We dig into that a bit as Nashville is set to end its season Sunday. Transaction: Milwaukee Brewers sent LHP Rob Zastryzny outright to Nashville Sounds. At this point purely a paper move, as Rob Z would likely reject the assignment to get an earlier start on minor league free agency, or the Brewers would release him to accommodate the same. Is it possible he accepts the assignment and then stays in the Brewers' "stay ready" camp they are maintaining during the postseason, perhaps. (Andrew Fischer mentioned he is among the invitees). After Nashville regained a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Redbirds scored seven unanswered to give Nashville its eighth series loss of the year. The four-game losing streak is tied for the longest of the year for Nashville and their first four-game slide since June 12-16. After Jonathan Ornelas led off the game with his fourth straight at-bat with a hit since the third inning on Friday night, Brandon Lockridge put the Sounds in front by a pair of runs with a two-run blast and his first home run since July 29 vs. Charlotte. After that, Memphis' starter Josh Fleming retired 12 straight before Ramon Rodriguez reached first on the lone Redbirds error of the game. Three straight singles followed including an RBI single for Ornelas to give the Sounds a 3-2 lead after the Redbirds plated an unearned run off Nashville starter Bryse Wilson in the second inning and a Jimmy Crooks sac fly in the fifth off Kaleb Bowman. The Redbirds answered the Nashville run in the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff home run off Bowman in the top of the sixth and added two more runs in the seventh off four hits with Grant Anderson on the mound in his second rehab appearance of the week. They added three more runs in the eighth off Carlos Rodriguez on a pair of hits and ended the game with at least one run in five straight innings on a leadoff homer in the top of the ninth off Sounds reliever Blake Holub. Akil Baddoo ended a run of nine straight Sounds batters retired with a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth but saw each of the next two retired by Hancel Rincon. The final game of the 2026 season is on-deck tomorrow as the Sounds look to avoid ending the year on a season-long five-game losing streak while the first-half Champion Redbirds await their opponent in the International League Championship Series. Rochester, Syracuse, and Indianapolis are all still alive to secure the second half championship entering the final day of the regular season. First pitch of Sunday's season finale is scheduled for 5:05 pm at First Horizon Park. POSTGAME NOTES: SOUNDS SO CRISP: Brandon Lockridge clubbed his second homer in two seasons for the Sounds with a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the first inning, finishing the game with a 1-for-3 night and two RBI. His first homer of the season was on July 29 against the Charlotte Knights when he was on a Major League Rehab assignment. Lockridge is one homer shy of hitting the half-century mark (49) for his minor league career. Saturday night was his first multi-RBI game since September 3 against Louisville and third overall in 24 games with Nashville. CONSISTENT: Jonathan Ornelas tallied his second consecutive multi-hit game, finishing Saturday night 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored. It's the seventh time Ornelas has collected two or more hits in at least two straight games this year. He collected his first double with the Sounds Saturday and was the 16th overall this season between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Las Vegas and Nashville, which is the fifth-most in a season of his professional career. YOU AND THE 6: Eduardo Garcia extended his hit and on-base streak to six consecutive games, going 1-for-3 on Saturday night. His six-game hitting streak is the longest of his 2026 season after posting a five-game streak earlier this season with Double-A Biloxi. Over his last six games since September 11, he is hitting .316 (6-for-19) with a home run and two RBI. Over the final month of the regular season, Garcia leads the club in OBP (.340) and T-1st in HR (2). He ranks 2nd in SLG (.405) and OPS (.745) and 4th in AVG (.262) and hits (11). *** Yet another bullpen game, and there was really no choice in the matter. Refresh yourself with a review of the Nashville roster on the pitching side. There is not a semblance of a rotation available. I fear this is the new reality of baseball as a whole, but in particular AAA baseball, in future seasons. It's not aesthetically pleasing in the slightest, and it's not just a yearning for a more traditional landscape in this regard. Overall, the Sounds have been successful in 2026, tied for the 6th best record currently among twenty teams. But at any point, did the Nashville season generate true excitement? Here's the complete statistical position player page, and the pitcher page. Personally, I found full enjoyment in detailing Luis Lara's exploits through 78 AAA games. Beyond that, it's very tough to say. For other notes, the long-awaited return of Jeferson Quero to see action behind the plate regularly never developed. His continued biceps issue ramifications are certainly of concern long-term. Bryse Wilson pitched well, Carlos Rodriguez was given another chance and did not. Neither did Grant Anderson, who missed out on the clinching celebration and now perhaps a postseason spot as well. Seeing the Redbirds plate seven runs in the top of the sixth, Nashville scored three of the final four runs in the 8-6 loss, including a ninth inning home run for Jonathan Ornelas. For the second straight night, Nashville struck first as Akil Baddoo got the Sounds on the board with an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning (video). Following three consecutive singles to begin the bottom of the fifth, Brock Wilken cashed in with the bases loaded to give the Sounds a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to deep left field (video). After holding the Redbirds scoreless through five innings, Memphis strung together seven runs on six hits off Nashville's Edwin Jimenez in the top of the sixth. Following a leadoff walk and flyout, each of the next six batters all reached base on five hits and a walk. The Redbirds batted around in an inning for the third straight game and Jimenez's night came to an end after a two-RBI double for Chase Davis to cap the seven-run inning. Jared Koenig struck out the lone batter he was asked to face in relief to push his consecutive appearances to nine without an earned run allowed. (VIDEOS: There are six clips posted to the Memphis 'X' feed, you'll notice that for five of them, in the scorebug in the lower-right, Edwin Jimenez is listed as the pitcher.) Nashville responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Baddoo started the inning with a walk off Austin Love in relief of Brandt Thompson. Back-to-back doubles for Tyler Black and Ethan Murray inched Nashville closer at 7-4 (video of the Murray RBI double). Ornelas walked to start the bottom of the seventh as he reached base in his third straight at-bat and scored on a two-out triple for Baddoo who earned his second RBI of the game to make it a two-run game (no video on the Baddoo triple). It was a quiet eighth for Nashville after infielder Daniel Guilarte pitched in relief for a second night in a row and allowed a run on two hits as Memphis pushed their lead back to three. Murray also made another relief appearance in the top of the ninth and tossed a 1-2-3 inning for a second night in a row. Ornelas greeted Ryan Fernandez into the game with a leadoff solo shot for his third hit and run scored and got his first home run as a member of the Sounds and first since July 29 when he was with Triple-A Las Vegas. Fernandez retired three straight on back-to-back strikeouts and a diving play stop at second base for Noah Mendlinger to officially thwart Nashville's comeback aspirations. The Sounds will look to end the three-game slide as the series continues Saturday night at First Horizon Park in the second-to-last game of the season for Nashville. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. POSTGAME NOTES: 80-PIECE: Brock Wilken recorded his 80th RBI for the Sounds this season with his sac fly in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wilken ranks T-6th in the International League in RBI and 6th in the Brewers farm system this season. He is now the 10th different Sounds hitter to unload 80+ RBI in a single season and is T-9th for the most RBI in a single season since 2005. Matt Davidson's 101 RBI in 2019 are the most for Nashville over the span and finished as the 4th-most in a single-season overall in Sounds franchise history. DAILY DOS: Akil Baddoo went 2-for-4 on Friday night with a double and a triple, recording his 46th and 47th RBI of the season for the Sounds. Baddoo's 47 RBI are the third-most on the team behind Brock Wilken (80) and Jeferson Quero (69). He tacked on his third triple of the season and his 10th double, which is tied for the sixth-most with Luke Adams and Luis Lara for Nashville this season. It was the team's 39th triple of the season, which leads all 20 International League teams and is the fifth-most at the Triple-A level. Baddoo has now recorded the team's last two triples after also hitting one on September 11 at Durham. The 28-year-old posted his 16th multi-hit and 12th multi-RBI games for the Sounds this season and ties with Tyler Black for the second-most multi-hit games among the Sounds active roster behind Jeferson Quero (25). It was his second multi-hit game this week and the fifth in his last 10 games played. FIRST OF MANY: Jonathan Ornelas recorded his first multi-hit game since joining the Sounds on September 2 as he finished Friday night 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs, a RBI, and walk. The solo blast and the three-hit night marked his first long ball since July 29 at Oklahoma City when he was with Triple-A Las Vegas. Ornelas has tallied 12 homers across his three Triple-A stops this season between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Las Vegas, and Nashville. It marked his first three-hit night since June 9 against Lehigh Valley when he was with the RailRiders and went 4-for-4, posting a career-high four doubles in the game. He has now recorded three or more hits six times this season. CONTROLLING THE WAGON: Cameron Wagoner extended his streak to nine consecutive games without allowing a run in Friday's game, tossing a scoreless seventh inning with a strikeout and bringing his ERA down to 0.56 with the Sounds through his first 14 Triple-A games. Since the start of his streak on August 20, Wagoner has allowed five hits, struck out 14 hitters and walked three bringing his total innings pitched to 10.2 IP, which now surpasses Joel Kuhnel (10.1 IP) for the longest-active streak without an earned run by innings pitched on the team. Jared Koenig also extended his streak of not allowing a run to nine straight games (7.2 IP) after striking out the lone batter he faced on Friday night. Koenig has not allowed a hit over his last eight appearances (6.1 IP) and carries a 2.21 ERA through 23 total appearances for the Sounds this year. Over his last 13 games, he has surrendered just three hits over his last 13.0 IP with 11 strikeouts to three walks. The nine game streaks for Wagoner and Koenig are tied for the 11th-longest active streak in the International League with two games remaining in the season. So yes, once again Manager Rick Sweet grits his teeth knowing it's all for the sake of the big-league Crew, but his scheduled starting pitcher for this game, lefty Colton Gordon, was summoned to Milwaukee. That led to yet another bullpen mishmash trying to survive this final stretch of games and innings. Of course, Jimenez' implosion in his AAA debut didn't help the cause. Thus, we had position players entering to pitch with the Sounds down only 7-5 entering the 8th inning. Whether Daniel Guilarte and Ethan Murray pitched well or not (they did) isn't really the point. It's actually good given the situation that Nashville didn't need this game for a playoff chase. Murray has had to pitch eight times, each for exactly one inning. He has survived but still seeks his first strikeout, However, it was a fantastic AAA debut for 22-year-old RHP Joshua Quezada with 2.2 scoreless frames (some credit actually does go to Jimenez, who stranded two of Quezada's baserunners upon entering the game before the brutal following inning). Hopefully Quezada got to save his Biloxi jersey from his lone appearance there. The young man would then have a 2026 four-jersey collection, and it'll become five when he joins his Arizona Fall League team soon. Via Quezada's MiLB Player Page - Fireballing Cameron Wagoner will miss instructional contact with the team and then potential playing time if there's an extended lockout, but he's now a must-add to the 40-man roster this fall. We could definitely see him placed on the 28-man active roster to get a big-league look-see in the final week once the Brewers lock up playoff seeding. Blake Burke fanned at a 23.7 rate with Biloxi; it's now 32.2% with the Sounds. LHP Thomas Pannone looks to bounce back in his second start after perfect game glory, so expect something statistically between his most recent efforts. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis (Cardinals) 11, Nashville 1 Box Score and Game Log Via Cory Hilborne, Nashville's Communications Manager (Video clips, links and follow-up commentary via yours truly) Sounds Avoid Shutout Late in 10-Run Loss to Redbirds Brock Wilken Tallys 17th Home Run of the Season NASHVILLE – Nashville avoided the shutout loss on Wednesday night with a late home run from Brock Wilken as the Sounds fell 11-1 at First Horizon Park. Memphis scored nine of their 11 runs through four innings, including a five-run 2nd. Colton Ledbetter jumped on the very first offering of the night from Sounds' starter Carlos Rodriguez for a leadoff solo blast and the Redbirds never looked back. The Redbirds tacked on another five runs off Rodriguez in the second off three hits, three walks, and an error as they batted around in the inning. Rodriguez finished with six runs allowed (4 ER) on six hits with four walks. Lyon Ricardson stranded three as he struck out the first man he faced in relief of Rodriguez. The Sounds used six pitchers plus infielder Ethan Murray on the mound in the loss. None of the six true relievers worked more than 1.2 IP with Richardson and Cameron Wagoner getting the Sounds through the fifth inning. Despite 11 runs on 13 hits Memphis totaled on the night, Nashville had five different pitchers work a 1-2-3 inning. Richardson worked around a leadoff single in the third, and Wagoner struck out two in the top of the fifth. It was the start of four straight innings where Sounds' pitchers faced the minimum. Rob Zastryzny faced just three in his lone inning of work as did Grant Anderson in his first action of his most recent Major League rehab assignment and Jared Koenig in the eighth inning. That streak ended in the ninth as Murray allowed two runs on three hits, including the second Redbirds home run of the night. Offensively for the Sounds, Brandon Lockridge recorded another multi-hit game at the plate; his third in his last four games as he extended his hitting streak to six straight games. Jeferson Quero ended a run of 10 straight Nashville batters retired by Jurrangelo Cijntje with a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth but was followed by a flyout and inning-ending double play. The Sounds threatened in the seventh with the bases loaded on two walks and a hit by pitch but failed to push their first run across. Wilken finally did so in the eighth with a no-doubter to left-center field to break up the shutout bid for the Redbirds and get his 17th home run of the season. Two at-bats later, Lockridge doubled for his second hit of the night and final knock of the game for Nashville, who finished with five or fewer hits in a game for the 37th time this season. The Sounds will look to bounce back on Thursday night with left-hander Tate Kuehner (2-2, 5.03 ERA) scheduled to get the start for Nashville against fellow southpaw Mason Molina and the Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. POSTGAME NOTES: BROCKET: Brock Wilken hit his 17th homer of the season on a solo bomb to left field as he finished the night 1-for-3 (HR, RBI, BB, R, K). Wilken's 17 homers on the year are tied for the second-most in his professional career along with his 2024 season for Double-A Biloxi. The solo shot was his second over his last eight games played when he homered during the last series at First Horizon Park on September 6 vs. Louisville. It was his 79th RBI for the Sounds, which leads the team and ranks sixth in the International League among qualified hitters this season. He also ranks sixth in RBI and now sits 10th in homers among minor league hitters in the Brewers' farm system. THAT'S A LOCK: Brandon Lockridge extended his hit streak and on-base streak to six consecutive games Wednesday night, posting a base hit in the bottom of the first inning. He ended the night going 2-for-4 with a double against the Redbirds. The six-game hit streak in the second longest-active streak on the team behind Bo Naylor (9). He is hitting .391 (9-for-23), adding three doubles, three RBI and two runs since the start of his streak on September 9 at Durham. In his second stint with the Sounds, Lockridge has tallied a hit in 14-of-the-17 games he has appeared in since August 23. Wednesday night was his second straight multi-hit game with Nashville; third in his last four games; and sixth overall in 22 games played for Nashville this season. LOAD THE WAGON: Cameron Wagoner extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to eight consecutive games (9.1 IP), allowing no hits and striking out two batters in 1.2 scoreless innings of work against the Redbirds Wednesday night. The 9.1 innings pitched for Wagoner is the second longest-active streak behind Joel Kuhnel (10.1 IP). Wagoner and Jared Koenig both got to eight straight games on Wednesday night, becoming the 10th & 11th different Sounds pitcher to go 8+ consecutive games without allowing an earned run this season and are tied for 12th in the International League among the active pitchers. FIVE BELOW: The Sounds were once again held to five hits or less in the 11-1 loss to Memphis Wednesday night. It was the 37th time Nashville has been held to five hits or less this season and the 18th time at home. The 37 games surpassed the 36 games from last year, but the Sounds recording 20-of-the-36 from a season ago at home and can avoid surpassing that number with 5+ hits in three of the final four games remaining this year. Nashville had 40 games with five or less hits during the 2024 season and have had 185 overall since joining the International League in 2021. Nashville has had 530 such games in the regular season overall since 2005, including 293 at home. Well, certainly not the way two-time Brewers Organization Pitcher of the Year (2022, 2023) Carlos Rodriguez wished to close out his career with the Crew.
