  1. Nothing to lose by stashing him in AAA. And nothing is written saying he's their 1B in 2026. The one scenario where they could've done better is to get a lottery ticket & have it hit in four or five years which is probably just as big of a crapshoot. It IS getting a little crowded in Nashville (assuming that's where he's headed) finding ABs for all the AAAA personnel there. I'd feel a smidge better if he could play a little LF but he hasn't been out there in three years, and for good reason from what I've heard.
  2. Thx, I thought I saw one year. Yeah, he'd be pricey then.
  3. It's almost as if they value his defense, framing & handling of pitchers so much that they'll live with the poor ABs. That doesn't sound appealing to me but neither does Haase catching for a week & a half, and I have no idea what kind of work Siegler turns in behind the plate. If he ever does get IL'ed & they deem Quero not quite up to snuff yet, I wonder if they'd find a way to get Jorge Alfaro on the 40 & up here. He has quite a bit of MLB experience & if they feel he's a better game-caller & defender than Siegler it just seems like something they might consider. Doesn't look like he can hit much anymore but enough power that he might run into one now & then.
  4. Not a bad thought because the Sox could be looking for starting pitching & Duran has a team option for '26 so he might be available. Would certainly have to add a minor leaguer; it just depends on who. I think everyone we talk to in the weeks to come is gonna bring up Arienamo or one of the low-A infielders. And that would only happen if it involves someone we can control for awhile. It would come down to how excited they'd get about Civale or someone like Myers.
  5. The problem is that any non-contender would want a starter with some control/youth on their side. They wouldn't want the Civales or the Quintanas. And I don't believe we have much stomach for dealing the others. It would have to be a deal w/a contending team that has an upgrade at SS/3B they'd be willing to let go. I don't know that there's such a match, and at SS I doubt they'd roll the dice there due to the defensive game Ortiz is giving them (and he IS starting to hit a little). The better odds might be a LF type, and I have no idea who might be on that list.
  6. I think he knows his value on the open market lessens if he's stuck in the BP for the remainder of the year, even if he performs well. And I don't see him exactly shining in that role. Still, I agree with @Trax. Don't just pull a quick trigger for a lotto tic.
  7. I dunno, after reading all this I feel confident that we can hit Sonny Gray tonite. I'm just not sure how we can get him to throw us bottle caps instead of baseballs.
  8. In his first 7 innings, Schwellenbach had no single-inning pitch count over thirteen. I don't know if I've ever seen that. Maybe Maddux. His being so effective combined w/the way we (aren't) swinging the bats is a bad combination. I usually rail about a lack of patience when an opposing starter goes this deep, but not today. He was that good, and the few pitches we got to hit we're mostly fouled off. popped up, etc. Contreras----kudos to him for his hard work behind the dish & how IMO he's gotten so much better at calling games, but geez, every one of his ABs today he looked like he didn't want to be up there. Just terrible. I guess Frelick is our POTG. Two magnificent plays in right, and he actually had a base hit. Like they say, no one is going to feel sorry for you. Not the greatest time to have Sonny Gray coming up next.
  9. There's really no 'right' involved, AFA Chourio is concerned. Contact play, you go. It's not his decision. If any one of the aforementioned 4 things don't go the way of the defense you're probably safe. I get how frustrating it is when it doesn't work, but with one out it's what you usually see teams do. I suspect there are #s for this somewhere that show the odds are much better going contact than if you wait/hope for a 2-out base hit.
  10. Chourio didn't necessarily 'think' he'd be safe. One out. Contact play on a ground ball. I know many hate that but it's pretty much universal throughout MLB, save for a comebacker. You roll the dice on the positioning, the clean pickup & a good throw--not to mention it being a tag play--not all going the way of the defense, as opposed to hoping for a 2-out base hit. Might have gone differently if Contreras didn't go up to the plate as if there was a shot clock on his swinging the bat. Just horrible.
  11. Dinges DOES seem special. Matthew Woods' first foray into AA is going well so far so I hope Dinges sticks in Appleton for most, if not all, of 2025. Continue to polish up the defensive game. If he sticks at C they're really sitting pretty between him & Quero.
  12. I just don't want to see one of those deals where he's called day-to-day & then they decide to IL him after the weekend while in the meantime we've gone 6-7 games a player short. Like @Oxysaid, 'renewed swelling' doesn't sound good.
  13. Yep. I get that they're family & friends of the kid. But I've seen people in such situations print out t-shirts or some such thing. Full-blown Braves' gear is a little strange when you can assume many of them are Brewers' fans since they're from the Madison area. The fact that there were a good # of Braves fans there besides them for whatever reason added to it, plus that the home team got crushed pretty good on Monday. No biggie.
  14. Yeah, between having to watch Braves' stuff postgame ( I usually don't watch pregame) and Madison West grads wearing Braves' gear, I'll be glad when this series is over.
  15. After back-to-back nice outings using the opener, I'm a little concerned about Priester starting the game (if that's what winds up happening). Not that he can't do it but there might be a comfort level there & he's gotten into a nice groove. There's a mental aspect to this game; I just hope this doesn't mess with anything.
  16. As he matures we should see the BB totals grow & the Ks decrease. The sooner the better for that, but hitters mature on different time frames so who knows? If/when Yelich & Contreras get more consistent behind him, you'd think he'd get more to hit. But if the chasing continues he won't. I'm also in the camp that the move to CF might've been a bit of a mental monkey wrench.
  17. The mechanics of that line up pretty well; I like the concept. Ozuna K's quite a bit but that's been somewhat tempered by his drawing a lot of walks as he's matured. And when he hits one of those stretches where he's seeing the ball well.......... The only thing is, this would appear to be strictly a bat-for-prospect deal as you alluded to. But I'd definitely check on what they're thinking. We have this Rosario kid in AAA; maybe they'd be interested.
  18. That's what makes it difficult for me. I'm afraid Dalbec would be a windmill if he faced MLB pitching, but I really don't want another LH bat either. I'd go Rosario in what I think is a pretty tough call.
  19. Hypothetical for the minor-league gurus: If an OF in Milwaukee went on the IL (I know, perish the thought; we've had enough of that already) & it would be between Rosario & Dalbec to get the call, who would we see?
  20. They should certainly consider trades; but the question always is (and needs to be) at what cost? Every year at deadline time, and I'm sure we'll hear it this year as well, is ADD A BAT!!!!!! ADD TWO BATS!!!!! We've had bats available on the market in past years, but I've refrained from complaining when we don't get them because unless you're a fly on the wall you don't know what the cost would've been. They've built a foundation on pitching depth, defense, and upped the level of speed & baserunning while trying to develop hitting. That won't, and shouldn't change. Black(?), Wilken & Boeve missing huge swaths of time hasn't helped. There does seem to be an excess of rotation arms, but that probably necessitates dealing with a contending team which makes it a little trickier.
  21. Ideally, Bauers or Collins should be available if you need a PH late in the game as that's pretty much the best the bench has to offer. So yeah, flipping one for the other hamstrung them.
  22. The more dicey reason is you already spent Monasterio. The reason it's dicey is Haase could play 1B & then you move Monasterio to SS. The better reason is you might have Ortiz' spot come up again, which it did. But Ortiz wasn't lifted THAT time either, so the bottom line is he liked Ortiz hitting more than Haase or Cameron.
  23. I'm far from a big Murphy critic but I'll play today. The Monasterio for Hoskins PR move wasn't totally w/o merit but can be questioned. And please, if anyone hears the presser I'd love to know what led to Peralta not staying in for the Machado AB, and THEN getting lifted. Although Ortiz came up with a hit in the 9th, I'm a little surprised Haase wasn't sent up for him & told to be a modern-day Russell Branyan. This was a frustrating weekend. But if they continue to pitch at a level that holds a team like SD to six runs in three games I'll take my chances, with or without this offense. Obviously we needed much more the last few days from the people they need to count on regardless of anything else----Yelich, Chourio & Contreras.
