  1. The Marshfield Clinic ads are clearly the worst of all for me, although I admit they are less offensive this year than they were before.
  2. Win or lose it will be the best first 81 in Brewers history. With a split or better they are the first to 50 (ahead of 78 and 82). Unfortunately the Pads are where you would expect Falu to wind up. We will see when Falu Fever takes hold.
  3. Lincecum through the 8th easily. Only at 97 pitches. 8 PH 1 up for Pads.
  4. Duran was living in Cazenovia I think before passing away recently. My mom got signed balls from him for my kids.
  5. I was at the Del Mar (San Diego Co) Fair. He was originally heading south towards Mexico so I was wondering if they would close the 5. Then he turned around and we were home before it all ended.
  6. The face of the Cardinals used to include Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Willie McGee. Now they are one of 3 clubs w zero African-American players and I can't remember the last prominent one. Edwin Jackson doesn't count. Let's add the Carpenter-Morgan feud to the list. On one of my few trips to Miller Park I had the pleasure of sitting in front of some WOW county lady who booed Nyger and otherwise made her feelings known on a wide variety of political issues. So nobody is casting stones. But at least in Milw I get the feeling that the organization is not part of the problem.
  7. Nice solid win in a game they should win even with Braun and Lucroy out but didn't have to.
  8. The reaction to the Luc video says it all - I don't think they realize it's a game that's supposed to be fun. LaRussa sucked all the joy out of the franchise and Matheny is making sure it doesn't return.
  9. I wish Block or Anderson had said "I Don't Believe What I Just Saw."
  10. K-Rod just toying with them. Even gave their best hitter an extra strike.
  11. If they pitch around Braun and try to get him to chase they might get the same result they did in the 9th. As noted getting runs in from 3d w productive outs is not Braun's strong suit. I'd rather see almost anyone else up in that situation.
  12. Ha ha ha 5 called strikes for Cy Kinzler. Gibson's gift keeps giving.
  13. It is hard to use appropriate language about Gibson - he is definitely PE#1 w LaRussa gone. Last night was classic too - the umps on the field give him a gift when he's out of challenges and their reward is to get yelled at when he doesn't like the call from NY. They'll know better next time.
  14. The Cards has a series @ home v the Nats who are something like 2-18 @ Busch and now the Mets at home. I think we still need to see if the hitting can pick up the pitching - they aren't going to get 20-25 percent shutouts all year.
  15. The Cards has a series @ home v the Nats who are something like 2-18 @ Busch and now the Mets at home. I think we still need to see if the hitting can pick up the pitching - they aren't going to get 20-25 percent shutouts all year.
  16. I went to Chase for both playoff games in 2011 - plenty of seats available for both games, as there were for the AllStar game earlier that year. That was understandable; it is not a very good place to watch a game. Roof closed and too much AC (in October) didn't help. I'm pretty sure the guy next to me the 2d game had a mental illness. Then back to Tempe for the ASU ref-fest last September . . .
  17. Everyone wanted Falu gone, Falu is gone, site can't be doing that badly.
  18. Thanks, my brother had asked about the last XBH saying that was a more interesting question. I remember Rusch's hit. It was scored a single although he popped up the bunt and was lucky it fell where it did.
  19. So when's the last time a starting pitcher had a PH walkoff? Or a guy with a walkoff started and won the next day?
