The West Virginia Power and Lexington Legends were held scoreless until Chris Clark snapped the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk-off home run to win it for Lexington. The Legends had the bases loaded with only one out in the fifth inning when Forrest Martin struck out the next two batters in the inning. The Legends grounded into a pair of double plays in the game and the Power grounded into one. 5. Final: Huntsville 2, Mobile (Padres) 0 Huntsville Site Game Summary: Link for Mitch Stetter photo, text follows -- www.huntsvillestars.com/s...newsId=642 Dana Eveland and Mitch Stetter combined on a six-hit shutout in Huntsville?s 2-0 victory over Mobile Wednesday afternoon in the second game of a four-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Stars squared their second half record at 1-1 and improved to 30-41 overall, while the BayBears dropped to 1-1 in the second half and 29-43 overall. The Stars registered their second shutout of the year, both of which have been 2-0 decisions over Mobile. Huntsville also snapped a three-game losing streak to the BayBears and have now won seven of the 10 games played between the two teams. Vinny Rottino started the scoring for the Stars with a two-out solo home run in the first inning. It was his fourth of the year and Huntsville?s third off of BayBears starter Brian Whitaker, matched up for a third time against Eveland, in two starts in Mobile. Brandon Gemoll led off the second inning with a single and moved to third base on a base hit to right field by Enrique Cruz but was thrown out in a rundown trying to score on a Jeff Winchester ground ball. The play allowed Cruz to advance to third and Winchester to second but they were unable to score as Callix Crabbe and Eveland both grounded out. The Stars added their second run in the fourth when Enrique Cruz tripled to start the inning and scored when shortstop Ronnie Merrill couldn?t handle Winchester?s sharply hit ground ball and was charged with an error. Winchester was hit by a Whitaker pitch with two outs in the sixth, advanced to second base on an infield hit by Crabbe but was gunned down at the plate by right fielder Steve Baker on a single by Eveland, who picked up his fourth hit of the season. Gemoll tripled with one out in the eighth but was cut down trying to score against a drawn-in infield by second baseman Casey Baker, who fielded a sharply hit ground ball by Enrique Cruz and threw to the catcher Luke Carlin for the second out of the inning. Eveland held Mobile hitless for 3 1/3 innings before Merrill legged out an infield hit. The Stars southpaw yielded just two singles in his six innings of work and has now allowed 16 singles and one home run in his last 33 innings pitched. Eveland walked one and struck out six to earn his fifth straight win, all of which have stopped Stars losing streaks. In succession, he has halted skids of three, four, four, two and two games and matched Enrique Gonzalez of Tennessee for the league lead in wins. Stetter allowed back-to-back singles to Steve Baker and Luke Carlin with one out in the seventh and walked Casey Baker to load the bases but got out of trouble by inducing pinch-hitter Mike Richardson to ground into an inning-ending double play. Stetter hit Carlin and Baker reached on an infield hit that saw Rottino throw wildly past first base to allow Carlin to get to third with two outs in the ninth. Mobile pitcher Mike Thompson was brought on to pinch-hit and grounded back to Stetter, who took the ball to the bag at first base and stepped on the base to record the final out and earn his sixth save of the season in his longest outing of the year. The series continues Thursday night with right-hander Dennis Sarfate taking the hill for the Stars against BayBears right-hander Mike Thompson. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:50 p.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. 6. The first Helena game leads to some box score confusion that the stat services will need to square away at some point. A--2305But you'll notice the following was reported which is correct: Missoula started its season with 11 hits off three Brewers pitchers but couldn't score in the final four innings against relievers Steve Hammond and Patrick Ryan. So Robbie Wooley went five innings only, not 7.2. I remember listening to the announcer comment on how dominant Steve Hammond was, as he struck out six in 2.2 innings. And Hammond's numbers listed in the box score actually belong to Patrick Ryan, who came on for Hammond with one out in the 8th. So Wooley struck out two, and allowed seven hits, not nine. Maybe we'll figure out who to contact at milb.com regarding this, or, I know Helena management normally peeks in, so we'll give them a heads up as well.

  8. Link while active, text follows: www.helenair.com/articles...205_05.txt Brewers pluck Osprey By KIM BRIGGEMAN - of the Missoulian The Helena Brewers still have a heck of a thing going against the Missoula Osprey. Ten Brewers contributed to a 17-hit attack as the visitors powdered the O's 16-3 in the 2005 Pioneer League baseball opener at Play Ball Park. Helena continued its mastery over the Osprey in front of 2,305 fans, second only to the 2,526 in last year's home opener and inaugural game. Last year, an almost entirely different bunch of Brewers won 14 of 16 against Missoula. Catcher Angel Salome of New York City hit a solo home run in the first to start the rout. Second baseman Kenny Holmberg, a 22nd-round draft choice from NAIA power Embry-Riddle of Florida, smoked a two-run shot off the Osprey scoreboard in the fourth to keep it going. Then came the fatal fifth. The first five Brewers reached base to knock out Missoula's Dan Pohlman, who was making his first professional start after catching a lot and pitching a little out of the bullpen in Yakima last year. All five ended up scoring in a five-hit inning that made the score 10-2. The first four Osprey reached base in the bottom of the same frame against Helena starter Robbie Wooley. Shortstop Pedro Ciriaco, who finished the night 3-for-5, was the fourth and his bases-loaded single to left scored Jayson Santiago. Wooley, just down from Class A West Virginia where he had a 1-5 record, faced a no-out, bases-loaded jam with the Osprey's No. 3, 4 and 5 hitters coming up. He struck out first baseman Bryan Byrne, retired designated hitter Josh Terrell on a soft liner, and got Greg Thomson to pop up on the first pitch to escape. Missoula started its season with 11 hits off three Brewers pitchers but couldn't score in the final four innings against relievers Steve Hammond and Patrick Ryan. Santiago, a left-handed hitter from Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, collected two hits, two runs and a walk to begin his third stint in Missoula. Osprey catcher Mike DeCarlo also had a pair of hits, including his team's only extra-base rap, a double past third base in the sixth. Six Brewers had at least two hits each. Salome led the way with three, including the home run and an RBI single in the ninth. The top three hitters in manager Ed Sedar's Helena lineup were a combined 7-for-15. The same teams play the second of a four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m (8:05 Central). Photo by Tom Bauer, the Missoulian - Josh Terrell of the Missoula Osprey is out at second as Helena second baseman Kenny Holmberg makes a throw to first for a double play in the second inning Tuesday in Missoula. http://www.helenair.com/content/articles/2005/06/22/sports_top/b01062205_05.jpg

  11. Nashville Site Game Summary: ALBUQUERQUE ? Second baseman Warren Morris belted a pair of home runs and drove in four runs during a four-hit night to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 7-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday evening at Isotopes Park in the opener of a four-game series. With the victory, Nashville (39-34) increased its lead to a season-high 3 ½ games over second-place Memphis in the PCL American Conference Northern Division. Morris ? who produced Nashville?s eighth two-homer game of the year ? spotted the Sounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when he belted his first home run of the season, a two-run shot to left-center off Isotopes starter Ariel Prieto. Dave Krynzel, who had doubled, scored on the blast. Audio Link of Warren Morris' First HR: www.nashvillesounds.com/a...206-21.mp3 Albuquerque quickly tied the contest in the bottom of the frame against Nashville starter Jeff Housman. Prieto doubled to open the frame and later scored on a groundout to put the Isotopes on the board. Chris Aguila knotted the score with a two-out solo homer to left, the outfielder?s fifth of the year and second in two nights. Morris put the Sounds ahead once again in the top of the fifth inning with a one-out RBI single to plate Trent Durrington, who singled earlier in the frame to extend his season-best hitting streak to 13 games then stole his team-leading 20th base. Brad Nelson, who went 3-for-5 on the evening, made it a 4-2 Nashville lead with a two-out RBI single that scored Morris later in the frame. Josh Willingham pulled Albuquerque within a run at 4-3 with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. Morris, who reached base in all five plate appearances, continued his solid night in the seventh when he belted his second home run of the contest, a solo shot to left off Prieto that chased the right-hander. The Sounds increased the lead to 6-3 in the eighth against Isotopes reliever Pat Flury when Julio Mosquera plated Nelson with a sacrifice fly, then Nashville reliever Jose Capellan finished the night?s scoring with a run-scoring single to plate Durrington in the ninth. Housman (3-6) earned his first victory in seven starts by allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings. Prieto (4-3), the former Sound, was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned) in his 6 2/3 frames. Capellan worked the final two innings in scoreless fashion to earn his second save of the year. The teams continue the series with an 8:05 p.m. CT matchup on Wednesday evening. Sounds right-hander Rick Helling (5-3, 4.30) makes the start to face Albuquerque right-hander Jeff Fulchino (5-6, 6.42).

  13. Huntsville Site Game Summary: Corey Smith singled home the game-winning run in the seventh inning to lift Mobile to a 7-5 victory over Huntsville in the first game of the second half of the season at Hank Aaron Stadium. The BayBears improved to 29-42 overall and won their third straight game over the Stars, who lost their second straight game to drop to 29-41 overall. Paul McAnulty doubled with one out off of Khalid Ballouli, who threw scoreless relief in the fifth and sixth innings, and scored with two outs on a line drive single to left by Smith, the Cleveland Indians first round draft choice in 2000. Ballouli lasted three innings for a fifth time in seven relief outings but was saddled with his sixth loss of the season after allowing the decisive run on three hits, while striking out five. Mobile tacked on another run in the eighth inning off of Mike Meyers on a fielder?s choice by Kennard Jones that plated Luke Carlin. Dale Thayer took over on the hill for the BayBears in the ninth inning and yielded a one-out walk to Tony Gwynn, Jr. and a two-out single by Vinny Rottino that moved Gwynn to third base before retiring Nelson Cruz on a fly ball to end the game and register his 14th save of the season. The Stars scored four times in the seventh inning to get the game tied at five. Gwynn doubled inside the first base line to drive in Ben Van Iderstine and Callix Crabbe and came around to score with Jeff Winchester on a two-out, two-run single by Nelson Cruz, who extended his hitting streak to 12 games. Mobile tallied five times in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead and marked the seventh time this season the Stars have allowed five runs in a frame. Smith tied the game with a run-scoring double and scored, along with Joe Gerber, on a bases loaded single by Casey Baker that put the home team on top, 3-1. Nelson Castro committed a throwing error that allowed another run to score and Jones singled home the final run of the frame. Nelson Cruz opened the second with a walk, moved to second base on an infield hit by Castro but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on an Enrique Cruz single. Van Iderstine knocked in Castro with a single and Crabbe followed with a walk to load the bases but Stars? starter Ryan Costello grounded into an inning ending double play. The visitors amassed six hits and three walks in the first three innings against starter Sean Thompson but could only manage one run. The four-game series continues Wednesday morning with left-hander Dana Eveland making the start for the Stars against BayBears right-hander Brian Whitaker. Coverage of the game gets underway at 11:50 a.m. central time on ESPN 1450 AM and through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com.
