  2. Sunday 4/20: Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "Easter Sunday wasn't quite as good for the Brewers as THAT Easter Sunday, but with an amazing debut from Logan Henderson and a franchise-record haul of stolen bases, it was certainly interesting, and it capped a strong week. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe discussed the team's sudden abundance of riches in the starting rotation, including the pending return of Tobias Myers and another rehab outing from Brandon Woodruff. Ah, but what about the bullpen? Another blip from Joel Payamps has the guys wondering how to get Craig Yoho on this roster. Caleb Durbin had a pretty exciting debut in his own right, but has the Brewers' gap at third base been solved? Grant Anderson and Rhys Hoskins have big weeks, as well. In Three Up Three Down (40:15), they check in on Willy Adames and marvel at a couple of intriguing Triple-A players as well as yet another one-hitter. In Remembrew When (55:30), JR recalls another memorable big-league debut from a pitcher currently on the roster. And Curt Blanche (1:00:45) brings some baggage to the conversation. Then, JR chats with newcomer left-handed starter Jose Quintana (1:06:30), who already has two wins under his belt with the Brewers. They talk about his well-publicized excellence in his career against Milwaukee, his nontraditional path to the big leagues, that Pete Alonso homer last year, Game 163 and the offseason that brought him to the Brewers." 4. The Sounds are playing well of late, as the veterans trusted to steady things in Nashville are performing well. The Shuckers had been also, until quietly fading on Saturday night. There were split results in Appleton. Finally, your trusty Link Reporter here spent too much time this AM trying to determine why Jesus Made was the latest of a daily stream of Mudcats position players to exit mid-game. Here. We. Go. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: - RHP Kaleb “Bo” Bowman reinstated from AA Biloxi’s 7-day injured list - RHP Daniel Corniel placed on High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list retroactive to April 17 - C Edgardo Ordonez placed on High-A Wisconsin’s 7-day injured list retroactive to April 17 Final: Nashville 10, Charlotte (White Sox) 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Homer Happy Sounds Earn Series Win Over Knights - Nashville Hits Three Home Runs in 10-4 Win over Charlotte Saturday Night All nine Sounds reached base (Wes Clarke, Andruw Monasterio and Adam Hall comprised the bench). Oliver Dunn was the lone starter not to get a base hit (now 0-for-7), though he did draw one walk. Isaac Collins' MLB playing time has been very limited as of late, but there doesn't seem to be any pressing need to swap in Daz Cameron or Jared Oliva as the RH bench OF bat prior to Blake Perkins' eventual return. However, the Brewers brass is likely very comfortable knowing that both Cameron and Oliva are capably in reserve if needed, with neither tying up a 40-man roster spot. Workmanlike efforts from LH starter Bruce Zimmerman, and RH relievers Jesús Liranzo and Evan McKendry. Only one walk and one HBP (both via McKendry) aids the cause. Cleanup man Ernesto Martinez Jr. was 0-for-4 with a K but drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. That doesn't mean it was a totally uneventful day for the big man: You'll find four video highlight clips on the team's "X" timeline Sunday morning. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Birmingham (White Sox) 6, Biloxi 5 Box Score and Game Log Lara Records Third Straight Multi-Hit Performance, Shuckers Fall to Barons - Spain becomes 1st Shucker to begin a road game with a home run since 2023 Three relievers (Stiven Cruz, Kaleb Bowman, Tyler Bryant) did their part with four innings of scoreless ball - Bryant's three K's in his frame were encouraging - but the offense was also pretty silent down the stretch as this game quickly determined the Shuckers' fate late. It seems losing a contest like this (up 4-0 after the top of the 1st) is somehow just as exasperating as blowing a late lead. Every batter, save for Zavier Warren, reached base at least once with five on base at least twice. Not only did Luis Lara stay hot (thus the title of the game summary above), but one thing that will never sleep with Lara is the glove (and here, the arm): Lara stole a base, his 3rd without being caught. He was 45-for-59 in attempts with Wisconsin in 2024. Ethan Murray is only nine games into his season, but the soon-to-be 25-year-old 2021 5th rounder out of Duke is making early amends on what was a very forgettable 2024 season in Biloxi. Not only is the current .831 OPS shiny, but he's handled five games capably in left field (seven chances), the first games of his pro career on the grass. For this contest, he was at second base. Look for Murray's first long ball of the season, along with other Saturday night clips, here. Meanwhile, Voice of the Shuckers Javik Blake is working to shake certain musical vibes from his head this AM. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final, Completion of Friday's Suspended Game: Lansing (Athletics) 4, Wisconsin 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Lansing Holds on to Win Suspended Game from Friday Night - Insurance run in the top of the seventh is key Watch as the weather magically improves by 100% mid-way through - As we noted in yesterday's report: "Props to starting RHP Chandler Welch for fighting through the elements, regardless of the soured results in his final soaking frame." Oh, things seemed so promising when the bottom of the order did their part to begin the final inning, with men on 1st and 2nd with the top of the order due up. The Tayden Hall K and Blake Burke GIDP were very deflating. There are certain clips with Burke it's just very evident that he is even a bigger human than we might think - is he heading toward Rowdy territory in a few years? One note I've been meaning to mention since T-Rats Opening Day. He was denied a chance for a big knock after the game-ending sequence, but did you notice that Jadher Areinamo lost a syllable over the winter? HIs last name is now more of an "Ar-E-Namo" rather than the awkward "Ar-E-I-Namo" of 2024. In the long run, probably a good inning-limit "relief" appearance for RHP Bishop Letson in Game One. Final, Regularly Scheduled Game: Wisconsin 2, Lansing 0, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Hardin Plays Stopper in 2-0 Win - Rattlers snap five-game losing streak with shutout win Wait, Tyson Hardin was awesome but wasn't prominently featured in the video summary?! Well, he was so impressive, he netted his own highlight reel: The audio provided by the club is expanding this year, not that it was lacking previously. Be sure to take this in as the club now enjoys a rare two-day break: Final: Carolina 5, Delmarva (Orioles) 2 Box Score and Game Log Offense Propels Mudcats to Victory What's this, no double-digit offense? C'mon, Muddies, stop slacking ? Speaking of "C'mon", another Carolina position player exits mid-game, and it's Jesus Made? Oh, going to have to research the video archive again, the Mudcats are really making sure I've got the MiLB subscription. Made was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the 5th. However, he remained in the game initially, including stealing a base that frame and subsequently scoring on a Luis Pena double. Made then played defense in the top of the 6th, catching a lineout to end the inning. Made then was replaced on defense to open the 7th. For MiLB TV subscribers, archive link The Made HBP and subsequent tour of the basepaths - the at-bat begins at the 02:06:00 hour/minute mark. Voice of the Mudcats Chris Edwards thought it got Made in the thigh, but it was pretty clearly his right foot/ankle (the switch-hitting Made was batting left-handed). Made very clearly was hurting, he sprawled face down and covered his face for an extended time. Yet he was pretty suddenly able to take his base. Made's SB came on a 3-2 pitch to Braylon Payne and was a head-first success. No apparent after-effects of the HBP. Made makes his way to 3B on a deep-enough fly to CF by Eric Bitonti and easily strolled in on a glorious line-drive Pena double over the CF's head. Pena was thrown out at 3rd base trying to stretch his double into a triple, a two-out mistake. But that swing was beautiful. So, it's an eight-and-a-half-minute slice of game action I just described, well worth your time if able. By the way, that little button that allows for viewers to skip forward exactly 15 seconds at a time, just a wonderful gift given the pitch clock in situations like this. Thank you for the little things in life, technology! Moving forward to the 02:23:00 minute mark, Made did a mini bunny-hop (Happy Easter, by the way ?), that was likely unnecessary but showed no ill-effects coming of the field as he ended the inning with that catch. Unless Chris Edwards learned later in the contest, it's possible that Made's exit was nothing more than a who knows, tummy ache. If I had to guess, his ankle may have swelled a bit. When he first went down on that HBP, it looked scary. Did we mention Payne tripled and homered? We agree, Spencer. RHP Melvin Hernandez won't turn 19 years old until July, and the Nicaraguan native is looking like this year's version of 2024 Mudcat Manuel Rodriguez, now working his magic with the Timber Rattlers. Enjoy that box score line. Brewers Player Development - on a roll! The Sounds and Mudcats have first-pitches within the state of North Carolina just after noon Central Time. 8. This audio interview archive indicates how Kaleb let his hair grow in order to eventually donate it. And with that, we must now return the Transaction Thread (pretty please) to its rightful purpose, namely simply to list the year-long transactions. We try to encourage folks to post in the various team threads if they have miscellaneous comments on specific transactions. Thanks.
  9. Atlanta moves OF Carlos D. Rodriguez to AAA Gwinnett from AA. He’s on their 40-man.
  10. As we’ve often said here, when anyone here knows, everyone will know. Nothing held back. Organizations are tight-lipped on such things as a norm. Listening to any and all available audio can sometimes be helpful, but otherwise, no.
  11. We should point out that while watching an MiLB.TV game on archive requires an MiLB.TV subscription, if you have an MLB.TV sub, you can watch the minor league games live, same section where you'd go to watch the Brewers game.

  13. It's not easy grabbing the attention from Brandon Woodruff and Tobias Myers rehab outings. But the Carolina Mudcats have now scored at least nine runs in seven of their eleven victories. On Friday they won their second consecutive game by a 10-1 score to move nine games over .500 just 13 games into 2025. Nashville scored only one run, which was more the story than their walkoff defeat. Biloxi continues to improve, the Timber Rattlers are struggling. Let's examine how it all came together. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: N/A Final: Charlotte (White Sox) 2, Nashville 1 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Drop First Game of Series in Charlotte on Friday Night - Tobias Myers Works Five Scoreless in Third Rehab Start See, this is why we suggest you always read the game summaries: It's hard to mourn a walk-off loss when your team scores only one run on four singles (although seven walks were also gleaned but not taken advantage of, 0-for-7 RISP, 8 LOB). This was Ryan Middendorf's 6th appearance, and these were the first two earned runs he's allowed. You can't say the hits were cheap, as evidenced here and here. Andruw Monasterio made an attempt at an extra-base hit with one out in the 8th - Ernesto Martinez had one of the four singles, and well, he's just ridiculous with the big-boy-strength, because it was lined to center at 110.1 MPH. This follows up from the day before: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 76 pitches (48 strikes). Simply put, see you in San Francisco, Tobias Myers. Rehab mission accomplished. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 4, Birmingham (White Sox) 1 Box Score and Game Log Crow Returns to the Mound with a Dominant Start in a 4-1 Shuckers Win - Peterson strikes out a career-high 8, staff combines for 15 strikeouts Sorry, but you will never see me not pushing investment in the pre-game interview audio that's available. My goodness, they are seven-minute mini-sacrifices of your time. Among the most recent entries, for sure tune into Eric Brown, Jr. discussing his plate adjustments, and it was very cool to hear from Jace Peterson, now a Player Development Consultant. The Shuckers are going with a one-man bench beyond the catcher position. On Friday, outfielder Bladimir Restituyo sat. That can't be the case long. It's nice to see the ten base knocks (all singles however, thus just the four runs) plus the seven walks, filling the bases throughout this one, as everyone reached at least once (Luis Lara, Brock Wilken, and Luke Adams thrice each). But some days off are going to need to be scheduled, not to mention the likely need for an injury emergency fill-in. Jheremy Vargas' transfer down to Wisconsin seemed innocuous, but he was capable of providing support in multiple spots on the diamond. My goodness this is a very big number via the opening to the linked game summary: Coleman Crow’s first pitching appearance in 723 days So yes, there was a very rehab-ish Arizona Fall League stint in 2024, but this was the real deal, and how do you come back after that layoff and just pick up where you left off regarding ridiculous spin: Not only did LHP Nate Peterson strand the two Coleman Crow baserunners in the 4th (coming in with no outs), but after walking six in his most recent outing, Peterson was amazing here with eight K's and zero free passes. He ran with a 3-0 lead and stood it up tall. More of this, please, or at least anything vaguely resembling this. What an effort. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final, Game One: Lansing (Athletics) 8, Wisconsin 4, seven innings as scheduled Box Score and Game Log Lansing Claims Series Win in 8-4 Game One Victory over Rattlers - Lugnuts score five insurance runs with two outs to build 8-1 lead I was able to watch every pitch of this one, and we're linking to the postgame podcast audio below (highly recommended) which includes all of Brandon Woodruff's comments on his day. Simply put, Woodruff's outing was underwhelming to this viewer, and you'll hear Woody comment that it doesn't really matter whether he's facing the kids in High-A or not, but well, it kind of does, and there was no intimidation or domination evident. I invite you to review the linked game log - you'll see the words "sharply" and "line drive" throughout Woodruff's four frames, including several of the outs. His 30-day rehab stint officially kicked off on April 12th, and he'll need every bit of those 30 days, but we all anticipated that. Nothing will be rushed. Kudos to the 9th inning "rally", but that was a bit of lipstick on a pig, entering that final frame down 8-1. The Rattlers had only five baserunners through the first six frames. Reliever Bayden Root was atypically wild and I was fearing for Lansing batters (two were plunked and several other pitchers nearly clipped). Fellow bullpen arm Dikember Sanchez was, we'll call it, more "typically" wild. On to the non-completed nightcap - Suspended, Game Two: Lansing 3, Wisconsin 2, one out in the top of the 4th Box Score and Game Log Rattlers and Lugnuts Night Game is Suspended by Weather - Lugnuts leading 3-2 in fifth when rain halted play Even for a suspended game, Chris Mehring's recap provides you plenty of detail. We'll enhance things when the game goes final on Saturday, plus we should get video beyond just this as well: Props to starting RHP Chandler Welch for fighting through the elements, regardless of the soured results in the final soaking frame. Final: Carolina 10, Delmarva (Orioles) 1 Box Score and Game Log Offense Propels Mudcats to Victory A 1-1 game through five innings? No problem for this lineup. Do you know what is becoming a problem? Carolina position players seemingly exiting mid-game on a regular basis. On Friday, it was Josh Adamczewski's turn. He walked in the 1st, was HBP in the 2nd, then left the game after striking out swinging in the 4th. The HBP was on his right elbow (LH batter). On the final swing of his subsequent K, Adamczewski can be seen flexing that elbow on his way back to the dugout (for MiLB.TV subscribers, the 02:26:00 hour/minute mark here). So far, Carolina position players have avoided the seven-day IL. Infielder Luis Pena last played on Sunday the 13th. Demetrio Nadal left Wednesday's game, Braylon Payne left Thursday's. Adamczewski's exit kicked off a myriad of position changes when catcher Blayberg Diaz entered as a first baseman (now with 33 games at the cold corner). Hopefully things all remain just day-to-day on the "owie" front. Outside of an 0-for-5 and golden sombrero for Filippo Di Turi (still sporting a .411 OBP), everyone contributed. Enjoy the box, as per usual with this group. So close to HR #1, but the OPS is still wonderful at .885: The Mudcat "X" timeline is full of all kinds of video for you, from the up-close and standard varieties. RHP Travis Smith and LHP Sam Garcia are combining nicely in their tandem efforts, and 21-year-old LH Mexico native Jesus Broca bridged the gap between the 22-year-olds nicely. By the way, guess which team is a strong 3rd in ERA and 2nd in WHIP in the 12-team Carolina League ERA? That's right, your Carolina Mudcats. The main reason? They don't have to pitch to your Carolina Mudcats. Nearly 2,800 in Zebulon for this one, love to see it, these youngsters deserve it. Sure, there were fireworks, but the players have provided many of their own. My opinion - the Wisconsin Saturday nightcap game should be a nine-inning affair, but it'll be seven, like the completion of the suspended game. Regardless, that's your afternoon action in Appleton. The Mudcats kick off at 4:00 Central, the Sounds at 5:05, and the Shuckers at 6:30 in conveniently staggered affairs. Enjoy! Enjoy! 16. The future of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans could be decided Tuesday. Here's what's on the table Just posting as an FYI, and whenever I read speculation about MLB eventually reducing the MiLB full-season affiliate count lower than 120 (four per parent club), I just roll my eyes. These communities are investing (have invested) so much to comply!
