  1. A Cubs fan cited this as his exact reaction when Hill bunted into that double play:
  2. Okay. Here's where I state the obvious: This team is really good. Yay!
  3. It might just be me, but I think Magglio should get out the hedge clippers and shear them locks. If they were red, he'd be Carrot Top.
  4. Just an FYI: As of right now, the Brewers have the largest lead of any team in 1st place in Major League Baseball. Granted, it's only 2 1/2 games and it's really early... I just thought it would feel good typing out. And it does. Click for awesomeness.

  6. I've done fairly well reading him in the past. This isn't new for me. I guess this might be the first time in the Melvin era pre-trade that I don't see the point in making the deal. Maybe I'm just down on Lieber more than the rest of you. I'd rather throw a rookie out there as a 5th starter than a aging veteran who could possibly break down at any moment, and you'd still owe him a U-haul filled with dough. It'd be cheaper to eat contracts. If there's more to the deal, fine. I guess at face value doesn't make much sense to me. The Overbay deal (the pre-trade rumor version) made more sense than this one to me. That one made perfect sense afterwards. I guess if this thing does go down, I can only hope for the same.
  7. Just to clarify for my sake. At this point, I think non-tendering Mench and sending Turnbow home for the season would be better than trading for Lieber and taking on his entire salary. I think there's no chance of getting Cole Hamels for essentially anything we have to offer (outside of the untouchables). I doubt we could even net a halfway decent AA or AAA prospect (maybe A). I just don't see the point in obtaining Lieber and paying him what the Phillies presently owe him. That money can be spent elsewhere. If not this year, put it in the bank to gain intrest. So, while the deal talent for talent is probably on par, I think Melvin can do better elsewhere.
  8. Well, he might not tell the whole story, but I'm not sure if he flat out lies... He could say that he's not motivated to move Turnbow, and then trade him somewhere two days later. That isn't a lie, it's just a way of saying that he basically found an offer that included a return that met his expectations. As far as trading Carlos goes, he said about the same thing, but things changed as time went on and the odds kept getting better. Really, the same went with Overbay... He wasn't motivated, and all the sudden he was. This time, he said it was an internet rumor: "Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash did chat with Phillies officials, including GM Pat Gillick, but Melvin dismissed talk of the deal as "an Internet rumor." Melvin asked the Phillies if they had interest in Jenkins and/or Mench, and "Pat Gillick says no," Melvin said. " I see that as a pretty direct statement. And while he might bend the truth and not tell the entire story, that just seems like a flat out denial. I can't think of a time when Melvin was that direct and have it turn around 180 degrees. Of course, maybe I'm just missing a few memories here and there.
  9. Didn't Melvin state last night in McCalvy's piece that this was just basically an internet rumor? If so, did Melvin lie or is Philly's paper just making stuff up? It's gotta be one of the two. I'm hoping its the latter. Melvin can do better than Lieber for those two guys.
  10. Thanks for putting me in my place, Mod! I appreciate it.
  11. Wow. I thought 'Doesn't Get the Bit Guy' only existed on certain other message boards. That said, I think Baldelli would be a welcome addition... It would be too bad if Villenueva would have to go, but I suppose you only get what you give. Although it'd be tremendous if they took Hendrickson instead. I know, wishful thinking.
  12. That's one heckuva sombrero Mr. Wilson is wearing. It looks expensive. Now get some freakin' runs, Crew.
  13. Right... Actually, it might include the previous 10 posts or whatever. I thought it was a pretty good idea when I saw it, so I figured I'd pass it along in the event it hasn't come up previously.
  14. Here's my suggestion, and it might help cut down on the amount of duplicate posts within a thread or minimize posts like "Aw, you beat me by two seconds..." When responding in a particular thread, it might be useful if, before actually saving your response, it does a quick query to check whether or not the actual thread your posting to has been updated while you're posting. It could kick up a message that says, "Warning, the thread you're posting two has been updated 'X' times since your last visit... You may want to read the new additions and update your post accordingly and then hit 'send'." Of course, it probably shouldn't be this wordy, but if someone has already said something for you, you might want to add on to it or just not post at all. This function would probably be useful in game threads or overly popular threads that receive several updates in a short period of time. Let me know if you want an example of what I'm talking about... I've seen a few message boards that offer this and it might do away with a certain percentage of useless or repeated information posts. Another thing that might be useful (I might as well pass it along while I'm typing away here), is if you give the user the ability to delete their own posts/threads. If you create a thread, you have the ability to delete it. If you contribute to a thread, you have the ability to delete your post. This might cut down on the number of 'duplicate' threads or posts that get created. If this function exists presently, you might want to make it more user friendly. Just a couple of thoughts. Take 'em for what they're worth.
  15. Just an FYI, Overbay commits and error in his first chance at first base for the Blue Jays, and then strikes out in his first at bat. No real comment other than I hope Prince does something other than wear a sombrero tonight. Jitters be gone!
  16. I'm eating at Coerper's tonight and I'm pretty sure there's not enough room for a television there, but if I wasn't I'd be somewhere on the third base side praying that Glover can give us five good innings. Winning this series would be tremendous in my mind.
  17. You bet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Pardon my lack of creativity. Hopefully I've now given you proper credit.
  18. Great win by the Brewers. What I learned: DD is a strikeout pitcher for sure. Rickie can hit. T-Bow is nasty, even if he spends a lot of time tucking his jersey into his pants before pitching to hitters. Billy Hall can play third base. Derek Lee looks good in a sombrero. Matt Murton has six homers right now. Just one behind Nomar. I've also renewed my distaste of Beefeater Bob and his piggy sideburned mother. I've never eaten at a Prime Quarter steakhouse soley because of that sickening commercial.
  19. Not only is he sharp, but he's just downright nasty! Whew.
  20. Could be a midweek thing too, but I agree that the back to school thing probably plays a factor.
  21. Tuck that Jersey in T-Bow. Look pretty for the hitter while you strike him out.
  22. C'mon. Billy can play third. Be nice to him.
  23. MISTAH T SAY: http://sidesalad.net/archives/MrTSombrero.jpg Enjoy your golden sombrero, Derek. He pities the poor fool.
  24. Okay. Let's get the one you need and get out of this inning. I'll have such a non-sexual mancrush on Sharpie if he pulls this off.
