Catcher Jose Sibrian removed from the initial post after his release. The organization certainly squeezed every bit of leadership from Sibrian in his playoff run with the Mudcats. Perhaps the player and his representative made it clear he was going to pursue minor league free agency vigorously, and not return for a 9th year with the Crew (the eight years includes pandemic 2020), and the Brewers are providing a head start.

Wish we had better news out of Saturday's results. We can't fault the efforts of a Biloxi club that fought valiantly throughout the second half, but just had to compete side-by-side for months with a Montgomery Biscuits team that simply would not fully step aside. Hold your heads high, Shuckers, but yeah, it's a sour Sunday morning recap. There are interesting tidbits below, so let's dig in. Bottom of the 8th, Biloxi facing the same 2-1 deficit they had since the 4th inning. Chourio led off the 6th with an infield single but was immediately eliminated on a Wilken GIDP. A week grounder to second base off Jackson's bat ended the 8th. There was a very eventful and unfortunate sequence in the bottom of the 4th involving catcher Jeferson Quero and Manager Mike Guerrero. We have it detailed for you here, please review. Zavier Warren attempted to rescue the Shuckers with a two-out double in the 9th. Is Warren that "slow"? With Guerrero out, the Shuckers bench chose to pinch-run for Warren (6-for-9 in SB attempts this season) with Ernesto Martinez. That left only OF Lamar Sparks on the bench. Seldom-used catcher Nick Kahle had entered the game for Quero after the injury you read about at the prior link. Sparks could have been utilized with designated hitter Wes Clarke moved out of the DH spot to move behind the plate in the 10th inning. Or better yet, Martinez could have simply pinch-hit for Kahle. When Kahle popped out to end things, one wondered what impact the Mike Guerrero ejection had on those late bench decisions. No matter how you shake it, this defeat, like the Carolina loss Friday night to end their season, was very frustrating. Kudos to TJ Shook, James Meeker, and Cam Robinson on their mound efforts. Sigh... Final: Charlotte (White Sox) 9, Nashville 3 Sounds Winning Streak Comes to Screeching Halt - Dorrian knocks three hits but Sounds lose 9-3 to Charlotte Pre-Game Media Notes Box Score / Wrap RISP: 1-for-16 Caleb Boushley with an unfortunate starting effort, Luis Contreras allowing three of Boushley's inherited runners to score. Despite a 38-29 record in the second half, the Sounds elimination number with seven games remaining is down to just three, because, of course, the Rays' minor league rolling pin saw Durham win yet again. Brewers have released LHP's Josh Shapiro and Fraudy Maldonado, as per MiLB's Transactions Page. It would be easy for many fans to not be familiar with this pair of southpaws. Shapiro has not pitched since his draft season of 2019 (34th round out of Marshall). The entirety of Shapiro's pro career will be his 12 appearances in Maryvale (three starts). The pandemic eliminated the 2020 season, and Shapiro underwent Tommy John surgery early in the 2021 season, though we don't know the surgery month. We also don't know the circumstances (follow-up procedures, other setbacks?) that have prevented Shapiro from taking a mound in earnest since that rookie campaign four years ago. We hope Shapiro, now 26 years old, is fully healthy at this point. Maldonado was signed by the Crew in May of 2021. The 6'0", 155 lb. (listed at the time) Dominican native originally signed with the Mets in the July 2019 signing period. However, he was released before ever suiting up for the Mets' organization. Maldonado would make 32 relief appearances across 2021-2022 with a tough 1.76 WHIP (35 walks and nine HBP's in 38.2 IP). He would strike out 52 in those innings, so the arm was there, but not in 2023, when he was sidelined from the start with an undisclosed (but obviously serious) injury. Maldonado is still just 20 years old, and we wish him well, whether his pro baseball journey ends here or not.
