  1. Jenkins...LONG BALL! Take your frustration out on the opponent.
  2. Seem slike Ned was fired up from the get go in this one.
  3. Great, the home plate umpire is out of control. I am so tired of these guys.
  4. Until his next start anyway (if he gets one).
  5. I wasn't necessarily comparing the two teams, but rather just pointig out the Brewers overall hitting vs. situational hitting - ie, Russ Barnyan as a PH. Houston was only mentioned because they are leadig the WC race. I think all would agree the Brewers most consistent problem this year has been hitting w/ RISP. Guys who are good hitters, don't necessarly hit good in certain situations, If they were better w/RISP, they would probably have quite a handful of additional wins and would be up there in the standings with Houston. That being said, those stats you point out, do pretty much tell the story.
  6. Nobody ever said it was, but I am guessing that's supposed to be funny. Anyway, if 0-11 with 8 K's is't enough history for you let's take a look back. Over the past 3 seasons, Russ Branyan is 4-41 with 27 K's, 1 HR and 5 RBI as a PH. I guess you're right. With numbers like that, he should have been up there, even though he has barely put a bat on a ball as a PH this year. Is Russell a better hitter than MacGruder? Yes. Is a he a better PH than MacGruder? There is nothing to suggest that's the case. If it was simply a case of who is a better hitter and situation has nothing to do with it, the Brewers would be right there with Houston right now, because we all know how many games the Brewers have dropped because they haven't hit w/RISP. If its close and late and you want to send a guy up there to try to hit one out, Russell is the guy every time. Another reason he wasn't used in the 4th.
  7. Doug needs to stand and deliver tomorrow, especially after his last outing. Sheets did it. Ohka did it. Now it is up to Doug to do the same - especially against a rookie pitcher. Tomorrow is a big day for this team. Need to give Sheets a chance to win the series on Wednesday.
  8. As a PH this year, as a matter of fact he is. I'm done with this pointless argument. They lost tonight because Victor Santos is bad. The decision in the 4th ining meant very little (Victor Santos put them in that situation), and beyond that, I simply don't believe Ned Yost's decision making is to blame for any higher a percentage of the Brewer's losses as most managers in baseball. Its funny, go to any board like this of any team that is .500-ish or worse and see the same discussions taking place. With the exception of places like Boston, St. Louis, Atlanta, the manager is an idiot. More often than not, good players make good managers.
  9. No, striking out in almost 75% of those 11 AB's.
  10. Not as a PH he isn't. One more time...Branyan pinch hitting: 0-11 with 8 K's. That's a BA of almost .000. You simply can't ignore that. If there is anything that should not be condoned, it would be sending a guy up there that history would indicate has a far, far, far greater likelihood of strikig out in that situation, than getting a hit, or even putting the ball in play. Don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument though. Now, if you want to argue that Branyan should be starting at 3B, that I may be able to go along with (despite the fact Helms was a big part of the offense tonight).
  11. Please read...AT LEAST 1 run. But you are actually helping me explain exactly what my point is. Again, my opinion, but I believe your risk of coming away with nothing in that inning is far greater if you send Branyan and his 0-11 with 8k record as a pinch hitter up there. If he K's you have no chance at a run in that AB. MacGruder is more likely to put it in play wherby you at least have a shot at a run.
  12. Victor Santos couldn't get past the 4th inning. That is where the game was lost. The fact the hitting for him in the 4th, whether Branyan or MacGruder was a complete no-brainer, pretty much says it all. You may be able to get away with it against a team like the Mets, but if you find yourself in that position against a team like the Cardinals, you're done.
  13. This dead horse is being beaten to death, but... Had he sent Branyan up and he struck out, or didn't get a run in, and the Brewers tallied nothing in that inning, why would you have condoned that? I think where the difference of opinion comes in is which option gave you the better chance to get at least one run. To me, sending a guy up there who was 0-11 with 8 K's as a PH, just doesn't give you a very good chance. Yes, he could have hit a fly ball, or even gotten a hit, but history indicates that a K was a far more likely outcome. That's all I'm saying. I just have a problem with people using hindsight and the fact that it didn't work as some sort of proof that it was the wrong decision. There is obviously no way to know what Branyan would have done, but some want to claim that because MacGruder didn't come through, that Branyan, with his 0-11, 8K record as a pinch hitter was automatically the better option.
  14. Hey, good for you. Simply because I have the brainpower to realize that every decision a manager makes is not going to work out, as well as the objectivity to understand that a different manager is not going to put this team atop the National League. The way some of you talk, Ned Yost has never made a correct decision. I would love for it to be that simple - replace the Manger and the Brewers are magically good. Simply doesn't work that way. I don't pretend Ned Yost doesn't make mistakes as you say I do (there's that objectivity thing again) - every manager does, but it seems that most of you who constantly bash the guy, refuse to admit he has ever made a correct move. They lost a game tonight because their pitchers couldn't pitch, as much as you'd like to think they lost because of some PH call by the manager. They lost because their pitchers didn't get the job done, not because Ned Yost didn't send Russ up in the 4th.
  15. Come on. Tie score in a game you pretty much know you will need to score some runs, and you want a relief pitcher to lead off the 6th inning? Surely even the most ardent Ned Yost hater would not support that.
  16. You're kidding right? It has been a very bad pitching night to be sure, but take a look at the stats on those guys. Not exactly a AAA roster.
  17. No, I don't necessarily think so. As I have clearly already stated, I think the risk of a Branyan K there was the bigger risk. I think sending MacGruder up there gave them the better chance to get at least 1 run in, and give Brady a chance with 2 out, where they would need a hit anyway. My opinion obviously, but I just think there was a far greater possibility of MacGruder putting it in play. If Russ K's for the second out, Brady needs to get a hit anyway. But, since it is now 8-4 as I type this, this is a completely moot point. This one is a result of poor pitching, not poor PH decisions.
  18. BTW, we can argue pinch hitters all night long, especially because none of them came through, but 6 runs (so far), and a starter unable to get out of the 4th inning. That's the reason for this loss.
  19. Right back at ya Slick. It is equally frustrating to try to discuss these things with people who just assume that Russel Branyan would have automatically delivered and things would have somehow turned out different (once the move in question didn't work). For the record he is now 0-12 as a PH, but you're probably right. Since you don't like Ned Yost, it is a completely safe assumption that Russ would have delivered no less than a single in the 4th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  20. So, how many of you would rather have MacGrudder up there right now (and please don't try to tell me we would already be ahead had he hit in the 4th)?
  21. I wouldn't worry too much about that happening.
  22. Considering that Branyan just doesn't play much, ,do we know if he is completely healthy? BTW, Wes Helms is the player of teh game right now, so its hard to complain about him getting the start.
  23. In that particular situation, in the 4th inning, I do believe MacGrudder was the correct call..to get at least one run in. He didn't, but to me that is a better risk than the risk of Branyan striking out for the second out. Different point in the game, same situation, my answer might be different. All else beuing equal and you present me that same question, without specifics of how the game had gone - you do not give me the information I had and my answer would probably be Branyan.
