  1. The waiver could be granted, but I don't think he has a real case for it. He was starting, he's already close to home, there hasn't been a coaching change. It's really no different than the Hausers this year, other than they did it in the off-season. Maybe he gets one to play at semester break, but he has no real argument. Though I've given up on anything the NCAA does - half the waivers make no sense, then the ones that really should get one (Potter), don't.
  2. It's a Bucks record, but definitely not an NBA record.
  3. No Giannis tonight - presumably for Kobe, as the two were pretty close. It's not the worst timing as Giannis gets an entire week off basically to rest and now grieve. Hopefully it won't matter, the Wizards are pretty bad. Bucks should still win but any time he's out, it goes from almost "sure" win to just "likely".
  4. Right call or not (it probably was), the rule needs to be looked at. That foul occurred BEFORE Iowa scored. So they got the two points, THEN reviewed it, made the call and gave Iowa 2 FT and the ball on top of that. So they essentially got 6 points. In that situation, if they're going to call the flagrant (which happened before the score and they reviewed it immediately afterwards), it would make sense to wipe away the basket, reset the clock and then foul the flagrant rules. By doing it the way they did (and probably correctly), it essentially ended the game as Iowa got I think 5 points on the possession (they missed one FT too). The refs made it tough - Iowa shot three times as many FT, including on 7 of their last 10 possessions. But the Badgers just inability to score strikes again, as with just marginal offense the last 7 minutes, this is a nice road win - same thing happened the last few minutes of the Illinois game too.
  5. I don’t care how many games they win, as long as they win the last game in June. 70 would be cool, but the title is all that matters. That said, I think they wind up in the 67-68 range, still have some tough games left and they may rest players leading into the playoffs if it’s all locked up already. The East is already won, they have stretched the lead on the Lakers to 4 games now too.
  6. One aspect that I think gets overlooked when it's NBA vs NFL is the fact that in the NFL, superstar players rarely, if ever, change teams (not including a guy like Brady who could leave after 20 years in NE), but in the prime of their career. Imagine Rodgers up and leaving GB after the SB win 9 years ago. It's virtually unheard of. The NFL actively tries to have a level playing field, tries to keep stars with their teams for their careers. The NBA...while they say they do the right thing (and the Bucks CAN offer Giannis the most money), we've seen that it rarely matters. Guys are going with their buddies to form Super Teams - either by all signing with the same team or pulling an AD and forcing a trade to the Lakers. Lebron might be the greatest of all time, but he's on his fourth team (well 3 I guess, but he was with the Cavs twice). Durant is on his third (and left to form not one, but potentially two super teams). The list goes on on and on. I think that matters. We have the best player in the league...imagine how Bucks fans will feel if he were to leave (hopefully we never find out) but just imagine that. It's hard to get attached to teams/players when in the back of everyone's mind, the question is...will he resign this summer? The media beats it to death. Yet this is NEVER talked about in football.
  7. Seems like an obvious point....but is there something with the west coast? Could be a total coincidence but by far their 3 worst games of the season all came traveling out west. Maybe the 49ers are just that bad of a matchup for the Packers, but the Chargers??
  8. I agree, we aren't losing the East barring a massive slew of injuries or something - though staying in front of the Lakers could be huge. The Bucks did lost to Boston very early this season, but if I'm remembering correctly, the Bucks were up 20 at one point in the game and it was on the road. I think the Bucks were still feeling out how to play together with the new pieces (also blew the big lead to Miami at home). I'll be at the game tonight, I hope the crowd is jacked. One game means nothing, but it's one for some reason I really want them to win.
  9. I think that'll change if/when one of them actually wins a title. Feels like we've had many good teams over the last decade and keep coming up just short. It's great to make title games, conference finals, final fours, etc....but I really want to win one. Or two. Or three. This Bucks team has a real shot - I'm more worried about the Lakers than anyone else. Not saying much there, but they could be exceptionally tough to beat in a 7 game series, especially with the Lebron whistles.
  10. Wes Mathews is a VERY good on ball defender. Watch him against Kawhi a couple weeks ago - shut him down fairly well. Could be the difference in a playoff series. As others have said, this team is special. Stay healthy and they're going to be exceptionally difficult to beat in a 7 game series.
  11. Maybe we jinxed it. No Giannis tonight - we'll see how the team looks without him. The Pelicans aren't very good so hopefully they can get the win regardless.
  12. This may be their best shot ever if they can stay healthy. No Durant, no Warriors. The East primed to be won. Then likely a battle with one of the LA teams (and the officials).
  13. Per Brewers twitter....RHP Justin Grimm has been signed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to Major League camp.
  14. If the numbers say they are the second-best team in the league and by eyeball test, you think they should be better, that might say something about the offensive talent in the league more than the Buck's actual defensive capabilities. Time to adjust expectations. Guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Overall, yes the defense has been good. But they’re allowing the 4th highest three point percentage in the league (almost 38%). I guess this is because they’ve made it a point to protect the paint more, but they don’t seem to adjust this game plan much based upon their opponent. If you rewatch the Jazz game (7th best team in the nba on threes), they exploited this over and over. I’m not against helping on penetration but there were many times it just flat wasn’t necessary or guys left their man in the corner without much purpose and it lead to open threes time after time. Their on ball defense is good, they challenge shots well. Just not understanding the strategy of collapsing as frequently as they do.
  15. I've been hoping for this for quite awhile. Love the bat in the middle of the order. Would allow Braun some starts at 1b (if that's the plan) and I don't think he's going to get THAT much on the market.
  16. 2nd best defensive rating in the league. They give up a lot of points because they play faster than any other team in the NBA. https://stats.nba.com/teams/advanced/?sort=PACE&dir=-1 I know what the metrics say, but watching this team play defense it's nearly impossible to call it good. The Utah game is a prime example IMO (same as the Toronto series last season). The Bucks collapse on penetration WAY more than they should. It happened over and over and over against the Jazz where guys would inexplicably collapse (which doesn't make a ton of sense when Giannis and Lopez are in, both capable of protecting the rim). The Jazz would kick it out, sometimes requiring an extra pass or two but wound up with at least 25 wide open threes because the Bucks put themselves in scramble mode and the Jazz had good ball movement. It's just one game, but it happens consistently. That's ok when teams miss shots or when you're playing a poor shooting team, but against the Jazz (top ten in 3 point %), it made very little sense and the Jazz made them pay with something like 20 made threes. This might be nitpicking but Toronto exploited this big time in the playoffs last year.
  17. Few issues i see with the Bucks so far (other than relying on the 3 too much, which I've already posted about): 1 - They keep blowing big leads. Yes, this is going to happen in the NBA, there's so much talent. But lost two games already giving up 20+ point leads and have blown multiple double digit leads - last night being a prime example. Had the game in control, then suddenly it matters again. Same thing with the OKC game, they blew a 14 point lead in the last 4 minutes, but ultimately won. 2 - Where's the killer instinct? It seems like they let up a bit and try to coast when they get the leads, and it hasn't worked out that well. They're winning games, but games where they're leading by 10-20 points wind up as 5-8 point wins consistently so far. Yes, I know I'm complaining about winning but when you get the chance to basically end a game, they need to go for it. It's going to wind up costing them games and it's something they just can't afford to do in the playoffs. 3- Where's the defense? The overall defensive rating is good, but they're giving up well over 100 points a game. They've won 7 games giving up 110+ points and lost games giving up 126 and 131. I know scoring is up league wide, but it just seems like they're having the same issues they had against Toronto. They're collapsing WAY too much in the lane - which doesn't make much sense given Lopez and Giannis have been really good challenging and blocking shots this year - and when they do that, it's leaving shooters wide open.

  21. They need to do something other than just shoot threes. Last night was a prime example. The Celtics had no real interior defense, the offense was struggling. Yet trip after trip, it was just constant three point attempts. Some were open, but when they aren't falling...generate points another way. Attack the rim, post up Giannis or Lopez. They did none of that and just like the Miami game, gave away a 20 point lead in the second half. It's early, but they need to figure that out. On top of that, I'm not a fan of Bud's rotation - one, we aren't play DD or DJ at all, not even a little. DJ specifically bothers me, we could use his defense and athletic ability at times. Also, why do we need to play our ENTIRE bench at the same time? I don't see any other teams really ever do this. Sure, Giannis and others need rest, but do they really all need to rest together? I just don't get that.
  22. Kyle Korver....the guy couldn't possibly fit on this team any better IMO. Last night comes in, drills 3 consecutive triples. Just something this team badly needs with Giannis on the floor.
  23. I understand everything you're all saying...and yes, it's great to be consistently good and get to these spots. I just want to finally see a couple of them get over the hump. Just screams "always a bridesmaid to me"...one of these years. I hope.
  24. Yeah, I was just talking about this after the Brewers loss last night. It's not so much that they lose (though sometimes it is when you're expected to win like the 15-1 Packers), but it's more HOW the teams get knocked out. Seems like it's always a gut-wrenching, painful loss. Brewers last night, Brewers lose game 7 at home last year, Brewers lose at home to the Cardinals. Bucks go up 2-0, then lose 4 straight close games in what could easily have been a championship year Badgers losses to Florida at the buzzer, KY on a desperate 3, Duke in the title game (lots of bad whistles), also lost to ND basically at the buzzer in the tournament as well Packers....15-1 loss to the Giants, the Seattle game, the AZ playoff game, the Giants NFC title game I'm sure there's more...just tough. I know the Packers have a SB or two in relatively recent years but nobody else does. It's great to be in these spots but at some point it would be nice to actually finish the job and win a title or two...
  25. I got way past that, just kept getting errors throughout the entire thing, even after the password thing. My rep eventually called and I bought tickets through her, but they're quite a bit worse than I had in my cart. Frustrating to say the least.
