  1. Mudcats' Opening Night is Friday 4/7 - at Fayetteville (Astros) The Carolina formal announcement next week will come directly from the Mudcats, not the Brewers. Wisconsin and Carolina will send out their press releases next week within an hour or so of each other once the Brewers have given them the official go-ahead to do so. Feel free to link to any formal Mudcats notices you see here. Often, we learn via player tweets, who has been assigned where, prior to the formal affiliate announcements. We'll link to any of those posts in this thread as they come out. As you might know, we use the "Your 2023" team threads to post and link to feature stories, including audio and video, that are outside the scope of game activity covered in the Daily Minor League Link Report. These threads have become among the most popular for viewing here, and we look forward to kicking them off formally. Please do not speculate on any player releases. Brewers Player Development or MiLB.com will update us formally.

  7. Mark Mathias optioned by Pittsburgh. Trevor Kelley optioned by Tampa. Kelley had just been added to the Rays' 40-man recently.
  8. Sunday 3/26:Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "On this last episode before the start of the regular season, the guys broke down the NL Central Race, picked division, World Series and award winners for around the game and took a bunch of fantastic listener questions about the season to come." Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "The first week of the MLB season is here! First, the Brewers have some loose ends to tie up in camp. What's going on with Luke Voit? And if he doesn't wind up getting a spot on this team, does that mean the Brewers will break camp with three rookie outfielders (Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick, Joey Wiemer) on the roster? Brewers reporter Curt Hogg is in Arizona for the falling action of 2023 spring training, and he joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss the enigmatic career trajectory of Keston Hiura now that it appears his Brewers run is over. What are the repercussions to the roster if Adrian Houser has to open on the injured list? Rule 5 pick Gus Varland has got to make the team, right? How are we feeling as we get set for a new season?" Via the "Brewers Babes" Podcast: "In this episode Erin and Lisa discuss the tweaks to the new 2023 rules, including a ridiculous new rule about bat boys and bat girls. We talk about the WBC and why the games were so enjoyable to watch. We share our Sausage Race and Fielders Choice picks and talk about our opening Day lineup predictions and plans."
  9. Brewers yet to announce the release of RH reliever Kent Hasler, but this tweet from his performance coach indicates the 27-year-old has indeed been let go. Hasler was excellent to begin 2022 at Wisconsin before being bumped to a cameo Nashville appearance in June. Three days later came a transfer to AA Biloxi where Hasler settled in for the balance of the season. This spring saw Hasler invited to big league games on a few occasions and he retired the one batter he faced upon entering. Hasler was signed by the Brewers in May of 2021. He had three summers of independent ball under his belt after his Louisiana Tech college career. Hasler was actually inked in February of 2020 by the Diamondbacks, but the pandemic saw his affiliated dream take a pause when Arizona released him just two months later. Hoping Kent lands another spot in short order. This is an indication Monday (perhaps Sunday) could be a rough day on the formal release announcement front.
  10. Blake Nation is the new Development Coach for one of the DSL clubs. RH reliever Zach Vannaro should see time with Nashville this season. They were together in their college wood bat summer league days in New York State.
  11. RHP Nash Walters (3rd round, 2015) released by the Angels. Walters faced three batters (H, BB, out) in the season finale for the Angels last fall in his MLB debut. Walters had been outrighted and re-signed after the season. RHP Eric Yardley released by Arizona, where he was in camp on a minor-league deal.
  12. Friday 3/24:Reviewing the Brew's" Cold Brew Podcast: "Co-hosts David Gasper and Matt Carroll take a deep dive into the Milwaukee Brewers roster decisions as Opening Day approaches. There are battles for jobs in the bullpen, the infield, and the outfield. Who could take those spots and who might miss out? David and Matt dissect each situation. Plus, the Phillies now have a need at first base after an injury to Rhys Hoskins. Could the Brewers look to trade one of their spare first basemen? There's a lot of reasons to do so."

  18. Extended is not the right word, but brief discussion may be --
  19. Fantastic perspective provided, sir, thanks! Although these three players don't fall within the "seven-year" parameters as those listed and were understandably not included in the article here, they all re-signed last fall upon reaching a similar circumstance, seven years all with the Crew: So at the end of 2023, these players would be ending Year Eight: RHP Harold Chirino RHP Lucas Erceg C Jose Sibrian (We are including RHP Caleb Boushley as having spent his full career with the Crew, considering he was picked up in Minor League Rule 5 and thus has never reached minor league free agency.)
  20. Sunday 3/19:Latest Milwaukee Tailgate Podcast - "The time has come to preview the hitting, so Jaymes walked Paul and Ryan through the lineup position by position to analyze where they're at and where they might end up by seasons end, mixing in your questions along the way and trying to figure out what the opening day roster might look like. Then they made fun of Keith Olbermann for a bit."
