  1. Does anyone else think this is a "statement start" for Sheets? He's been pretty ineffective lately, either because of his shoulder or because he hasn't been any good. If he doesn't pitch well today this board will be burning up with speculation. Hopefully he throws a good one and puts our minds at ease.
  2. Our local in La Crosse doesn't have the game on, not sure why, probably incompetence. Anyway, was there any word why Ginter's not playing today?
  3. Al, I would agree and I assume he'll get called up in September, at least. My gripe with Nance is that, for all his dominance in AAA, he seems to get to Mil. and stop trusting his stuff. He has been a nibbler all year at the big-league level, it would be nice to see him get another shot and just pound the strike zone.
  4. Someone please tell us he'll be in the lineup for sure tonight or I may just die. Maybe we should have a Brewerfan nation poll to see how many members now want Weeks to sit again tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. David, I agree with you on this (gasp!). Kinney has given up a lot of 3 run HRs and Grand Slams this season. He seems to make bad mistakes with guys on base a lot. He'll cruise until he gets a baserunner or two, then leave a fat pitch out there that gets crushed. This could keep him from becoming a top of the rotation starter. I'm not sure how he would fix this, or if he even could, but it would be nice to see him bear down a battle harder when he gets men on base. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I can't see why any team would take Gold in the Rule V draft. Basically they would be paying $250,000 (his salary plus draft fee) to watch the guy sit on the DL and accrue service time. No way that happens.
  7. Hey MassBrew, first of all, thanks for all the work you do on the daily link. It is a must-read for me and I can't thank you enough. Second, have you heard anything more on Charlie Fermaint? It seems he has missed 4 or 5 games now.
  8. Well, at least we agree on Ginter. It will be a great day for me if (when?) EY is traded.
  9. Brewmann, I don't want to get into this with you again, but, save for his last outing, Brooks has been very good in July. I have no problem with him pitching in that situation.
  10. FYI, VDLS has better numbers for July than Kolb does. I'm not saying I would argue with Kolb being brought in to pitch the 9th, I just don't have a problem with VDLS being in there either. It certainly isn't as clear-cut as you seem to think it is. VDLS game by game milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...statType=2 Kolb game by game milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...statType=2
  11. Brewmann, considering Berkman doubled off VDLS in the 9th and scored the tying run, then homered off Kolb in the 11th for the winning run, why was Kolb such an obvious choice in the 9th. He's been pretty good so far, but he's only pitched in about 10 games, I don't see why he should be handed the closer's job at this point. I think Yost made the right choice in the 9th, it just didn't work out.
  12. Some of these moves are really odd. The new regime came in & said they were going to preach patience with advancing their prospects, with guidelines for each player on how & when they would be bumped up. So, what were Brad Nelson's goals? 160 ABs? More than 10 extra base hits? 1 HR? I think it's clear the organization feels a lot of pressure to get these kids up sooner rather than later. If it weren't for playoff races we would probably see Parra, Sarfate, Fielder, Gwynn, Ramirez & Palmisano all bumped up. I don't see these moves as a reaction to pressure to get kids moved up. In Nelson's case, he had an injury that prevented him from getting the number of PAs that the organization thought he would get in HD. To me, that's no reason to not move him up if they think he's ready. Also, the top prospects in an organization are going to get treated differently than the 'middling' ones and Nelson is clearly a top prospect. It makes sense to me to give him ABs in AA ball this year and let him start there next season, as the jump from A to AA is generally regarded as the toughest step in the promotion ladder (at least that's what I've heard).
  13. Jason, you are probably right, but you don't know what might happen if Rusch pitches well in his next start and someone is desperate to add another starter, especially LH. Also, given Rusch's performance to date I would think Milwaukee would be able to get him through waivers and trade him in August if he strings together a good 4 or 5 start stretch.
  14. Okay, who is the guy pitching and what did he do with Glendon Rusch? I mean, is Glendon's family worried at all that he's missing? Why hasn't ESPN reported anything on this?
  15. From just reading about it, it doesn't sound like they are"popping" off to the media. It sounds like HD has legitimate concerns and frustrations thats all. Maybe they are legitimate, maybe not. We don't know and we've only heard HD's side of the argument. My point is just that you have to take their complaints with a grain of salt right now, as they are very frustrated with the performance of the team. So far this year we've heard complaints from HD and Indy, none (that I can recall) from Huntsville or Beloit. Doesn't that at least make you wonder how legitimate the complaints are?
  16. And maybe the reason we haven't heard anything from Huntsville or Beloit is the fact that they are winning. Exactly my point. IMO, I don't think we'd be hearing about this stuff from HD or Indy if their teams were winning. The affiliates have seen a management change and are now not competitive, so I don't think anyone should be surprised that they are popping off about the new management.
  17. I don't know if there are huge communication issues. We don't seem to hear any grumblings from Beloit or Huntsville. I'm sure a big part of it is just frustration at the way High Desert has played this year and the skipping of HD by some prospects (Jones altogether, Clark & Johnson left early). Given the dearth of prospects at High Desert there probably isn't much to talk about there anyway.
  18. For Weeks I think it means he won't play this year either. I don't think it impacts one way or another on the Brewers signing him as that will come down to money. Unfortunately, the Rickie watch won't begin until next year. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  19. Wow, Palmisano is down to .393. Major slump!
  20. I don't think it would cost extra money to get Weeks signed to a minor league deal. I think Tampa's main motivation in considering a Major League deal is that they can spread out the signing bonus over the 3 or 4 years of the contract, as opposed to having to pay it off all at once. You only need look as far as Cincy and Wily Mo Pena to see how little sense that type of deal makes. In my mind Weeks doesn't have a lot of leverage to try and get a ML deal. He really can't do much more at Southern and, unless Mil. is really lowballing him with money he would be crazy not to sign. In fact, if he held out for a major league deal I would have no problem in letting him go back into the draft next year.
  21. Missoula 2, Helena 1 in game 1 of the DH. Don't know any details, but Palmisano (aka Palsmo) did have a hit (1 for 3) to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. EDIT: Captain Lou with an RBI single in the 1st inning of game 2. Streak now at 20 games.
  22. Hey Kaukauna, I was kind of in the same boat as you. Back in the 5th I said to myself, "No way the Brewers win with 7 runs." Yes, it does feel good to be wrong. By the way, the Kaukauna Ghosts is one of my all-time favorite team names. Any idea how they came to be the Ghosts? Edit to correct spelling of Kaukauna.
  23. Man, it is amazing how fast a thread can deteriorate around here.
  24. mls, like most bad teams, the Brewers offense is streaky. Some days they get hits with RISP like crazy and others they struggle and leave a lot of guys on base. On days when the offense struggles it's important that the pitching staff keep the team in the game until the offense can put together some runs. Against the Cubs the Brewers did that, winning 2 games in their final ABs. Against the Twins yesterday, they didn't do that. Do you blame the bullpen? Not exclusively, because the Brewers certainly blew other scoring chances in the game. The frustrating part for me is that they made some great plays in the 8th to hold the lead, then its given away in the 9th with a BB and a HBP contributing to the final loss. The opposition is going to hit, rally, and beat the Brewers late sometimes, I just don't like the fact that this loss seemed to be more due to Brewer mistakes.
  25. xis, I'm sure they offered him a contract, but was it real or was it the minimum needed to retain his rights? I'm feeling aggrieved because I'm not hearing anything. Don't they know this is the information age?!? I expect the Drudge Report to have a daily Rickie update, when I don't see it (I haven't yet) I get nervous. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Maybe this is all being held up by Rickie's agent, who wants to crank out the billable hours before Rickie signs. Anyway, I just want to see Rickie signed and playing so we can start analyzing him on a daily basis.
