  1. Scottsdale wins, 6-2, Monday afternoon Braun carries Scorpions over Sags Ryan Braun tripled, doubled and plated two runs to lead visiting Scottsdale to a 6-2 victory over the Peoria Saguaros on Monday. The Milwaukee third-base prospect drove in Steve Moss with a double in the two-run first inning and brought home Kevin Frandsen with a triple in the three-run third as the Scorpions jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Frandsen's average dropped to .421 after he went 1-for-4 with a run scored. He holds a slim lead in the AFL batting race after Yunel Escobar went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .410. Scottsdale (15-14) scored all its runs off Peoria starter Stuart Pomeranz (1-2), who pitched a four-hitter over five scoreless innings in his last outing. The St. Louis prospect couldn't get an out in the third and watched his ERA rise to 9.00 after giving up seven hits, walking three and striking out one. A trio of Saguaros relievers kept the Scorpions off the board the rest of the way, but Peoria (13-16) couldn't get anything going against starter Steven Jackson and five others. Jackson left after allowing a run on five hits and a walk while fanning four over four innings. Wesley Whisler (1-1) picked up the win with a perfect sixth. The Scorpions have won four of their last five, while the Saguaros have lost three of four. -- Dan Friedell/MLB.com Audio available here from the 13th: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p?sid=l119 Box Score / Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...n_peswin_1 Audio of this sequence begins at the 3:45 mark: - Steve Moss doubles (3) on a ground ball to left fielder Kory Casto. - Kevin Frandsen hit by pitch. - Ryan Braun doubles (8) on a fly ball to left fielder Kory Casto. Steve Moss scores. Kevin Frandsen to 3rd. Braun's triple comes at the 39:00 minute mark. Two-out trouble for Alec Zumwalt (audio at the 1:28 mark) Peo Saguaros Bottom 5th - Pitcher Change: Alec Zumwalt replaces Steven Jackson. - Brendan Ryan flies out to left fielder Steve Moss. - Eric Duncan grounds out, second baseman Danny Richar to first baseman Jamie D'Antona. - Jason Jaramillo walks. - Kory Casto walks. Jason Jaramillo to 2nd. - Amaury Marti singles on a ground ball to center fielder Bradley Coon. Jason Jaramillo scores. Kory Casto to 2nd. - Chase Headley lines out to second baseman Danny Richar. Peo Saguaros Bottom 7th - Pitcher Change: Steve Bray replaces Wesley Whisler. - Brendan Ryan pops out to shortstop Kevin Frandsen. - Eric Duncan singles on a soft fly ball to center fielder Bradley Coon. - Jason Jaramillo grounds into double play, first baseman - Jamie D'Antona to shortstop Kevin Frandsen to first baseman Jamie D'Antona. Eric Duncan out at 2nd. Bray's outing begins at the 1:55 mark. Zumwalt has now walked 15 and struck out three in 12 innings, a fact that wasn't lost on the announcers today. Nobody attempted to run on Vinny Rottino today. Vinny was 0-for-2, two walks (picked off and caught stealing). Manny Parra not scheduled to pitch Tuesday either, wonder if he's been shut down in this final week...
  2. Still a heck of a winter season for Corey Thurman in Venezuela: 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA (10 ER / 37.0 IP) in six starts for Oriente. Now at 185 IP for the year, this link includes all his winter league game logs: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...pid=407903
  3. Joe Thatcher perfect (again) in North Shore's 4-1 win Sunday night. Honolulu Bottom 5th - Pitcher Change: Joe Thatcher replaces Takuya Kikou. - Masaya Ozaki called out on strikes. - Nyjer Morgan bunt grounds out to catcher Kenley Jansen. Nyjer Morgan out on batter interference. - Paco Figueroa strikes out swinging. Honolulu Bottom 6th - Hisashi Kawata grounds out, third baseman Koby Clemens to first baseman Cory Dunlap. - Ryan Patterson lines out to pitcher Joe Thatcher. - Yoshiyuki Kamei strikes out swinging. Darren Ford with an interesting night, striking out in his first two AB's, then a bunt single (caught stealing), then another bunt single (stole second, stole third, scored). Lorenzo Cain 0-for-3 with a walk (SB, run). Box Score / Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p;did=milb
  4. 28th round Canadian OF/P Terrell Alliman will be monitored as a draft-and-follow at Community College of Southern Nevada this spring.
  5. www.baltimoresun.com/spor...s-baseball Though the acquisition of Jaret Wright gives the Orioles six starters along with Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera , Adam Loewen, Kris Benson and Rodrigo Lopez, the Orioles will likely trade Lopez (the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers have inquired) or use him in the bullpen. Stats: mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/te..._id=150438 Arby-eligible, made 3.75 M in 2006.
  6. North Shore loses, 3-2, Saturday night Darren Ford and Lorenzo Cain, hitting 1-2 in the order, combine to go 3-for-10. Ford doubled, Cain singled twice and stole second base twice. Box Score / Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...n_honwin_1
  7. Scottsdale wins 4-3 Saturday night Dennis Sarfate gets the save: Grand Canyon Top 9th - Pitcher Change: Dennis Sarfate replaces Justin Hedrick. - Jeff Fiorentino flies out to right fielder David Cook. - Neil Walker singles on a ground ball to right fielder David Cook. - Offensive Substitution: Pinch runner Chris Lubanski replaces Neil Walker. - Anthony Webster singles on a ground ball to second baseman Mark Reynolds. Chris Lubanski to 2nd. - Fernando Cortez grounds into double play, third baseman Kevin Frandsen to second baseman Mark Reynolds to first baseman Vinny Rottino. Anthony Webster out at 2nd. Steve Moss (.200) 0-for-3 with a walk and SB. Vinny Rottino (.213) was 0-for-4. Box Score / Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p;did=milb Day off Sunday, Scottsdale audio available 2:00 Central on Monday.
  8. On Saturday night, Manny Parra is not starting as initially listed. Also, Steve Moss (left field) hitting 2nd, Vinny Rottino (first base) hitting 6th, and no Ryan Braun for a second consecutive game.
  9. North Shore rallies from 5-0 down after five innings to win 6-5 on Friday night. Lorenzo Cain isn't hurt, played a full game, went 1-for-5. He's now 18-for-86 (.209) with five extra-base hits, only four walks, 23 K's, for an OPS of .558 (OBP .244 / SLG .314). Darren Ford was 1-for-3 with a walk. He's now 12-for-70 (.171) with three extra-base hits, 12 walks, 33 K's, for an OPS of .507 (OBP .293 / SLG .214). Only nine games remain, and each youngster has dug himself a deep enough statistical hole, that even in this pitching-strong league, their final numbers will not impress. Cain drew 58 walks in 527 AB's at West Virginia, so he can show patience. Still a smallish sample, although each kid probably will really push himself to improve over the winter given the numbers. On the other hand, Robert Hinton threw 2.1 scoreless innings Friday to lower his ERA to 1.96. In 18.1 IP, he has allowed only 12 hits and three walks while striking out 20. For he and Joe Thatcher, a fantastic fall. Friday's box and log: www.hawaiiwinterbaseball....11-10.html
  10. The Brewers' site jinxed Steve Bray today -- he surrenders the losing run in Scottsdale's 5-4, ten-inning defeat Friday night. www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p;did=milb Vinny Rottino 0-for-4 (two K's); one passed ball behind the plate, no baserunner attempted a steal against him. Day off for Braun and Moss; Manny Parra starts Saturday at 8:00 Central -- no audio, Gameday at MiLB.com...
  11. Just saw the show -- yeah, still funny on TV as opposed to the web, and you have a few more opportunities to see it through this Monday, here's the schedule, all times Eastern: www.vh1.com/shows/schedul...esID=12240 Littell's clip and the associated "celebrity comments" run about 15-20 minutes into the show. Of course, the clip has nothing to do with this week, as in the "Best Week Ever". One of the show's producers has to be a Brewerfan reader, or one of our readers launched this on You Tube: VH1 Comment Screen: www.bestweekever.tv/2006/...ll-player/ You might not remember major leaguer Mark Littell (most likely because he?s primarily known for being a mediocre Kansas City Royals pitcher back in the late 70?s), but this commercial for his athletic support product ?The Nutty Buddy?, is pretty unforgettable. In less than two minutes, Littell sexually harasses a ?sweet-looking? high school girl named Lacey, randomly tells us he?s not a transvestite, repeatedly refers to his ?cajonies?, hoists himself atop two Igloo water coolers wearing tight spandex shorts and a backwards batting helmet, and voluntarily takes a 100-mph fastball right in the junk, all to demonstrate the effectiveness of what is ostensibly an average athletic cup, and all under the watchful gaze of Masa Koyanagi, the ?Asian trainer? whose purpose is never clearly explained. The Nutty Buddy comes in three sizes: ?The Boss?, ?The Hog?, and ?El Jefe?. I don?t know what it means, but some reason I feel like I should purchase the Spanish one.
  12. No snickering allowed -- it's an award-winning design: www.idsa.org/IDEA2006/gal...&cat=4 Notice the "client" listed on that page; how did VH1 find this clip?
  13. Jeremi Gonzalez to the Blue Jays, while former Brewer framhands Brian Wolfe (Koskie trade) and Kevin Barker resigned minor league deals with Toronto.
  14. Latest from MLB.com, still listing three free agent players (Acuna, Boscan, and Lehr) as Brewers: milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com...p;c_id=mil
  15. No video will be available of Thursday's game after all -- sorry for the "possible" heads-up...
  16. North Shore loses, 3-2, in ten innings This game may be once again available on BaseballChannel.TV via MLB.com, but unfortuntaely, not "On Demand". Viewing times look to be at Noon and 3:00 PM Central Friday. The taped games run in a two-hour block, no commercials. Considering that there are two Hawaii League games each day, it's a 50/50 call on which game might be available each day. I'll try to peek in later today and let folks know if the North Shore game will be available -- it'd be nice to peek in and catch Thatcher's stint on tape. BaseballChannel.TV link: mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/me...p#20061027 My guess is that many of the previous games were available as well, but this service is so obscure and poorly advertised that we missed our earlier chances to view them. The games don't appear to be archived anywhere. Joe Thatcher was virtually untouchable and pitched shutout ball for 2 2/3 innings, but was victimized on a walk-off homerun by the Rockies' Duke Sardinha. Waikiki Bottom 8th - Pitcher Change: Joe Thatcher replaces Yusuke Kawasaki. - Duke Sardinha strikes out swinging. - Grant Psomas grounds out, third baseman Blake Dewitt to first baseman Mike Carp. - Cole Garner grounds out, third baseman Blake Dewitt to first baseman Mike Carp. Waikiki Bottom 9th - Dexter Fowler grounds out softly, third baseman Blake Dewitt to first baseman Mike Carp. - Reed Eastley strikes out swinging. - Christopher Nelson singles on a ground ball to shortstop Jonathan Tucker. - Mark Minicozzi called out on strikes. Waikiki Bottom 10th - Nate Schierholtz called out on strikes. - Devin Ivany grounds out, second baseman Rodney Choy Foo to first baseman Mike Carp. - Duke Sardinha homers (3) on a fly ball to right field. Darren Ford walked in the 4th, promptly stole both second and third base, and then scored on a sac fly. He was 0-for-3 otherwise (one K). Lorenzo Cain struck out in the top of the first, started the game in right field, and chased down a triple in the top of the 2nd. While he remained in the game for the rest of that defensive half-inning, he was replaced in right field to open the 3rd. You'd have to think he may have tweaked something on that triple. If there's video, we may be able to learn more. Box Score / Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...n_waiwin_1
  17. 47th round pick Matt Coburn, still eligible to sign as a draft-and-follow candidate, has signed a National Letter of Intent to the TCU Horned Frogs: www.cstv.com/sports/m-bas...06aak.html Matt Coburn hails from Humble, Texas and currently pitches at San Jacinto Junior College. He was a 47th-round draft pick by the Milwaukee Brewers this past summer and was selected to play in the Texas JUCO All-Star game this past spring. "Matt is a strong power right-hander from San Jacinto College, which is one of the premier junior college programs in the nation," Whitting said. "Matt is a player that we have been tracking since he was at Humble High School and we are very excited about what he will bring to our pitching staff next year."
  18. Listen to Dennis Sarfate's save, as described above, at the archived link for November 9th, at the 3 hour, eight minute mark -- get ready for an oddly umpire-called infield-fly rule that helped quite a bit, but still good work by Dennis: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p?sid=l119 Sarfate now with 22 K's in 13 innings. Ryan Braun finally with a tough day, Vinny Rottino on base three times -- one stolen base against while catching, and Steve Moss walked twice: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...n_peswin_1

  21. You can actually watch last night's North Shore game -- catch a glimpse of Lorenzo Cain at noon Central Thursday and then again at 3:00 Central on MLB's Baseball Channel.TV: mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/me...p#20061027 EDIT: Just watched Cain's first AB, unfortunately a first-pitch groundout to third. 'Zo looks rail-thin, but flashed serious speed on the groundout. Fun to see him "in person"...

  23. First of all, you can listen to Scottsdale Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM Central -- it'll archive as well: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p?sid=l119 Scottsdale wins Wednesday night, 5-4, with a three-run 8th Audio archive will eventually be available at the above link, just not as of this post time... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...p;did=milb Phoenix Top 5th - Pitcher Change: Steve Bray replaces Daniel Davidson. - Landon Powell called out on strikes. - Richie RobnettIII pops out to third baseman Ryan Braun. - Fernando Perez bunt grounds out, pitcher Steve Bray to first baseman Mark Reynolds. Bray has now made ten appearances, so his exact game-by-game AFL stats are available here -- he's been a good story all of 2006: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...pid=449081 Phoenix Top 7th - Pitcher Change: Alec Zumwalt replaces Wesley Whisler. - Landon Powell grounds out, shortstop Kevin Frandsen to first baseman Mark Reynolds. - Richie RobnettIII homers (1) on a fly ball to right field. - Fernando Perez walks. - Ben Zobrist flies out to center fielder Steve Moss. - Curtis Thigpen strikes out swinging. Zumwalt's game log page reflects all but his first outing -- home runs have been an issue for him, ten in 65.1 innings, some of them in painful close and late situations: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...pid=430830 Ryan Braun had one line drive single (promptly picked off first). Otherwise, quiet days for he and Steve Moss. Vinny Rottino idle...
  24. Charleston Gazette: West Virginia Power reshuffles front office The West Virginia Power, a Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, announced several front office changes Wednesday. Andy Milovich, the general manager of the Power since January 2004, was promoted to executive vice president of Palisades Baseball and the Power while Ryan Gates takes over as the Power GM. Other front office moves includes the addition of Kristin Call (director of promotions), Ted Robinson (operations manager) and Cam Clendenin (box office manager). Brian Harrigan was promoted to client services director. Milovich, who will be entering his 17th season in professional baseball, will oversee the Power Alley Grill and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, a Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Gates is in his fifth year in professional baseball and fourth with the Power. Not an impact in terms of the product on the field Brewers-wise, but we wish Andy Milovich and new GM Ryan Gates well. Those who follow the board here certainly have seen Andy's name often in quotes regarding Appalachian Power Park and its opening two seasons ago. 2006 Power Front Office Profiles: www.wvpower.com/power/frontoffice.aspx
