I simply cannot see the argument to have Burnes on this roster next year. No one believes we can extend him. There is zero chance he'll be in a Brewer uniform in 2025. If we start next season with him in the rotation, then the best possible scenario is that we're out of the playoff race in mid-July. But I would say it's likely we're still in the hunt come July. Now you're either giving up on a promising "bite of the apple" and incurring all the damage of the Hader trade all over again or you're keeping him for an ill-fated attempt to win a WS next year and then you lose him for nothing. I have to believe the pieces we could get for him this off-season would help us greatly in the next 4-5 years as the other talent matures. Maybe we finally get to eat the whole apple? The backlash from trading him will be significant but it's far worse if you deal him at the deadline in a year where we are still in the pennant race.
