  1. It seems Green has been used more or less as a shield to protect McGehee from facing tough pitchers/matchups. And even with that coddling, McGehee's production over the past month has been dreadful. It's very disappointing. Hopefully next year Green will be given a more decent opportunity to play 3B for the team.
  2. Gotta like the rationale that McGehee will get hot in the playoffs because he won't be worried about his numbers anymore. Didn't a bunch of our minor league studs just get ripped a new one by the organization for worrying too much about their numbers? And why is he acting like McGehee has "been there, done that" in terms of playing in the postseason? As was pointed out by another poster, Casey has no playoff experience whatsoever under his belt. If there is anyone we could count of to not be overwhelmed by the pressure of the playoffs, it would be Counsell or Hairston. It's very unnerving when the manager seems to be living in an alternate reality.
  3. I agree that nobody would have cared if Wolf came out. It's not at all comparable to the Cutler thing. Besides, if you're really worried about protecting Wolf's reputaion, just say it was the manager's decision (which it should have been anyway). I blame Roenicke for this more than Wolf. Of course Wolf doesn't want to come out of the game. If it were up to the players, almost nobody would ever take themselves out of a game for any reason. It should have been common sense for Roenicke to err on the side of caution in this situation, all things considered.
  4. I'm thinking that maybe they chose those blue/orange colors to sort of tie themselves to the Miami Dolphins?
  5. I would think the defensive upgrade from McGehee to Hairston at 3B would be larger than the upgrade from Yuni to Hairston at SS.
  6. Here are the potential combinations, listed in order of which I think is best: Green 3B / Hairston SS ... Hairston 3B / Betancourt SS McGehee 3B / Hairston SS ... ... ... McGehee 3B / Betancourt SS After McGehee's homerun yesterday, I believe he's implanted himself in the lineup through the end of the season (I think he may have been anyway, even without the homerun). Roenicke will see it as proof that he was correct in thinking McGehee is swinging the bat well and on the verge of a break-through. I'd be shocked if we saw any combination other than McGehee/Betancourt come playoff time.
  7. It's pretty difficult to tell, because Green's playing time has been so inconsistent. He came up, and at first Roenicke refused to use him. Then he had a couple of pinch hits, so he "earned" his way into some starts. After that though he had a couple hitless games, and now it seems Roenicke is again very hesitant to give him any significant playing time. I firmly believe that if Green started against almost all RHP, he would out-produce McGehee by a decent margin the rest of the way.
  8. The past handful of games he has been swinging at high pitches. I didn't mean he's been doing that all season, sorry if I didn't make that clear. And I disagree that the leash among brewerfan posters has been short. Most people were fair and reasonably patient in waiting for McGehee to come around. We're talking about a guy with little athletic ability, who never really did anything in the minors to indicate he was as good of a hitter as he showed the past two seasons. And it's not like he's been just slightly below average or something, he's been a black hole in the lineup who continues to hit behind Prince in the #5 spot.
  9. Looking at those OBP numbers makes me feel gross and dirty.
  10. I don't get what they're looking at when they say McGehee is putting together good at-bats and swings. He's been consistently swinging at pitches up near his head, as well as way low and outside. Then he takes pitches right down the middle because he's clearly guessing. When he actually does swing at a decent pitch, he can't square up on it. His balance is off and his bat speed looks atrocious. It's been nothing but strike-outs, lazy fly balls to right, and weak grounders to the left side.
  11. McGehee has been so awful, that I'm starting to believe he needs to be permanently removed from the lineup even more than Betancourt. If Betancourt is going to keep playing everyday anyway (which appears to be the case), then Hairston/Green should play 3B the rest of the way. McGehee is just not even close to breaking through or being productive, no matter how much Bill Schroeder says otherwise. His bat speed is in the toilet.
  12. "Oh, it's got cachet, baby! It's got cachet up the ying yang!!" http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/9966/georgecostanza.jpg
  13. Whenever I hear the Brewers have a 99% chance of winning something, I have flashbacks of June 9th, 2007.
  14. Okay, now I'm starting to panic a little bit. Lead on St. Louis is down to 5.5 games. Lead on Atlanta is 1 game. I can just see it... "We still have 90% postseason odds." "We still have 75% postseason odds." "We still have 60% postseason odds..."

  16. Does anybody have the offensive numbers at home for before and after LaRussa's accusations? Just curious because it seems like there has been a huge dropoff offensively at home since then. It's not possible that the LaRussa/Cardinals antics and mind-games could have any tangible effect, is it? *Disclaimer: I do NOT think the Brewers were ever cheating.
  17. The fact that he was in the game at all (over Green) is a sign that Roenicke either A) is stubborn and doesn't want to admit he was wrong by not benching McGehee earlier, B) is stubborn and doesn't like rookies, or C) is crazy and actually thinks McGehee is a better option than Green at this point. Yeah, but look how happy and jolly the guys are that McGehee and Betancourt are still getting to play everyday. And that's what is most important. Wouldn't want the team to get disgruntled by scoring more runs and playing better defense with pukes like Green and Hairston!
  18. This must be his reward, for honoring the classy Cardinal way by "telling the truth" about how he almost started a brawl by cursing at a guy. Clearly, this man's integrity knows no bounds and therefore needs to be in St. Louis for the remainder of his career.
  19. I think this is exactly the case. The old-school curmudgeon manager just doesn't like the guy -- because he doesn't do things the right way, in his opinion. He has offered no real evidence whatsoever though that Gamel's attitude or immaturity has made him an ineffective baseball player.
  20. That's all fine and dandy, but the exact same thing could be said about Betancourt. His approach at the plate is dreadful, and he (by many accounts) refuses to change and even got upset about being asked to take more pitches. His fundamentals are awful -- he doesn't even know how to bunt, and his fielding is beyond lazy. If our organizational philosophy is going to be ripping on guys to "motivate" them, then why is somebody like Yuni off limits? Say what you want about Gamel, the production and the numbers have a least been there. With a guy like Betancourt, not only does his entire approach stink but the results stink too.
  21. I find it interesting that some of the same people who like Money and his "honesty" are also the ones who defend Roenicke for never saying anything negative about Yuniesky Betancourt, because you know, what is there to gain from publicly bashing one of your own players?
  22. If it comes down to having somebody on the team who... 1) Is somewhat immature, but produces Gamel's Major League Equivalencies or 2) Is very mature, but produces Casey McGehee or Mark Kotsay type numbers ...I'll take option #1 every time.
  23. This team is over-rated because of how they beat up on bad teams. They are above average, but with many glaring weaknesses (including the manager). When they've played the better teams in baseball, they've definitely looked like pretenders. There's still a very good chance they sneak in to the playoffs though, and hopefully with Weeks back, not having to bat McGehee 5th and Yuni 6th will allow the Brewers to pick up the pace on offense a little.
  24. That's kind of what everybody wanted all along, except for it to be done a lot earlier -- like months ago. You seem to be the one changing your position in order to agree with everything Roenicke does. Not long ago, you seemed to be under the impression that giving Green significant playing time would destroy team chemistry. But now you're okay with his integration (which again, is what everybody else has been clamoring for all along and were upset at how the team dragged their feet). Why is it okay now? What changed? You can't possibly think it's okay now just because Green "proved" himself during his first 3 pinch hit appearances.
  25. I don't really see the Brewers winning more than 1 game in this series. I'd be pleasantly surprised with a split.
