  1. So now we have a WS hero born in the 80s and named after a mermaid in a movie. It won't be enough to switch it back to a boy's name I think.
  2. This series seems to be paralleling the 82 series pretty much game by game. The Giants like the Brewers went on the road and won the first game in a blowout. Then they lost the next 2 games and fell behind by a lot in the 4th game before rallying for the win, just like the Brewers. Then they won the 5th game at home and got blown out on the road in game 6. I predict that the Giants will be 11 outs away from the title but the Royals will come back and win.
  3. If the show you're referring to is what happened last night, there's video going around of Card fans confronting #Ferguson protesters.
  4. Well since I'm old I should have known if I thought it was 1 to 2 months ago it was really 4. If I think something happened 4 years ago it was 15. Anyway in June there was a thread about why the Cards and Brewers don't get along and somebody mentioned that the Brewers had Prince and CC and Cameron and Morgan and Weeks and Hall etc. and the Cards, not so much. You commented that La Russa had systematically weeded out all of the black players, that Oquendo should have had Metheny's job, that the Polanco for Rolen trade was terrible, etc. - by the end of it La Russa was Hitler, which of course doesn't go nearly far enough but hey you're a Card fan, I understand! You commented that it was still an issue now with La Russa gone. Like I said, 4 (not 1-2) months later it rang a bell today.
  5. What are you referring to, Bombers? I saw Molina/Matheny freak out at one point when Lackey was getting wild and stall the action, but not Rosenthal. That guy gives up hits in every game he saves. He has Card fans are on pins and needles every time out. I was listening to Vin and not watching but according to his call right after Rosenthal put 2 straight on all of a sudden there was a problem with the mound and play stopped while they all futzed around with it for it seemed like forever and it seemed like a pretty transparent attempt to stall. Your comments from a month or two ago on the organization's recent treatment of black players, so far removed from what it was when I was growing up, has hit home as I've been looking at the reports from after the game.
  6. Maybe the calls the Giants get explain some of their postseason success as well. The Fox guy is yammering about how he can "understand" why the Nat fans are frustrated since they thought they had the game won and a lot is at stake. No, they are frustrated because 2 straight leadoff walks got wrongfully turned into strikeouts.
  7. That one's on Reynolds not Weeks. Not that it was a great throw but Reynolds should have it.
  8. On second thought, if you want to maintain your sanity don't watch it. Apparently the love child of Kirk Gibson and Tony La Russa is announcing for the Marlins. Sorry did not take your advice. After yelling you have to protect your big man twice the guy was shocked, shocked that anyone would think Gwen Stefani was throwing at GoGo intentionally. On the K of Johnson he first said if it's anywhere close or in between or something you can't call it a swing (not sure where in the rule book it says you can't call the same thing twice in a row if it happens twice in a row) then fell back to saying no way was it a swing (it looked like a swing to everyone else). He yelled that it was some kind of outrage that Fiers was still on the field to see if the inning was over while the umpires were conferring on whether it was strike 3 or not. Then all the whining about how the 4 guys in blue and everyone else are all against the Marlins and what a joke etc etc. Don't know who the guy is but he's bad. No wonder nobody follows the Marlins.
  9. I think the Brewers are #1 and #2 for worst final record for a team over 500 at the All-Star break - #1 is 75 and #2 is 04.
  10. Roenicke's right - the calls were a joke. K-Rod's first 2 pitches were strikes all night (especially to Parra) - even my huge Pad homer bud gasped on the 2d one and on ball 3 to Amarista. It's a whole different inning with consistent calls. Pretty much the whole stadium was stunned that they didn't send Grandal on the fly in the 5th. He's slow and Parra has a good arm but the ball was easily deep enough. I don't think I've ever seen anyone go 1st to 2d on a fly and the runner on 3d not score. This game was a kind of flip of Monday's - Stults was terrible then had 3 great starts and returned to form Monday; Despaigne was good then had 3 terrible starts and returned to form tonight. Tailgate was fun, tho shortened by the early start.
  11. The UW Alumni Club is having a tailgate in Tailgate Park starting at 5 and my guess is they will have some room for at the doors.
  12. I have good seats tonight but unfortunately by the Pads dugout this time. Anyone else going?
  13. It's been 4 years I think since the Brewers were here on a weekend. Maybe next year.
  14. Jeffress is up in case they get a couple insurance runs and don't need K-Rod. Yo got some breaks in the 8th so pros and cons both ways on who pitches the 9th and either choice would have been defensible. I'm not a Roenicke fan but thought he did fine last night.
  15. Thanks for the reports SoCal. Dodger Stadium has been a pretty friendly place for the Brewers recently. We are in Atlanta dropping our daughter off at GT (parents' reception and convocation today right over the game) so I couldn't get up there this year. Good luck with your daughters. Mine had a Weeks jersey that she wore for years until she was about 12-13 and I was telling her how much I liked Weeks and why and she said "don't ruin the jersey Dad" but apparently it was too late. She got a Pony League Brewer jersey (#10) from one of her friends' Dad who coached a Mustang pony team and she's worn it ever since even after finding out who #10 is. My brother was at Wrigley Tuesday and said they really went after Braun, especially later in the game as the Cubs got closer to the W and the fans got drunker. One of the sports bars had "Braun Is Positive The Cubs Play Clean" on the marquee. He wished he had a No H8R shirt. Let me know if you'll be at Petco next week. I'm going Mon. and Wed.
  16. Per Rule 4.12(a)(5) the game is suspended not called so the GS isn't wiped out.
  17. Larry King is usually in the seats near the field a little towards the 3d base side.
  18. Last night Ueck said he likes his chorizo "N'Awlins style." My Mexican-American wife was horrified.
  19. I see zero predictions of the Dodgers Series win even by the 20-7s. Nice to see the positive guesses closer to the mark after the first week.
  20. The Dodgers are 66-50. I got excited for a bit when I saw the Brewers had a better record.
