  1. Sorry if any of this has been mentioned already, it's a long thread & I won't unpack it until later. I just want to mention some stuff that might be overlooked. There's some disappointment on not beefing up the bench/left side of the INF more at the deadline. I get it. But Anthony Seigler & Brandon Lockridge put up a combined 6 ABs today, and IMO five of them were outstanding. Murphy mentioned in the presser Lockridge saw (I think) thirty-three pitches. That's the sort of stuff the national talking heads seldom mention but can make all the difference in a game. Then Jansen & Ortiz reach base five times combined. I really think Ortiz shed a huge monkey when the deadline passed & he still had the SS job. He still gets caught in-between & at the plate looks like something south of what he turned in last season. But so, so much better. DL Hall was a real hero today. And it seems like someones' broken digit may be feeling a little better. Be it pitching lab, pitching coaches, scouting, personnel, minor league cross checkers---that's where much of this magic comes from. Hopefully the potential poaching from other organizations is minimized. They HAVE to be marveling at what's being done here, and how we go about it. Just wow.
  2. Do Jeff Levering & Brian Anderson have it written into their contracts that whenever a Brewer strikes out on a breaking pitch, they're mandated to call it 'nasty' regardless of whether or not it actually was?
  3. The ABs by Frelick & Collins in the 7th inning--both making contact after falling behind 0-2--were pure guts. Just so rewarding to watch.
  4. The Mets lost the game tonite. But solo HRs by three very heavily-paid guys earned them approximately two/thirds of a point in the all-important NMQ (needle-mover quotient).
  5. I'm cautiously optimistic re Myers today. He was more-or-less read the riot act when he allowed all the walks in his first couple starts & seemed to have cleaned that up. But no, we shouldn't expect him to go deep at all. IMO this would've been a good day for Hall to go a couple/three as an opener, then Myers.
  6. The decreased launch angle would theoretically mean fewer pop ups, sure. But despite lowering it the ball still travels well enough for him to homer at (I assume) a higher rate than any time in his career. He's barreling more often, which is really all he needs.
  7. Yep. Two WCs in a short series with the winner joining the division champs. But @Soupyis dead on. Common sense playoff structure is always going to lose out to $$$$.
  8. Given the opponent it seems to me like an inning or three from Hall as an opener might not be a bad idea.
  9. I've seen so much of their late-inning storybook crap over the years in their ballpark. Tell them we're still working on evening things up.
  10. He reached on catchers' interference, went to 2nd on a Contreras walk---a terrific AB----and 3rd on the HBP on Collins. Then stranded.
  11. I'm a real dork when it comes to baseball. Tape measure HRs & the other spectacular stuff are fine, but I love seeing a 2B & SS well-coordinated to the point where it looks like ballet, a hitter letting a ball over the outer half of the plate travel jusssst enough to drive it oppo, a catcher getting the footwork arranged, closing & opening the hips & shoulders to create a razor-thin pop time........... That charge, set-up, exchange & throw from Perkins was one of the tightest, most gorgeous things I've seen all year. Watching Woodruff since he's been activated, it finally hit me tonight. Catfish Hunter. For fans old enough to remember him, the guy seldom if ever beat himself, always seemed to throw a pitch OTHER than the one the hitter was looking for, and when he gave up a homer---and he gave up quite a few----it almost always seemed to come with no one on base. Been a Turang fan since day one. NEVER expected seeing him hit 6 or 7 & be as productive as he's been with men on base. Much fun.
  12. ...........And Gasser being elevated to AAA on his rehab odyssey. Yes, depth is very, very good thing. Also Miller is back, and Zastryzny seems to be progressing well.
  13. Lowering his average launch angle. And he's STILL hit seven bombs in 22 games. Take THAT, analytics.😁.
  14. Yeah that, and having MINFs that can cover a lot of ground, making the inability to shift a little less hurtful. A LOT of balls hit to Turang & Ortiz this year where they've wound up on the 'other' side of 2B & made the play.
  15. Switch-throwing (supposedly he can do that) is a pretty versatile trait lol. Durbin played there for an inning or two; maybe you're thinking of that? I think the Brewers have always liked someone on the bench that can play SS in addition to other spots, as opposed to moving so-and-so there from another position. It's why I believe Monasterio is safe, and also why I thought there was at least a fighting chance they'd inquire on Kiner-Falefa.
  16. Seigler has never played SS as a professional. After not picking up anyone at the deadline that can play on the left side of the INF that pretty much cements Monasterios' roster spot. As @Cool Hand Lucroypointed out, the two added roster spots on 9/1 alleviate any desperation re Hoskins' return since the company line has pretty much pushed his return back to around that date anyway. As to his role, I agree with @markedman5. Yelichs' role stays pretty much the same---DH & keep your glove handy for an occasional appearance in LF (although once Chourio is added his OF stints might start to dry up totally). Hoskins would be available when needed to hit for someone in the bottom 2 or 3 spots in the order and DH vs a particularly tough LHP.
  17. I don't know what it registered on the gun, but it looked to me like a "Two outs, no one on, up by two" opening pitch to Harris. And I too am fine with that. One run game, might've been a different sequence as his breaking ball was pretty nasty all inning.
  18. I thought Quintana was decent today, a very good "fifth starter" type performance which is more-or-less his role these days. Atlanta had a real nice game plan of going the other way, something easier said than done vs him with all the off speed stuff. Then Profar with the HR, which I thought was really earned with his approach/discipline in that AB. All in all, maybe a nice time to be done with Atlanta as they made our pitchers work, really yesterday too. Koenig with a very gratifying 7th inning. And good luck with Uribe if he locates like he did in the 8th. In the inning when Vaughn led off with the HR, I don't know if I ever saw a team have so many hard-hit balls in an inning & only score one run. Baseball. Well-deserved day off. But lay off the creampuffs.
  19. A batting order that includes Yelich, Contreras, Frelick & a guy averaging well over an RBI per game over the last few weeks------and Collins is hitting third. Who had THAT on April 1st?
  20. You gotta hit Harper ahead of Lucroy & play hit & run☺️. As for tonite, Albies has had mucho success vs Quintana so that's something to keep an eye on. Watching the plate discipline from Collins, Vaughn & Durbin has been so much fun.
  21. Looks a little like A & AA Yoho, when he was making hitters look off-the-charts silly.
  22. Remembering him from his first stint up here, Henderson seems to be a good weapon to use vs a team that's never seen him before. Great changeup & everything seems to come out of the same slot consistently. Hopefully we can finish this series off with the 'step on their throat' opportunity.
  23. I don't know about the analytics, but when I watch Seigler at the plate he usually doesn't look overmatched. He just doesn't scream ".180" to me, or whatever it is he's hitting. That said, I'm surprised he's getting the run he's been getting lately.
  24. If they feel the glove can play up a level at this time--and I have no idea if they feel it can--I'd like to see Adamczewski get a taste of A+. The rest I'd leave where they are, except maybe Pena for a very late-season taste. Fischer starting out at Wisco seems to make sense,
