  1. These definitions may be helpful to you as we discuss below. The following "missing" players are those currently not on an active roster. Until today, I wasn't aware that there's also a 60-day DL in the minor leagues; their standard DL is seven days. Keep in mind we might stumble upon injury info occasionally, but otherwise the Brewers do not release specific injury details. Restricted List A player who fails to report or fails to sign a contract with the Club to which the player is reserved may be placed on the Restricted List. There is no minimum number of days the player must remain on the Restricted List before the player can be reinstated to the Active List. A player on the Restricted List does not count against a Club's Active List limits or its Reserve List limits. Voluntary Retired A player who wishes to retire is placed on this list. The player may not be reinstated until the player has missed 60 playing days of the championship season. Nashville DL: RHP John Novinsky LHP Sam Narron Huntsville DL: RHP Jerome Gamble RHP Ryan Miller RHP Alec Zumwalt RHP Matt DeWitt Huntsville 60-day DL: RHP Jesse Harper C Kade Johnson RHP Mike Jones RHP Chris Saenz Brevard County DL: RHP Josh Alliston RHP Landon Stockman Brevard County 60-day DL: LHP Eric Henderson Brevard County Suspended List: RHP Darwin Soto West Virginia DL: RHP Alvaro Martinez West Virginia Restricted List: OF Terry Trofholz Helena 60-day DL: RHP Tommy Hawk LHP Carlos Ramirez LHP Edwin Walker Helena Restricted List: OF Ryan Gordon LHP Jared Theodorakos Helena Voluntarily Retired List: RHP Tom Wilhelmsen Arizona Restricted List: RHP Victor Arias RHP Dany Mosquea OF Joel Rivera Assigned to the Venezuelan Summer League: LHP Luis Ramirez LHP Jose Romero While Joel Rivera's (15th round, 2003) absence from Arizona is odd and disappointing, the news here is that Tom Wilhelmsen's (2002 7th round pick) odyssey seems to have taken another turn away from the Brewers. While the transaction description above indicates there's a chance he'll return, it seems as though Tom's baseball career is on indefinite hold, if not over. Too bad.
  2. Updates from Brevard County: RHP Landon Stockman is back on the 7-day disabled list, where he opened the season. No word on the specifics of his latest injury. He has a 3.50 ERA in 13 relief appearances this season. RHP Darwin Soto is serving his 15-day suspension for performance-enhancing drugs; he tested positive around the time of his release from the Mariners' system early on this spring, and won't make his Brewer organization debut until after his time is served.
  3. Brevard County Site Game Summary: PALMISANO, DEEVERS KEEP MANATEES AFLOAT VIERA, FL ? Big hits and solid pitching were all the Manatees have needed all year. On Wednesday night they were able to put all that together as they took game one of the series with the St Lucie Mets 4-3 at Space Coast Stadium. Robby Deevers got it all started for Brevard in the bottom of the fifth. After the Manatees fell behind on a two-run Mets' shot in the top of the fourth, Deevers connected on a two-run triple scoring Ben Diggins and Steve Sollmann to tie the game at two. Diggins and Sollman where on after mistakes by the Mets pitcher and first round draft pick Philip Humber, hitting Diggins and walking Sollmann. While Sollmann was batting Diggins would steal second to pick up his first stolen base of his career. In the top of the seventh the Mets would go ahead 3-2 before Jeff Eure would even things up for BC. Eure hit his 14th home run of the season, a solo shot to left center field, to tie the game back up. Extra innings seemed inevitable for the Manatees who have already played 15 games with free baseball. But a tenth inning would not be necessary tonight. Adam Heether led of the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field and would then steal second. With Lou Palmisano batting Mets pitcher Henry Owens would throw a wild pitch to move Heether to third with no outs. Palmisano would line a screaming shot to right center on a full count to bring home Heether and put the Manatees in the win column for the fifth time in the second half and are now 5-3, tied with St Lucie for second place. The Manatees and the Mets take the field again tomorrow with another 7:00 contest (6:00 Central) at Space Coast Stadium. Ty Taubenheim and his 9-2 record takes the mound for the Manatees as he looks to lower his 2.81 ERA.

  5. 19-year-old switch-hitting infielder Oscar Emeterio, a Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native in his first year of pro ball, was a surprise name on the Helena roster to open the season. He was 0-for-2 with one RBI in one game for the H-Crew, but has now been transferred to Arizona. In other news, earlier this month the Brewers released 20-year-old RHP Oscar Montes. Drafted in the 18th round in 2003 out of a Florida high school, Montes signed at the end of that summer, but not in time to appear in any games. Making his pro debut with Arizona in 2004, he appeared in 13 games (seven starts), and allowed 39 hits and 26 walks in 42.2 IP, striking out a fairly impressive 50. No idea if there's more to the story behind his release, if so, we're unlikely to ever know...

  11. Charleston Gazette: AUGUSTA, Ga. ? The South beat the North 7-5 in the 46th annual South Atlantic League All-Star game Tuesday night. Playing for the North, the West Virginia Power?s Hernan Iribarren had a one-out double in the top of the ninth, bringing teammate Alcides Escobar to the plate with a chance to tie the game. Iribarren was then thrown out attempting to steal third, and Escobar struck out on a full count for the final out. Iribarren played second base and was 1-for-2, while Escobar finished at shortstop, going 0-for-2. The Power?s Robert Hinton pitched two-thirds of an inning for the North, surrendering no hits and no runs. Former West Virginia University standout Grant Psomas, who started for the North at third base, was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. A four-run third inning broke a 1-all tie and propelled the South to the win. Andrew Pinckney drove in Tim Battle on a single to right field to start the scoring off of Lake County pitcher Aaron Laffey, who took the loss. Battle led the South offensively, going 2-for-3. Augusta?s Brian Horwitz drove in two runs in front of the home crowd. Hagerstown?s Dante Brinkley hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth for the North. Asheville?s Matt Dailey pitched the third inning, surrendering a run but picking up the win for the South. Augusta pitcher Brian Wilson picked up the save. The All-Star break continues today before South Atlantic League play resumes Thursday. The Power has a four-game series at Delmarva Thursday through Sunday, then returns to Appalachian Power Park to begin a three-game series Monday against Lexington.
  12. Link while active, text follows: www.al.com/sports/huntsvi...amp;coll=1 Eveland, Stetter are North All-Stars Mark McCarter, Huntsville Times Huntsville's starting pitcher Dana Eveland and reliever Mitch Stetter were named Tuesday to the North squad for the upcoming Southern League All-Star Game. The game is July 13 in Mobile, and pits members of the SL North - Huntsville, Carolina, Tennessee, Chattanooga and West Tenn - against the South (Birmingham, Jacksonville, Mississippi, Mobile and Montgomery), whose team will be announced today. "Both are deserving choices,'' said Stars manager Don Money. "Eveland is in the top five or six in ERA and Stetter has six saves and has pitched well.'' Eveland is 8-4 with a 2.94 ERA in 16 starts. Stetter is 1-3, but has the six saves and a 2.20 ERA, all in relief. He has been scored on in only seven of his 28 appearances. In Money's mind, there was one glaring omission. Stars outfielder Nelson Cruz, who went into Tuesday's action second in the league in homers and fifth in RBIs, to go along with a .313 average. "When you look at his numbers compared to the other outfielders, he should be there,'' Money said. However, by the end of Tuesday's game, that became a moot point. Cruz, who will participate in the prestigious Futures Game, was informed by Money he was being promoted to Triple-A Nashville today.

Huntsville Times Game Story: Link while active, text follows -- www.al.com/sports/huntsvi...amp;coll=1 Cruz is gone, and so is Stars' win streak Standout heads to Triple-A Nashville after Suns' 13-8 win By MARK McCARTER Times Sports Staff markcolumn@aol.com A little after six o'clock, Stars outfielder Nelson Cruz launched back-to-back batting practice pitches on the sort of awesome parabola seen only in Hollywood home runs. "That,'' said reliever Matt DeWitt, "is a man.'' One caromed off a sign attached to a light pole, 45 feet high, 365 feet distant from home plate. Goodbye, baseball. And, by evening's end, goodbye Cruz. And, by evening's end, goodbye to a tidy little Stars' streak of five wins in six games. The Jacksonville Suns pounded Huntsville 13-8 in front of an announced crowd of 1,637. After which, in a somber clubhouse, manager Don Money called Cruz in to inform him he was being promoted to Triple-A Nashville today. Cruz was second in the league in homers with 16 and fifth in RBIs at 54. Ironically, his final game was miserable - four strikeouts and a groundout. According to Nashville sources, no announcement has been made there about who might be sent down to make room for Cruz. It wasn't merely a tidy little streak that went goodbye. It was tidiness as a whole. Tuesday's game took 3:17 to play, had 15 Huntsville strikeouts, five wild pitches, a balk, 18 Jacksonville hits (its seventh consecutive double-digit hitting game) and various other pratfalls. Today's off day, before the Stars resume with a four-game set at West Tenn on Thursday, will be much welcome. Well, maybe not for Jacksonville's Joel Guzman, one of the most highly regarded prospects in baseball. He homered into Cruz-land in the top of the seventh - deep to left - to give him 13 hits in 18 at-bats for this four-game series, driving in nine runs and scoring six. Goodbye, and good riddance as far as the Stars are concerned, to Mr. Guzman. It was an uncharacteristic poor evening for Huntsville starter Dennis Sarfate, who had won his last three starts. He never seemed comfortable, like a man pitching in too-tight underwear, and allowed eight hits, seven earned runs and five walks in 3 1/3 innings. Sarfate hit leadoff batter Jon Weber, with an 0-2 count no less, then walked Russell Martin and committed a balk. It went downhill from there. Though he spotted the Suns a 3-zip lead, the Stars made a temporary comeback in the second when Brandon Gemoll and Nelson Castro led off with singles, and Ben Van Iderstine drove home Gemoll. Callix Crabbe singled to load the bases, then Tony Gwynn Jr. singled in two runs. Gwynn would later drive in a run in the eighth, giving him 28 RBIs for the season, only nine shy of his 2004 total. A Stars error in the fourth let the Suns go ahead 4-3, then Jacksonville pounded out four runs in the fifth, with Sarfate being yanked after a one-out walk loaded the bases. By the time the Stars answered back with another run, on Jacksonville throwing error after a Crabbe single in the sixth, all it did was tick the Suns off. Guzman slammed his two-run in the top of the seventh. Brandon Gemoll mashed a two-run homer in the ninth.

  15. Huntsville Site Game Summary: Red-Hot Suns Sink StarsJoel Guzman collected four hits, including a home run, scored four times and knocked in four runs to pace an 18-hit attack in Jacksonville?s 13-8 win over Huntsville Tuesday night in the final game of a four-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars slipped to 5-3 in the second half of the season and maintained their hold on first place in the North Division after Carolina and Birmingham were rained out, while the Suns improved to 4-4 in the second half. The Stars and Suns concluded their season series with Jacksonville taking six of the 10 games. The Suns jumped on Stars starter Dennis Sarfate for a run in the first, two in the second, one in the third and knocked him out after tallying four times in the fourth to open up an 8-3 advantage. Sarfate was charged with a season-high eight runs, seven earned, on a season-high eight hits and a season-high five walks. The right-hander fanned a season-low one batter in his shortest outing of the year. Keith Stamler allowed a run on five hits in 2 2/3 innings in his first appearance with the Stars and Guzman belted a two-out, two-run home run in the seventh off of Mitch Stetter, who had been named to the North Division All-Star team earlier in the day. Guzman singled twice, doubled and walked and wound up going 13-for-18 with nine runs batted in over the four-game series. The Suns, the league leaders in runs scored, hits, home runs and team batting average, totaled 32 runs on 58 hits in the series and had at least 11 hits in all four games. Justin Orenduff recorded the win after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings in his second double-A start. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked only one and combined with Carlos Alvarez to record 15 strikeouts, the most Huntsville hitters have fanned in a game this season. Tony Gwynn, Jr. knocked in a season-high three runs for the Stars, including two on a single that tied the game at three in the second inning, and has driven in a run in five of his last six games and seven out of his last nine. Brandon Gemoll hit a two-run home run in the ninth for his fifth of the season, second in as many nights and third in the last five games. Vinny Rottino picked up a pair of hits in four at-bats and has six multiple hit games in the eight games played in the second half of the season. The Stars are back in action Thursday when they open a four-game set against West Tenn with left-hander Manny Parra on the hill. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and via the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.
  16. Helena Press Release: HELENA ? The Helena Brewers announced that Tuesday?s game versus the Missoula Osprey has been postponed due to rain and wet field conditions. The Brewers will re-schedule the game as part of a double-header on July 28th at Kindrick Field beginning at 6:05 PM. The double-header will be slated as two seven-inning contests. Fans with tickets for the June 28th game can use them for game one of that double header on July 28th. Fans will exit the park following the first game and then be re-admitted for the originally scheduled to follow. ?We?ve had a bit of bad luck with the weather this week,? Brewers? President/General Manager Paul Fetz said on Tuesday. ?Our grounds crew did a great job getting the first three games in between storms but today?s rains have inundated the field.? The Brewers have started the season 7-0 and will face the 6-1 Billings Mustangs in Billings for a three-game series beginning Wednesday night at 7:05 PM (8:05 Central). In other news, Helena catcher Angel Salome was named Pioneer League Offensive Player of the Week by Minor League Baseball. Salome is currently batting .484 with two homers and 16 RBI in only seven games. The New York City native is slugging a robust .839 with a .543 on-base percentage. 17. Nashville Site Game Summary: OKLAHOMA CITY ? A pair of streaks came to a close on Tuesday evening at SBC Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma snapped its 13-game losing streak and ended Nashville?s three-game win streak with a 7-2 victory over the Sounds in the finale of a four-game series. Oklahoma broke open a 2-2 game in the eighth inning, using only one hit to produce five runs against the Sounds bullpen. Andy Pratt hit RedHawks left fielder Jason Botts with a bases-loaded, 0-2 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to plate Manny Alexander with the decisive run. RedHawks third baseman Marshall McDougall, in his first game back from the big leagues, followed with a grand slam off Pratt to extend the lead to its final 7-2. The blast, McDougall?s eighth of the season, was the third grand slam allowed by Nashville pitching this season; all three slams against the Sounds have come off Oklahoma bats. With the loss and a win by division rival Memphis, Nashville (43-37) wraps up the road trip 2 ½ games in first place in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Despite failing to complete a sweep of the RedHawks, the Sounds completed their road trip with a 5-3 record. Oklahoma took an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning on consecutive two-out RBI singles by Chad Allen and Adrian Gonzalez. Nashville left fielder Ryan Knox, celebrating his 28th birthday, put the Sounds on the board with a two-out RBI double to deep left in the top of the third, bringing home Dave Krynzel. Audio Link, Ryan Knox's RBI double: www.nashvillesounds.com/a...206-28.mp3 Chris Barnwell evened the contest at 2-2 in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly, scoring Brad Nelson. Sounds third baseman Tony Zuniga went 0-for-3 and was held hitless for the first time in a Sounds uniform, snapping his eight-game hitting streak. Outfielder Corey Hart extended his hit streak to eight games with a ninth-inning single. RedHawks reliever Michael Tejera (2-1) earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief work. Kane Davis (4-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs and fanning four over his 1 2/3 frames of work. Both starting pitchers turned in solid outings but each left with a no-decision. Sounds starter Justin Lehr posted his fourth consecutive quality start, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out seven batters and walking none over six innings of work. Oklahoma?s Ryan Snare held Nashville to two runs on four hits over seven frames. The Sounds join the entire Pacific Coast League for an off day Wednesday before opening a four-game homestand against the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium. It will be the first of 16 games between the PCL American Conference Northern Division rivals this season. Nashville right-hander Gary Glover (1-0, 0.50) will start Thursday?s 7:00 p.m. CT series opener and face veteran Memphis southpaw Bill Pulsipher (2-2, 4.03).

  19. Love for Corey Hart in the latest Prospect Hot Sheet at BA: www.baseballamerica.com/t...t2005.html Hart's .308 average at Nashville is made all the more impressive by the fact that the former Southern League MVP hit just .157 (11-for-70) in April. After hitting .306 in May, Hart has been unconscious in June, making up for the the loss of Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder by batting .416 in 25 games while scoring 26 runs. A certain middle-infield combo is recognized as well, and keep in mind, you normally don't see rookie-level players (like Angel) on the Hot Sheet, at least none this week...
  20. Final: Oklahoma (Rangers) 7, Nashville 2 Nashville Box Score: Justin Lehr (a fine game) got the old fake-to-third, throw-to-first pickoff play to work for him for the third time this season; Andy Pratt was asked to retire one left-handed hitter, Adrian Gonzalez, with two out and two on in the 8th -- he walked him, then hit the next batter on an 0-2 pitch to force in the go-ahead run. Pratt then surrendered an exclamation point grand slam. Bye-bye, Andy... 21. Final: South 7, North 5, Sally League All-Star Game Power players on the losing end... Hernan Iribarren 1-2 with a double but stranded a runner in scoring position with two out in his first at-bat, Alcides Escobar 0-for-2 with a K, and Robert Hinton retires both batters he faces on ground balls, stranding an inherited runner. The keystone pair turned a 4-6-3 double play and played errorless ball.
  22. Andy Pratt must have photos of Reid Nichols in compromising positions -- details in what will be a depressing Nashville game summary soon. Is it official that in this world of "feel-good", "don't over-scrutinize the farmhands" atmosphere we try to maintain here, we can all agree to agree on Mr. Pratt? Anyway, it was 2-2 in the 8th, now 7-2 for the soon-to-be victorious Redhawks, after a 13-game losing streak.
  23. Brevard County Game Summary from the Hammerheads' Site: JUPITER, FL ? Reggie Abercrombie hit an RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Hammerheads the 2-1 win over Brevard County on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Abercrombie, who came into the game in the 8th inning as a pinch hitter, chopped the first pitch he saw in the 10th up the middle to score Andy Rohleder from third, who had singled to lead off the inning. An out later, with Rohleder on second base, Jose Campusano lofted a single down the left field line that advanced Rohleder to third and set the table for Abercrombie. The Hammerheads were trailing 1-0 entering the ninth inning, but were able to rally to the game. Lee Mitchell walked to start the frame and was pinch-run for by Todd Brock. With Brock on second base, Juan Figueroa delivered with an single to left to tie the game. Hammerheads starter Paul Mildren pitched eight strong innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out seven. His only mistake of the game came to leadoff hitter Travis Ezi in the first inning who homered to left. Carlos Villanueva, the Manatees starter, also pitched well. Working on three days rest, Villanueva gave up just two hits on five strikeouts over five innings. Carlos Martinez (3-2) earned the win in relief for the Hammerheads by tossing two scoreless innings.

  25. Final: Jupiter (Marlins) 2, Brevard County 1, ten innings Gee, I guess the Manatee offense was quelled after that second pitch of the game... Brevard County Box Score: Closer Brian Wolfe hadn't allowed an earned run for the Brewer organization until tonight; hopefully, Carlos Villanueva's relatively short night was due to wise pitch count management -- he faced one over the minimum in five innings; this team is screaming for somebody to post "look at me" offensive numbers...
