  1. Is anyone else concerned about this? Last year Fielder was in Ogden from game 1. This year we have heard basically nothing about Weeks. I know they had a meeting, have they even offered him anything? I have felt since the day after the draft that this could be a long, drawn out, difficult signing, it looks like that's the way it's going. I don't like this. Has anyone heard anything about Delmon Young and negotiations with Tampa Bay? If he gets signed we should at least get an idea what kind of money Weeks would command. Jeez, I hope this gets done sooner rather than later.
  2. I don't get putting in Viz in this situation, given what has happened with him this year. Why not Estrella or DeJean? You have 2 guys who haven't given up 900 foot HRs to Sosa this series, but you bring in the guy that has? Again, I don't get it. Edit: What a great, gutsy move by Yost! Clearly the first part of my post should be ignored.
  3. Who's the Indy League catcher Weiser referred to?
  4. I guess it wouldn't be a home game if the Brewers weren't down after half an inning.
  5. Heard at Yost's press conference: "I still believe in Glendon. He had a tough night, but he battled for 1 inning and kept us in the game through the first 4 hitters. So I saw some positives out there tonight. I still think Glendy is going to get on a roll soon. Don't forget, his performance made it possible for the bullpen to pitch 8 innings and give up only 1 unearned run. If the bullpen can keep hanging numbers like that I don't mind running Glendy out there every 5 days."
  6. I'm not sure why but I saw somewhere in another thread (it may have been a newspaper article link) that Opdyke is looking in the $800,000 range, so his signing could take a while. Also, I expect Weeks to be drawn out. Bud has made it clear that he wants signing bonuses to decrease this year. No agent wants that to happen. There is no way the Brewers are going to be the first team to make an offer outside of Bud's parameters and no agent wants to be the first one to accept an offer that is not slightly higher than the value of the contract signed by the player picked in the same slot last year. I'm sure Weeks is starting around $4.5-5 million, Milwaukee will be starting around $3-3.25. That's a big gap and it will take a while to bridge it.
  7. I think the Brewers are waiting for Tampa Bay to sign Delmon Young I would guess that Rickie's agent is waiting more than the Brewers are. If it was up to Milwaukee they would get him signed right now. Rickie's agent won't want to leave any money on the table, so he'll want to wait and see what Tampa does to set the market.
  8. Maybe next year when he jumps up in the draft or as a DFE guy if he struggles in college? Just looking for clarification on this. As I understand it, if a HS draftee goes to a 4-year D1 university he is then not eligible for the draft until after his Junior year. If he goes to any other type of secondary school he could be elgible next year for the draft again. I assume that a draftee is no longer a DFE candidate if he attends a 4-year D1 university. Am I correct on these?
  9. I have to say, the guys who can run scare me...I'd rather have some guys who can hit. I'm fearful of Fermaint and all the raw speedster types. Someday maybe one of those guys will work out...but a lot just never hit enough. Listening to Jack Z. I got the feeling that they didn't feel great about there being a lot of true position 'baseball players' in this draft, so they went with a lot of athletes. I sort of agree with you on the speed vs. hitting thing, but Krynzel and Hardy have been touted as very athletic after they were drafted and they seem to be working out. I'm a little nervous over Jack Z. emphasizing to Powell that Weeks hasn't signed yet (he mentioned it a couple times). Maybe he was just being restrained, but I don't remember hearing comments like this last year with Fielder.
  10. Reminiscent of Greg Harris, who could almost get to 80 as a LHP. He had a special glove made that he could wear on either hand. He wanted to pitch both ways in a game, but I don't think he was ever allowed to by his teams.
  11. Al is gonna hate this guy. www.bethelcollege.edu/spo...terman.htm
  12. Brian Updike High School catcher, no info on MLB.com.
  13. Link to MLB.com player info. mlb.mlb.com/mlb/draftday/...e_F_1.html Danagger, he's listed as a LF there, but says he has little outfield experience. Appears to be a slap hitter with speed, but maybe will develop power as he gets older.
  14. MLB.com says he has 'warning track power.' That sounds awesome!!
  15. Okay, if Tampa was to pick Harvey, who should the Brewers pick? My vote would be for DY.
  16. Colby, you forgot to include a choice for 'All of the above.'
  17. Getting back to Weeks, it sounds like signability could be an issue. According to Jim Callis, who was interviewed on the Brewer pregame show tonight, there is some talk that Weeks might be asking for $6 million to sign. His thought is, if the $6 million is true, the Brewers might shy away because the Commish's office 'recommends' signing amounts for draft positions. Since the Commish owns the team it would look very bad for Bud if his team went out and exceeding the slot amount by a great deal. Not sure how true this is, but Callis said it and I figured it would be food for thought.
  18. Does anyone know if Raburn played barehanded on Tuesday??
  19. Has there been an announcement on Rushford yet or are you all just speculating?
  20. MB, when you said you were worried about 'The Man' who were you talking about?
  21. Nice to see Bill Hall finally coming around with his bat, although I won't consider him a prospect until he learns to catch the ball as well. Any word on J.M. Gold?? How serious is his shoulder(?) problem?
  22. Did all three outfielders fall down on Fielder's triple??
