun, and delicious and the Brewers parking lot set up is great for that. For in-park food I carry in peanuts and water.
  17. I take it from that Stearns didn't want the job.
  18. I take it from that Stearns didn't want the job.
  19. It's obvious he wants to leave. Why pay the guy to do basically nothing? Just let him go.
  20. It's obvious he wants to leave. Why pay the guy to do basically nothing? Just let him go.
  21. The guy was non-tendered by a team that won 69 games last season. I find it hard to get excited about that kind of player...
  22. Rather than extend him, I would trade him right now to the Dodgers (assuming the Dodgers have interest--and I think they do). The Dodgers have plenty of prospects to spare. The Brewers could bridge to Brice Turang with someone like Elvis Andrus or Jose Iglesias or Jean Segura.
  23. I like the headline from Keith Law's article in The Athletic: "Law: Oakland trades Sean Murphy to Atlanta, and the winners are … the Brewers?" Subscription required* but here's the article: https://theathletic.com/3995819/2022/12/12/trade-grade-athletics-braves-brewers/ *My subscription to The Athletic was $1 per month. ? I don't normally like subscription services but for $1 a month I can make an exception.
