So the Brewers decided, at the trade deadline being a 90 percent chance to make the playoffs and had a division lead with the possibility of going into any playoff series with
Burnes - Woody - Peralta
Williams - Hader
Decided to sell?
One of the only possible reasons I can think of (and let me adjust my tin foil hat as I say this) is that things got so bad between Hader and the Brewers behind closed doors that it simply was never gonna work out between the two sides. I know Hader wanted to spend time with his kid but maybe he simply told the Brewers “I’m done with this organization, I’m not representing them in the All Star game. Trade me as soon as possible”.
The Brewers offense continues to score runs after everyone wanted a bat, meanwhile the bullpen which got rid of the best RP in baseball for the past 5 years and replaced it with Rogers (who is fine) and something called Matt Bush can’t keep the lowly pirates off the board. Who knew?
Josh Hader in his career in the post season has a 1.88 era.
He has stuck out 23 in 14.1 innings. He has given up a total of 3 runs, 2 of which were against the nationals in that fluky innings. He gave up a homer to Freddie Freeman (who btw is a really good hitter).
Please stop acting like Josh Hader can’t handle “the pressure situations”. Dude pitched 2 scoreless innings in 2018 to clinch the division on the road in a game 163. He followed that up that year and pitched 10 innings in the postseason and gave up 0 runs with a FIP of 0.26. In those 10 innings he gave up a total of 5 hits.
The Yankees on August 1st 2016 were 6.5 games back of the division lead and in 4th place in the division. They also knew Chapman was gonna re-sign In the off-season. Not really the same situation to be fair
The Braves traded for Eddie Rosario, Joc Pederson, Jorge Soler and Adam Duvall. They legit knew they had a hole and went “screw it, let’s get crazy because we are good enough to win it this year”.
Rosario won NLCS MVP
Soler won World Series MVP.
Devin Williams completely toying with ML hitters. He used his fastball so much more that inning than I’ve seen in the past, instead of just throwing his change up. Beautiful.
Would love to see the Brewers call and ask about Twins 1B/DH Miguel Sano. With his struggles and Arraez at first and the Twins having to rotate AB’s at DH with Buxton now, I think it wouldn’t be the worst flyer and he should be able to get cheap.
Despite his struggles this year, Sano still has a career OPS of .809 and a career OPS+ of 117. He would be able to play first against lefties and DH. He probably would also benefit playing at American Family Field.
